You can say when if you want to. And if you don't want to then DSW... Don't Say When. This is located just south of Katy Freeway, aka Interstate 10, in the heart of west Houston in Texas. Much smaller than DFW and with less people living in it. It's a chain that seems to be everywhere, and one which offers better shoe prices, and has the most discounts of the shoe discount stores I've used, and often good selections too. I've been finding less good shoe prices lately, but I still appreciate them being here and this place is still a lot better than some of the more expensive stories. First, I HATE HATE HATE the layout of this store. The whole experience of DSW is it's a warehouse..not some place that is trying to be something it's not. It's definitely more difficult to find things because they are not together as they were before but I deal with it because it's the closest one. Second, a shoe store with 4 self checkouts and one person (or so it seems) working the register, not a good idea. With all the discounts and coupons and things..what could go wrong? I waited for what felt like forever while my self checkout register is "yelling" at me that a customer service person is on the way. I chose self checkout only because I felt like I was forced into it due to the long line of the one guy working register but all those people were smart and stayed with a person to check them out! Meanwhile my self checkout is yelling at me repeatedly, the guy never stops for a second to assist, never calls for an additional cashier, and finally some girl with nails she couldn't use on the touchscreen comes over and unsuccessfully assists and calls over someone else..so two other people in store ignoring line/unable to assist/never called by the guy working a line that is now 10 people deep. Additionally, they have a TON of clearance shoes, but with the crappy redesign, only about a third of them are visible at a time because the rest are indiscriminately stacked above behind pull down screens that you can see behind but can't access so they will NEVER sell all the clearance shoes and you are only seeing a few at a time. I truly hate this store and yesterday was just the best of all conditions in clear view..looks like I'll be driving further for a real dsw experience. Upon arrival, I called to take advantage of the curbside offering. *Please see photo below* The store associate said "Uhh nah, we don't do all that". I'm sorry, what? I asked her if she was sure, because it was advertised on the sign that I was currently sitting in front of at that very moment. Mind you, they also take up 4 parking spots for a curbside service they "don't offer". The associate sounded incredible irritated that I would even ask, and then proceeded to just hang up on me. That's a good way to handle a question. I called back, and was placed on hold. Likely indefinitely, but I hung up after 5 minutes. Seems silly to say you offer something, when you don't. Or to just lie, for convenience. My recommendation would be that if you have to go here for shoes, don't and order online. I can assure you, the staff doesn't care if you shop there or not. read more

DSW is my go-to store for designer shoes at great prices. The parking lot is spacious, no need to fight for parking like the near-Galleria locations. The employees are usually very nice and helpful. The lines can get long, especially when there's a free gift, but they do move quickly. The clearance section has lots of styles to choose from, and there's always an additional % off depending on the color of the tag. I head there as soon as I walk in the store. I usually never leave a business reviews but my experience here was very disappointing. I found a pair of heels i wanted to buy and unfortunately the only pair they had left in my size looked like one of the heels had been worn out around the ankle, the strap holes were stretched out etc. I was told by a lady working the floor i could have them order me a pair upfront, so i did just that, explained the situation and wanting a new pair sent to me because the one in store was pretty used etc. (i mean who wants to purchase shoes if they don't look brand new) The girl working the front ordered them for me, so i thought, i paid and left. I just got the order and to my surprise it was the SAME EXACT PAIR i told them i did not want from in the store, same stretched out strap, i remembered how it was packed and all. I called in and explained to whoever answered, her explanation was that if they cannot find a size in any other stores they send what they have and i could return them. So i asked, "so no body else around here had them?" She said no. Did not ask my name, the order number, nothing. I got online after the call and see several stores in Houston have them in my size and we're available for pick up the same day. If i would have known that i could have did that all in the same day i initially ordered them. Instead i waited a week for the worn in shoes, had to return them, and go to another store to purchase again! To top it off they just threw the box in a FedEx bag and shipped it off. This is exactly how the shoes looked when i took them to the counter and how i found them that day, it's a shame at the lack of integrity this store has. Got a mailer with a discount for this new concept store, so I decided to try it out. I found my running shoes just fine. But when it came time to look for navy flats for work, forget about it. The selection of "work"/office-appropriate shoes seemed more limited than before, and despite what they say, there were no more sizes than before (I wear a 5.) This new concept may work for some, but I'll stick with your Westheimer and Voss location, which is equidistant to me anyway. read more

When I went to check out the associate told the cashier to use the coupon under the counter and give me an additional 30%. The cashier was rude and refused to honor the additional discount she was told to apply to my purchase. I will be returning the 3 pair of shoes I purchased. This DSW is probably half the square footage (complete guesstimate) of the one on Westheimer (near REI) or the one in the Galleria area. For my friend, this was a good thing because she had a specific vision and didn't want to try 300 pairs on or spend all day touring the entire store to find them. Her fiance came with us, and he really has no patience for disorganization or mulling through a lot for one pair of shoes. So, yes, it's tinier. Yes, there is probably less selection. If you or your +1 is easily overwhelmed, this is probably the better DSW to go to. read more

I just want to share my very positive experience at this location. This past Saturday I was looking for shoes for my super spoiled 6 year old who has her own ideas about fashion and was in a extremely negative mood which makes me crazy. I became scattered and took off my expensive designer glasses and forgot them! I was so upset! I didn't realize I forgot them until Sunday afternoon so I called and a young man by the name of Devion (sp?) took my call and # and promised he would call me if he found them. I had a really awkward experience at DSW yesterday. I went in with a friend to do some pre-birthday shopping and found a very special pair of shoes in the clearance section. When I picked up the box, I noticed that the box was not the same as the shoe I had. I checked around to see if it was maybe somewhere close by - no luck. Knowing i wanted them, I took them to the checkout stand and explained the situation and asked how much they were. It took a while for them to come back with an answer they would give me the shoes for the same price on the box, but with only a 30% discount, not 40%. Now, I don't know why, but that just hit me wrong. If it's up to your discretion then give the customer what's on the box. Especially since you couldn't find the shoe price anywhere else in the store or online. Nonetheless, my spirits a little dampened, I said, okay and told the salesperson that "I think your manager made a bad call - a more service orientated approach would have been to give me the price on the box". True, it was only 10%, but it was the principle of the matter. Nonetheless, the sales clerk got an attitude to the point I thought maybe she's related to the manager...I couldn't figure it out. She kinda mumbled her way through her next few sentences and snootily asked, well do you still want them. I said, "yes..never said I didn't want them, only that I think your manager made a bad call". She then gets on her mic and CALLS the manager to the front counter and says, I'll let you say that to her. Really - who does this. I felt like two kids who were getting ready to fight when one said she was going to get her big sister to beat me up. Good Lord. The manager comes over, I said the exact same thing, that if it was up to her discretion why she wouldn't just give me the price and discount on the box. The manager kind of made it right saying that she didn't know there was a box and no one told her that. She resolved it by giving me the extra discount and she applied my birthday coupon. So all in all, it was resolved, but the attitude/air around the whole situation just put a bad taste in my mouth. Not my best DSW experience. This experience won't stop me from shopping there and outside of the people I dealt with the other salesperson at the counter was really friendly. I'm crossing my fingers that the next time I return I will have a stellar experience and can update my review. read more

Oh little store, how I love you. No worries that you aren't big like your siblings, you still offer the best selection in the 024. This DSW is significantly smaller than the others. However it offers a better selection in ladies shoes. The place itself is decorated nicely with wood and carpeted floors, comfy round seating arrangements, neater rows that are better organized on "real" shelves, plenty of mirrors and a small seating area with at t.v. for the bored hubby or bf. It feels like a large boutique compared to the warehouse feeling to the other stores. I will admit the men's selection leaves a lot to be desired, but we really don't care about that. They have a small area in the back dedicated to the sale items. Found a great Furla handbag hidden on the back of a rack, I snatched that puppy up and strutted around congratulating myself on such a great find until my sister ran up with the same bag. *sigh* The employees are helpful and will actually help you look for an item, unlike their other stores where they will vaguely point anywhere if you ask them for help. Yes this store is tiny but the shoe selection is geared towards the styles I like. Plus, it's by my favorite pizza place. read more

Don't bother coming here if you see something online. I showed up looking for a specific boot they said they had in stock in my size but the manager refused to go into the back to look for it. Claiming there were too many boxes to go through. I walked around and found another boot in a different color and asked for my size in that one instead. She walked around the store looking at the different boxes and again refused to go into the back to find my size even though she confirmed they had it in stock in the back. A waste of time. Poor customer service. And complete laziness. There were a group of employees just standing around in the middle of an aisle chatting rather than truly helping customers. read more

It's a DSW and I like shoes. Pretty much anyone who likes shoes likes DSW. It's not just the selection that stands out at a DSW, but the quality of their selection. You can get some cheap "payless" type shoes or a pair of designer shoes. It's pretty much up to you. So, why am I subtracting stars? I really liked this particular DSW when it first opened. It was different from the others. It was still a warehouse with a huge selection, but the layout with the small room in the back for sale items gave it a different feel. I didn't feel as if I was shopping at a superstore that specializes in shoes. I actually felt somewhat relaxed coming to this store. Well, with the rearrangement of shelving and the removal of the sale item room, the reminder that I'm basically at a Sams Club of shoes is back. With this is somehow an added feeling of shopping at a warehouse store, the rush, the feeling that I need to hurry up and get what I want and then get out. I'll still shop there, but I won't feel as relaxed in this one anymore. I'll be back to feeling like coming here is a chore I just have to get through. read more

I used to shop at this store for YEARS. In the last few months they've added a kid section (to an already small store). I've been in 3-4 times in the last couple of months and haven't bought a thing. Something happened and this store has a bunch of plain grandma shoes now. There was a shoe I wanted in plaid. It also came in black and white. The store had black and white but NO plaid. Typical for them to have the plain colors and not cute ones like before. It's a shame because this is the closest DSW to my house, but I'm done shopping here. I can't take the constant disappointment of ugly shoes and minimal sizes on any that I'm even remotely be interested in. read more

The customer service team here is really professional, friendly, and go above and beyond as far as helping out customers. I had placed an order online and had it shipped to this store. When I went to go pick it up, the team couldn't find it. They were all super sweet and apologetic about it and they looked everywhere's until finally Sylvia told me that she would give me a call in the morning as soon as she got in so she could see where it was. Turns out that it never arrived at the store. Pretty frustrating to find out the day before Christmas Eve. Luckily for me, Sylvia is awesome at her job. She offered to find it for me at other DSW locations--which was already way more than what customer service over the phone was willing to do. Not only did she find the EXACT pair I had originally ordered, she had it ready for me for pickup less than 24 hours later AND was able to get it for even cheaper. I originally paid $40 for the shoes and applied a $20 discount reward off my total (which included other shoes). Not only did she honor that promotion, but her team also reminded me I had $10 of rewards I could also apply which brought my total to $10. Can't say enough nice things about this location and their employees. read more

I always go straight back to the sale section which is always more organized compared to the other rows of shoes. There's always something to find for us shoe-aholics who also love a good deal. They have a chart that does the math for you according to the color of the % discount - price tag, which is super convenient and awesome... I'd be so lost without that chart. This is a nice store, well-kept, unlike some of the others where shoe boxes litter the aisles, merchandise is scattered everywhere. There is a little of everything, from sandals to flat shoes, heels, athletic shoes. There is, also, a small selection of socks -- very small. I was shoppping in the DSW Memorial store about 2 weeks ago and while I was trying on a pair of shoes I notice a young man standing in front of me looking at some shoes. It caught me as odd because he was there by himself without the accompany of a women. Then I noticed what he was doing...he had an erection and was trying to get my attention. I kept my eyes down while I was taking off the shoes and then proceeded to look up to find an employee. The more I refused to look directly at him the more he tried to show me his erection by getting closer and giving me a front on view. Once I was able to get the attention of a 'male' employee and tell him what the young man was doing the employee walked over to the guy and said can I help you?...ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I looked at the employee and was humiliated that he either didn't believe me or to afraid to say anything. Maybe this happens all the time in shoe stores but this has never happened to me. I proceeded to embarrass the young man and told him to talk his little penis outside!!! I proceeded to buy over $100 dollars in shoes but couldn't even get an employee to remove a pervert!!! read more
