This place is in the food lab. There are plenty of tables and its a nice vibe with the bars right next to me and other food options. This place is reasonably priced and you serve yourself. No hassle at all. I can just get ny own drinks at the soda machine and I don't need a server! I got 1lb shrimp with sausage, potatoes, and corn. I think the flavor is a tiny bit lacking, but the sausages was amazing! It was yummy for it being the first time eating here. I find the cajun here could be more spicy, more lemony, and definitely more salty, but its still really enjoyable to eat! read more

Not what I was expecting, but hey, I'm really happy I tried this place because if I knew what I was getting - I probably wouldn't have. You're probably like... what? OK: I was in the area and had a craving for tacos. I wanted a place I could get to on food, and was originally drawn to The Food Lab to another place. I happened to be walking by Shrimp Shack and noticed they had chicken tacos on the menu, so I figured hey, I like Cajun and I like tacos, so why not. I was sooooo hungry at the time, so it was probably me that misread, but I didn't realize they were going to be chicken tenders on tortillas. And I didn't think the Cajun sauce was going to be on top, I thought it was going to be marinated. "Huh.... OK... what is this?" Don't let looks fool you - this is a bomb of flavors that were SO GOOD. The Cole slaw plus the chicken plus the pickles (which I ate separately) plus the Cajun sauce.. it all WORKS. Brilliantly. What a great lunch! And it let me pleasantly full. When you order, you're given a pager that works throughout the whole Food Lab. It took about ~12 minutes for my food, but everything is fresh and made to order. Sooo good! We went in a Tuesday to the indoor market in downtown Riverside after hiking and decided to stop by for food. I payed less than $5 for 2 shrimp tacos, it was taco Tuesday! The flavor was soo good! The coleslaw and the sauce were creamy, sweet, and seasoned well. I used them to help with the spice level. We got them spicy and it was a tear jerker! The spice did not linger but rather just punch you in the face . Potent in a powdery way (maybe cayenne). My sinus cleared up and my eyes got watery. Would come again and get them mild. I didn't read the reviews first, so I was caught off guard by the long wait. It's a little awkward when you're with a group and everyone else is already eating because they got something from the other restaurants at the Food Lab... I ordered the fish and chips, which were all right but nothing special. The fish was smaller than I expected and had a low fish to breading ratio, so not great. Fries were excellent and had a nice dusting of Cajun seasoning--but there's so much more fries than fish that I didn't really want any more by the end. read more

I've eaten at the haven city location in Rancho Cucamonga and love it there so I couldn't help myself from choosing this place to eat at in the Riverside Food Lab dining hall. Service was quick and friendly. The shrimp tacos were packed with shrimp and so yummy. The Mac and cheese was creamy with a hint garlic in their sauce. The one difference that the Rancho location does not have are the beignets. Or at least I've never noticed them on the menu before. The beignets are heavenly! Better than Disneyland's by far. There's actually airy dough inside that makes for the perfect fluffiness. I added caramel sauce for $1 and they give you plenty, it was so good with the beignets! read more

We just went for dessert, but WOW. We were gobsmacked by the beignets, very hit and covered in powdered sugar. The dipping sauce is just $1 for a large portion, and it was warmed as well (we had chocolate but they offer caramel and strawberry as well). I went here with my family on a Sunday afternoon and got the shrimp tacos and beignets. Let me tell you... shrimp tacos were absolutely amazing. And I come from a Mexican culture that's big on Mariscos and shrimp tacos and this place blew me away. I didn't even want to put lime on it because I didn't think it could get any better.. but I ended up adding lime and I was wrong, IT WAS MORE DELICIOUS. It's very rare coming across restaurants that warm your soul but this place did it. I'm sad I didn't find this place sooner. Food did take longer than other places but once I tasted it, I decided they can take as long as they need. The employees working were very polite, and had welcoming smiles. A welcome addition to the Riverside Food Lab, it's interesting that a Cajun style restaurant replaced another. I'm familiar with the brand because of their Haven City Market location in Rancho Cucamonga. Familiar with, not experienced with, until now. Sure, a smidgen portion of shrimp and fettuccine samples during Yelp events is experience - but a full-size portion? Not until recently. Typically, I'll visit a place a couple of times before writing a review. I'm generally focused on variety and consistency. After Teo visits to date, I'm happy to report my findings. The first time was mid-afternoon, and I was greeted by the friendly cashie. I decided to try the shrimp tacos and a side of fries with the Cajun seasoning (a .50 upcharge for seasoning choices).everything came up fairly quickly, 5-10 minutes, almost exactly as quoted. The fries were perfectly cooked and really hot. I love the breaded shrimp, and the tacos had a great sauce and cabbage. Just squirt everything with provided limes, and you're set! Fries 5/5, tacos 4/5. On my second visit, I wanted to try the popcorn shrimp and a side of sausages. Again, everything came up fresh and hot in roughly 10 minutes. A different cashier served me and checked up on me as I sat at the counter. He changed the channel on the TV for me, so that was nice. I loved the shrimp! By popcorn, they really mean medium-sized shrimp cut in half, which is perfect. 4.5/5 The sausage was decent. Basically, it's cut in half and covered in garlic butter with spices. I thought it was good but wished for a spicier andouillie type. 3/5 Overall, the food here is good. By sticking with the shrimp options, I'm pleased so far. Loved everything we got! We ordered the shrimp tacos, shrimp garlic noodles, fried shrimp, mac and cheese and shrimp boil. Everything was great and came out super hot and fresh. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and you can tell that everything was made right as you ordered. We stopped in to grab some lunch at the Food Lab and noticed this new place was finally open and decided we should at least taste test something. They have quite a few things on their menu that made me think this "new place" may be a revamp of what was here previously, but I was told this is actually a completely new spot with different owners. The woman working was very attentive and friendly. She mentioned they had a fresh made watermelon mango lemonade, so of course we had to order one of those, and then also a basket of popcorn shrimp and a couple of shrimp tacos. After a few quick minutes our order was ready and looked amazing. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious! The popcorn shrimp were perfectly crisp and crunchy, and the sauce complimented them so well. The shrimp in the tacos were cooked perfectly, not chewy at all, and without being spicy had really great flavors. Super excited to try the newest business inside food court in the Food Lab. Out of all the business when we walked in this was by far the busiest- I think everyone was looking forward to something new. Our food took over 20 minutes to make , staff was friendly but I think overwhelmed in the loud fast placed eatery. We ordered the Cajun Burger combo w/garlic fries, Jumbo Buttery Shrimp N' Chips (also upgraded to garlic), 2 famous shrimp tacos, a side of regular Mac n' cheese, a mango lemonade and a dr.pepper - with a 15% tip it came out to a little over $60 bucks. Verdict: 2 Famous Shrimp Tacos - approximately 4 mini shrimps in each taco shell. They have a garlic taste to them more then Cajun , and same could be said for the sauce drizzle - very garlicky. This taco probably would have been better with more shrimp in it, as it was there gets to a point where you are just eating Tortilla, sauce, and cabbage. You will need napkins! Cajun Burger Combo - My husband strongly disliked this burger. He said it tasted like a frozen burger heated up and was in no way Cajun ... if there was seasoning on it then it was too light to taste. Fries are good but on the softer side - this I prefer, but he likes more crispy, so maybe if someone is looking for crispy ask them to leave it in the fryer a little longer. Did not finish. Shrimp basket - the butterfly shrimp were very good size, light crispy exterior and soft pillowy inside with the shrimp. I really like them and so did the kids. The fries... so we asked for these to be garlic and boy they were! So much garlic. Chunks of garlic all over the fries and they tasted as if the oil they used had garlic in it as well. The shrimp even tasted strongly like garlic since they had sat on top of the fries - that's literally how much garlic there was. I like this but it was too funny since the burger combo garlic fries had about 50% less garlic flavor and no chunks of garlic. Wild in difference. Mac n' Cheese - don't get this. Seriously. Maybe the Cajun Mac is better but this is so plain as to not even have a cheese flavor, very bland. My kids even rejected it. So overall - this place has potential but I felt like the food we had was either bland or garlic flavored - we did not taste anything "Cajun". read more

I was at the Foodlab on a Saturday night along with tons of other people. I wanted to try something different so after walking around I was craving some shrimp. I was a bit overwhelmed with the choices so after asking the cashier Joel some questions about the menu, I decided to go with the Kickin bowl which had shrimp, an egg, sausage and rice. Sadly, both the shrimp boil and the beignets were a miss here. I highly regretted adding the Ramen as advertised because it was super salty and difficult to eat. The only plus here was the amount of shrimp you got. The sauce had a weird aftertaste that I couldn't figure out. The beignets were extremely dense and dry, unlike the light and fluffy texture you would expect from a beignet. The food court as a whole was extremely cute, welcoming, and had plenty of options. I've tried several restaurants inside the Food Lab, and I've enjoyed them all--some more than others. More recently, I tried shrimp tacos and fried fish tacos from the new Cajun restaurant, Shrimp Shack (where Dhat Creole used to be). I tried the shrimp tacos first, and I really enjoyed them. They definitely did NOT skimp on the shrimp! There was so much shrimp, a few of them fell out after a couple bites. These tacos are probably the most packed shrimp tacos I've ever had. The flavors are amazing, and they have just the right amount of sauce on them. The fish tacos are also good, but if I had to choose, I'd say the shrimp tacos are better. There's also a good amount of fish on the tacos, and they also had a good amount of sauce. The only negative for me is I felt the fish tacos were a bit too salty. The fish is also fried hard, so if you prefer it on the softer side, you may need to request that when you order. I plan to go back to try the beignets. I was too full after those tacos to try them. The service was good, and the gentleman who took my order was polite. NOTE: The seating area attached to the restaurant is small, and it was dirty when I went. I was there at least an hour, and no one came to clean the seating area even after people had gotten up to leave. With The Festival of Lights going on, I suggest if you go to the Food Lab to take disinfectant wipes to clean off your table, not matter where you choose to eat. Overall, this restaurant is decent.
