Like most of the shops and boutiques on Front Street, this one is long, narrow, and claustrophobic…read more You're going to have a difficult time navigating through this one, and more than most others: here you'll find more kids and strollers per square foot than anywhere else in Leavenworth! Still, it's a fantastic shop to find small toys, gifts and stocking stuffers for the littles. Everything from books and games, puzzles, stuffed animals, blocks and bricks, rubber figurines, finger puppets, fidgets, dice, gag gifts and, yes, true to its name, lots of wooden toys in various forms and functions. Need a rubber band gun, or a prop plane powered by a similar elastic engine? This is your place. As someone who has recently become a father for the first time (and maybe this is the curmudgeon in me talking), but toys that provide hands-on, analog stimulation are far more enriching and engaging that the endless, mindless crap spit out by the algorithms behind YouTube and TikTok. The Wood Shop is the kind of store that specializes in the types of toys that were popular before smartphones became the ubiquitous child distraction devices that they are today. On that point alone, I'm glad it's here, and (seemingly) thriving.

My partner tried the rocky road and I forget the other flavor, but both were amazing. My photo the scoop looks a little flat because I couldn't wait to try some! Prices are a bit high but for chelan, very average so it's a good deal. A lot of ice cream for an order! If you're in Chelan, this place is really great for ice cream

Chelan Toys & Sweets is the second place in Downtown Chelan that serves hard scoop ice cream, with the other being the ice cream parlor located in The Landing. Both of these places are within short walking distance of each other on E Woodin Ave, on opposite sides of the street. The prices at Chelan Toys & Sweets (see photo) are lower than those at The Landing, and they also make floats, flurries, shakes and dirty sodas. While the ice cream at The Landing had more of a gourmet or homemade flavor, the ice cream here was still good enough for our party, especially when it came down to the kids' tastes. Comparing our separate visits to these two establishments, we spent about $30 at The Landing and $20 at Chelan Toys & Sweets for similar orders/quantities of ice cream. Also worth mentioning: the wait lines are much shorter here than at The Landing (probably because tourists see The Landing when they first come into town, and not this place). The staff who served us was very cordial and shared their opinions on the store's most popular dirty soda (when asked), as well as let us sample a few of the cream flavors (they had 24) in advance. Bringing up The Parlor as a comparison one more time, although their ice cream was good, it came at a higher cost combined with longer lines and impersonal, "assembly line" service (with no samples). In contrast, the ice cream counter at Chelan Toys & Sweets had more menu items/options, lower prices, and a personal, "local" (not touristy) atmosphere.

I especially loved their in-house "Dan's" label products. I brought several items home with me, including their BBQ rub, black peppercorns, and of course, coffee! Their hours are incredibly convenient (5:00 AM - 10:00 PM), which makes it easy to pop in anytime. We even visited during a snowstorm -- and yes, they were open! The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to see us. It's like visiting your Granny's Home ;)

What a hidden gem!! Their $6.99 sandwich deal is an awesome value, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a hearty, affordable hike lunch. You can choose from one of their set sandwiches (like the Reuben, Silly Phillies, or Wild Turkey) or build your own from a generous selection of breads, cheeses, condiments, meats, and veggies. And it comes with a complimentary bag of chips! - Reuben - a warm, pressed classic. Generous corned beef, melted Swiss, tangy sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing on grilled bread. Super satisfying and perfect trail fuel - Turkey Cranberry - layers of turkey with cranberry spread, cheese slices, and fresh fixings. Sweet, savory, and delicious The deli counter is right inside on your left when you walk in. Everyone behind the counter was incredibly friendly, genuinely chatting with us about our hike plans and offering samples from the bakery. Our sandwiches were made fresh and hot in minutes! The overall vibe is that of a local neighborhood grocery with staff who truly care. We loved it so much, we came back for round two. Don't miss this spot if you're prepping for a hike -- Dan's does a trail lunch done right!
