They certainly live up to the name! After having the Lexus dealership tell me I need new brakes as well as Firestone, who charged me $46 to diagnose the car and quoted about $750 for the FRONT ALONE (after quoting half that over the phone), I went to Good Honest Mechanic thinking they could do the actual work for a reasonable price. After reviewing my vehicle, it turned out all my brakes are fine and no work was needed. They explained to me how they are at 5 millimeter and at exactly what number/range they start to recommend addressing them. This all lined up with what I read online as far as best practice for car brakes! Rather than try to take advantage of my ignorance and get $700+ like the other businesses, they told me upfront what the deal was and I appreciate that. Debbie at the front desk was nice to chat with also and provided me with updates on my vehicle. Zack and his team saved me from spending unnecessary money when I could really afford to. First and foremost everyone in store was fine - no issues and I wasn't upset with the situation. The car needed an oil change and I forgot to bring in the mailer stating their oil change special of 39.95. I told the lady at the counter but she wouldn't honor it because I didn't bring it in. Okay- annoying but whatever right? WRONG. They drained the oil but then couldn't get the filter out. I know this can be a common issue but to quote me nearly $400 PLUS the $80 oil change seemed insane. I called the last place that did the oil change and they completely took care of it/me. Now I paid the $80 thanked them and left. But I found the mailer and read every single word - nowhere does it state it needed to be brought in for redemption, it actually doesn't even say it's a coupon it says "oil change special" So I called the manager Blake, he was immediately rude, condescending and disrespectful. When I mentioned the tech drained the oil before taking out the filter he instantly remarked how "That's the ONLY way to do an oil change." (Truly, almost any mechanic can give you a different answer on what's right or wrong but that's neither here nor there). It was the immediate rudeness and talking down to me that really took me by surprise. I told the manager all I was asking was a partial refund since I had the ad and it doesn't say it needs to be brought in. He essentially told me too bad and again "EVERY store requires the coupons in person." He then offered that the coupon doesn't expire so I can bring it in next time. I told Blake frankly I don't know that I'll come back if this is how they treat customers. After a few minutes of back and forth regarding the coupon Blake told me I can bring the mailer in, he will write me a check for the difference, and to never come back to his shop again. P.S I called Amerifix of Franklin - I said I totally forgot my mailer at home can you still honor the coupon, they told me yes. I also asked if they usually drain the oil first or remove the filter, he said they remove the filter first. What a terrible way to do business and a terrible way to treat customers. They did what they had to and advised my father he may need to get it worked on. We brought it back after a few days and James said that he would need work on it but it is not needed because we do not use the truck that much. He did not try and pressure my father into anything. He did this again with the transmission on the truck. He told my father what was wrong but he could keep driving it for a long while before it would have to be fixed. Really love this place because they do not pressure you into stuff you do not need. I will always take my car here.

Marks Automotive repair had my van for almost two weeks, did nothing but plug in a code reader then…read morecharged me $397 and wouldn't even offer to make the repairs they deemed urgent. I have a diy campervan that I was trying to get ready for a road trip from Nashville to New England and everywhere in between. I brought it to Marks Auto repair in Mt Juliet mechanic (same one for 17 years) to get routine service and a new steering gear box. I was told that my van was not fit to do a 3000 mile trip and instead of camping, I should just get hotels. I was charged $397.00 for them to give me driver error codes (P1207) and tell me not only did my gear box need replaced, but my transmission was gone, my entire ABS system needed replacement and my engine could seize up and leave me stranded. Mark Jr. told me they didn't even want to repair it because it would be a lot of work and not worth the money for an older (2004 Ford e150) vehicle. I was devastated! I had this trip planned for almost a year and only had a month to get a repair and routine service. I pulled the carfax and the records were spotless and precise (except for the entries that Marks Auto repair put in). I bought this van as a state vehicle in AZ and knew it had immaculate maintenance and service records. I knew the transmission just needed a drain and fill, new oil, and an all around check on tires etc... I took it to a trusted friend for a solid 2nd opinion and the gearbox was gone (I knew that) but friend said Transmission probably just needed a drain and fill, and that it would be fine. The Ford econolines were made to outlast. Some having 300-400k miles on them. Mine had 160k. Strange thing was, when I popped the hood to see if they had changed/filled any fluid (since I paid almost $400) there were no signs of ANYONE there. No finger prints, no swipe marks from someone leaning over the engine, nothing! There was the same dirt with no disruptions as there was 4 months prior when I put a new battery in myself! They had my van for almost two weeks and only gave me useless Marta codes that were from raving the engine while in park (rpm vs torque error). The ABS codes or light hasn't come on except on rare occasion, but Mark jr made it seem as if I was going to lose my brakes completely and have a tragic and sudden loss of control. Scary and dramatic! Long story, but this is not the first time Marks has been less than helpful and actually defeated the purpose of even bringing my vehicle into them on other occasions. For example, I had an oil leak in an '07 Mustang that had leaked onto my garage floor and they told me to just watch the fluid level, it didn't need to be fixed!? What? So for years, I had to put a pad under my car because I just trusted what they said. Now I know better. Now I know there are other mechanics who want to do the work, gain trust and don't swindle or use scare tactics to get you off the lot. I brought my van into Marshall Automotive repair in Hermitage, they listened and tested the all the things. They replaced the steering gearbox got it aligned, changed my fluids, looked over all the other systems and gave me a thumbs up for the trip. It was a long, difficult journey and I did it solo. To be honest, there were some scary thoughts in my head thinking "what if Mark Jr. was right?" Completely paranoid at times and questioning everything made it difficult to truly enjoy my vacation to the fullest, but I had to trust my gut and my gut said Marks Auto repair was wrong. And they were! So, here we are.... $400 in the hole for absolutely nothing and 3000k miles later... whatcha gonna do Mark's?
