We stopped here on a long road trip to grab hot lunch from the deli, gas up and use the restroom. At the deli, the guy serving us barely said anything and everything we added to the order (2 items per person, 4 people) he just scowled. Handed us our food and didn't even say anything when we said thank you. Then, after spending $45 to eat and grab snacks, we went to use the restroom and it was blocked by the janitor guy. There were people inside finishing up and he was waiting for them to come out so he could start cleaning, I had my two girls with me and asked if we could go real quick because we were on a long trip and not stopping anywhere else. He wouldn't let us. We had to go across the parking lot in the freezing cold and wait outside. Everyone here seemed miserable and was rude and made this a bad experience all around, I was not pleased when we left. Would avoid this town altogether if this is any indication of the atmosphere. As a self proclaimed 'local', Safeway remains my go to for all things needed. The pharmacy is the best, they work hard getting my prescription available as soon as possible. The people have become kind of friends, not an enemy seemed in the way while stocking the shelves. read more

For the pharmacy! I forgot all my meds at home. I called my amazing Covington Safeway Pharmacy. They told me it's easy just walk in the Cle Elum Safeway Pharmacy and have them pull up your profile. Did that. The tech was very nice and told the pharmacist Brad how it could be done. My pharmacist called their store on my behalf. Nope Brad says it is against policy so no way he is going to do it for me. But my pharmacist says if it was the other way around she will do for his customers! So hopefully between walks, water and some peanuts it will help keep my 13.4 A1C down u til I go home tomorrow . Brad acted like I was looking for narcotics. Nope just trying to stay out of a coma with Metformin Not trying to ruin my daughter's and my grandsons get away by having to go home a day early! What a monstrosity of a bathroom one of the worst dancing has ever seen in a Safeway store ridiculous since they have so many employees. I'm a cop, but not one of them decide to clean the Mail bathroom the restroom and it was absolutely disgusting. The smell smell like a toddler piss in their bed and it hasn't been washed in over three months. I am very disappointed in this corporation. This should never happen again. Review of Safeway Gas, Cle Elum: The sign on Saturday 28-Jan-2023 said $3.619 per gallon for unleaded regular. So we pulled in. The price for premium was a shocking 68-cents more per gallon than regular. Not sure what that's about, but I certainly felt like the pricing was misleading (yes, by the time I was pumping I could see that, but I'd already pulled in, turned off the engine, etc.) That's an excessive difference. I really like this Safeway! I almost always stop here on road trips for a bathroom break and pick up a snack or kombucha. The bathrooms are the main portion of the store that I'm familiar with and they're always clean and big enough that there's no lines haha. The rest of the store (which is big and modern!) is also really clean and easy to find things. Ironically, I was here late Friday night on my way to Leavenworth and it was a bit of a disaster because there was literally one cashier a huge line and naturally the register froze during my transaction and I held up the entire line! It was so uncomfortable, I felt so awkward and the cashier was super frustrated and on the verge of losing it. The NICEST lady ever ended up buying my one item (a gallon of water) with cash to keep the line moving. If you ever see this, thanks again!!! Even though my last visit was rocky, I still like going here when I pass through Cle Elum and will continue to do so! read more

Being the only grocery store in my town , AND only pharmacy it's okay but NOT . Why this pharmacy can takeover all other pharmacies in tow and not fill prescriptions in a timely manner is beyond me . Even when the highway and this location are super busy it's so great and convenient because there are public Restrooms outside by the Safeway Gas Pumps AND inside to the left of the entrance where the deli and Starbucks are located. So you can use the Restroom, fill your gas tank, get a snack or meal all in this one stop. I think this Safeway is extra nice and fabulous. read more

Safeway stores are pretty consistent making them a frequent stop on the road. This one happens to have gas too and you get a discount if you use your Safeway club card. While Hubby pumped gas, I ducked in for sandwiches. The store was clean, but the employees were really grumpy. That made me sad since most Safeway stores pride themselves on cheery and helpful employees. I grabbed two sandwiches from the deli - tuna salad and turkey with provolone. They were both yucky. The bread was gross and the meat flavorless. Sad again since I count on the Safeway deli to keep me going on the road. They still get two stars for cheap gas with a discount. read more

Safeway fuel station is a joke. It's a s#it show trying to find and get to an open spot. People circling the station waiting for a pump to open. People blocking you in if you finally get a pump. Then the credit card reader only works 1/2 the time. Then... the cones. Cones everywhere blocking pumps that don't work as well as the bathrooms. It's not worth a few pennies in savings to have to deal with the chaos. read more

We had to stop for banana and chocolate for or bacherlotte weekend! Talk about being stared down and everyone looking at us ladies! I don't understand why, but we were kind of loud and from another city! The lady who checked us out said "wow you guys have a lot of energy", I said well you could've asked why or maybe just said you guys are happy! I felt like she could've kept that comment to herself. Overall the pharmacy was bombing with everyone getting their weekly meds! The Safeway is coming which will be great for people in there area who like it! However the my have one other coffee spots close which is perfect to add in! They are going through a remodel right now which is good they are getting a new look! I'm from eastern Washington and I have to say I've been going to and from for about 10+ years now and I'm glad things are happening for this area. This Safeway is a key element for all my trips! I live in Cle Elum. I also live on Maui. Prices on Maui are cheaper. I am disgusted at the price gouging here in Cle Elum. They know they can gouge the locals because they are the only game in town and all the rich people from Kirkland, etc. come to Suncadia on the weekends. You only have the bare minimum of clerks, don't give a RIP about your community. Everyone wishes another grocery store would open up. You are a scourge to our community. Shame on you. read more

I love this Safeway so much! I was there yesterday and I needed to cut up a large chuck roast into chunks and the butcher behind the meat counter did it for me!! And then they came and found me in the store and gave it to me! That's quite amazing service for a very very busy Safeway! I would honestly give zero stars except there are a few nice and efficient employees...I worked for safeway as the pm supervisor of the deli(the summers here were an everyday where I worked in southern California, and in any city really, including Seattle) That being said... Horrible customer service(unless you are a beloved local), slowest cashiers in existence, and almost everything in the store is several dollars more than the grocery stores in Ellensburg. Went to the deli: Five employees behind the counter, two looked at me and didn't say a word, the other three were entirely oblivious that customers were waiting. I have waited more than five minutes(Once waited 10+) just to be acknowledged, this has happened multiple times. I am local. This is the average experience you can expect unless you are a friend of the employee. The checkout lines are ridiculous, there are almost never enough cashiers for the volume of people waiting in line. The cashiers have absolutely(minus a select few) no sense of urgency, many times have i selected a line where there may be three customers with each only a few items, yet other cashiers will process FULL carts faster! (Of course, employees in training exempt) And finally after a decade the store is now getting a remodel.... And surprise surprise: the already more expensive store has raised prices since the remodel has begun. In conclusion: this is not only a horribly managed store but an overly, and unnecessarily, expensive store. I suggest to all locals and travelers to go to Ellensburg(where the cashiers literally stand in front of the kiosk waiting to welcome you, because there are ACTUALLY enough of them) for not only better selection and customer service, but to also save money. This store is in dire need of customer service and management overhaul. read more

You think I may be joking until you talk to other locals and hear that most of us will travel to Ellensburg for better selection. Want rotten fruit? Sure, swing by here. Want old meat? This Safeway will live up to your expectations! I give two stars for the staff. They work hard and are friendly. Not a great store compared to other Safeway locations, but still a good place to make a pit stop and/or stock up on supplies when heading out into the mountains. One of the things I love about stopping by Safeway on a road trip is the deli: big, tasty, reasonably priced sandwiches ($5.50) made to order. I usually go with one of the 'Signature' selections rather than try to make up my mind what assortment of toppings I want, and at least half of those 'Signature' choices include bacon (which always sounds good!). Unfortunately, for some reason, on my most recent visit the deli at this Cle Elum Safeway was OUT OF BACON. How does that even happen, in a grocery store? I even asked the checkout clerk "why don't you run down to Safeway and pick up some more bacon" I don't think she was amused, but she didn't answer the question, either. Oh well, my bacon-less sandwich was adequate :-) This location also has a gas station with it's own restroom building out in the parking lot, as well as some extra porta-potties outside the front doors. I get the feeling I'm not the only one that's really gotta go after some hours on the road! read more

On the way home from Leavenworth our goal was to find a taco truck. We would assume that something will pop up sooner or later. We stopped by this Safeway for a bag of ice and asked them if there was a taco truck in town. The bag boy got really excited, "there are no taco trucks around but there is a Taco del Mar near by. It's REALLY good!" I like Taco del Mar, but not that much. 4 stars for letting my mom and I laugh about this for about 10 minutes. Zipzap Zubidy Bop! read more

A bit old-school, but the club-special stuff is the same, the restrooms are big for a grocery store, and reasonably clean, even if you have to go through the stock room to get to them (at the end of aisle 4, through the double doors, you're welcome LOL), the produce was awesome (I guess a lot of it is actually from local farms), and the cashiers were all super-friendly even though they were COMPLETELY slammed with people buying everything for Labor Day weekend. The guys behind me had it pared down to the bare essentials... a bag of Solo plastic cups, and a BIG bottle of Seagram's 7! We shared a laugh about that, the gal in front of us offered that they left out the required snacks, then the checker offered my son a sticker, and I found myself wondering if folks would have been quite so chatty or friendly in Issaquah given the same crowd. Oh well. If you need groceries or cheap-ish gas in Cle Elum, this is the place. read more

Got a marinated flank steak for dinner tonight. It was the worst steak I've ever had . I have shoes that probably would be more tender than that steak. I don't know why I continue to buy meat there cause I've never had good meat. Back to Owens they have much better me than Safeway read more
