Drop Off Service gives off a divy vibe while having impeccably clean taps and delicious beer offerings. Solidly the best happy hour in the city if you, like me, like a solid lager. No food but people eat pizza and tacos from nearby spots in here sometimes. Place opens at 3 and happy hour goes until 7 but the vibes here are also impeccable at 1 am. 9pm on a Friday is a very lively and packed and I will drag my group here when out and about because it's the best spot but you'll mostly catch me here at 3 pm on a Tuesday sitting in the window and writing in my journal. This is a third space for a lot of people. Looking around this afternoon I see one person reading, two people drawing/writing, four or five people chilling on their phones, and there are a couple friends sitting and quietly chatting over a couple good pints, also old friends popping in just to see eachother. And here I am catching up on my correspondences. This is a bar where people can talk to each other and that is invaluable in our increasingly isolating society. Reclaimed wood floors, deteriorating bar stools. Good windows for people watching on ave A. Oh and the very best part is the music!! If you like classic rock this place is THE F****** BEST!!! Pls don't come in and try to ruin the vibes. A friend of mine told me about a place that sells $3 beer that doesn't taste like Bull Light. I was naturally skeptical. I'm not a big beer drinker but I've never heard of $3 beer, especially in NYC. We decided to go to DOS for happy hour before heading out to dinner. I met my friend there who was seated at the bar, and I had to wait about 10 minutes before I could place my order. It didn't bother me, I was busy catching up. It's definitely a dark, dive spot. The bathroom was clean. The service was good. There's a $10 minimum to use a credit card. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I've been coming here for maybe a decade? I love this place so much, I'm envious of everyone that can discover it for the first time. DOS is inbetween a pub and a dive. It's well priced -- shout out to their late night happy hour. And there is a great!!! beer selection. I'm not a massive beer fan and it took me like 4 years to realise they had a hard liquor license. It's perfect for all occasions. This is our new favorite hangout in EV. Not sure how I've never stumbled in here before, but everything about this place is great. The staff is always nice and fun to talk to, the drinks are priced right and always taste good (and get you drunk!). The interior vibe and aesthetic is the perfect blend of cozy, divey and calm. I walked up to ask for a drink and she said "do you have your vax card" then looked at her friend being like "see no one is ever ready- it's ridiculous" then I ordered two shots and a tecate and she goes "no we do t have that. Another in a long line of bars named after the place that used to occupy the same location, saving the company maybe, what, 250 bucks? Anyway, a dive bar through and through, but with a surprisingly large selection, and an extensive happy hour. We got there pretty early on a Friday, so it was mostly empty, but filled up pretty quickly once the work day proper ended. There aren't very many seats, and a decent amount of standing room, so expect to stand unless you arrive early or get lucky. read more

This review is for the bouncer working on 9/10. The bouncer shined his light at us out of nowhere and he yelled at my friend for vaping. Like ok, i get it, even though people were vaping everywhere else in the bar, i understand if we arent allowed to vape inside and maybe he didnt see them. He said "if youre gonna be rude then ill be rude." Then she said "what did i do that was rude" and he made a gesture at her vape. She said "ok you could have just told me instead of shining the light" then he said something like "you're in a bar, grow up" Everyone in the bar was lookin n shit and he was drawing so much unnecessary attention. What a perfect bar. I was able to come with a group of 10 friends at happy hour to take advantage of $3 beer that included Hofbrau, Radberger and Guiness from 5-8pm. There are large booths and a small room in the back. There was only one bartender and he did his best to serve everyone. Draft beer is served in Imperial Pints - that's 20oz. of delicious cold beer - not the normal 14oz to 16oz glasses. Oh yeah! Not sure how I would categorize Drop Off Service. I don't want to say "just your average bar", but it's not a cocktail bar, not a foofy/pretentious/exclusive bar, not a dive bar, not a hookah bar, not a tapas bar, not a tiki bar, so I guess it's just...a bar. With cheap drinks! What's not to like? Came here on a Saturday night around 11pm with three friends. Despite being conveniently-located (right off the L line), it actually wasn't too busy at this point. This actually surprised me, because the space lends itself to decently-sized crowds. There's a fair amount of seating here, but the center area could easily be converted to a dance floor at any moment. At 11 I suppose the clientele was more tame/sober, but I wouldn't be surprised if polite conversation turned to drunken dancing in the later hours. Overall, I was very impressed with the drink menu. They offer a handful of specialty cocktails as well as a very diverse selection of beers. I had already started with liquor for the night, so I went with one of their specialty martinis (gin, grapefruit, celery bitters...maybe one other thing I'm forgetting) which pretty much tasted like straight gin. This. Was. STRONG. Not sure I've ever taken that long to finish a drink. If I return, I'll definitely opt for a beer. They've got your more typical craft beers (Delirium Tremens) as well as a lot of local ales/IPAs. Best guess is they've got at least 20 beers on tap, maybe closer to 30. So while I won't call this a "craft beer bar" or a "gastropub" or "beer hall" - I am still called it "just....a bar" - beer drinkers rejoice! Come here if you're looking for a chill, no-frills bar that's a step up from a dive. The four of us were able to find seating in a booth (actually across from a couple, which was less awkward than expected......for us at least?) so you don't need to be overly-cautious about party size here. First of all, the much-ballyhooed happy hour is both overrated and deceptive. $3 buys you one of the lame bottles they stock, not one of the many wonderful hoppy brews on tap. On the plus side, the Australian meat pies are pretty tasty and not a bad deal at $6. The crowd definitely leans young twenty-something, with just enough hipness to offset high bro-culture potential. Don't count on getting a seat after work unless you get here early or, if you're like me, resign yourself to the weird bench facing the bathroom. The strangest thing about the place, though, has to be the AMEX-only policy, which worked out really well for me (that's why I got the damn card in the first place), but will upset many first-time drinkers. read more

Came here on a Friday night. Was no hassle at all getting in, though it looked busy from the outside. After passing the bar area, there was plenty of seating in the back, and if you walk further back towards the bathroom you'll find a whole other room with even more seating. We were able to have a quick drink and catch up with no fuss at all. I really like this bar. REALLY like. A couple of friends had recommended we stop by Drop Off Service for happy hour. Drop Off Service does not look like much from the outside. Once you're inside, there are tables to the left and a pretty large bar to the right. They also have their beers listed up above. There are a ton of beers to choose from here. Almost every beer is $3 here during happy hour. It's a wonderful thing! They did run out of Hoegaarden but recommended Nude Beach and I was pleasantly surprised. They also offer a blueberry beer, which is very tasty. Overall, a bar with a 50% off happy hour is fine by me. Just be prepared to deal with a few hipsters who think they're all that and a bag of chips because they work for a start-up. Came here on a Friday night and I must say, even though it was pretty crowded I felt like the space held it well. My friends and I were able to get a table which was awesome but drinks still had to be ordered at the bar. Despite the crowd, I never had to wait too long for a drink. The happy hour was really good - $3 or $5 beers and some amount of money off well drinks. The only thing I will say is my tab was $5 because I only got one beer but the minimum on a card charge was $10 I believe. The bartenders were really nice though. One thing: this place does NOT have food BUT they let you bring in food from outside which is awesome because my friend ordered Domino's (I know I know) to the bar and we had a blast. I would definitely go back. Even though it is on Avenue A, the L stop on 1st ave was pretty close and the L runs very often so we did not have any issues getting there. read more

The first time was after the Yelp event at Essex Market and Essex Bar so I was pretty full from delicious food samples and cocktails. It was pretty crowded on a Thursday night so we stood by the bar. The second time was this past Friday night. We arrived after midnight and it was not terribly crowded, thankfully. My friend spotted an open booth so we snagged it quickly. The crowd seemed on the young side, maybe in their 20s, but not too rowdy. I got into the old school jukebox but had a hard time finding songs that I liked -- they were mostly indy or emo or random 80s. Plus my last quarter got stuck, but I was able to push it in with another coin. There was no line for the single-use bathrooms, which was nice to see in a crowded bar. The fact that goes until 8 means even if you get stuck at work, you still have a shot at a cheap drink. Select beers are $3 for happy hour, and the selection isn't bad! Last time I got the lionshead IPA. It is an easy place to hang out. My friends got drinks without much of a wait even though the bar was full. They have a great staff!! If you can, score a table near the door because it gets a little toasty in the back. But it's worth it for a seat. The bar isn't too loud and isn't too quiet.
