The Immigrant is a charming little gem in east village, offering the perfect warm and intimate ambiance for a cozy night out. We arrived on a Friday evening, and despite it being fairly early, both the tap room and the main room were packed. Just as we were about to leave, the bartender came to let us know a table was about to open up. We were then seated in the coziest, cutest nook by the front window--arguably the best spot in the house! The table was perfectly snug for our group of four. And although it was crowded, the noise level was just right and not overbearing at all, so we were able to comfortably enjoy our conversations. Throughout the night, the bartender managed to find time to take our orders and check in with us regularly. Their drink selection is solid, though if you're a fan of sweeter cocktails like I am, it might feel a bit more limited. That said, I highly recommend the the Saint Andrew if you're looking for something sweet and fruity. tldr; tight yet cozy & cute space, perfect for easy drinks/good company. Came here for a date one Friday night and one-word AMBIANCE. This place oozes a nice sexy atmosphere, with the dim lights and cozy structure. We found seats close to the bar, our table held a candle on it which I thought was really cute. The only downside was the bartender was the only person to take orders, so you have to get up and go to him. But besides that this place is a nice little gem spot. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places. I met a date there last night, and we sat down and needed to catch up. The bartender came by and asked us what we wanted and my date said she needed a couple minutes. It felt like we all agreed he would come back in a couple minutes (there are like 4 tables). Well, he didn't, and we talked for about 30 minutes, and then I decided I'm going to have to go to the bar to get the drinks. So I go to the bar, with cash in my hand, and the bartender says "I'm not serving you. If you want to talk there's a coffee shop down the street. Goodbye". That's it. I'm just shocked. Be aware of over charging at the bar! We went there recently for Happy Hour and after all it was far away from being happy. Drinks are ok, nothing extraordinary, which is fine. But we were charged "standard" prices instead of "happy hour" prices and on top of it one credit card was double charged and we had to pay twice for the same drink that has been paid already separately. Free olives with a check-in which is what I was most excited about! We came here on a Friday night and because the bar is so narrow, it was hard to find seating. Eventually we did and I ordered the bees knees which was good - not great, had too much honey. My friends didn't think any of their drinks were too great either - just average. Definitely my favorite bar in the city! The noise level for the conversations in the bar reflect well on the people who frequent The Immigrant. You have this nice low timbre buzz -- no obnoxiously loud bankers or hyper extroverts! The decor is also incredible and woodsy. They have soft old school music playing. And the barman has a phenomenal mustache. We got the Dogfish Head Peche and the Harpoon Cider, along with the Yelp offer for free olives! The Dogfish was incredibly fruity and aromatic. The cider was savory and on the heavy-side, rather than the light soda tasting ciders you get usually. Both were amazing! The menu has a short list of wine and beer available. I like how they curate to give you fewer choices, and based on our experience, I'm sure each of those choices is delicious. The pour was also incredible with the perfect 15-20% head. Overall, great bar with great beers on tap and a great barman. Highly recommend! read more

A cute, intimate bar in East Village. I came here with a friend on a weeknight and we sat in a small table in the back. This place feels very private and I liked that very much. I had one of their sweet wines and it was wayyyyy too sweet. I don't even think it was a dessert wine. Service first seemed great - waitress came by a couple of times but then just disappeared and we decided to go to the counter to pay. I would come back here if I want to have a conversation but this isn't really the place to mingle and meet people. read more

Walked in here on a Friday night while we were trying to kill our 1.5 hour wait for Thursday Kitchen and managed to get a table. The bar is narrow and good for small groups of 2-4. The beer selection is short and crisp which makes life much easier. I'm a fan of wheat beer but the closest they had was the Saison DuPont and the Spring Ale. Both the beers were good and so was the service. If you are super hungry, this is not the place for you. Just a few bar snacks on the menu. Return? Yes. Menu feels a little light/short - for a wine bar with upscale beers on tap I would've liked to see a much more robust listing of wines other than the ~25 wines crammed onto a single page. A downright serene place to be in the East Village on a Friday night. That doesn't mean it was Burp Castle level of quiet, but it's what I would expect in a civilized place on a Friday. The staff were super nice and accommodating, if busy. I felt immediately at home. The beer list is nice, but for New York, it's a little tame. They lean towards mainstream Belgian beers and just one or two interesting numbers (a Dogfish Head collabo that the bartender oddly panned as "maybe you shouldn't get it, it tastes like Bud". Angeline P. got it, and it was definitely a little better than that.) Either way, this isn't a beer head's place, it's just OK in that department. It however is a purpose driven place to hang out, have a round, and catch up with some friends. Beers run about $8 and wines about $10. It's an average and respectable price for the neighborhood but not awesome. That makes it a 3 but with the above average design and mood and overall calm compared to the adjacent Village Pourhouse type places in the area, I'd bump it to a 4. Drinks: They have a pretty extensive list of beers and descriptions, but I decided to go for the cider, which is $6. Wonderfully delicious. There is a beer with a hint of apricots ($7) that I would like to try next time! Their beers are all about $6-7. Atmosphere: You can sit at the bar or in the back, where there are individual tables. Each table has a lit candle, so it makes for a cute romantic setting. ;) It was 3/4 full when I went on Thursday around 9. Good noise level - not too loud, but not too quiet. Service: Good service. They came to take our order (didn't have to go to the bar to place it yay) and brought us the check after. If you check in, they give you free olives. Too bad I don't like olives though! Really enjoyed this place. My friend and I came here after walking around for a place to go after a show and it totally took us by surprise. The atmosphere is totally laid back and chill. While there was only one bartender manning the bar and the tables, he was really great and attentive. Had no problem suggesting different beers if they ran out of the one you wanted and was fast to get you another round if needed. Not an excessively long list of beer, but definitely varied enough for everyone's tastes. It was great for a catchup session with my friend and we will definitely be back. read more

The Immigrant Wine Bar is now 2x better! They've expanded to The Immigrant Tap Room, you walk outside and on the left is a craft beer bar with about dozen beers on tap. Great place to hang out with friends, trust your barman Yuri's advice and go with the spider bite double IPA! Same owner, same address, you can buy wine on the other side and bring it back. Low key place, friendly knowledgeable staff, great to chat with friends. Beer menu is rotating, but currently they've got some very solid choices - probably the best on the menu, spider bite double IPA (sweet and strong, not overpoweringly hoppy) a very crisp Belgian pilsner, rich dark Founder's porter, plus another special edition Ommegang, plus another 6 others I can't remember. Not a big place, but several times I've been wondering around the EV wondering where to grab a quick drink. The immigrant tap room has come up a couple times and both times the little sitting area in the window was available. They have a number of solid beers on tap, plus wine (which I also believe comes in via tap). Prices are what you would expect -- $7-8 for a beer. Great place to chill for a couple of hours. Went for the Wine Room but they were full, went to the Tap Room, but they only had window seats. This was on a Wednesday night, so be advised The Immigrant can be very busy and it is advised you make reservations for the Wine Room. This is not a place for variety. Don't get me wrong, there are some interesting choices on the menu as well as your usual suspects. This is also not a place to go if you're hungry. We came here for the drinks and the cheese and meat platter and that was perfect. Though, once again, not much variety here. The Tap Room isn't for privacy. It can get loud. So if you're looking for romantic, try next door. $46 + tip for two glasses of Chardonnay and two glasses of Belgian beer and a cheese and meat platter. read more

Given how popular The Immigrant is, they expanded to a craft beer bar right next door. They also have about 5 or 6 wines in the Tap Room, so you can still get your wine fix if you wanted. I had a really good beer - I forget what it is called, but I knew it was good from the description - it talked about having brown sugar and spicy flavors, I believe. I recall it being an amalgamation of all the good things of different liquors: the warmth of bourbon, the spice of wine, and the palate-cleansing mouthfeel of beer. Get that beer! read more

Only stayed for 1 beer with a group of 5 people. We definitely lucked out by arriving just when the corner couch and table seats were being cleaned up. Definitely not for large groups more than 5. Nice place. Very intimate and great for a first date for drinks. Only drawback is the size. Does not hold many people. I'd say about 20 on the wine side. I was lucky enough to arrive early got the last seat at the bar and moved my way to small table in the back which was ideal. Prices are reasonable with not an overly large selection. I can say with 100% confidence that this place has the WORST SERVICE IN ALL OF NYC. To the gentleman with the manbun behind the counter (and I have nothing against man buns): it wouldn't hurt to check to see how your guests are doing even once, if they want a refill, or even briefly introduce the menu when the bar is not busy at all. He was so disrespectful from the moment we walked in, and he continued to sigh and roll his eyes as we ordered our drinks. I'm not expecting my bartenders to always be in the best mood possible and be 'chipper,' but at least engage me a little bit, and do your most basic responsibilities as a bartender. Recently went here both before and after attending a show at the Theater for the New City. Small, intimate space with great ambiance and incredibly friendly and attentive bartenders. They had a great selection of beer on tap and I really enjoyed the wheat beer from a brewery in Woburn, MA. I am looking forward to coming back to try the wine bar.
