Being a fan of the original Duck Donuts, we thought we'd try the VA beach franchise, and it did not disappoint. If you like cake donuts, then definitely try it. They operate assembly line style, where you choose your icing (maple, chocolate, glazed, etc) and then your toppings (bacon, coconut, sprinkles, etc.). The donuts were fresh out of the oven when we were there- there's nothing like a warm donut with gooey glaze. Mmmmm! The maple bacon doughnuts are so so good....when I take trips home to NY....I have to bring at least 2 dozen...we are all hooked...

Cinnamon Sugar, Maple Bacon, Chocolate Glazed...absolute crack. Fresh, hot, and made right in front of you! Seriously some of the best donuts I've ever had. They have a slight crisp on the outside, soft cake-like consistency on the inside. You can never go wrong with their donuts. Only downside is that the icing can become a drippy hot mess in the box. The breakfast sandwiches are pretty good too! I enjoyed my breakfast and coffee when I dropped by to get donuts for coworkers. Terrible experience here. Went in about a month or two ago. My fiance asked which doughnut the girl at the register recommends and she retorted "I don't eat doughnuts" in a tone that would suggest we are disgusting for doing so. Then my fiance continued to ask "oh okay, well what is popular" and she says "I don't know" I left and my fiance ended up ordering doughnuts still. I didn't eat them so I can not speak on behalf of the quality but I don't plan on spending money someplace where people are rude and condescending. Probably a rare bad experience but I will not eat duck donuts because of it! read more

I really wanted to hate duck doughnuts since everyone raves about them. I could never understand how a doughnut could be that special. I had to see why these doughnuts were so "amazing". I purchased a dozen to try. At first bite, my impression was, "FrEAkinG AmAZInG!!! What heavenly cake!". I never thought I could feel that way about a doughnut. I don't care about the wait, the line, the store's hours, the price, the crappy parking, or the attitude that some of the teenage staff may have given, all 120lbs of me would gladly jump through hurdles to get to these amazing little pieces of heaven next time I want doughnuts. Everyone loves the donuts that's a given, but the experience from the parking to getting your donuts is not favorable. There is no parking. Waiting in line is to be expected but it's very frustrating when even the other customers are rude because they all hate waiting and it's morning time it's just not a very friendly atmosphere. The employees at the register are very patient and nice but then the people making the donuts have a lot of confusion about what's going on and what they're supposed to make. It's a new place and will take some time to get more organizes and flow better. Until then I'll stick with Krispy Kreme it's more affordable at 8 dollars for a dozen than 13.33. read more

These donuts are the best donuts I've ever had. My favorite is the donut with maple glaze and bacon! It tastes just like pancakes it so good! I haven't been disappointed yet, and as packed as it is the service is pretty fast. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the size of the parking lot, it's so small and cramped and it's always packed, so I have to park next door and walk over. The other reason is the staff. They are always just standing around and one girl was play fighting with another employee in front of the customers, which is very unprofessional. read more

I adore Duck Donuts. I've been to the locations in NC and was so excited when they opened up here! The King's Grant location is good but the store on Dam Neck/Princess Anne is incredible! The donuts are slightly crunchy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. The glaze flavors are sooo good. The maple / bacon combo just can't be beat - an absolute favorite. It's worth the few minutes of wait time as your donut is made to order - watching your donut being made, boxed and handed to you is just plain fun. If you think all donuts are the same, you are so wrong! This is a must-try place. read more

If you happen to be in search of some of the freshest donuts in the area, this is the place! We happened to stop by the Duck Donut establishment located on Virginia Beach Blvd. When we arrived at the location, we were immediately greeted by the aroma of freshly-cooked deliciousness engulfing the surrounding area as we stepped out of our vehicles. As we inched closer to the entrance, the aroma intensified until we finally opened the door and found ourselves in donut euphoria. The establishment was a quaint, little shop with a few workers manning the register and drive-thru window. There was added entertainment value due to the fact that you could actually see your donuts being made right in front of you! Merchandise lined the walls: colorful T-shirts and mugs galore. Ordering our donuts was pretty convenient to say the least. Of course, you could order your donuts right at the register (if you happened to know what you wanted). Unfortunately for us, this was our first time coming here so we didn't really have any idea what to expect when ordering, so we took the alternative option of filling out a form to mix and match different flavors and toppings to suit our taste buds. Dang it! Why did someone have to go and give me a Duck Donut! Now that is all I can think about when I am bored, tired, sick of working, hungry, ....shoot.....all the time!!! I had the warm made-to-order maple bacon donut. It was melt in your mouth delicious. Next time I will try the Almond Joy donut with chocolate icing, coconut and almonds. There are so many combos from which to choose! And if you have a friend who wants something less sinfully delicious, they can opt for the breakfast sandwich or yogurt. Now they have two locations in Virginia Beach; one at King's Grant and Virginia Beach Blvd, and one on Landstown Centre Way. Not sure of the hype. People often get hyped about stuff that isn't worth getting hyped about - Crystal Pepsi, "Twin Peaks", Jazzercise, etc. I went in with my son and his new friend Pablo. The line was fairly long and Pablo exclaimed "¡Ay, caramba!". I thought it was funny, but an employee apparently did NOT. We were immediately shushed and told that total silence is needed in the store while donuts were being prepared. What? Are you kidding me?! So, for the hour or so we waited, it was completely quiet except for the shuffling of people's feet, cash register noises, and the sound of donut making. At some point my phone rang and my ringtone is a fairly obscene rap song from the 90s. The ENTIRE staff and everyone in line looked at me like I just let out a long, bombastic fart. I quickly silenced it, but to make matters worse - I did fart. That was the straw that broke the camel's toe. My son and Pablo tried to stifle their giggles in vein. We all started laughing and had to leave. Never got a chance to try a donut, but they look really unhealthy. read more

Delicious hot donuts...I mean, so hot the glaze and frostings and toppings were falling off...those kind of hot donuts. The box says they taste just as good reheated in the microwave for 8-10 seconds but why would anyone need to reheat them?? My fiance and I couldn't get out of the parking lot without eating our 1/2 dozen donuts. microwave instructions need to apply to us!! Of course we got the maple bacon donut (I think that's a requirement), lemon frosting (my favorite), vanilla frosting with sprinkles (one colored and one chocolate sprinkles), cinnamon sugar, and glazed. When I took a bite of the maple bacon I was instantly trying to figure out how they cook the bacon and keep it so crispy yet soft and non-greasy to make this donut take like a complete breakfast in your mouth. Sweet and savory, no doubt! The lemon frosting was refreshing and crisp. I loved how the heat from the fresh donuts melted the vanilla frosting and sprinkles on top. I liked the colored sprinkles over the chocolate ones, just a matter of mental preference I guess. The colored sprinkles just taste different than plain chocolate. The cinnamon sugar was okay and so was the glazed. I think if I want a glazed donut I'm happy with Krispy Kreme, but for any other kind of donut I'll make it Duck Donuts! read more

I couldn't wait until DD opened, I had never had them before...saw the building going up for months and then finally they opened. The plus of these donuts is that each one comes out warm and the glaze is soft and melty on top of the warm donuts. However, the donuts are so filling, they are cake, honestly I would have to be extremely hungry to eat them again. I suggest you go on an empty stomach or eat a light salad for lunch and then go have one. I was so full after eating one that I couldn't eat dinner. I will stay with Krispy Kreme.
