Rip Off !!! Said the wind were too strong to go out had to stay in bay, shortened time and gave us a $10 refund. What!!!! Truth of the matter was they were a total of 9 people on the trip. We have been on the HOBO with Captain Jack 3x over the past 2 years. We have loved it. We take younger kids (6-9 YO) and they have a blast. Captain Jack is very friendly and safe. We booked a very last minute shark fishing charter through Drifter Excursions. No one anticipated fishing on this trip as our 3 year old niece was with us. I convinced our group of 8 and called on Sunday afternoon for a Monday charter. Jack and his aunt were extremely accommodating. Booked a shark fishing trip on the "Hobo" thru Drifter Excursions! We had a fantastic time! The boat departed on Time at 5:15 in the afternoon for the 3 hour shark fishing trip our captain Hobo Captain Jack was the best. He had plenty of knowledge about the area and was able to tell us very interesting things about the island. He gave us several tips on shark fishing. What an amazing experience!! We booked a private 3 hr charter on the Boomerang for our family of 6. Jennifer & Roby (Roby-1-Kanobi) we're not only incredible helping us know what do do, but also so knowledgeable about the entire area, having grown up there. They took us to 2 perfect spots where we hooked 2 hammerheads, 2 fine tooth sharks & a 6-7 ft (250-300 lb) lemon shark!! These guys are fantastic and I wholly recommend them. Highly recommend Drifter Excursions! We went out on the Shark fishing trip and had a blast with Captain Adam and Jack! We all caught quite a few sharks and even some hammer heads. We've been on several fishing charters before where the Captain and his mates were more worried about fishing themselves and not worried about their passengers. This was definitely not the case! Adam and Jack threw out a pole, hooked a 5 ft shark and let us reel it in. We had a great trip because of the great Captain and mate! They were both very friendly and personable. I went on the 3 hour deep sea shark fishing tour and loved it! Any fishing trip you get is the luck of the draw of they are noting or not bit I was the first one to catch a baby shark I ended up catching 3 total plus Spanish Mackerel along with 2 other kinds of fish I can't remember. I met some nice people from all over the country on the tour and the captain and his mate were awesome! They were very helpful and were fishing them selves and were nice enough to let the kids take a chance at reeling in a 80lbs shark with some help of course. I had doubts about this trip but loved every minute of it! I highly recommend it :) read more

This was so fun. We took 3 kids and dint know what to expect. Our mate-Joey and the Captain(can't remember her name but she was awesome) educated us on how to fish for bait, catch crabs and shark fish. Each kid was able to throw their net and have their own pole. We caught 4 sharks and all the kids got to hold & pet the sharks. It wasn't suppose to rain and all the kids had their poles when a downpour came in to the sound. The captain pulled us back to the harbor and waited out the storm. It was still raining but she called us back to the boat. The rain passed and we went back out to catch the sharks. Very fun. read more

Boat was clean and staff were friendly. We did the Gypsy Dolphin watch. It's apparent why this tour is the cheapest on the island. Rode around looking for dolphins for 1:15. The captain seemed like he was about to give up when someone spotted ONE dolphin. The dolphin was hard to spot and the kids only saw its fin once. It was still a nice boat ride with about 4-5 fun facts about the surrounding area. The dolphin portion was a huge let down. I understand we are talking about wildlife in an ocean so I get it, but I guess I allowed myself to get hyped up by the advertised "DOLPHINS GUARANTEED!" so was pretty disappointed at seeing the fin of one dolphin at a long distance. read more

I highly recommend Drifter Excursions. My family including two daughters, ages 9 & 7, had a blast! Captain Jennifer and Mate Hunter were excellent guides, very knowledgable and enjoyable to be with. My husband and I brought out 2 little daughters here for a dolphin excursion. On our first visit, an afternoon thunderstorm moved in and caused our trip to be cancelled. We were given a full refund, then returned the next day for another try! We were lucky enough to beat the storm this time and were able to see several dolphins! this was our first trip to Hilton Head. The kids were really excited about the dolphin cruise. We were told to meet by the red shack at 2:30pm which we did. At 2:45pm they called to "make sure I got the message that the trip was cancelled." There wasn't any inclement weather. Perhaps there weren't enough people but they would know that hours ahead of time. Wasted over an hour of our day. Not impressed. read more

To me when you book a trip, you give your word that you will show up, and pay. The company gives their word that they will provide the trip and make it enjoyable. I called on the 10th, booked a fishing trip on the 12th for myself, and my wife. Part of our annual vacation. They canceled the trip today after 5 pm, too late to book another charter, because the trip was not fully booked. My past experience with Professional head boats is that they go out unless the weather is dangerous. I've gone out of Little River with only a handful of other anglers. I will never contact this company again, will do everything I can to keep others from ruining their vacations. read more

This is my husband and mines first trip to Hilton Head and my husband was so excited about fishing. He booked this trip a few days before and had no problem booking the trip itself. The mate was very nice and so was the captain. The problem we had was when we first anchored, 3 people caught fish out of 25 people. Then we moved and someone caught debris from the ocean bottom, someone caught a grouper that wasn't big enough to keep, and someone caught an eel. That was it. There was a man next to my husband who had put bait on two reels, no idea how to fish it seemed, and no one corrected him or felt like they should as the leaders of the boat. The captain seemed to want to socialize more than help find the fish. My husband nor myself got even a nibble. My husband has deep sea fished before and said this was the worst one he has been on because usually the captain tries to help find the fish instead of socializing. We are trying a different charter tomorrow and are hopefully this other one will give us some luck and help on actually catching the fish. The reason they got two stars is that the captain and mate were very nice and friendly and we got to see sea turtles and they are my absolute favorite animals. I wouldn't recommend this place if you actually want to catch some fish though. read more

She did say at the start we can't go out as far due to high winds. What she didn't say was we will have unfavorable conditions where fishing may but be good. Led us to believe we will be fine. We took our 6 yo daughter on the kids cruise, and it was awesome!! She caught 4 baby sharks and someone else caught a hammerhead! Every kid on our cruise caught at least 1 baby shark. We were so lucky! You can't blame the company if you don't catch anything. They can't help that. The two teenage mates on the trip were fantastic!! As a teacher, I was extremely impressed by them and their friendliness and politeness. Also, you CANNOT beat the price!! The crab trap was cool too. All in all, a great trip! read more

The reason why I gave it a one star is because it's not deep sea fishing. It's more of a glorified boat ride that smells like an uncleaned outhouse and diesel fumes. You end up traveling for about 45-1h initially and once you get to the "spot" you put bait on a hook and drop it over the side; no casting, no fishing....just lowering bait to the bottom and waiting for something to bite. After 15 minutes you have to reel up and you go to another location. It's cool for kids who want to take a picture with a small shark or something (if you actually catch one) but that's it. If you could have deep sea fishing at a carnival then drifter excursions would be perfect for the job. read more

First of all, it costs $6.00 just to drive into this part of the island. Apparently, the rich are not rich enough and need help paying their property taxes. This is the second day in a row we've had to pay the entry fee to enter the area for excursions...shame on South Carolina/Hilton Head. My husband and I went on the 5 hour deep sea fishing trip. There were 57 other people on the boat with us so we were tightly packed, but were able to drop a line overboard.....this is not a casting boat, but we've been on the drop over type dozens of times. At our first stop, it took at least 15 minutes to figure out where the anchor was going to be dropped. One person caught a fish but was too small to keep... so the anchor was brought up and on we went. The second stop allowed 1 person to catch a Remora -- not edible. Nothing else caught so after sitting in the sun for an hour, we moved on again. HERE'S A TIP: Sit on the opposite side that you enter the boat on to stay in the shade. Even after asking if we could move the boat around so that we could get some shade too, we were told it couldn't happen. (5 hours in the sun is not fun). Anyway, stop number 3, someone finally caught a fish, but it was too small to keep -- it was on the other side of the boat so I'm not sure what type it was. Another hour of sitting, then on we went again. This time we were told we were going to go try to find some sharks. Stop number 4 -- one person caught a baby foot long hammer head. Stop number 5 -- a couple more baby sharks -- all smaller than a foot long. Stop number 6 - three or four people caught baby sharks. At this point, the water was so shallow that the captain certainly brought us here knowing there were babies in the area, just so that people could say they caught something because I don't know of any other fish that would be in the shallow mud without any reef or coral to hide in. It's understandable that no one can guarantee everyone will catch fish, but....of the 57 guests - NO ONE was able to take ANY fish home with them. I have never been fishing and not caught ANYTHING. Usually a bad day of fishing is still a good day - but not this time. HERE'S A TIP WE'RE GOING TO START DOING: Don't trust what the fisherman say was caught the day or the week before. Go to the boat dock and watch what comes off the boat before you sign up. For now on, we're going to ask what time the ship is due back - check out the boat on return and then decide if we want to drop a couple hundred dollars or not for the next fishing excursion out. 7.2.2015 read more

Yesterday, me, my husband and two sons went on The Drifter for a five hour fishing excursion. We were told that the boat would take us to a man made coral reef that was about and hour and 15 minutes away. We rode for about and hour and forty five minutes. Then we were told that the boat had to turn around because the water was too rough. So we rode for another thirty minutes. We were told to put out our lines. The Deckhand set out his rod to catch a shark. Thirty minutes passed and no one caught anything. 20 people on a boat plus the Deckhand. No one caught a fish. Then the Deckhand then decided the fish weren't biting. So, we went another 40 minutes out. Someone caught a baby shark that was so small it had to be thrown back and a Mongolia trout that was smaller than a 12 inch ruler. That also had to be thrown back in. Then Deckhand put us to fish over rocks and everyone's line was getting caught. So for 262.00 We caught no fish. The ride was rough. We never got where we were to be going and No one went home with any fish. We returned to find everyone gone. When we did call to complain it was like but, you went fishing. I would not recommend this to anyone. I have been on other party fishing boats and never been on one that no one got off the boat without any fish. We never got to the reef . read more
