    Harbour Place Marina

I have been a slip holder at Harbor Place Marina for about a decade…read moreIt wasn't the cheapest I could find but it was the closest to my house so the convenience factor offset the cost will never use Harbour place again 1-inaccurate invoicing. On Invoice # 1956WI I was billed for 5 gallons of antifreeze. I didn't authorize any winterization of the water system or head. I performed that myself. Initial thought was maybe the 5 gallons was poured atop the fluid I had already placed. and not being confrontational by nature I paid the invoice. Upon accessing the vessel in the spring of 2024 I found 5 gallons of RV antifreeze sitting in the aft cabin. could these be the 5 gallons I was invoiced for at $21.99 each? which I can get from walmart or amazon for less than $4.00 each. A 500% markup on a fluid never requested seems excessive. also tag placed on trailer by marina staff indicates no head or water system winterization was performed 2-"summerization" Marine personnel tried to upsell me "summarization" services. which included flushing water system of antifreeze , hooking up batteries, and providing and installing drain plug. My response was I can run faucets myself to flush the water system and other items were already included when placing the vessel into the slip by Harbour Place. Why would I pay for those items again? 3-inoperative tilt motor. marina personnel informed me that the tilt motor wasn't functioning and the outdrive was stuck in down position. I agree. the vessel is older and the Motor had been getting weaker, so It finally totally failing wasn't a surprise. What WAS a surprise is that I was informed of this issue after the boat was moved several times ( from lift to storage, can't say if it was moved to wrap it, and then from storage location to shop.) On its own trailer. Finally, I was informed that as a result of the failed tilt motor I would either have to get the motor replaced ( quoted at over $800 dollars) or pay additional fees to have the boat "carefully" moved from the shop to the lift point to avoid dragging/damaging the skag. Were all the other moves before now not careful? Boat was moved at least twice before ( lift to storage and storage to shop) no mention was ever made of the drive stuck tilt down. Finally was told there was an issue and it would be additional charges? 4-ship to shore cable Ever since we have had a vessel that uses a ship to shore cable, I have left that cable plugged in so batteries have the highest charge when marina personnel need to start the boat to navigate from the slip to the hoist point. Boat has a trickle charger that maintains Battery charge when supplied with shore power. Every previous season Harbor Place staff unplug the cable at both ends and throw the cable onto the vessels deck behind the cockpit. Not stowed below. just thrown on deck. OK, fine with me. This season when I first accessed the vessel the Ship to shore cable was no where to be found. It was not on the vessel's deck nor below . unsure if cable was left at dock and stolen by a third party, or if it was misplaced by staff, or something else, we will never know. Whatever the cause, the result is I now have to buy a new ship to shore cable. In addition, no longer offering onsite trailer storage to slip holder over the summer was an issue Haul out and put in HAD ALWAYS been performed by Harbor Place at no additional charge. I had presumed that put in and haul out were included with the slip rental. (which is why I figured there were less expensive slip rentals in the area) In all the years I had been at Harbor Place I was never invoiced or charged for put in or haul out. Call began cordially but when staff learned I had made other arrangements for wrapping and winter storage, tone seemed to change and I was informed haul out wasn't included in slip rental and I would have to pay for the service. When I questioned why those services had always been performed before at no additional charge previously and I was under the impression that those services were included in the slip rental I was told to "read the contract" I did. Yes the contact does not explicitly state haul out and put in are included with slip rental. But it also doesn't explicitly exclude those services either . Since Harbor Place performed those services at no additional charge since we became slip holders at the Marina, in my opinion, this established a standard of care and level of anticipated services a reasonable person would come to expect based on past history. I'm not a lawyer, only a dumb structural engineer licensed in 13 States, so I can't say if the contract language is airtight on this issue, but it is a moot point as we have made other arrangements going forward

The boat would go into a limp mode. Boat only had 14 hours on it when I brought it to the dealership for repair the first time and it wasn't repaired. Brought it in a second time and the technician spent 29 hours @ $200. per hour on it and couldn't find the issue. Then blamed the issue on a ground strike so they decided it is an insurance claim. Technician took our parts and reinstalled the same parts etc. But due to bad documentation by the technician the insurance company wouldn't cover the repair. They even tried to charge me for storage while I was waiting for the boat repair to be resolved. I ended up spending an $ 6,000.00 to be able to get my boat back. And that is after talking to the owner, Brad. I got my boat back only to see that the bathroom door is broken. I will never purchase another boat from Smith Boys. Smith Boys only cares about making money. The service is terrible and the service lady, Morgan is rude and condescending and cares more about her dog than serving customers I wouldn't take a boat from them if they were giving it to me. Next email is to the BBB. Extremely Disappointed Horrible Experience

I called to schedule a drop off to have an issue diagnosed. This will run you $179 unless it takes longer than an hour. I was greeted by Jacob who was pleasant and informative. He guided me through the intake process including sending pictures and keeping me informed as to what the issue was. There were two options a temporary fix that may last a while but may not.I decided to go with the more expensive fix, as I have my family on the boat and don't want to take any chances. I needed a new gimbal bearing and new bellows ($2300).Jacob was there every step of the way.I had one issue and Jacob made sure to resolve it. They use an online system to keep you informed and also to bill you. I haven't put my boat in the water yet but will update when I do.Would recommend. Location is clean and well kept.

The trailer I got quotes from two local dealers for the exact same trailer. Dealer one was $100 more and they didn't include any setup. Basically I would pick up the trailer and it was my problem figuring out how to adjust the bunks, winch post etc to my boat as well as get my boat off my old trailer and onto the new one. Bill's however included the trailer setup and transferring the boat over in the price, and they were still cheaper. I dropped the boat/trailer off the night before and got a call the next day that it was ready for pickup. My old trailer was really rough but they still gave a little in trade and said they could use it for moving boats around the yard.

I will give a good review but I am totally upset by the miscues of this company. I have used them…read moretwice and each time the mechanical service is great. They have fixed my issues every time. The kicker is the customer service. I stored my boat with them and paid a premium to store it. I have them drop the boat in the water the next season and here is my gripe. They drop it off with almost zero gas. I was lucky to make it to the water station to fill it up. I was absolutely shocked after, again, paying top storage dollar to only receive a boat in the water with zero gas. I drove it on a prayer to get gas. That is not the first. Here is my second time with Bill's and the same exact issue but this time with my jet ski. Again, top dollar to winterize my jet ski. I dropped it off to be winterized. I AM PAYING for experts to take care of my jet ski. I get it back and doesn't start. In fact the issue was with gas. I am not an expert that's why I paid the experts. I didn't fill the tank enough and it led to condensation in my tank. My mistake was that I didn't fill it up enough. So if that's the case and I am paying an expert to winterize it why wouldn't they fill the tank to prevent me from having issues. I will respond to the age old question, my bill would have been more. I ask any boater who would not pay the additional money to fill the tank to prevent issues in the future. Again if you are still reading my post thank you. I am not complaining about the actual work just flabbergasted by the actual lack of common sense their mechanics or management have. My conversation in the fall with them should have been about the gas. They should have called and informed me that they would need to fill my tank and charge me for it. My response would have been why. They should have responded it will prevent future issues. My response. FILL IT UP. 1 star for the lack of professionalism from their experts.
