This is our favorite place to stop for a drink and food in Icy Strait Point. Each time we have been here it was cold and rainy and they have a big fire going. You can find local beer and some cocktails. The Halibut sandwich is one of our favorites along with the reindeer chili. The staff are friendly and help us with some of our food and drink choices. We always meet friendly people and share stories. The music is also good. Depending on the day you may also see some whales, eagles or seals. The patio in the back has a fire so you can sit out there and enjoy the scenery. read more

This was more cafeteria style than I was expecting but we were able to get some seats by the window to watch some whales and otters. Service was quick. The food, particularly the smoked salmon dip, was so good I wish I hadn't been sharing it. Got to try the Cannery Red Ale which was quite good. read more

Not sure what I expected from this Holland America cruise line tourist location where you literally disembark, explore a minute then return to ship, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a really cool bar that offered delicious ISB Cannery Red Ale brews. The bartender was very sweet and we really enjoyed our time just riding up the gondola then hiking back to the ship through the rainforest. Nice spot even if only just grabbing a beer. Beware of skeeters. They found my face to be a buffet. read more

While the building is nice, the food is forgettable. I ordered the salmon dip, which came with plenty of dippers. The dip itself, though, was lacking in flavor and texture. I had some of my wife's fries, which were pretty good. Counter service, but even here, the lady who took our order barely seemed competent. read more

What seems to be a tourist trap in Hoonah is actually an incredible restaurant I'd recommend trying. Contrary to the name there is no duck rip. The recommendations of what to get is the halibut sandwich and the smoked salmon chowder. Parents said the halibut was the best bite they had (and as someone who had a bite of it, it was cooked well and had the perfect grill marks). There was a halibut pizza which was okay but had too much ranch and was a bit too gimmicky. The smoked salmon chowder was the star of the day and an Alaskan staple. They didn't skimp on the salmon which was great and it was super flavorful throughout. read more

Duck Point Smokehouse Restaurant was ill prepared to receive as many guests as it did! We waited in line for a ridiculous amount of time to order a beer. Then again, we had to wait in a different (long) line for another ridiculous amount of time, to order food. . I honestly couldn't believe the chaos and mismanagement that we experienced at this establishment. On a sidenote; Cecelia (working the bar) was dealing with disgruntled customers the entire time that we were there, (she did so graciously). This poor employee was being chastised for the restaurant, running out of IPAs and APAs and whatever else. The line would have moved more effectively had there been more people behind the bar. The only time we saw another employee, was when an older woman dropped by and emptied the tip container - a container that that *Cecelia had *earned by *herself. Cecelia was spectacular and the four of us in our party, hope she quits and finds a place that appreciates her. We would **positively skip this place next time. read more

After screaming down in cold rainy weather on the longest zipline in the world, we found ourselves in front of the Duck Point Smokehouse (adjacent to the zipline landing point) and decided to try out a few beers. We didn't order any food during our visit, so this review only focuses on beer. THE DRINKS | Variety of beers on tap. I'm sure there are other drinks, but when there's a row of beer taps sitting in front of you, it's kind of hard to see anything else. We ordered... - Cannery Red Ale | Alaskan brew by Denali Brewing Co. Malty with a nice, crisp finish. There's a slight bitterness but not overpowering. - Smash Galaxy Double IPA | By Alaskan Brewing Co. Brewed with Australian Galaxy hops and Northwest Pilsner Malt. It's quite bitter and tropical at the same time. And I say this with all IPAs... it tastes a little like weed. THE DUCK POINT SMOKEHOUSE FEELS | Situated in front of Port Frederick, there are large glass windows and a covered outdoor dining area which offer unobstructed breathtaking views of the water and surrounding mountains. Came here last week while on a cruise and probably had the best sangria of my life. Like make a b-line here for their red sangria. I believe our bartender's was named Rachel and she was so sweet and nice. We all had a great time here having some drinks and chillin for a bit before the zip line. We also ordered some fries and chicken bites which hit the spot. They were hotttt and fresh out of the fryer and was a nice snack to munch on. The restaurant also has a fireplace which is really cozy if it's cold out. Totally recommend making a stop here if you're in the area. It's right by where the gondola drops you off so you can't miss it! read more

This is conveniently located right by the cruise ship terminal. It is also right where you meet your excursion groups. The inside is huge with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have walk up ordering at the counter and provide you with a electronic number then food is delivered to your table. One end had a fireplace. However when we went they had two large doors open at the front door and doors open to the patio and it was COLD inside. Not friendly for staying long periods of time and actually the pizza did not stay hot very long so it actually affected the temperature of the food. They had some unique items: Halibut pizza, reindeer chili, salmon chowder. All were delicious. The pizza is made with white cream sauce and had a lot of halibut on it. They also have a bar inside. The staff was friendly. The prices are on the high end but the food was tasty. Skip the drinks, it was just under $5 for a soda and $3.25 for a bottle of water. read more

Went to icy strait on a cruise through Alaska and it was a small town at this port where we found this restaurant. They have beautiful views of the water from their patio with a nice fire pit a few people can sit around. We decided to try the Buffalo burger and it was so meaty! The patty was about the thickness of 6+ standard fast food patties. The toppings complimented the burger without overpowering it. If you're going through this small town I definitely recommend trying it out. read more

We got halibut sandwiches and the salmon dip as a starter. The sandwich was just halibut with tartar sauce and a few pieces of lettuce. The bun was overly dry and the fish was fresh but bland. The salmon dip I couldn't eat bc I asked if our order had onions and she only mentioned the tartar sauce. I don't really understand all the good reviews. The food was appallingly overpriced (sandwich was 18, dip was 16) for a measly amount of food and mediocre taste. Line to order at the 1 person register took prob 20m to get through 5-7 parties. The bathroom also only had 1 out of 2 working faucets and the water was so scalding hot it was unusable. read more

The service was okay but the main reason I went to this restaurant is to eat smoked fish which they advertise as smoking all their fish until you ask them in person. Maybe they can say the salmon dip was smoked but they had zero smoked fish and told me they do not smoke any fish at this restaurant. Don't waste your money here, take a shuttle into Hoonah and try a place to eat over there. Just got back from a cruise and it reminded me of a commercialized miniature knots berry farm. read more
