We recently dined here before the Mission Inn Festival of Lights. During the festival, you can't enter the lobby of the Mission Inn after 5pm unless you are a hotel guest or have a dinner reservation at one of the restaurants. We were seated promptly at 5pm when they opened. The restaurant has an upscale feel and interesting architecture and decor. Service is very formal, and they even place your napkin on your lap for you after being seated. A server will come around periodically with a warm basket of rolls and place one on your appetizer plate if you like. This was the first time I have ever seen butter in a Tootsie Roll type wrapper. We had intended to have some appetizers and then order our entrees, but our server suggested ordering everything up front because they get very busy and it could be a long wait if we order parts of the meal separately. This was great advice because the restaurant did fill up quickly, and it took about 25 minutes for our appetizers to arrive, and an additional 25 minutes for the entrees. No complaints as we were enjoying the evening, but ordering everything at once is a good idea. We started out with the crab cake ($26). It is a single 2 oz cake that lays on a pomegranate gastrique with a mustard sauce around it, and is topped with a few greens and a crispy artichoke. The crab cake had good flavor and we enjoyed the sauces. The crispy artichoke on top was a nice addition. There were several salads enjoyed including an Inn Keeper Salad ($20), a Burrata Tomato Salad ($20), and a Caesar Salad ($19). A cup of French Onion Soup ($15) was also enjoyed. For my entrée, I had the 16 oz Prime Rib Eye steak ($66). It was cooked a perfect medium rare, and had a nice light char on top. The flavor was excellent. All of the entrees had a very tasty little piped mixture of Boursin cheese and goat cheese with a baked tomato on top. This was great on its own and I also put it on several bites of my steak. I had a glass of Martin Ray Synthesis cabernet ($18) which paired excellent with the rib eye. Everybody else had the Scottish Salmon ($43) and enjoyed it. We also shared three veggie side dishes. The asparagus ($10) were nice and crisp. The sautéed green beans prepared Amandine style ($10) were also crisp and very flavorful. My favorite was the garlic confit mashed potatoes ($10) which had a great garlic flavor. Our main server Dean and his assistant Micheal provided great service. The restaurant was full, so things did go a little slower than I might have expected otherwise, and our dinner ended up lasting almost two hours. For some reason, the prices on the bill at the end of the night did not match the menu. Fortunately it was in our favor as the salads and sides were all charged at less than the menu price. You might want to take a picture of the menu when ordering and make sure the bill matches, especially if it is not in your favor. I saw another review mention their table received two menus with different prices. One was the menu I had, and the other had the prices that were on my receipt. Final rating 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

The last time we had dined here was Christmas Day of 2012, so Diane and I revived the tradition on Christmas Day of 2025. I am pleased to report that the quality of food has remained high; service was generally good other than having to ask twice for an Iced Tea refill; and the location and elegant ambiance of this restaurant within the historic Mission Inn is of course still a plus. But because the hotel largely adheres to its original structure, no elevator exists to avoid three steps leading into the restaurant, which is tough on seniors and others utilizing assistive mobility devices like walkers or canes. Holiday decorations inside the Mission Inn, including numerous brightly lit and ornament-festooned trees and a large gingerbread house, were omnipresent, and the hotel's exterior offered eye-popping views of glowing exhibits featured in the annual Festival of Lights. The complimentary Bread Course featured excellent-tasting bread and quite memorable La Conviette AOP French Butter. Besides salmon, I would have preferred more common seafood choices on the menu like seabass instead of swordfish. But from what was available I selected an 8 oz. fillet of Scottish Salmon, which was flakey and very good. My entree was preceded by a good 2 oz. Crab Cake served with Mustard Sauce, excellent crock of dark French Onion Soup, and okay but bland olive-centric Inn Keeper's Salad. And Diane liked her Lobster Bisque and 12 oz. Warm Water Lobster Tail very much. For sides Sauteed Green Beans prepared Amandine Style were very tasty, and my large Baked Potato with butter and chives was nicely cooked, but Diane's was charred. Feeling quite full, and not enticed by available choices, we passed on dessert.

We celebrated our anniversary here. It's been on our list for over 2 years now, and we finally made the trip during the winter lights festival. Beautiful on the outside of the Inn, all the way through the restaurant. The busy crowds in the lobby were a little overwhelming, but expected for the time of the year. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation (5 pm, when they opened) so there was a 15-minute or so delay to get us seated. The table was set nicely and clean near a window. The waitress was nice and attentive. Food was good, but I wasn't blown away by the taste for the price. I did make the mistake of ordering my rib-eye medium rare, as it in fact came out medium rare-rare side. But it was filling and flavorful. My wife had the New York cooked medium, which she enjoyed, and it looked great! Sides were big and flavorful, and desserts were actually bigger than expected. Glad we were able to check this off the list, but afraid we probably wouldn't return. ** Note: There are no restrooms in Duane's; you'll have to use the Inn's restrooms, which are down the hall, and on this day, there was a line for the men's and the ladies' room. Both had a bad smell while waiting in line.

We had an 8:30 reservation but as they were behind bookings we were seated at 9pm on a Friday night. I was starving at that point. The service was great but they didn't have a good variety of wines by the glass. My steak was salty so but still ate it as didn't want to wait longer to bring it back. I've been to many steak spots and don't feel this place lives up to the diamond rating. I think it's popular as it's the holidays with the Festival of Lights with the ambiance but I wouldn't come back for the food as wasn't impressed along with the prices

We had a good evening at Duane's. We were excited to finally try this place after hearing it was a great steakhouse. The place is a large historic dining room with some great paintings and decor. SERVICE: We were seated very quickly at our reservation time. Our only issue was that it seemed a bit disorganized as we had three different servers asking us the same questions, so everytime my wife and I started having a conversation, we had to stop and answer the same questions over and over (did we want bread, what drinks we wanted to order, etc.) might have just just been an off night. FOOD: This was outstanding. Our steaks were fabulous! Seasoned and cooked exactly as we ordered. Their sides were all great. And of course, their cocktails and wine complimented the food perfectly. (Filet and Ribeye) Other than the slight service issue, we had a nice evening. I would recommend the place for a date night. But - some of their tables are big and the seating is pretty far apart, so if you plan of having a lot of conversation, ask to sit next to each other ;)

I'm a sucker for a good steakhouse. Duane's never disappoints. Service is top notch. Food is delicious. Nice, classic steakhouse feel. Went last night during the Festival of Lights so we got to enjoy a good dinner then walk out to see the lights. Our servers, Mario and Melissa, were so nice! Took such good care of us. Side note: If you do by plan on going during the Festival of Lights, just make sure to give yourself time to deal with the traffic. Enjoy!

Duane's is always a pleasure. It's a classic style steakhouse, expect to wait, but always receive good service. The ambiance is very classic, nice place to take pictures. The food is always amazing. I've eaten here many times, I highly recommend the escargot or the french onion soup as appetizers. We always order steaks -- either the filet mignon, or new yorks, or the ribeyes, they're all amazing. As for sides, the baby carrots were delish, the mushrooms are amazing, and so are the baked potatoes!! They offer amazing desserts; we loved the creme brûlée, the bread pudding, and the tiramisu. Whether you come for the festival of lights or on a weekend night, Duane's is a nice spot to eat at

This is our Christmas season tradition. The lights give such a magical ambiance. The service is stellar. Kind staff. Great recommendations. We love the wagu. If you like a rich fatty cut this is very decadent. Pairs amazing with a red wine.

We made reservations last week for our 44th wedding anniversary. My wife called and was told the Prix Fixe menu was $59 or $69 w/glass of wine, and the time for that menu was from 5-6:30 pm, this was the same information as the website. Once at the Duane's however, the actual menu stated the time was from 5-6 pm. This was concerning because our reservation was for 6:15. And the prices on the menu stated $79 to $89 w/glass a wine. Also noting there is an additional charge of $10 for the filet, which was omitted from the website. We then had to have the manager called over and pointed out the discrepancies. In the end the manager did honor the original pice and time. I ordered my filet medium well and it was exceptional. The food was great, and the service was good. The 4 star rating is for the misinformation on their own website and the embarrassment of having the manager respond to our table. As a side note, I'm not sure why we were asked if we were celebrating anything special, because we heard nothing else about our anniversary.

Im so disappointed! We come here at least twice @ year for celebrations of birthdays or Christmas, however, the las couple of times this place has been a disheartening! I had to return the French onion soup that was totally cold! The crab cakes lacked flavor and freshness! I asked for a medium asked for a medium well steak and got a rare steak! The bred pudding was dry and felt old! I expect so much more from Duane's! It is such a gorgeous place but the food has been a disappointment. The servers were very good but the kitchen was totally out to lunch!

Came here while staying at the hotel . We started with an excellent red wine as well as Duane's Old Fashioned accompanied with fresh baked warm bread and butter. We started with the crab cake - perfectly crispy exterior , I only wish there was more sauce ! We also tried the lobster bisque which was good but I recommend eating immediately, we let ours get a little too cool and didn't enjoy it as much . For dinner we went with peppercorn steak and the organic chicken . Both were great ! I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes that came with the steak as they were a little sweet. The risotto with the chicken was so creamy and absolutely delicious ! We unfortunately were too full for dessert ! Service was very friendly and quick ! We enjoyed the paintings in the restaurant but would have loved to hear some piano or light music in the background to go with the ambiance !

The classic hamburger. The lunch menu doesn't offer steak.
    Trish B.

The hamburger was what I could have bought at a local restaurant that would have had more flavor and had fries instead of potato chips. I could have made this at home and enjoyed it much better. The waiter served us then disappeared. No drink refills. For an upper end restaurant I was highly disappointed.

tl;dr the attentive service, the sophisticated ambiance, and the melt-in-your-mouth Steak Diane are highlights at this timeless downtown steakhouse The Mission Inn is a historic landmark hotel and a Riverside icon. It's no wonder that, over the years, celebrity guests have ranged from Theodore Roosevelt to Albert Einstein (the Mission Inn even invites visitors to sit in a wildly oversized chair that once belonged to William Howard Taft). Nowadays, this luxe hotel is the cornerstone of Downtown Riverside, and its flagship restaurant Duane's Prime Steak and Seafood (named for Mission Inn owner Duane Roberts) is among the most lavish meals that the Inland Empire has to offer. My family has typically visited Duane's for the opulent brunch buffet, but the dinner service has also been a longtime favorite for an in-town special occasion. Live piano fills the Duane's brightly lit bar-foyer. Enter past the host stand into the dimly lit, multi-roomed dining area. Arched doorways, exposed wood, and faux brick all channel Mission Revival style decor. Upholstered chairs are pressed up to the white-clothed tables. The dark, ornate carpeting looks like an antique rug. Unobtrusive elevator music mixes with the low din of chatter. My family visited for a weekend dinner, and the restaurant only ever reached about three-quarters capacity. The French Onion Soup boasted an extra-rich broth swimming with bits of onion and saturated brioche; my only criticism was that I would've welcomed a heartier portion of molten cheese. Meanwhile, the bacon- and bleu-heavy Innkeeper Salad reminded me of a Cobb except with a vinegar-based dressing. Across the mains, I was most impressed by the Classic Steak Diane. The exquisitely tender filet medallions were perfectly complemented by the hearty mushroom sauce. Further, the potatoes and carrots were simple yet well-executed. Meanwhile, the Peppercorn Prime New York was good-not-great. Namely, the steak felt undersauced and underseasoned. That being said, the melt-in-your-mouth brussel sprouts and smooth celery root puree accompaniments were excellent. The a la carte Colorado Lamb Chops easily fell off the bone, and the tasty flavor was further enhanced by the slightly minty sauce. Lastly, the Truffle Mac & Cheese and the Creamed Spinach both were liquidy but otherwise had full-bodied flavors. The service was impeccably attentive and professional, but the near-$100 entrees still invoked a gut-punch reaction. Across all of the dishes, only the Steak Diane felt worthy of its premium price tag. Nonetheless, the posh experience was uniquely suited for a special occasion in a way that few other Riverside restaurants could replicate.

And the best part is they're free. We ordered the carne fajitas and chile relleno. The fajitas were incredible, the meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, with that perfect smoky sear that comes from being cooked fresh on a hot skillet. Everything came out sizzling and stayed flavorful with every bite. The chile relleno was also really good, with a nice balance of savory and slightly creamy filling that paired well with the sauce.
