This is not safari, just time spent enjoying being alive in a beautiful place. My boyfriend and I chose to do a Jeep Tour with Blackfeet Outfits. Normally, I don't splurge on things I deem to be "touristy," as I hail from a resort town myself and am fairly comfortable outdoors. But, it was September, high bear season, a last minute trip and yadayadayada, so a jeep tour sounded safer. I am SO glad I didn't miss out on the Jeep Tour experience! Other than tranquil Glacier National Park, the time spent with Algers of Blackfeet Outfitters was the highlight of our Montana Excursion. I'm already looking forward to going back next year for fly-fishing, and renting one of the awesome cabins on the property. I saw some mixed reviews online of his lodging. I'm not sure where that stems from, although I assume it's because Babb isn't as glamorous as staying in the Park itself. It is however way more comfortable and a short drive to the Many Glaciers entrance of GNP. For those with RVs, he also has 17 hook ups on site. Best time ever.

Our boat captain, Nate, was not only a skilled boat driver, but also gave us great information about the history and other features of Glacier. We had Jack take us across Swiftcurrent Lake on Chief Teo Guns, completed our quarter mile hike to the second dock, and had Aubrey take us across Lake Josephine. The rides were informative and provided a great opportunity to take pics from the lake and enjoy the scenery. We learned about the building of the hotel, the impact of fire on the forest, the glaciers, and the Beaver Lodge on Swiftcurrent Lake. It's a great way to take in Glacier from the water and I recommend this tour. If you're planning a trip to Glacier consider making your reservation early. I waited and got lucky that a last minute ticket opened but it was for the 5 pm tour. It was a little late for my family to start a hike so we stayed on the boat to take the return trip. Notes: 1. The hike between the two lakes is approximately 0.2 miles and the climb is around 50 feet. You could do this hike in sneakers but hiking shoes/boots would be ideal. 2. All bear spray must be stored in your bag.

They were closest to the vacation home that we rented for the week in Somers and delivered the boat right to our docks! I was very pleased with the quality of their boats, particular their 24' pontoon. The pontoon was in great condition, unlike many rental companies using run down equipment. We also rented their smaller boat the day before and it was also above average, ran very smoothly and was nicely cleaned and well kept. Their customer service is impeccable- friendly, happy, and grateful. Prices were comparable and somewhat cheaper than most places. They also do long term rentals at a special rate. We will definitely rent from them again soon.

At $85 each ($64 US) this tour is overpriced (compared to the US boat tours in Glacier that cost between $19 and $38 each). Also, it would be nice to reserve the tickets on line ahead of time rather than making sure we got to the dock by 6pm the day before to buy tickets in person. Tip: if you want a seat on the top (the best views and cooler) make sure you get in line 30 minutes before your cruise. Also, there are no bathrooms on the boat but there are restrooms in goat haunt. Unfortunately, this summer they aren't able to land at goat haunt because the US doesn't have enough parks workers. There are great views along the whole Upper Waterton Lake. We sat up top which is uncovered for the best views. It was a little chilly at times, but not too bad. They said you often see wildlife like moose and bears. We didn't see either, but we did get to see a bald eagle. I think this is a great thing to do to introduce you to the park.

Ran into stiff winds and some rain on the way back and it took alot of cursing, gritting my teeth and girding my old loins to push home. Needless to say I was well over the hour but we called it even. Only reason this isn't a 5 star is because I was surprised they didn't come out given the weather shift and me being the ONLY boat on the lake.Oddly I didn't have a "time out" on my sheet, but hubby figured I was out there for over 2 hours. He asked the staff about it as he was starting to get worried, but they said they were tracking me the entire time. I made it back but it was a little scary at times. I stayed close to shore though. Remember, I'm nearly 60, young folks would probably eat this up and find it exhilarating! So....Despite my over ambitious excursion you have GOT to try it!! It was so cool to see. Some of the owners were there to answer questions and just talk about their boats. But it was a rainy day so most owners were not standing in the rain. We did talk to one owner who said his dad bought his boat to use as a fishing boat in the 1950's. The son, current owner has refinished it and uses it as a pleasure boat today. Impressive display of these old crafts. You had to go through the lodge to get to the marina and it was also impressive. There was plenty of parking and they were shuttling folks on golf carts from the parking lots and on street parking areas. Nice event, cool lodge.

They do ask you about how long you plan to be out and try to gauge it a bit for the next person. It does take about an hour to get across the lake and an hour back- so I imagine most folks are renting for two to three hours. You can also take it to the lodge and dock and eat if you want. All in all a nice time but just do understand a head of time that a wait for a boat is part of the adventure.

Arranging our private group trip was easy and convenient. The guides are deeply knowledgeable and competent, and put together both great accommodations (camping setup in a local KOA campground, prepping all our food) and amazing hikes. We had an exciting but challenging grizzly bear encounter that the hiking guide handled expertly - we had complete confidence in him, for good reason. If you're planning any kind of guided hiking adventure, you really want to choose this company - although others operate in the park, this is the company that the others are required by Glacier to work with, so it makes sense to go directly with them.
