The whole atmosphere; friendly service; very helpful; books are organized. They had a display of local artists. I had read a book by a local artist, and I was looking to see if he had written his second book. They previously went by another name; I can't think of it right now. read more

I try to stop in an independent bookstore in every town throughout my travels to purchase my books. I prefer to find favorite bookstores then stop in each direction when I'm traveling by car and this place is one of my new favorites! I drove out of my way (from freeway) for this bookstore and town after finding it on Yelp and it was very worth the added travel time. I wish I'd had more time yesterday so I focused on the displayed fiction but what an amazing selection and so wonderfully organized and displayed. Whether you have an afternoon or just a free moment, the layout here makes it easy to find something you'll love. It was a Friday morning so very quiet. Gentleman at the register put on a mask when I entered and the store feels extremely clean and well kept. I love books so I love the feeling of a bookstore that's obviously much beloved by its owner(s) and employees. read more

I have been wanting to stop into this book store for a while! We were wandering around downtown during First Fridays in Columbia and decided to finally go in! They had a very large variety of new and used books. A little something everyone! Their checkout desk is actually made of real books! So cool! They also had a loft area with a spiral staircase that lead up the horror and sci-fi books. I didn't find a book for me this time, mostly because I wanted like 20 of them, but I will definitely be back when I'm in more of a decisive mood. Haha. They also have an online store! Charming local bookstore on Public Square in Columbia. As an avid reader, I make it a point to stop at as many independent bookstores as I can when traveling. On a recent day trip from Nashville to explore the Columbia area, I stopped at The Old Curiosity Book Shop. It has new and used books and a small area of local author books. This place is so awesome! A rare gem of a shop in a cozy town square that is absolutely worth the drive! Inviting, clean, fun, and creative! New and formerly loved books galore!!!! The owners are great and really take the time to chat with their customers and help find what they are looking for. It is hard to find a place like this and I am so glad I have. I really, really love this book store! I come into this bookstore in between classes and/or after classes get out. They have a wide selection of books to offer. They have books that I've never seen before. The owners are really nice. If you can't find a book your looking for the owner James will look for it for you and order if you want. read more

The Old Curiosity Book Shop is a fantastic find! As soon as you walk in, the old school charm of this trendy place greets you with a smile. The clean lines inside invite you to have a look see at an enormous selection of books they have to offer. I'm not a huge reader. I like to read mind you, but, have never really been the girl with a book. This place makes me want to read! They have a cool layout that makes it easy to find your favorite book from a wide selection of whatever genre you're looking for. The selections are aplenty. There's even a sweet, little book nook set up for the little ones, complete with a sky of white lights and an array of shelved adventures just waiting to be found. The owners are happy to help you find what you're looking for, and have a great sense of humor! I HIGHLY recommend a visit. The ambiance will attract you, and the book selections will keep you interested. But, the charm...that charm of a local book shop, run by friendly locals, will defintely keep you coming back for more. read more

Not child friendly! I went in here to browse for books with my four year old. He was being generally well behaved besides the few excited exclamations about what he was seeing. We ended up picking out two books for him. There was zero pleasant interaction from the cashier. He looked around the side of the counter to see what she was doing (children are curious!) and she snapped at him, "No!". He was never in her space or rude. He came back to my side saw his books on the counter and reached for them and she shoved them right at him while rolling her eyes and looking appalled. I should have asked for a refund. This is not a family or pleasant atmosphere. For a store that is on a city square (and family run) you'd think it would be more inviting. I think i'll just keep ordering from amazon. read more
