Came here for the requisite King Crab because Tracy's had a line out the door and it was rainy/cold. Glad I did! Beer was delicious, had an amber. Had the crab, which was of course delicious...But the chowder was the star here!!! I'd eat that 5 times a week. The dip for our pretzel was yummy too but again, it's all about the chowder. If they kept the inside a little warmer, that would have made it a perfect time and I would have stayed for a couple more rounds. Not everyone is acclimated to the chill. They are tight when needing a seat but if your patient people tend to eat and go here. Staff super nice and offer great suggestions on beer & eats. My husband and I really wanted to have some King Crab we just got one pound of crab as we also wanted to tackle the Alaskan BBQ Sampler which is perfect to share with a side of Hop Salt Fries. We selected the whole sampler to try and I'm telling you "wow!", so good they do put a side of purple cabbage slaw on the plate which also was very good. My husband had water but me I grabbed me a flight of deliciousness I recommend the Alaskan Amber and the Ascender both very good. We had great weather and shared our meal with our fellow cruise mates that came with us to Alaska. There is a pub upfront, eatery is in back and a gift shop with tons of items to buy. read more

This place is a great stop for people getting off a cruise in Juneau. It is just steps from the pier and they have a huge outdoor seating area (the inside was packed). The crab was fresh (of course) and delicious. Their other food (brisket, mac and cheese, elk, etc.) is also good. The brisket sandwich had only a few pieces of brisket and was definitely on the smaller side. A 4% convenience fee was added to our bill. Directly off of the pier when you first arrive into port from a cruise and easy to get into. They have a bit more limited seating options, so you may need to stand until something opens up (depending on how busy it is). The aesthetic is a modern / classy bar feel. The service moved a bit slow, but it was very crowded, so not a big deal. When in Juneau, most people would go to Tracy's King Crab Shack for some Alaskan King crabs, but since our friends went to Alaskan Brewing Public House already, we decided to go there to meet up with friends and have some king crabs there as well. Since it was a brewery, we started our meal with a beer flight and all were very refreshing and tasty. There were plenty of things on the menu, but we were hungry for king crabs so that was what we got. They were so plump and juicy, totally different from anywhere else in the States. We also got the seafood chowder and it was ok. Overall experience was just ok. The food and drinks were great, but service was pretty meh. We didn't know we could just sit ourselves and waited around the door. We had to ask the bar to find out about the seating. After we sat down, no one attended us for a long while, to a point we went to the bar again and asking if we needed to order there. A server eventually came over but wasn't all that friendly. She was plenty friendly to other tables and even helped them to crack the crab legs. We made a comment and we believe she heard us because she came to our table to crack the crab legs right after that. Service aside, we would say this spot was a good alternative if Tracy's got packed for the king crabs. Not restaurant related, but our friends left before we even got there. Right off the piers of the cruise ships, Alaskan brewing has a big sign up that you can't miss. You'll find the place with the traditional brew house feel. Pricing here does suffer from the 'tourist tax' and you can feel it in the beers and food. From the pictures, you can see the menu of foods can easily clear ~$20 and beers ~$10. Service was hit or miss, its one of those 'seat yourself and hope a staffer will see you'. We got some waffle fries with some cheese dip and some chowder. We also paid $25 for a skillet of mac and cheese with some burnt ends. Baby loved it, except for the slow burn of the burnt ends. Luckily she's a trooper and mellowed the spice down with more mac and cheese. I only got one brew to finish off the food. Overall good place, but pricy thanks to the tourist tax. We ordered the clam chowder and king crab legs--the chowder was rich and flavorful, and the crab legs were perfectly cooked. This was one of the best I've drank. The service was excellent. Skyler, our waitress, was very friendly and helpful. She even helps us out when we were struggling with the King Crab. Skyler did a tremendous job with everything. Alaskan Brewing is an excellent place to hang out, with delicious food and tasty drinks. I love the outdoor patio, overlooking the seaside and mountains. Ended up here in a pinch because they were open on the holiday. We tried the BBQ sampler; the meat and salmon was really good. We wanted a vegetable on the side but all they had was two underwhelming salads and a corn "salad". When we asked to modify the corn salad (no onion and dressing on the side), we were told that it was a "no go" and that this establishment was designed for quick service for cruise goers who are coming and going quickly. I'm so disappointed! I went to this location because it was so close and walkable to the cruise ship's port. I greatly regret just getting an Uber further out to the bigger, better version of this brewery. My friend and I sat down at a tall four top table (they also have a proper bar if you are solo) and eventually a bartender came over and gave us menus then asked what we wanted. No words exchanged and just the whole time service was so subpar. I am a beer geek and love going to breweries for the chill vibes and awesome beer-tenders. Unfortunately service doesn't seem important to them here. I get it's probably geared to tourists but there should still be some level of kindness. I thought the ambiance was really cute inside but I honestly never felt welcome so couldn't enjoy a single good vibe. I was also disappointed that in the beer selection. I was so excited to Untappd some cool Alaskan Brewing beers right in Juneau, Alaska at the brewery! But no...they had very few options so I went with the underwhelming Imperial IPA (Pilot Series). In what world am I ever underwhelmed by a IIPA but somehow it happened with this 8.5% brew with me giving it just 3 bottlecaps on Untappd. Bizzare. If you are a beer person, learn from my mistake. I know walking less than 5 minutes for an Alaskan beer seems appealing, and sure do that if you are a casual drinker. But if you are serious about your beer, just get the 15 minute Uber to the main tasting room. I just looked and they have EIGHTEEN beers on tap including some very unique and cool sounding options. The snacks also hit the spot on a cold, rainy day in Juneau. When the rest of our group arrived, we decided to try this place for dinner since we were already familiar with it. Our group tried the clam chowder (yum!), the smash burger (yummy x2) and the BBQ plate. We were all happy with our selection. Came here for lunch on one of the rare sunny days in Juneau. If you have limited time (I.e., 1 hour) I would not recommend coming here. Service is all over the place, there were people who came later than us who got waited on earlier. We had to flag someone down and when we did he told us, "not right now I'm doing something." I wanted to leave but my mom wanted to stay. When the waiter did come we ordered and everything came relatively fast. While we were waiting I noticed that pretty much every table around us got at least one wrong order and sent their food back. The food is overpriced for what it is but I've never been here before so wanted to try it out. The sandwiches don't come with fries so $17 for a basic sandwich with no fries is a bit ridiculous. The fries were a bit pale and the corn salad could've done with a bit more seasoning. The chowder was great and the brisket sandwich was good too and had just a bit of a kick which was nice. All in all, decent food for Juneau. For the prices and service I wouldn't come back, it's definitely a tourist location. You can get cheaper/better fish and chips at deckhand Dave's down the street.
