    Bowl of Manhattan Clam Chowder
    Dennis T.

I am pleased that after an absence of a few months, Manhattan Clam Chowder is back on the menu. And it is just as good as before. Diane can attest that their New England Clam Chowder is filled with clams and potatoes, and an excellent rendition of a Boston staple. Complimentary Sourdough Bread and butter rounded out our preliminaries. The last time we were here I had a tasty Lemon Peppered Rainbow Trout with Cheese Mashed Potatoes and a medley of vegetables, includinig zucchini, broccoli, carrots, Red Onion, and cauliflower. She had Fish & Chips, and pronounced the fish a little undercooked. But the only main complaint we have is that, as usual, we were still in the midst of eating our bowls of soup when our entrees came out. And Diane asked for two bags of Oyster Crackers but only received one.

Good customer, our go-to for seafood locally. We've been coming here for many years, enjoy the consistency and the flavor never waivers. We did feel our plate to go was much smaller than it used to be. It's a nice clean restaurant, can see the chefs cooking up your meal, grest selection of fresh seafood to go as well.

We've come to MB for 20 years plus. Came back here recently for the lunch specials and stayed a bit for Happy Hour. We came at an off time (after the lunch rush and before happy hour started). The establishment was not busy at all. Food-food was hot, delicious, and specifications were taken into account, which was greatly appreciated. Drinks-I ordered a few of the "drink of the day," and each of the same drink, in the same type of glass, came with inconsistent amounts. The drink itself did not match the taste of what was included in this "specialty"drink and it tasted like a regular margarita. Atmosphere-We were sat at a dirty table. Salt and pepper crumbs were piled up at the end of the table and we asked for it to be cleaned up, which was done promptly. Salt/pepper shakers were both grimy. Bathrooms needed to be cleaned better, and the trash can outside of the restrooms needs attention as the whole trash can was extremely filthy. Overall, it feels like a deep clean is needed here, and better daily upkeep. Service-Harmony was our server and she started out positive and great. However, as we continued our visit, she looked and sounded annoyed with our requests and service dwindled. We continued to order from the Happy Hour menu and even got an order to-go, so we were not just taking up a table and wasting time. Again, this was NOT a busy time at all. Over the years, we've noticed portions, value, and now service and cleanliness have dwindled. It's disappointing as we've been longtime customers and I'm not sure if we will be back again.

We had an early Christmas dinner here with family. Our relatives chose this restaurant because it's close to the Festival of Lights, which we were attending afterward. My uncle-in-law, a regular, highly recommended it, saying they're known for fresh seafood. We started with the captain's platter ($57.00), featuring succulent golden shrimp, coconut shrimp, shrimp & crab flautas, red crab California rolls, and sweet & spicy calamari. It was a great way to sample their appetizers, with the red crab sushi rolls and calamari being the table's favorites. I upgraded my combination to halibut and filet mignon, with cheesy potatoes and bacon Brussels sprouts as sides. I also added a side cup of chowder. I enjoyed the cajun-seasoned halibut, and the medium-rare filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The cheese potatoes were good, but the bacon Brussels sprouts were the standout. They also served complimentary sourdough bread with butter, which we devoured. My aunt-in-law wanted a drink, and we both ordered. The Caramelized Pineapple Margarita, the drink of the day ($9 add-on), was okay, but not my favorite. Our second round was the Market Broiler Mai Tai, well-balanced and my preferred choice. The service was mostly attentive, but I had to flag them down after 20 minutes for a forgotten Corona for my father-in-law. Overall, it was a nice meal with relatively good service. My wife's birthday was the day before, and the server offered us a complimentary sundae, which was a nice touch. They also mentioned they wouldn't sing, which my wife appreciated since she's modest and shy. I would return to Market Broiler, especially for their steak and seafood.

Calamari, it was crispy but not freshly fried, seasoning was good!

The day before valentines, is when we decided to come here. Glad we did. The hostess checked us in and we sat right behind the fish tank. We could see the kitchen, but it was just a big oven so not sure why they would have a big window there. The server was very sweet and took our drink orders. We were a party of 4, and were very happy that the images of the complimentary bread matched what was brought to our table. Ordered 2 appetizers Flautas, a must have, came out hot and crispy, and calamari. This is where it started going down hill for me. Came out crispy, but not even lukewarm. We told the waitress, and she took and said she would bring out another. The chef or maybe a line cook brought it out. The top pieces were a little warm, but not hot, like when you have a fresh batch. It was like they just scooped some hotter ones on top. We choose the build your own surf and Turf. Husband had med rare filet with lobster, I ordered rare filet with shrimp scampi. Friend ordered 6 oz steak with skewered scallops, her husband had the Veracruz fish dish. They got the steaks wrong, I received my husbands, so we switched not a big deal, but the shrimp scampi, had the overwhelming flavor of wine, they did not cook the alcohol out at all, it was inedible. I told the waitress, and she did not even offer to exchange it. It just sat there. The mashed potatoes "cheesy potatoes" are like a scoope of hospital mashed potatoes scooped onto a griddle, that cheese is melting on to create a "crust". They are not creamy where you put your fork in and see a mini cheese pull. Disappointing. You get two sides so I went with two starches the rice pilaf. This was so dry and hard, no flavor. It was like hospital food. I wanted to take my husbands clarified butter and pour it over to rehydrate it. My husband enjoyed his lobster and ended up with coleslaw and creole rice. The coleslaw was outstanding. He said the seasoning was great and it still had a bite. The creole rice was disappointing, cold hard and not fluffy at all. He said the seasoning was good, but served cold, just killed it. Our friends had the same experience with the sides, maybe their burners were out in their warmers, because none of our side were hot. The scallops were grilled very well, and her steak was a perfect medium. The fish in the Veracruz was also cooked perfectly for him. He enjoyed the 50/50 clam chowder, The plus for me, was the custom seafood salad they made. This was the reason I gave them 4 stars instead of three. I wanted a seafood wedge salad and they brought it. It was amazing and jam packed with fresh seafood. Beautiful pieces of shrimp and the crab was outstanding. This salad really saved my whole dinner experience. It was a great sized portion as well. I would suggest you invest in a better blue cheese dressing, this one was a little runny. Over all, our waitress kept our drinks full and treated us very well. Would love to give this place another try, the next time we are in Riverside.

Seafood Louie. Washed out tasting seafood, but big serving.

What happened to Market Broiler!?! After so many years of patronizing, we are not sure if we would come back again. The hot San Francisco sourdough loaf and salty butter is still crusty and divine. I still love their version of New England Clam Chowder. But the rest of our meal, and by far the major portion of our bill, was not good. My shrimp skewer was rubbery. Had to send it back. The replacement was borderline OK, but not compelling. The seafood in the Seafood Louie was tasteless like it had been boiled until stripped of any oceany taste, and was missing the hard boiled egg. The server, a very sweet, young person with a very positive attitude, appeared to not be well trained. She would forget to bring things we requested, and simply did not anticipate what was needed, something an experience server would spot and instinctively know. She ended up going back and forth far too frequently. I would expect better after being open all these years. And with customers paying so much more to eat out these days, I would expect more, not less, to keep the customers happy. The only saving grace was the chowder and bread.

Halibut and Macadamia Nut Mahi & Coconut Shrimp

Exceptional Service, Perfect Date Night Experience Had a fantastic date night at Market and took advantage of the Thursday special with macadamia nut mahi and coconut shrimp--absolutely delicious. The calamari was fantastic, and the house salad was crisp, fresh, and perfectly balanced. Service is usually good here, but tonight was on another level. Thomas delivered impeccable service from start to finish. He checked on us consistently, anticipated our needs before we asked, noticed when we were low on water and bread, and kept everything flowing effortlessly. Drinks, refills, pacing--flawless execution. We were seated, served, finished, and paid within about less than 50 minutes! efficient, smooth, and exactly how I like to dine: eat well, enjoy the moment, and leave satisfied. That kind of efficiency paired with genuine hospitality is rare. This is the kind of service that separates good from exceptional. The owner and manager should know that Thomas is the epitome of what great service looks like... professional, attentive, and on point. We'll absolutely be back!

I love Market Broiler and in the IE they can't be beat. Their seafood is always fresh with plenty of options. Oysters are always well prepared and delicious. Their clam chowder rivals some of the best I've tasted in Seattle and San Francisco. They even cook their steaks perfectly. I try to come in as much as possible. They definitely get busy during dinner hours so make a reservation if possible. Inside they have their normal decor like their location in Ontario Mills with fish hanging on the walls and boat memorabilia which just adds to their seafood first image. Service is always excellent and they never leave you for too long without checking on your table. Prices are well within reason for their food served. I love how they have a fresh seafood counter in front in case you want to take some home and cook yourself. They have updated their menu to show sustainable partnerships with farms, food suppliers and even wineries which just helps you feel warm and fuzzy when you know you're supporting family companies. On my last visit I noticed they sell their clam chowder to go by the quart and I will definitely be taking some home next time I dine there. Keep up the great work!

The shrimp were definitely the highlight because they soak up the sauce really well. The mussels and crawfish were good, but the meat was a bit smaller and seemed like it might be frozen. If you are ordering, I would recommend going for the shrimp set because it pairs the best with the sauce. Overall a really enjoyable meal and a fun place for a casual date night.
