    Smoked salmon chowder

What seems to be a tourist trap in Hoonah is actually an incredible restaurant I'd recommend trying. Contrary to the name there is no duck rip. The recommendations of what to get is the halibut sandwich and the smoked salmon chowder. Parents said the halibut was the best bite they had (and as someone who had a bite of it, it was cooked well and had the perfect grill marks). There was a halibut pizza which was okay but had too much ranch and was a bit too gimmicky. The smoked salmon chowder was the star of the day and an Alaskan staple. They didn't skimp on the salmon which was great and it was super flavorful throughout.

Duck Point Smokehouse Restaurant was ill prepared to receive as many guests as it did! We waited in line for a ridiculous amount of time to order a beer. Then again, we had to wait in a different (long) line for another ridiculous amount of time, to order food. . I honestly couldn't believe the chaos and mismanagement that we experienced at this establishment. On a sidenote; Cecelia (working the bar) was dealing with disgruntled customers the entire time that we were there, (she did so graciously). This poor employee was being chastised for the restaurant, running out of IPAs and APAs and whatever else. The line would have moved more effectively had there been more people behind the bar. The only time we saw another employee, was when an older woman dropped by and emptied the tip container - a container that that *Cecelia had *earned by *herself. Cecelia was spectacular and the four of us in our party, hope she quits and finds a place that appreciates her. We would **positively skip this place next time.

After screaming down in cold rainy weather on the longest zipline in the world, we found ourselves in front of the Duck Point Smokehouse (adjacent to the zipline landing point) and decided to try out a few beers. We didn't order any food during our visit, so this review only focuses on beer. THE DRINKS | Variety of beers on tap. I'm sure there are other drinks, but when there's a row of beer taps sitting in front of you, it's kind of hard to see anything else. We ordered... - Cannery Red Ale | Alaskan brew by Denali Brewing Co. Malty with a nice, crisp finish. There's a slight bitterness but not overpowering. - Smash Galaxy Double IPA | By Alaskan Brewing Co. Brewed with Australian Galaxy hops and Northwest Pilsner Malt. It's quite bitter and tropical at the same time. And I say this with all IPAs... it tastes a little like weed. THE DUCK POINT SMOKEHOUSE FEELS | Situated in front of Port Frederick, there are large glass windows and a covered outdoor dining area which offer unobstructed breathtaking views of the water and surrounding mountains. There's a huge fireplace near the restaurant entrance and a modern fire pit located at the outdoor patio. The vibe is modern cabin/lodge house with a spacious dining hall.

the Halibut sandwich was the best sandwich I've ever had in my life, no question. The dill aioli made it, with perfectly cooked fresh fish

We arrived early on a cruise and since many things were not yet open we stopped for a quick drink…read moreas we were headed to another place for lunch that was not open. So after finding out that the other restaurant was not open at all that day we came back for a second time. Both times staff greeted us and told us to sit where we liked. It was a cool day but wanted to sit outside and watch the people and water. They offer a good selection of beers as well as some cocktails. (Check out the Bloody Mary!) So the first stop we ordered a flight as well as the Blueberry Mojito. The beers were good. The Blueberry Mojito was amazing. Our second stop we ordered the halibut fish and chips and seafood chowder and a beer and another mojito. The fish was cooked perfectly. Not too greasy. The chips were great. The chowder was good. Hot for a cold day and not too thick. Staff were always checking on us and made some great suggestions for the beers and food. We will stop by next time in town. This is one of our favorite places.

Went to Alaskan Brewing Public House on Franklin Street in Juneau. Right downtown by the ships. Big…read moreopen room with that high wood beam ceiling and the metal stools. Pretty packed with other cruise folks. We just got one order of fish and chips and split it. Menu says 8 ounces of Alaskan halibut in a gluten free batter they make with their lemon lime spruce tip seltzer. Came as two pieces. Batter was crisp and golden brown like it should be. Fish inside was white and flaky. Fries are the hop salt fries. Little cup of tartar and a lemon wedge. The fish was good. I will give them that. But $38 for two pieces of fish and some fries is ridiculously stupid. That is just price gouging for the cruise crowd. Really disappointed we paid that. Service was moderate at best. Nobody was rude. Nobody was all that on it either. And watch out for the birds. They have pigeons walking around on the wood floor inside the building. One was pecking crumbs right by the glass where the kegs are. They take off and flap over the tables too. Feathers and the occasional bird doo doo. There is no way somebody hasnt gotten splattered at some point. Would eat the fish again if it was half the price. Not rushing back at $38.
