Upon arrival, we were greeted friendly by the cashier who told us about current sales and new products. Every inch of this store is visually pleasing, unique, and classy. I have purchased a few home decor pieces and plants from Smith and York, and am always pleased by the quality and selection offered. The owner selected such a cohesive and stylish collection of products and rotates new items in and out constantly. They also have a sister store next door focusing on kitchen and tabletop products called, Gather Kitchen Mercantile. Both are such a joy to visit and just an honor to have in downtown Columbia.

The people there have always been really nice, and I've never had a bad service experience. I'd say a lot of what they sell is worth the money, but true antique/vintage things like what they sell are not always going to be "cheap". Although, I have found many great items selling for low prices! I love to come in here with my best friend after we go out to breakfast somewhere in town, and it's definitely a true antique store with authentic antique items!! I've gotten a couple Precious Moments from here and a collectible Harley Davidson Barbie for my sibling as a gift. I also found a really cute cookbook that me and my friend share for only $3. I'm always up for an adventure, (as if my eye thing wasn't adventure enough) especially with any of my girls. Sure enough I said as she pulled into Treasure Village. Right from the get go I knew this place was going to be good. It had that musty smell. You know that smell when you walk into grandma's old house? Come to think of it, when I was young, and I first smelled that smell, I thought that it was grandma. But I soon found that It was old gold just waiting to be rediscovered. After poking around a bit I stumbled upon a real cool huge glass bottle. I've always wanted one of those. I said "hey Missy, check this out" I know, she replied as she was talking to a clerk. She spied it before I did. She was attempting to negotiate the price to a more favorable proposition. The clerk said that she'd have to call the gentleman who is selling it. So we went on with our treasure hunt. This store has a lot of twists and turns, ups and downs in it. Stuff is everywhere. Search closely to uncover a special find. We did and we found. I lost track of Missy somewhere in the labyrinth of rooms and aisles. When we met up again it was by the front counter. I asked if she heard from the seller of the big bottle. Missy said "I sure did daddy, happy father's day!" That girl made the deal and I am now the proud owner of a 13 gallon glass bottle. I love that girl! What am I going to do with it you ask? I'm going to fill it with coins of course. My 5 gallon bottle is full. Quick Tip: Be careful going up and down the stairs going up to the second floor. The steps are about half as wide as normal stairs are. I told my granddaughter that they were like this because back in the day women wore hoop skirts and had to go down the stairs sideways. Oh grandpa she said. Those are my favorite words.

We decided to stay local this Record Store Day, an event each year where artists release exclusive,…read morecollector vinyl that can only be purchased in local record shops. For this event, the store was open with extended hours starting at 8am. We arrived early to have a good spot in line with other record connoisseurs. Upon opening, the staff came out to welcome everyone who had waited hours for opening and thanked each of us. When we got inside, my dad and I were able to browse through the RSD collections in nicely alphabetized bins. The event was nicely organized and patrons were filed in calmly and quickly. We were able to get everything we had hoped to purchase for RSD-- and more. It was truly such a great time, and my dad and I enjoyed making memories at this event together. While inside, we had the honor of talking to Charlie behind the counter. He is truly the face of Variety Records making us feel welcome, sharing his knowledge for not only Vinyl but the ins-and-outs of Record Store Day, and managing to still converse with each customer during what I would assume to be their busiest day of the year. He was fabulous and even remembered us the next time we came in the shop. They have a wide variety of new, used, and new-vintage vinyl records and cds. We left with seven albums combined and both found things we were excited to listen to. We will be back soon!

The shop owner is friendly and helpful, and helped me find what I was looking for. The store is well organized and easy to navigate too. I'll definitely revisit Variety Records next time I'm in Columbia.
