I've had a Drybar membership for a while mostly because I love the concept of someone else washing and drying my hair. But if I'm being honest... the blowouts usually need a little fixing when I get home. This was the first time I walked out thinking she actually did a better job than I would have done myself. Nothing to fix. It looked great the second I left the chair. She was super friendly, there was free valet, and the whole experience just felt easy and polished. I've been to probably eight different Drybars around California and this one is hands down the best. I can see why it has better reviews than the others I've been to. I understand going to a drybar is a gamble and even though I've been a customer for over six years in various Orange County locations, this one unfortunately does not meet the standard, which is also very sad because it's located inside a gorgeous resort. I've came to this location multiple times due to scheduling/availability. And this one fall short for various reasons but truthfully, they need to figure out their front of house/manager situation. The very few times I've came, each time gets worse and worse. They only have about two or three stylists on the floor hence why their scheduling is so horrible. This last time I think every single minor thing that had happened to me in other visits, all happened at the same time for this one. When I book online, I make sure to put in the notes my hair type and also check off any type of add-ons for what I will be needing that day (assuming that they would accommodate or give me a call if they can't). Since I do have textured hair, I understand sometimes the 45 minute appointment might need some more time and if I do an add-on. I expressed in my notes what I need and sometimes they'll do what I ask sometimes they won't. This time around, as soon as I saw the stylist that was gonna work on me I already knew there was gonna be an issue. As soon as she touches my hair and plays with it for five seconds, she then tells the front desk/MOD that it's gonna take her more than 45 minutes in sort of an irritable attitude. Again, I put that in my booking notes in order for this to NOT HAPPEN. MOD then is playing around with her scheduling books and tells her to leave. The other stylist that I got paired with was still able to do my hair, but there was sort of some tension due to the fact that the risk switching around and the MOD didn't delegate much clearly to the girls. It also put me in an awkward position because it's not necessarily my fault, but I did feel like MOD was not doing anything in order to alleviate the situation, apologize to me, taking any accountability or even bothered to put my add-on included in my tab, which I had to express multiple times in order to get it. I can see why people have expressed this location, canceling their appointments last minute, trying to stack multiple clients in one day amongst three girls, and are not client focused whatsoever, just profit. It's very disappointing and I really hope something changes at this location. read more

Extremely disappointing I've been a loyal Drybar monthly member ($99/month) for over a year and have always enjoyed visiting this Newport Beach - Balboa Bay Club location, which made today's experience especially disappointing. I originally scheduled my appointment online for 12:45 p.m. Earlier that morning, around 11:00 a.m., I received a call from the salon explaining that my stylist had an emergency and asking if I would be willing to move my appointment to 2:30 p.m. While it was inconvenient and required me to rearrange other commitments, I agreed because I wanted to help accommodate their situation. When I arrived promptly at 2:30 p.m., I was told that the appointment had been moved to 1:30 p.m. instead, and there were no longer any openings. I immediately showed the manager on duty that I had updated my calendar to 2:30 p.m. during the phone call, but instead of trying to understand what had happened or offering a solution, I was repeatedly told that their records showed 1:30 p.m. What disappointed me most was not the scheduling mistake itself--mistakes happen. It was the complete lack of ownership or customer care afterward. The manager disappeared several times to speak with others in the back, returned only to tell me there was "nothing they could do," and relied solely on the fact that a confirmation email had been sent, despite the fact that I explained I had changed my calendar based on the phone conversation. I even asked to speak with the store manager or franchise owner, but was told the manager "doesn't take calls at home," and the franchise owner's information would not be provided. As a loyal member who changed my day to accommodate the salon's emergency, I expected at least an apology, some empathy, or an effort to make things right. Instead, I left feeling as though my time didn't matter and that I was somehow being blamed for their mistake. Customer service is tested when something goes wrong--not when everything goes according to plan. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of the level of professionalism and care I've come to expect. I sincerely hope someone from ownership reaches out, because this situation could have been resolved very differently. read more

I was just in Miami in 95 degree heat and 80% humidity and my hair held! My hair is long and healthy because of her method of styling with minimal heat exposure. This Drybar is the best in So Cal. I've gotten my hair done at this location multiple times and THEY DO NOT DISAPPOINT! The receptionists and stylists are very attentive and over all amazing people. Traumatic - I have been verbally attacked by Tara the front desk receptionist on this the third event. The poor business acumen for planning timing is being blamed on the client & with an attitude. If all other Dry bars from La to fashion island take 45-55 min for a full blow out -why does balboa take 1:15 then reprimand the customer? This is such an unpleasant experience each time I encounter this particular girl with very irritable offensive gesticulations & speech. As a business owner myself, I am astounded this location stays in operation at what should be a highly professional hotel location. I am an avid hotel guest & potential club member who will think twice given these aggressive low level experiences. I hope Bbay club recognizes the unprofessional pattern & takes action. My daughter was promoting from middle school so I decided to give her her first blowout for the special occasion. I know lots of people get them often, especially in Newport but I'm a stay at home mom and this was a special treat as the total after tip was $92. The front desk receptionist was extremely friendly! We didn't have a long wait. We did upgrade to the anti-frizz treatment that is supposed to last two to three washed and did not notice a difference so save your extra $15. Liliana is the stylist who did my daughter's hair and unfortunately the end product was not close to the picture my daughter showed her for inspiration. My daughter had requested beach waves (like the last picture I'll attach) and got Farrah Fawcett hair or what my daughter called "grandma hair". Liliana had asked if she was happy at the end and my daughter replied yes even though I knew she would be extremely disappointed with her hair. When we got in the car she started crying saying how awful her hair was and how she wish she had just done it herself. I called dry bar and the receptionist was extremely friendly offering for me to go back in to fix it but unfortunately we did not have enough time. She told me a manager would be in touch and I never heard from a manager after that. Very disappointed and sadly will not be returning. read more

I have a membership so I go to Drybar whenever I want a blowout in whatever city I am traveling in. This one was excellent! Clean, quiet, and didn't say anything about me being 10 minutes late (although I had called beforehand and was told by some customer service rep that the location may not be able to take me because I was late - which is their standard response, not because they had spoken to the location). Caroline did my hair and I LOVED the way it came out. We had such great conversation and she was so kind! I'm getting married in Laguna Beach next year and have to come out about once a month to deal with wedding things, so I will definitely be back! I've been a regular of DryBar in the cities I've lived the past 5 years: Phoenix, Dallas, New York. I never thought I'd get my bridal hair done at a DryBar....but it turned out GREAT and if I had to get married again (I hope I don't!), I'd do my hair at DryBar again! I booked 10 appointments for the DryBar at Balboa Bay the morning of May 6th (day of the wedding). They were able to accommodate all of my bridesmaids, my mom, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law and me (bride!). Regan was the stylist for myself and my maid of honor -- and she was FANTASTIC! My maid of honor has tough hair to work with and Regan even retouched it up a few times to make sure my maid of honor was comfortable with a hairstyle that she wasn't used to! I've visited this Drybar a few times, and while the stylists are truly talented and always provide great service, my experiences have been overshadowed by the unprofessional behavior of the manager, Breaunna Chiesa. It's unfortunate because the staff is amazing -- they work hard, create beautiful looks, and ensure a welcoming atmosphere, but the overall vibe of the place is negatively impacted by Breaunna's management style and her customer service. Very very blunt attitude From the moment I interacted with her, I felt that she lacked the courtesy and professionalism that should come with a leadership role. As a customer, it's disheartening to be treated with such a dismissive attitude, and it certainly makes me question her supervisor Leticia Rice. Breaunna seems more focused on maintaining a tense and uptight environment rather than fostering the warm, enjoyable experience that should be at the core of a business like this. In contrast, the stylists work hard to create a positive space and deliver excellent service. I really wish they had a manager who could match their level of expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, as long as Breaunna remains in charge, poor customer service and a lack of professionalism will be at the top. read more

I have been a loyal Drybar customer for 10 years, but after my experience on November 30th, I am questioning why I've been so loyal. I had an appointment at 11:30 a.m., and due to the valet parking being completely unavailable because of a Christmas festival outside the location, I arrived six minutes late. I even tried calling the salon while I was waiting for valet parking, but no one answered my call or bothered to care. When I walked in, the receptionist rudely informed me that because I was "seven minutes late," they wouldn't have enough time to wash my hair--something I've NEVER experienced before at Drybar for being just a few minutes late. The manager of location was extremely rude as well. Instead, they limited my options to a dry style or a rushed wash and straight blow-dry with no hot tools. I came specifically to get my hair washed and styled, and being told I couldn't get the service I booked due to a delay beyond my control was completely unreasonable. Reluctantly, I agreed to the rushed wash and blow-dry. However, the stylist rushed through the entire process, doing such a terrible job that there were 10 minutes to spare at the end of my appointment--proving that they easily could have done a proper job if they cared. My hair was poorly styled, and I left looking worse than when I came in. The stylist's excuse was that my hair was "too long and curly" and they didn't have enough time--yet, somehow, they had time to spare after rushing through everything. The rudeness of the staff, the lack of customer service, and the dismissive attitude were absolutely appalling. This is not the Drybar I've known and loved for the past decade. This wasn't just bad service--it was outright disrespectful. Drybar, you should be ashamed of how your team treated a loyal customer. If this is how you handle slight delays caused by circumstances beyond your customer's control, I won't be returning. You've lost a longtime customer over this, and I'll make sure others are aware of how poorly you treat the people who keep your business running. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Avoid this location at all costs unless you enjoy being treated rudely, rushed through your service, and left with terrible results. Unacceptable. read more

I have curly hair and she makes me look like an absolute princess! They were more than 30 minutes late, unapologetic, rude, unprofessional, and unethical. They were unable to enable me to pay until the fourth or fifth time, and wasted so much time, I had to cancel my dinner appointment. When I expressed my frustration with their horrible attitudes, they became confrontational. They then proceeded to call security and the police after I left, falsely alleging my boyfriend was confrontational and that he was armed with a firearm. He never spoke a word to anyone and was outside the entire time. The police arrived, detained my boyfriend, disarmed him, only to realize he is licensed to conceal carry weapons, after which he was immediately released with his weapons, with an apology for the inconvenience from the Newport Beach police officers but never from the poorly trained security guards from the building with terrible judgment. Those two clowns at Drybar (front desk, and hairstylist who I gave $10 cash) also failed miserably to do my hair. It was my worst visit to any salon. Drybar at the Balboa Club is a clown show extraordinaire. Never will another penny leave my wallet at that location. I will be certain to post about this in every media forum. Good luck keeping the doors open with employees who forget where they are located in the map and yell at customers who are seeking a nice experience. God Knows where they take them from! read more
