DTLA Bikes is a large bike shop that offer a wide variety of bikes-big 'n small, apparels, bike parts, and gears. Also, they provide bike service if you get a flat tire or your bike is acting weird they will fix it. At a price of course. I am trading-in my car for a bike just because the gas price is milking me dry! Haha! Anyways, the real reason I want one is to be nature eco-friendly to commute to work. It's time for a new version of my 1990s Litespeed. I'm coordinating with Manuel to add a second chainring at the cranks, and incorporate a Left-side shifter. In general I also need a tune-up. Probably new cables and cable housings. I need a new set of wheels laced up. I keep popping spokes randomly, and this set was built in 2017 at another shop. I'm probably going to ask for Stan's No Tubes Tire Sealant as well as puncture liners for the tires. I won't say what, because it was something unique to my titanium frame, but they fixed that without needing to be told. And I love them for it. DTLA is an interesting scene and I recommend bicycling downtown it's super fun. Unfortunately some dirtbag apparently slashed my tire. Fortunately, there is this huge bike store on Broadway. They installed a new inner tube in less than 15 minutes(thanks Manuel)for only $20. I added $5 tip for great service then I was on my way exploring Little Tokyo and the Arts district. I talked to the owner, Rodney, and he is a really cool guy and his store is hands down the best in downtown LA. The selection of bicycles, electric bikes and accessories is huge. read more

I brought my Pinarello bike with the Ekar groupset to this shop for basic maintenance, including front brake adjustments (squeaking issue) and rear gear shifter adjustments. Despite charging me $45, the front brakes are still squeaking, and the rear shifter was not adjusted correctly at all. When I mentioned the issue, they said, "If it's a new bike, it's defective, go to the seller." This is highly unprofessional, especially considering the high-quality bike and groupset. If you're expecting thorough and competent service, I would look elsewhere. They seem more interested in shifting blame than fixing problems. At the end, when I asked receipt, he said "labor, labor, no receipt" so I didn't even get one for refund. read more

Had a great experience buying a bike today. The store is big, bikes are well presented, most of them are name brands, and there is a small team of friendly people working in the back. Rodney was really nice, knowledgeable, and patient with me. Listening to his advice and his experiences, you can tell he's extremely passionate about bikes and has been in the cycling business for a very long time. I was able to test ride two sizes of a bike today in DTLA Bike's indoor track. I originally thought I was a large as most of my bikes are a large, but he told me that I should probably go with a medium with this particular bike. He was right. I needed a few hours to think about my purchase before committing, and Rodney was never pushy, and he was very patient. That made the experience much easier and also more memorable. I knew I was going to buy the bike from somewhere, and the great customer service from DTLA Bikes made me buy it from them. This is a legit store you can trust. read more

Somehow someway, there's always a ten minute wait at the register. Every cashier and every customer in front of me just talk talk talk but never keep the line moving. That being said as a warning (I guess you can never pay for a repair and go) the repairs they do are great out the door unlike other places where you gotta keep going back for the same repair, sometimes right out the door. There's a decent selection of seats, lights, handlebars. Haven't been here forever. I've gotten all of my apehangers here! read more

Guy in front is a complete asshole , 2 things happened while I was here guy refused to help me out , I needed a bolt , guy didn't even see the bolt and said "naw don't got it " . Then 4 kids came in who needed a new inner tube , that same guy gave them the inner tube and refused to spend 5 min of his time to change it. His reasoning for all this was " we are about to close we don't do any more service " store closes at 6:30 , we came in at 6:12. I advice to travel 2 min up to el maestro. Never coming here again. I got to experience civic la's event where they close of main streets of downtown LA for the public to bike ride across town. It was such a magical positive day, and DTLA bikes was great quick hospitality, kind with finding me the right size bike, and making sure I felt safe by adjusting my seat and height, and educating me on brakes. My bike tagged a flat less than a block from DTLA Bikes to say I was pissed and lucky, all in one sentence is an understatement. Bike shops rely heavily on word of mouth and servicing the community. I remembered that as I strolled in to have my bike fixed. The guys were nice and were busy servicing customers. Unfortunately I had another flat that day and went back to the store to have my tire fixed again - same great attitude, no extra charge and some advice for changing out my tire to protect the tubes. read more

My brother and I decided to pull the trigger and purchase two electric trail bikes. I moved out to California temporarily from Hawaii, so I'm sharing my brother's one car. We work out every weekend by hiking Runyon Canyon, and have a mini gym set up at his house, but we wanted to expand our athletic training, while at the same time using the bikes as a way of commuting, especially for him. His work is only 3 1/2 mi away , so what better way for him to get extra exercise than commute?! After extensive research, we decided we wanted to purchase e-bikes that could be serviced locally. The best one that worked for us were the Magnum Mi6 & Peak e-bikes as they are mountain/trail bikes but can be used as commuters. In LA, there are three electric bike shops that will service them and sell them as well. (PS: at the time of this review, being in the provided pandemic, everybody has the same idea and it's very hard to get a hold of ebikes! Online many are sold out or back ordered, and if you find them physically at a store, pull the trigger and buy them!) The first place we went to, the staff was very nice and we test rode a Magnum and an Aventon. The salesperson was very eager, but unfortunately misidentified the Magnum as a Peak when it was actually the Magnum Metro, which is a commuter and has a thinner tire and different specs than the Peak. He said both bikes would work as mountain bikes. Wrong! The tires and frames are not made for trails, with no suspension and thin tires. Sure, if you're going on a paved mountain trail the whole time it will work, but if you are doing any off-roading, you need bigger tires and you need some shock absorber. When we came home we looked up the bikes that we rode, and figured out they had misidentified the one. If they didn't know their bikes, we didn't have much confidence in them fixing them either! Although DTLA was much further for us to drive to, their website claimed they had 2 Mi6's & 1 Peak in stock. Rare to have in stock due to the pandemic, so we immediately went down to their store. Caveat, there is no parking! That's the bummer thing about downtown LA. We found a parking lot around the corner for $10. That was the most expensive 20 minutes of parking we've ever paid for LOL DTLA had a huge selection of electric bikes. They were all very friendly . We dealt with Enrique for our first encounter. He helped us with pricing, choosing the bikes, etc. We did have to refer to the website to show that they really did have those bikes in stock as they didn't know they did, but once that was established, my brother and I decided just to purchase the bikes right then and there to take advantage of the deals Enrique offered us. We had done the test rides on electric bikes already. We inspected the bikes we wanted, and Enrique put them in the back for us. We went to go get cash in order to avoid paying tax. It was late in the day so we couldn't get the cash but they allowed us to come back over the weekend and pay for the bikes with a deposit on them. We asked for delivery to the house as my brother's car is tiny and wouldn't fit one bike much less two LOL Rodney, the store owner, delivered them on Monday evening to us. Both bikes! He was so nice and friendly to deal with. He showed us how to work the bikes, & gave us tips and advice. Both Rodney and Enrique told us we get one free tune-up with the purchase of the bikes. After riding the bikes for a month, we will bring them in to have them adjust the brakes and everything else as the cables tend to stretch and the chain tends to skip during gear changes. That's normal with any bike, electric or not. Although the store is far for us, we highly recommend purchasing your bike from them. They have excellent customer service. They are friendly, professional, and have a large selection of ebikes, not just the most expensive e-bikes like some of the other stores. E-bikes are an investment and we really wanted the bikes to be dual purpose, and it was super important, actually it was the main point, that we would be able to service our bikes in town. Don't buy online unless one of the shops here in town can do the repair work! DTLA is that shop. Lack of parking is a bummer, but they make up for it in so many other ways that it is worth your time and visit to them! read more

Specialized Tarmac SL6 I strongly recommend DTLA bikes for anyone wanting a friendly, honest and educated experience. I originally went to another shop in Pasadena where they were willing and ready to sell me an expensive bike in the wrong size. Rodney at DTLA bikes gave me a full service experience and sold me a bike that was properly fitted to suit my size and endurance goals. DTLA bikes does not rip off customers because of demand. They are fairly priced by the manufacturer and if you want more for your money they have a private label brand of bikes they produce called DTLA (go figure). Not only was the experience great, they also set me up with a loan with 0% Interest for a full year. With that I was able to upgrade features and build a dream machine. Thank you guys! I then said just to call me back once it was done. Strongly discourage anyone from coming here for repairs. Came here for a simple fix to my gears and paid $35...only to have the "repair" cause more issues with my bike for months. Within a day of leaving the shop, I started having a completely new/separate issue that was clearly caused by the repair and I took it back in. The repair guy gave me major attitude about fixing it and wanted to charge me a second time for an issue that was clearly caused by their work. The bike worked OK for a few days and then for months I kept having the same issue intermittently (gears not switching properly, chain falling off, etc). Took it in to another shop last week that charged less than half the price and fixed the gears for Me. Even then it still wasn't 100% so I took it in for a second look. Turns out they discovered that a previous repair job (i.e. DTLA bikes, the only other shop I've ever taken it to) had loosened the screws that secure the chain to the bike and caused these issues to persist for months. Without even asking them to waive the repair fee, they fixed the it for free since I'd been in the week before (standard courtesy for the industry) and advised me to not take it back to where the issue originated. read more

Went in to ask how much it'd be to fill my scooter tire w/ air and the employee said he would fill it in the back for $5 or I could do it for free up front if I do it by myself. Then I try to fill it myself and it doesn't work. Guy purposely knew I needed the extension to fill my tire and he knew I wouldn't be able to do it myself. I asked to borrow the extension & he said $5. So bottom line he playing games w/ me instead of just giving good customer service. I bought a solid tire couple months ago as my back tire was bad & was $125 and I told a different guy then I'd be back to buy the front tire after I wear down the front tire which would probably be next 1-2 months, but because the employee wants to fck w/ me instead of just letting me use the extension to do it myself or at least charge me a fair $1-$3 price to do it, then the shop loses my future business of $125 guaranteed in next 1-2 months & any future business. I bought my own air pump on Amazon for $15 that arrives tomorrow. Poor business practice & short sighted read more
