Drove in the States for 1 year everyday, after that rented a car about twice a year for the last 10 years. Finally after 12 years in the States I decided to do a driving license. After passing the exam and taking the 5 hours info class I needed a car for one hour practicing and taking me to the test. After searching the web for the cheapest and most convent school I found "Drive Train Driving School" The rates were pretty moderate on their website. Before booking anything I called the school, spoke with the owner and he explained how everything worked and what i exactly needed to take. He said I needed to buy 1.5 hour driving class, which was preparing me to the exam, I could practice a bit and get use to the car. ($75) And I needed the car for the test ($100). I paid online and called back to confirm my payment and the date of the exam. The trainer came to pick me up on time, actually he was before time. He was very friendly and professional. He definitely knows his job well. He told me exactly how the exam will look. WE practiced parallel parking and 3 way u-turn. I had a bit problem with parallel parking and he said it can be a problem. And I have to admit I did not do it well on the test, but still passed it. Overall I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend this company to everyone who needs to do their driving license.

I asked for a time for appointment before buying the groupon and was given one. Then I bought the Groupon. They asked me 2 weeks before appointment to send a picture of the groupon with the code. I did, and asked if we are confirmed they said yes. No confirmation email, no email reminder so day of I text to make sure all ok. Get a text back the "car is in the shop", they are cancelling and they are not taking groupons, get a refund from groupon. You figure it out. There are legitimate driving schools. From my experience, I would say this is not one of them.

I did not believe I could do it but thanks to Kenny and Carrie, I was able to pass in my first try! They went above and beyond when they heard that I had to get my license in 2 weeks for work. I called up 6 different driving schools and Carrie was the only one who was able to get me a expedited road test appointment when it is usually a 5 weeks wait during covid times. I got mine in around 2 weeks. Kenny has been in the industry for over 20 years, so he definitely knows what he is doing and he gives great tips for passing the road test. He told me if you drive safely and you make the examiner feel safe in the vehicle - you can 99% pass. He took the time to explain how a vehicle works and how steering differently will affect the wheel. He also taught me where to look under different circumstances to prevent collisions. I did not get these helpful tips from my other school. I believe they were crucial to how I gained confidence to drive safely. Dont be scared by other comments saying they have no patience - Kenny is just very strict and gives you immediate feedback so you can fix your bad habits ASAP and PASS. It is tough love and I took 10 lessons with another school (because Kenny had too many students and couldn't give me more lessons in such short notice, I would take it all with Kenny if I could), one of Kenny's lesson is worth two of other school's lessons when it comes to parking and turning (they make you parallel park like 10 times per lesson) which is very very helpful for those who have trouble parking. Ngl I was a bit intimidated by how much information to take in on first lesson, but dont worry, it will get better as you drive more. Took my road test last week and PASSED! All thanks to Monty and team…read more I opted for the 15 lessons package because 1) I've never driven before and also didn't have a family car to practice with, 2) I wanted to pass on my first try (AND YA GIRL DID THAT!!), and 3) the price was very reasonable. Coray(?) took care of all the paperwork for seamless registration and helped me book my road test a week before the year ended because she knew it was my 2019 new years resolution. Violet, who helped me with scheduling, is so sweet and accommodating. TIP: save your last lesson for the day of your road test so you get some practice in and calm your nerves before the most excruciating 10 mins of your life. JK, obviously exaggerating. It was easy peasy because I had the best instructors, Monty and Ali. They were super encouraging, so helpful, professional, knowledgeable and just made me feel so at ease behind the wheel. They gave me great tips and pointers, offered constructive criticism, and we had great conversations. Honestly, this place deserves more than 5 stars. 1st SGT is one of the best driving schools I've been to and I've had my share of driving schools…read moreover the years. It did take me awhile to get my license, however George's teaching style, you will rarely find in NYC since a lot of driving schools will do the bare minimum, just for the money. I would recommend everyone of any age to learn how to drive with him. He is very detailed and he can be tough, but if the end result is you getting your license, then it would have all been worth it. He is very friendly and knows everyone in the neighborhood, and his game plan is not to just teach you how to pass the test, but also to be a good driver in general, by being informative and reinforces safety protocols to live by. Many driving schools in NYC will give you an old driving video for the 5 hr pre-licensing course and you'd only need to watch 15 min to get your certificate, however George actually uses that time to teach important skills and the rules of the road which will help you understand the road better and avoid getting points off during the road test. Driving in NYC can be very scary with the constant road fixtures, jaywalkers, bikers/scooters and reckless driving, and so George can be helpful when it comes to gaining confidence to driving in such a busy city. George and his wife make it very easy to schedule lessons, which are usually scheduled close together, along with a road test, to make the lessons more efficient but obviously don't only count on the lessons to learn how to drive, you definitely need to drive more on your own as well. I've been fooled by a bunch of driving schools that have 5 star ratings , it's always trial and error with them, but with 1st SGT, it's a confirmed really great school for a complete newbie to someone with some driving experience. I had never driven before starting with this school, so there's definitely a chance of success if you decide to go here--but I can't say I'm 100% happy with my experience. Unfortunately, the style of teaching my instructor uses is not what I'm comfortable with, and I endured a lot of stress and anxiety. After he shows you something once, he expects you to know it right away. He can be very forceful with his voice, which I understand can sometimes be necessary, but it often felt intimidating instead of encouraging. When you ask clarifying questions, he doesn't really like to answer them. At one point, he pushed me when teaching me to check my blind spot. It caught me off guard, scared me, and even hurt my neck when he did it. There were several moments that felt unprofessional. Often, while I was driving, he would suddenly hit the brakes or tell me to stop so he could talk to someone on the road, which I found really distracting. He also tends to have some road rage himself. One time he even started a verbal argument with a pedestrian while I was driving--an experience that made me feel extremely unsafe and anxious. He teaches you specifically how to drive in his car and prepares you for the road test- not necessarily skills for everyday driving. He can be aggressive and sarcastic and rarely points out what you're doing well, though he's quick to comment on what you did wrong. He also requires you to wear a mask. (Nothing wrong with that but it is a requirement at all times just important to note, will not see you unless you have a mask.) It is a one man business. So you will have the same instructor for all your lessons. He tends to be very assertive and aggressive primarily. Also can be understanding and light hearted, depends on the situation. I really had to push myself to finish the classes I signed up for because I had already paid for them, even though I did see somewhere that he offers refunds if the chemistry isn't there. At the end of the day, it was my choice to stay, but if you're like me and prefer a more gentle approach to learning--or want your questions answered without pushback--I'd recommend looking at other options around you. On a good note, they do respond quickly to emails. The instructor is also very punctual, which I appreciated. I do believe he knows what he's doing and can get you prepared for the test, but the approach just isn't for everyone. So be careful.

As I have a busy schedule after September, I started driving (like completely beginner) at the start of this month and took the test on the 26th. This isn't ideal but worked out for me. The team is extremely thorough with teaching everything you need to know to pass the test and drive safely on the road. I signed up for the 15 classes package and that includes them helping me sign up for the road test and drop/pick up at the road test (using their school car for the actual road test).
