I was pleasantly surprised with how great the food was here. I expected it to be your average tasting chicken BUT after I had the first buffalo champagne I couldn't stop eating. I mean even after the heat hit my taste buds I was determined to keep going. I keep throwing back those delicious pieces of chicken like it was my last night being able to eat meat. Also had a small order of JJ's which is basically more chicken, well chicken fried potatoes which is one of the best ideas anyone has come up with. Tried it for the first time last week. Fried chicken breast was awesome. Crispy and non-greasy. Yummy fried mushrooms. I don't understand the concept of having deviled eggs here, they don't seem to belong, but we had to try them. Not how I'm used to them being prepared (there seemed to be mustard in the mixture) but hey, I liked them. Probably would get a 4 pack again. Macaroni and cheese was alright, great taste, but the macaroni was cooked too much. Pretty good cole-slaw. Not really a "sit-down" place as there was one picnic table in there and 3 bar stools, a run down pacman arcade game and a "claw" game machine with outdated prizes from the 90's in it. This is not first time trying this place since the 3 years I've known about it. When I initially walked in, it smelt pretty fishy, but now sitting here I realized it smells more like if you put a kitchen in a barn. Hey, I'm not saying it's bad. Little chilly in here. The woman that took our order was very attentive and nice and didnt get bothered by us being slow. The inside is really nice and I love the decor. Seems very clean. I dont know how busy it gets in here but they only have a total of 3 tables and 6 chairs. So if you're getting an order for a big party, taking out is best. It is a small place so it makes sense. The food took a little while to come out but that's okay, and I was mostly happy with the experience of customer service. Now to the food. (I'm just to give a heads up, I dont really like chicken that has the bone in it, unless the chicken is moist, and the batter/skin isnt too hard for my teeth and mostly just is crispy, salty, or mostly just melts in my mouth.) So we got the 8 bucket wings, mashed potatoes with gravy on side and the sweet home made coleslaw. I didnt like the coleslaw, so I'll try the other one next time. It's too choppy for me, barely mayonnaise, the flavor isnt really there. I love the potatoes but I dont like to gravy. The gravy is weak and a little gross to me I guess? Like.. I've had better home made gravy before. The chicken was great. And thats what I originally came here for. I wish there was a 3.5 because I dobt think this place quite deserves a 3. Good BBQ. The menu seemed a little small to me. I recommend the pulled pork sandwich with JJ potatoes.

An almost 5 star as this is one of my favorite places to eat in Connecticut. An authentic southern food place hidden away on Main Street in Bridgeport. Service is always nice even thought they can be a little slow but that's only a minor price to pay for great food! I constantly recommend this place to people (specifically the pulled pork, sides such as Mac and cheese and collard greens, and wings). If you ever want soul food, then this is definitely the place to go. They can defiantly work on minor things to enhance their flavor and quality of food however it doesn't stop me from coming back. read more

This place is not bad. I really liked the fact that they fry their chicken to order. Fried Chicken is something meant to be enjoyed fresh, not from under a hot light. So they win for that. The mac and cheese could of been better, it did not taste like baked mac n cheese to me. I prefer my collard greens to be cooked with smoked turkey and not bacon. I picked the bacon pieces out. I don't even know where to begin with this. Like others who read the reviews here, I am always in search of what is perceived as the "best anything" be it food, service, etc., so it was no different when I had a craving for chicken, I came to yelp. Upon reading the reviews for this place, I thought: "Man do I really want to waste gas driving down to Bridgeport..." Lo and behold I took the +40 minute trip. Before I speak about the food, I am starting to believe some of these businesses listed here are somehow gaming yelp reviews. Be it having friends, family, etc place reviews... My faith in Yelp has been dwindling. Enough of that though, let's talk about the food. Growing up in NYC (Brooklyn to be exact), I had no problem with the location of this establishment. Who hasn't seen people playing dice in the alleys surrounded by 40oz of beer, the smell of "trees", and the overall quick thought: "Should I have wore my bulletproof vest just to come here and get chicken?" The location is dive-tacular and parking is a mess. Unless you don't mind the typical pants-sagging, trap-music listening local wanna be thug, you're likely going to want to skip out eating in the establishment. Then again, if you did bring your bulletproof vest, some bling, whatever floats your boat. (Being semi-sarcastic by the way). As Wendy Williams would say: "You in the hood now baby." Irrelevant to an extent, but funny. The wait? Horrible. You may take this as a good sign: "They're always full! This is because the food is so good!... This is why you have to wait so long..." Nonsense. The food here is bland. Bland with a slight taste of bland. I have had better chicken from Stop and Shop, Big Y, and dare I offend people... KFC. The food left a lot to be desired, most of which is taste. There is zero taste to their chicken. No tangy taste, no zippy taste, nothing that screams: "Oh wow!" The chicken tastes like I ate a spoon of Crisco. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? ... Who knows but I can tell you I won't be caught on another day as I won't waste my time driving to this place again. The funniest portion of this all, is when upon paying for my food with my Amex, I was told "We always require picture ID's" This should let you know what kind of place you're eating at. A solid choice when deciphering where to get wings from for dinner or for a get together. The wings are good but I don't believe I would classify them as the "best". The sauces are pretty good here in particular the tangy BBQ sauce. Good sauce to wing ratio. Also a fan of their deviled eggs and fried chicken livers. Ribs here are fatty and dont have the best flavor. Also not a big fan of the sides, often taste like they've been sitting for a while. Prices are fair for the amount of food you get. Parking is not the best, very limited and tight. Also not the most spacious restaurant. Everything is made to order here so be sure to call ahead. read more

Stopped in for lunch while getting a flat fixed across the street. The food was good, but everything was deep fried. I don't think anything was bbq'd. The people were nice, but we had to ask for forks and napkins. It wasn't clear they had lunch sized portions of anything. The green slaw was good. Food is pretty good, but not good enough to put up with the rude staff. We called in an order, and picked it up. When we got home, we realized they had given us the wrong item (breaded, unsauced wings instead of unbreaded, sauced ones). My husband called up to tell the staff and make sure we weren't charged for something we didn't order. He was repeatedly told that he should have read the readout on the register before paying. I'm not sure why they thought we'd know which abbreviated names correspond to which menu item, especially when they were both wings, but there was no apology, just blame where it didn't belong. We asked that the charges be reversed, and were told they'd pass the message and our number along to their manager. So far, there's been no call back. We're really close to this place, but there are two other fried chicken places on the way, plus an *amazing* Chinese restaurant next door that also has fried chicken. Had the double chicken breast combo with mashed potatoes (the gravy was amazing, little bites of chicken mixed into the gravy), cole slaw was ok - a little too much vinegar flavor. The fried chicken is really fried and wonderfully crispy. The meat on the ribs falls off the bone. The french fried potatoes are hot and tasty. Try the wings. And there are plenty of other choices for sides. If you can, call ahead to pick up your order as this isn't an eat in place. Once you come here you will be a regular. Parking sucks and is limited but once you bite into that hot juicy chicken you won't care about the parking. And remember it is only rib sauce on your fingers, so lick it off but don't bite down. read more

I had them cater my sister's Kentucky derby themed bridal shower. The food was awesome! I'm giving them 4 stars because the pulled pork isn't very good and the yams were way too sweet. The fried chicken, collard greens, Cole slaw and deviled eggs were a huge hit. Best fried chicken in this area. They were also extremely helpful when my mom went to pick up all the trays they placed them all in the car for her. I would definitely use them again for parties. read more
