Some of the packages had frost inside them, indicating that they were not sealed properly or were old. The fish itself was thin & loaded with pin bones that I removed by hand. There was a fishy smell and no smokiness. There was no brininess. After a single bite, I discarded the entire batch, contacted Alaska Seafood Company and they sent me a second batch which was slightly better than the first; "D" instead of "F" but still unacceptable. Weird color, thin, dry, smelly, bony, no smokiness, no brininess. I ended up junking everything after another single bite. I contacted the company again, this time recommending -- as politely as I could -- that they relearn the smoked salmon process,, but never heard back. (I had a local teacher in mind but they seemed disinterested.) These two batches were the worst smoked salmon -- by far -- that I've ever had.

They use what is considered the best species of salmon for smoking----King Salmon. In addition, they smoke their salmon with alderwood which many people say is the best smoking wood. The rich, sweet taste of their salmon is incredible and much higher in omega 3s than farm raised salmon. Great service, quality processing materials freezer vacuum bags, waxed fish shipping boxes, and freezer storage accommodations. Tanya went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of. They carry t-shirts, sweatshirts, glasses, mugs, beer handles, coasters, towels, stickers, dog toys and treats, and so forth. We picked up a few coasters and a tshirt. Staff were friendly. Ambiance was warm and inviting. And, right next door is their Alaskan Brewing Co Public House where you can sit down, try a beer or two, and some food!

It's very close to where the cruise ships dump off the boat people but...you kind of have to know about this place to spot it. Regardless, I loved the beers here. I appreciated that they had a selection lagers in addition to the ales-only taps at many breweries. Bonus: there is often a friendly cat in here and...depending on who is working, a friendly dog as well! NOTE: this is a 2nd location of the outstanding brewery in Sitka, your eyes do not deceive you! Apparently the brewers of both spots have some autonomy though, so the taps should be unique between the two!

I'm a sucker for brewery mascot pets and they have a brewery cat. The cat was curled up most of the time under the blankets but made an appearance to perch next to the couch. Bartender was super friendly and chatted with us about his favorites and gave us samples. It was a perfect visit for a rainy June afternoon!
