Touted as a soccer pub, and yet it was closed when I tried to stop in for the World Cup Quarterfinal at 2PM on a Friday. What gives?

I came here several times on Grandmas marathon weekend to watch the world cup. They had all the games and were opened beyond their hours of operations to show the games. I got some beers and hung out in the back. The guy bartender was also pretty friendly the first time I got the check. Cool spot in town to go drink and just hang out. Talk about a whiskey bar, they have a lot more than a brew pub I've ever been to. It was around 10pm, place was packed with people of all ages...I sat at the bar and ordered a beer with cheese curds. I enjoyed it, if I lived close, probably a regular. read more

Hubby and I went on St. Patty's Day, knowing the place was going to be insanely packed but wanted to give it a try. Was greeted and felt very welcomed. Had to wait standing until we got an open table. (Not bad of a wait at all) Then was told any food orders were about an hour wait, we were okay with that understanding that they were very busy. We actually got the food in 20 mins after ordering. Hubby had the bangers and mash, I got the corned beef and cabbage. Both were so so delicious that I'm still thinking about the food and can't wait to go again next time! I was expecting mediocre food but it was way better than I expected. Staff were so helpful and seemed very happy to help. I appreciate everyone being so calm and collected given that it was a hectic holiday. There may have been one server that didn't seem happy but we didn't have any interaction with her as a server, just an observation. The bagpipe entertainment was so awesome as well, felt like a nice celebration. Ambiance was very Irish I loved it so much and would like to go on a normal day one time. read more

This place has great energy and a great vibe! Came here with 3 others for drinks and a Saturday night comedy show. Workers were awesome and drinks were great! I got a flight of beer free with a Yelp check-in, and it was awesome! It was a great way to try 4 local beers. The comedy show is a genius idea and such a fun concept. Nothing better than drinks and great laughs. As we left it was getting much busier than earlier, but the crowd was young and seemed like a great time. read more

Fun! Believe me, a Irish Pub in the center of Duluth. So much fun for those that want some "controlled" noise and happy people. The Pub is old and the decor is old but it is very inviting and welcoming. People around you, patrons, are friendly. The Bar tenders and servers are great and hospitable and professional. The fun also is that one needs to order the food. One goes to the bar and then the servers bring the food to your table. I don't know if this is Irish way but is nice to do it. The Reuben Eggrolls are great and delicious. Try also the Fish and Chips. Remember, Chips in that world are French fries. Drinks? Well, both Bartenders are really professional and knowledgeable. As I said, if you like that "controlled"noise that goes up and down while there is a Pool Tournament, but, behind all of that enjoyment, there is a sweet music coming from a little Theater behind all of that mare magnum. I've got to give props to this Irish Pub for serving a Tempeh Reuben on their menu. I respect any place that will bother to serve a protein-forward vegetarian option. I have to give the place four stars rather than the five I'd hoped because the tempeh could have had a little more flavor to it. A little more marinating? Or more time on the grill? But the beer here is top notch; I did a flight and all of the in-house brews were a step above the others. The service was notable, too, since my waitress was very kind and patient as I begged and pleaded for the TV to be changed to my football game... After my dinner, I stayed for the Saturday night Pro Comedy in the back of the pub and also had a good few laughs there. I'd recommend this place for it's all around entertainment value, good service, and decent food. read more

Had a great time here on a Saturday night not long ago. We didn't stay for the comedy show, but peeked in the room where it was going to be held. Small! Cozy and intimate. Maybe too much so? The room was being used for a private party of giant rugby players before the comedy show. As their time in the room ended they emptied out into the pub changing the atmosphere... It was a party! We did try the food along with the maple ale. We loved everything! The food was better than I expected for a bar type place. The burgers seem to be their specialty with different topping choices. The neat thing for a non cow eater like me is that you can get all the same toppings on a house made veggie burger! Sweet! I had the spinach and artichoke topping on my veg burger and the fries. The fries were soooooo good. Beer battered and seasoned. Husbo had the Logan (pork, ham, & mozz chez) with the potato salad. The potato salad had a great dill dressing on it and tasted so fresh. Wow! I would visit this pub again to play some pool or darts next time and maybe take in the comedy show. Fun place! read more

The reviews are definitely mixed by previous yelpers but I have to say, I love the atmosphere, location, comedy club, and Irish fare. First, I didn't not notice the smell others indicated in their review. In fact, the first thing I noticed was how cool the place is decorated. Second, I highly recommend the Irish entrees. We shared the Irish Trio and Spinach Dip appetizer. It was delicious. The corned beef was well flavored and tender. The sausage was equally delish as was the Shepard's pie. The service was great, especially seeing it was a busy Saturday night. As a side note: love the comedy club! Such a fun little venue, highly recommend. Great date night place! read more

I stopped in while on a business trip to Duluth. They feature the largest assortment of whiskey that I've ever seen. They also have local microbrews on tap as well. There is a comedy section in a sectioned off room and you have to call ahead for tickets to the shows. I've been to two and they were a lot of fun. The food is solid and I've never had anything bad here. A must try if your are in Duluth visiting! read more

Well we came to the Dubh Linn Pub hoping to sample some of their beers, but on the day we visited, their tap was broken -- we could've ordered other more commercial beers, but their own house brews were inaccessible. Talk about a disappointment. So unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about the beer here. We were starving, so we decided to stay and eat. It was average. I ordered a cheeseburger. Safe option, right? It kind of irked me that I was not asked at all how I wanted my burger cooked. Sorry, but unless you're doing fast food, a restaurant should ask how you want your burger cooked. Came out medium well, no pink in the center. I do like the crusty exterior that was developed -- kind of reminded me of a Culver's Butterburger, just thicker. It was OK. The fries that came with it were not great -- they were the kind of fries that are coated in some kind of thin powder or batter before they are fried. Not necessary and actually detracting from the fries because you can't really taste the potato as much. My husband ordered a salad, which he said was fine. As we didn't order corned beef or anything specifically Irish, I can't really speak to their authenticity as an Irish pub. We were underwhelmed. And even though it was completely dead when we visited, I would say that our waitress only did an OK job of keeping tabs on us... she clearly did not want to be there and it showed. One more note, the stalls in the bathrooms are really narrow, which means that if you're a girl and you're sitting down on the toilet, your leg actually bumps into the toilet paper holder and you have to kind of sit at an angle. Weird. But on the plus side (depending on your preference), the bathroom does smell a lot like corned beef. read more

This is one of the best Irish bars I have been to in the states (and I have hit a few here and in Ireland). Live music on Friday night, darts, pool, etc. Dave at the bar does it right - took care of us at the bar all night. Manager Maureen was awesome and super knowledgeable. The menu was solid. This is my 2nd time here. I had a Green Olive Burger and it was really good. The patties looked hand pressed and were cooked just right. They allow you to substitute Garlic Mashed Potatoes for French Fries which was nice. They have a very personable staff as well. I had a great experience here! read more

I had the bangers and smash. It is great. Parsley gravy, potatoes, vegetables are terrific. Bangers are good, but not much different than a Hillshire smoked sausage from the grocery. The menu suggested it would be a locally sourced product. It might be, but still tasted a bit mass produced. The dish is worth the great designation, just not exactly what I was expecting. Dubh Linn is ok. Nothing exciting. The Lake Superior Trout is pretty average. Although the side of horse radish sauce is the most bland and flavorless horse radish sauce I have ever eaten. Pretty cool atmosphere for an Irish Brew Pub. I found it amusing that they have a portrait of James Buchanan painted on the wall proclaiming the pride he held for his heritage, when he is widely considered by most historians to be the worst president in the history of the United States. If you enjoy the odor of a deep fried jacket surrounding you and following you until you have it washed, I highly recommend wearing it into Dubh Linn for a couple of hours. read more

If you haven't been here you need to go here! The food is real and authentic Irish fare. I gave the Reuben a shot, and I was skeptical since most corned beef is extremely dry and flavorless. This corned beef was juicy and absolutely packed with flavor! The potato salad that came as the side was the best I've ever had. A truly satisfying meal all around and I haven't even gotten started on the beer or whisky. They have beer brewed at the pub and it's among the tastiest beer out there. Their IPA doesn't have the gross kick most IPAs have, and it goes down nice and smooth with good flavor. They also have hundreds and hundreds of different types of whisky. They even had a whisky made in Utah that I've never seen outside the state. If you're looking for good food and a good drink in Duluth this is the place to go! read more

This is a 3 star rating only because I did not try any desserts. Normally a dessert makes / breaks a rating for me, but this one falls in the neutral zone although could well be higher on another visit. Being a Irish pub, I tried the local microbrew. This one was called Double Hops IPA. Made by the pub themselves. Very good. And while I'm not a beer drinker or claim expertise, this beer was not bitter, but had a pleasant, earthy flavor. And it was cold! I had the Shepard's pie. Which was spiced minced lamb topped with a heaping serving of mashed potatoes (insert Irish potato joke here). Very very good dish. The spices really hint at the clean flavor of the meat. My wife had the shrimp & chips. This was the ok part of the meal. Nothing much to write about. This was a week night, so we did not see any stand up comedy, but a good selection of classic rock kept my 2 year old entertained! read more

Dubh Linn Brew Pub... We got into Duluth a few hours earlier than we thought we would. So me and the Gal had our handy list of brew pubs. Now I wouldn't really consider the Dubh Linn a brew bub it's really an Irish Pub that brews a couple of beers or as they say a Nano-brewry. We had a tasty lunch of Salmon sliders and Lamb sliders. We also ordered their Maple Beer. Truth is after lunch we ordered a second one and moved over to a comfy sofa. We chatted with the server for a bit to find out things to do and if there was live music anywhere that evening. He was very helpful. A few times he mentioned "the Lake" I asked a stupid question "which lake?" Lake Superior! Coming from the twin cities we have lots of lakes, but in Duluth there is only "the Lake". They needed to have the Irish music so you could hear it. Other than that it was a fun stop on our mini vacation. 3 Stars. read more
