We came here on a Friday night and got a table right away. The ambiance is quite eclectic and crowded but they make it work! We got the Korean barbecue nachos, a burger, and fish/chips for food but it was subpar. The positive notes are that the wonton chips were innovative and the fish was crispy but all the food lacked flavor. However, their drinks are strong and certainly make up for it so if you just need a place to meet up with friends for drinks, this is it! read more

While the bartenders have always been nice. There seems to be inconsistency in the making of drinks and food. The last time we were in here my husband had two old fashioned's. The first one was a good standard drink. The second, was not mixed well and had sugar sludge on the bottom. We ordered an appetizer to share and felt that what was described was not what we got. As well as some of the ingredients, the sliced vegetables, seemed a little "off." read more

Chris was our server and he took exceptional care of 6 of us. The fish and chips and chicken tenders were cooked to perfection. The coleslaw made with kale was some of the best we've ever had. People who rate this place good must mostly eat at fast food restaurants. The food is mediocre at best and way overpriced. Most sandwiches are about 20 bucks and not worth half that. When you're the only place on the main Street in Pinehurst you can charge and serve what you want unfortunately and get away with it. Locals only go there to drink as there are many better places around including McDonalds ! read more

I'm local to Pinehurst and have been to the Drum & Quill dozens of times. I like the place and have enjoyed many meals there, but I have to say the quality of the food has been declining- at least for my wife and me. I've ordered the shrimp tacos many times. They'd arrive in a stand that held the tacos up, making it easy to pick them up, and always tasty. Last night, the tacos arrived without a stand, not rolled up at all, and soaked in butter or some kind of grease. Just flat circles on a metal tray covered in grease with the shrimp on top. My wife ordered fish and chips, and both were overdone- in fact you'd consider the chips (French fries) to be burned. So what gives? I'm writing this after being disappointed the last three times. It's been a gradual slide and I'm just about ready to give the place up entirely. That would be a real shame, we've been rooting for these guys for many years. Fix it! read more

I'm a little confused on the 4+ star ratings as our experience was far from four stars; to be blunt, everything was horrible. We had two drinks, fish & chips and a burger, both with fries. Both drinks were simple but disappointing. The fries were old and cold. The burger was so greasy my bun was too soaked to pick up. The fish was equally as greasy and didn't finish. We were both still hungry and decided to try the potato salad that had some good reviews; while not bad it was not good. With tip our bill for two with two drinks, two entrees and two addition sides was $80.00, not shocking but painful for a horrible dinner. UPDATE: Within 30 mins of posting the above review the manager contacted me for details and offered a refund. Impressive managment response. I declined the offer but much appreciated. read more

Guess I am the exception.. I was treated bad. Got my drink wrong. Waitress was rude. My fish tacos were cold. I think she knew me as I am a chef. she recognized me, and made it very clear I was not welcome. I paid my bill and did not my finish my drink or my lunch and tipped her according to my bill 25%. We are Pinehurst Locals and have lived here for over 24 years. We usually choose a locally owned restaurant when we go out to eat. I choose Drum & Quill because they used to have a Beyond Meat Burger on their menu (I'm vegetarian)...well, they removed it due to low interest. probably because they charged too much! I ordered the Fried Green Tomato Caprese Salad instead. It came out with a slice of underripe red tomato topped with a hunk of mozzarella and an over battered Black/Burnt green tomato...no lie! Black/Burnt! The server actually brought that out to the table as if I'm going to eat that ...? also, NO fresh basil in sight. I declined another order...yuck! They brought one out anyway...and this one was swimming in olive oil...WTH? My husbands burger didn't look any better than the nearby Hardee's burger, yet it cost 3x as much. I won't go back, ever. This isn't the first time the food has been awful. Don't go if you want to eat...I guess it's OK for a beer, but that's it. read more

Cocktails were great but The Old Fashion was fantastic, classically done and delicious. We ordered the Mahi Tacos and Fish and Chips. The tacos were really good and had a sweet mango picadillo on top, which made them sweet and savory. You get 2 good sized tacos and a couple of fried crunchy wonton chips on the side. The Fish and Chips was our favorite. You get 3 large portions of fried fish with house made chips. 2 can easily eat from this plate. We will definitely recommend and be back! read more

I really wanted this to be a great dinner and great review. But we can't always get what we want. Pro: margaritas were good. Cons: menu is deceptive. We ordered tacos that are advertised as having "superfood avocado slaw." This was slaw straight out of the tub from the food lion. No avocado and last time I checked, regular cabbage was not a superfood. Two tacos and a few wanton chips for $16. Way overpriced. Service was painfully slow. Painfully. We just wanted to leave and felt like we were being held hostage waiting on our check. Hopefully this was just an off night. read more

Ventured on over to Drum & Quill the day after St Patrick's Day. Pinehurst is a good half way point to meet my Mother-in-law and after reading the positive reviews Drum & Quill was our meeting point. It also didn't hurt that they were open Sunday evening when a lot of restaurants were closed. The Carolina game was on so the place definitely was a bit rowdy, had to yell a bit to be hurt. To be expected, but just be aware if you are heading in during the game. We ordered a few appetizers and dinner and then waited . . . and waited. After waiting half hour with no fried okra in sight I was starting to get super antsy. Ten minutes later our waitress Lacey came over and apologized, our ticket had been lost in the computer system and didn't get put through. Who I believe to be the owner also came over and apologized. Then they informed us the whole meal would be on them. Ummm what?! I thought they might say appetizer on us, nope! That is why they are getting five stars, talk about recognizing their mistake and wanting to make it right. I was super impressed!!! On to the food, we started with the fried okra and fried green tomatoes. Both were very tasty. For my meal I got the corn beef and cabbage and it was delicious. Really tasty!! My husband got the beef and brie sandwich and devoured it and my mother in law really enjoyed her fish tacos. The menu is huge with a little something for everyone. We will be back! read more

Not my 1st time here and always been good before today. Everything that could go wrong, did. Very long wait. Finally seated and another 45 min before food came. I ordered shrimp plate and it was cold. Frys were greasy they were so cold. They made it right by cooking shrimp again and they were very good, hot. The server did the best she could although we had to ask for silver ware but not the beer she kept pushing. Today was the second time here, hot wings were better than the first time( I didn't think they could get better but they did)! I chose the steak and eggs special, the steak a 6oz ribeye full of delicious flavor, the eggs had been cooked just like my grandmother did, so to say I loved them would be an understatement! My first experience here wasn't bad so I decided to come back with my family when they were visiting from out of town. 1. We were told 25 minutes for a wait (sounds good). We get a text 5 minutes later saying our table was ready so we dropped what we were doing in the shops and head that way. We get our group together and when we approach the hostess, we were told that it was an accident. Annoying but not a big deal. We leave and come back about 20 minutes later and the table they sat us at was not big enough for our group (annoying but not the end of the world). 2. Waitress finally comes over and takes our drink/food orders. (Saturday/Sunday is their brunch until 2PM and it was Saturday around 12PM.) - ordered the steak and eggs (brunch item) - ordered the grilled shrimp Benedict (brunch item) - ordered the Brie burger - ordered the Cobb Salad - 2 orders of French onion soup. - beverages After taking our order and walking away, the waitress comes back a few minutes later and apologizes but tells us they don't have the shrimp Benedict. It sounded delicious so I was disappointed but understand that restaurants run out of specific meals sometimes. I change my meal to the shrimp and grits (worst decision ever, but I'll cover that below). After taking my new order she then informs us that they don't have the steak and eggs either. She then said they don't have any of the brunch items on the menu. What?? You only serve brunch two days a week and this is literally the first day of your brunch weekend! And only one hour after you open! Disappointed once again, we order a different item off of the menu. The waitress apologizes again and takes our new order back to the kitchen. A few minutes go by again and a waiter (maybe the manager?) comes to our table and tells us that they don't have the Brie for the Brie burger. At this point it would have been easier if they told us what they had in the beginning and we chose from that list. No one informed our waitress that they were out of Brie so we had to get her attention in order to change our meal. We switched the item to a patty melt cooked medium and asked to add an additional soup. 3. Two of the soups came out before our meals but I figured since we ordered the third soup later we might have to wait an extra minute or two for them to melt the cheese over top of the third soup. After our first two soups arrive, all of our food comes out at the same time. A few issues with that. First, I had a side salad I was trying to eat fast so that my shrimp and grits didn't get cold. Second (remember from the beginning of this rant), we were sat at a table that wasn't adequate for our group or the amount of food we ordered. So now we are trying to juggle plates/drinks/condiments around the table. 4. The patty melt that was ordered medium was no where near medium. It was rare. I regret not taking a picture as proof but I wasn't expecting to write a review at that time either. 5. Third soup still isn't out yet. So In addition to asking for silverware/napkins that weren't showing up, the third soup came out toward the end of the meal. 6. Shrimp and grits?? I took a few bites and had to stop trying to eat it. To be nice about it, it wasn't good. 7. It was one thing after another. After a while we just wanted to stop hearing apologies and wanted people to just do their job. I'm not blaming the waitress because a lot of things were out of her hands but if I was her, I would have talked to the manager and maybe offered a dessert or comped drink. Anything at this point. Not only did they never ask about the majority of our meals that are barely touched, they then made sure to charge us the extra $2 to split the patty melt and the Cobb salad!! You cut the patty melt to split it!! How did you not notice it was rare??? I'm really happy they got the extra $2 out of us because we will not be spending anymore money here. 8. The only pro to this lunch was getting ice cream at another place around the corner. read more

Cute indoor spot, outdoor has overhead fans, but the patio is extremely intimate. You will hear nearby convos whether you want to or not, and they most likely hear yours as well. Food was meh. Cocktail menu was good! Staff was on point, never had to ask for anything and made frequent rounds. Bottom line: this isn't where I would come for dinner, but promising spot for a happy hour. They have brunch, I haven't tried it, but holding out hope. read more

We arrived at the restaurant for a later lunch, we wanted to sit on the patio because it was a nice day! We went inside and told someone we wanted to sit out there and a man sat us and said "Alex will be with you shortly." We started looking over the menu and we noticed a server walking around, training someone. We waited for about 10-15 mins with no service, then an older couple came by and they also requested to sit on the patio. Once the older couple was sat, a different server came out and asked us if we had been helped, we said no. And then she began training the girl from before and mentioned we were supposed to be Alex's table but she'd be taking care of us. I gave it 5 stars because Leah, the server who took our table was super nice and knowledgeable. We had the nachos with bbq, the chips were light and perfect! I had the Korean tacos, loved them with French Fries. And my friend had a mushroom swiss burger which she said was great. Overall great food and service at the end. First time back in a while at Drum and Quill. The pub is still cozy and inviting place. Me and why wife heard they had a new chef. We had the crab cake a chicken and waffles which were both incredible. It was very busy, labor day crowd, but the chef checked on us several times cause they were short a server. Our waitress Victoria was wonderful and attentive. The outdoor area is nice cause we could have our dog. 100% will be back read more

Not sure if this is the norm, but we went here during the US Open week, ordered food, waited neatly 2 hours, and left without being served. The other guests at the restaurant had the same experience. They will keep filling your beer mug, but didn't provide updates on the expected ETA for the good and did not warn us that their kitchen was way behind in serving people. So sorry but food was mediocre. Been coming here for 10 years and quality has gone down hill. Ruebun sandwich had burnt pastrami, steak and eggs had a steak that was tough and fatty and over cooked. Manager reached out via email to explain charges. My response was this: Thank you for reaching out. As I mentioned in my review, the price increase for two adults splitting the meal, I would totally understand. However, this was for a 3 and 4 year old, something we do all the time simply get two plates to split one same meal because they won't eat anything extra, we actually do it on kids meals when there is a kids menu available (split the kids meal that normally comes with 4 chicken fingers so each kid gets two), they never eat an entire meal on their own so as parents were not going to waste either. We did state when we ordered "the kids will split the chicken fingers" and never asked for anything extra. And when we asked about the charge on the ticket, we once again expressed that it was for the kids not for adults, she asked management and they still said the charge stays. Just something that customers should be aware of since there is no kids menu. read more
