I've been going to Lina for about 10 years now (even as she's moved salons, I've followed her because she's just that good). She does my color and Lauren does my cuts and honestly, they're both amazing. I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner, but I almost feel like I'd be gatekeeping if I didn't share them at this point. The salon is always very professional and organized, and I really appreciate that level of consistency. I always get appointment reminders well in advance and again right before my visit, which makes everything so easy to keep track of with a busy schedule. Hung is the best hair stylist !!!! My hair noticed a huge difference when I got hair cuts else where . My natural hair is thick , coarse and wavy . I was going to another stylist at a different salon because it was cheaper but my hair always felt heavy and felt like a chore trying to style it . However if I'm being honest I come here because I would follow Brian Agulair to the moon. The idea of letting anyone else touch my hair at this point practically makes me nauseous. I've been going to KBS since 2013 I believe. It's been forever. I've never had a bad experience at any of the salons and I've been to all three. In the last 5-7 years I've been going to the Newport salon to see Trevor. He's seen my hair in all its stages! From super long to chopping a short bob and after having a baby. He's the absolute best. The salon is also so great, the front staff is always really friendly. It's always clean and they have a nice list of beverages if you fancy anything other than water! THE DRIVE WAS WORTH IT! I hardly make Yelp reviews,let's start there. I crossed paths with Soly on Instagram in the beginning of this year and fell in love with her before and after pictures! (Typically hair dressers in LA turn you down every time you want a very blondy balayage, NOT SOLY )In my past I've always been unsuccessful trying to meet my "hair goal" and I knew Soly would be the ONE who would transform my hair into something I've never been able to accomplish. I have been going to Kenneth Brown Salons for the last 5 years and Katrina has been doing my hair for the last 3. She is amazing because she will give her honest opinion of what is best for the integrity of your hair, but is not pushy whatsoever. My hair has gotten in much better condition since Katrina has been coloring it - which can be tough with blondes. Also, she is a master colorist for blonde tone. I like my hair icy but it naturally has red undertones in it. Past stylists have struggled with keeping my hair from being brassy, but Katrina gets me icy blonde every time and my hair never feels dry or fried. I originally booked an appointment at the Irvine salon only to find out they canceled the evening before my sisters wedding. Since the Irvine receptionist was no help I called the Newport location myself and said I had an emergency and needed a bridal updo for the next day. Ventura scheduled the appointment for 9am and sent a confirmation text. I asked the stylists name and she said Clarissa. Upon arrival we checked in with a guy at the front desk and let him know we were there for a bridal updo. He told us the stylist wasn't in yet and to wait a few minutes. My sister gets taken to a chair and is asked what she is wanting to do. Is this not in the booking notes?? Once she tells Clarissa and shows examples of her bridal updo she says "Oh I don't do updos." What? What hair school does someone attend that they can't do updos?! They said they weren't sure why Ventura booked the appointment for a bridal updo when she doesn't know how to do bridal updos. She proceeds to tell us she's only a colorist and that it must have been a booking error. Now the second time in two days KB has messed up. We ask if there is another stylist and they said they were busy with other clients. I stated it was an emergency and they said the other stylists don't know how to do updos either... Really? So there was absolutely no options for us the morning of my sisters wedding. To top it off they kept blaming the computer or booking error as if they weren't in the wrong. They ended up suggesting a different hairdresser upstairs. How embarrassing for the hairdressers that they can't even use a few bobby pins and also for the entire poorly run business that they make this many mistakes by not communicating and have such unprofessional behavior. I was told the manager would call me which never happened. Completely unacceptable all around. read more

This review is for Jane Reynolds. This is the first bad review I have ever left; I am only posting this because I want others to avoid the huge headache I have from receiving balayage and a haircut, from Jane. This was truly the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Before booking an appointment with Jane, I sent pictures of my current hair and reference pictures of what I wanted. She initially told me that I would only need a partial balayage- so we booked for that. A week before my appointment, I sent more reference pictures and asked if I needed a full balayage treatment to achieve my desired look. I also asked if she could fix my bangs and give my dead hair a trim. She assured me that a partial balayage would work and said yes to the haircut. At 7:02 pm the evening before my appointment, she asked if I was able to come in 30 minutes early. I confirmed I was able to. On the day of the appointment, although I arrived 30 minutes early, I am told by the receptionist that Jane is running behind. Jane ends up starting my service 30 minutes late, at the original appointment time, without an apology. Before the session, I show Jane my reference pictures and discuss my desired look. She proceeds to place a very small hairdressing cape on me and starts cutting my hair. Because the cape is so small, half of my cut hair lands on my clothes. My cut hair pokes through my clothes and pokes me throughout the whole session. Next, Jane proceeds to balayage my hair. After starting, she then confirms that I will indeed need a full balayage. However, she accidentally spills a little bleach on my joggers. I have never had bleach land on my clothing or have my cut hair stuck throughout my clothes. This is because of the very small cape she used. Previously, when I've had hair services done, they use a large cape that covers my whole body. In this case, it only covered my back. After the balayage was done, she offered to curl my hair. Once seeing my hair curled, with the finished look, I was happy because I thought she achieved the platinum coloring we had discussed. While Jane checked me out, she told me there was a surcharge for using credit cards, and that she preferred Venmo. I paid and tipped her through Venmo. However, after washing my hair and seeing it in daylight, I realized it was not the color I asked for. I contacted Jane, and she said the platinum color I wanted was not achievable in one sitting. Jane should have told me this before the service started. It was fraudulent of her to say yes to my reference pictures, but post service, tell me that I needed to book another session to achieve the desired look. Jane told me to pay for another session, as her resolution. As for my bleached joggers, she said she would reimburse me. I sent her the receipt after I purchased new ones. Because I had paid her through Venmo, I initially thought she would reimburse me back through Venmo. However, she sent money through Apple Pay; something I have never used before. I requested the reimbursement through Venmo and asked her to fulfill it there. It took her 24 hours to respond and say she only used Venmo for business transactions. However, as seen in the screenshots, that is a flat-out lie. Moreover, she did not fully reimburse me. She did not include the cents. It is not about the money, but about the principal. If you tell someone you will reimburse them, you reimburse them for the full amount. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in not receiving the color I requested and being lied to. I wish Jane well in her future endeavors and am only posting this to hopefully save others the huge headache I have received. read more

Please do yourself a favor and choose Rachel! Her passion and skill for hair truly shows in her work. Prior to my newest color, I hadn't dyed my hair in four years and was very nervous about coloring it again. Rachel was so sweet and eased me into lighter hair, so as not to overwhelm me. I wish I had decent photos of my hair when it was freshly dyed the first time because WOW! It was gorgeous and I constantly received compliments on my hair. Ever since then, I've never looked back. Rachel has always kept my hair healthy and is more than willing to offer any advice in terms of post dye hair care. She's incredibly knowledgable and will make sure you and your hair are taken care of. My most recent hair change was me originally wanting to back to my natural, but also hesitant to do so. She suggested that don't go complete dark and to keep some color to give my hair dimension. BEST. DECISION. EVER! It's subtle but I think it looks beautiful! read more

One star because the owner actually called me back but never resolved my issue. I went to this Salon to get my hair done. The girl that did my hair turned my hair brassy orange. The next day she left for vacation. I paid her $350. She told me she could fix it when she returned in a week! I had a photo shoot two days after so I called the salon and requested someone please fix it for the stylist that was out. They put me in touch with another stylist . The second stylist attempted to fix, then handed me a bill for another $250! Hair still orange. I called to speak to the owner. He said because they are "independent contractors" there was nothing he could do. My hair is blonde and I've NEVER had such a horrible experience as this. $600 later and my hair is orange. If you go in and you're hair gets messed up. Be prepared to have to deal with it. Where I come from if you mess something up, you do your best to fix it. Not ignore and say oh well. The original stylist told me it wasn't her problem since I went to someone else to try and have it fixed while she was out of town. . Unreal. Apparently I was supposed to walk around with orange hair while she was vacationing. You would think she would have been kind enough to to handle the situation professionally and take the responsibility of arranging for someone to fix it since she went on vacation. No. Not here. Nice owner but terrible customer service of some of these "independent contractors". Very disappointed read more

She loves to make her clients happy and keeps it real so that she doesn't do any damage to the hair. Rachel is so passionate about hair that she never settles for giving her client's an "okay" style. Let me start by saying the salon is beautiful and the owner was very nice when returning my phone call about my hair that I had done there by a couple of the hairdressers. I hate to have to do a review like this but I don't want anyone else to have this experience and be out so much money. Giovanna did the color and while it matched the extensions she did not do around my hairline on my face see pic below so it looked all grown out from the beginning. I even went back to have her add some around my face but it was a waste of time because as you can see from the picture it was still bad. The worst part of the hair was the extensions done by Natalie. She charged $625 for 2 rows of 14 inch very thin hair and another $650 for install and a haircut that should have only been a blending on sides not on bottom. Not even sure why she charged $650 for putting them in and cutting when she normally charges $150 per row to sew in and I had only 2 rows. She basically charged an extra $350 for blending/trimming which is ridiculous. She placed the extensions near base of my head and folded both extension pieces in see pics below to fit because they were too long for where she placed them. They should have been placed above ears. See all pictures posted. You can see the quality of hair from back and that is after washing and using good shampoo leave in conditioner and argan oil. This hair was only 2 weeks after getting it put in. When I messaged Natalie and told her hair looks like bad quality hair she responded that it was good hair and to try and deep condition it. I have worn extensions 12 plus years and have never paid so much for such bad quality and short hair. Anyways I had my hair done at Great Lengths salon and the owner Paula does a fantastic job. Not only is the new hair 18 and 20 inch which is much longer and thicker but I paid only $735 which is not much more than what I paid Natalie for 14 inch broom like quality hair. Paula knows where hair should be placed and now the placement of the hair on my head is perfect. See picture below to see new extensions done elsewhere. Positives: They take very strict Covid precautions, as they should. I liked my haircut, for the most part, but it was nothing new or special. Front desk attendants were polite. Negative: This review is about Brian. I'm a first time, and last time, client. I drove from Pasadena because I had been following his IG account for months. This man barely greeted me or cared to know my name. He didn't ask me my name at all, which is very difficult to pronounce. He showed very little interest in the work that he was about to do. He also made it very clear that he didn't want me to make requests or ask questions. He would immediately shut down my questions or requests with: "you can ask me later." That was the response every time. This stylist came across as snobby, dismissive, and demeaning. I was nervous as a first time client and he went as far as saying that my energy was affecting HIM. In other words, I was making HIM feel a certain way about HIMSELF. This man needs therapy. Brian comes across as mellow but he's not; he's simply passive aggressive and afraid of/intimidated by feedback. In the end, he told me that he's lucky to have level-headed people as clients (not me, was the indication), and that he chooses who sits in his chair. Very true, but I also choose who I give my money to. In the end, the haircut was fine and you didn't blow my mind. read more
