Owner is an old white dude who is a complete a**hole. We were welcomed with passive aggressive comments stating that all the cheap stuff was in the front, after being there for a few minutes and gathering some items of interest that he didn't see, he questioned why we didn't have things in our hand to purchase. He continued to be pushy, not listen and answer our questions correctly, and even came into my personal space and then said excuse me passively. As an avid record collector looking for a new local shop, I was aware of bad reviews, but wanted to give him and his shop a chance, but nope. Never again will I come here and will actively deter friends and family from spending their money here. And to top it off, all the prices were overpriced. Plus, it's a terrible sign when a record store had a small international section and lump every random shit together. Overall, he continued to make us uncomfortable and I even left the store early. read more

The owner is miserable. My young kids were excited about the store and 1 touched a bobblehead. He yelled "don't touch that". Fine, I understand. I told my kids to stay away and don't touch anything. And took them out of the store because it was clear he didn't want kids in the store. As I'm leaving he tells him employee "I would have slapped the sh** out of them". I've Been here a handfull of times and I've never experienced the "pushy" attitude that a few people seem to write about in their reviews. Every time I've been given a warm welcome and I've never had a bad experience regarding costumer service. The shop is on the smaller side but they have a decent selection of rock,jazz,blues adn everything in betweeen. The shop is not far from my job so me and my manager like to come here if we have down time.I personally lean towards more obscure and underground metal so I don't always come out with a bag full of things but there's always something to take home. overall, It's a nice little local shop and Torrance doesn't many of them so give them a shot and support local businesses. read more

Popped in yesterday to check this store out. It has a huge selection of rock albums that are well sorted. Lots of new issues with a good assortment of used records too. Although I did not find what I was looking for (early pressing of DSOTM and/or a 75-77 pressing of Led Zep 1) I did find a few records on my Discogs want list. Nice people too. Great record store! As soon as we walked in we were greeted, asked if we were looking for anything special. We just looked around, they had so many cool records. Everything from Led Zeplin to Billy Idol. All around the shop they had band T's and Posters for sale. This stuff was a rockers dream. Sold some cool stickers too. We bought some stickers. Everything was a reasonable price. Guys running the shop were chill and helpful. I'll be back, and recommend others support small business' like this one. read more

This is great vintage vinyl shop that recently opened. More than just a vast array of records, they also have tons of CDs, posters, stickers, t-shirts, you name it... As a long time collector of vinyl, I truly vouch for this store as their selection is vast and their prices are reasonable. For those of you who do or do not know the South Bay, this shop is located in the shopping complex on the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Anza. As it is in the shopping complex, there is a large parking lot in front of the shop, so parking is never a problem. The owner is very knowledgeable about his vinyl and has been in the business for a long time. I am told he first operated a shop in Portland before eventually opening his shop here in Torrance. So, you know you will get the kind of service that you need. What is also unique about the shop is that the owner is willing to search out products that you desire. From this, if there something you've been looking for, forever - forever, he may be able to find it for you. Overall, great place to find that vinyl, CD, and/or other music memorabilia. read more

I purchased a record here as a gift a couple of weeks ago. It was rather expensive, compared to other listings and stores selling the same album. It was brand new wrapped in the package so I was pretty content, knowing it was worth the purchase. When I opened it, one of the sides was completely warped. I didn't want to pay so much for a brand new record that was not in good condition. So, I went back to the store and kindly told them the situation, and they gave me a new one with their apologies. I got home and the new record was warped as well. I understand I should have checked the records in the store to see their condition, but I trusted the employees that a brand new, inside the package record would not be warped. I also understand that most of these records are shipped from across the world, so delivery can be bumpy. There's no real way of seeing if these records are damaged before selling them. I just don't appreciate that for the price of a new pressed record they sold, both of them ended up being warped. Selling damaged records for that high of a price wasn't a good experience. read more

Employees were so rude and acted like I didn't exist. I was completely shocked and appalled when I read the response to some of these reviews!!!!!!! I mean every single one he is claiming the customer telling the story is lying, seems like that's just not the case. He is the common denominator in all of these reviews. I can't believe a business is getting away with treating customers like this. Completely unprofessional. Plenty of better shops around with employees who are actually kind! This review is long overdue - I came in around Christmas time to pick up gifts for my uncle and his daughter. I know very little about records but they are both vinyl enthusiasts. The store seemed to have a pretty good selection of oldies, rock and lots of modern records to choose from. I asked the younger gentleman who seems to be the owner's nephew a few questions about specific records and he was helpful. No complaints there. After gifting my uncle the record (which was brand new), he noticed that the hole on the first record (side A/B) was small and it did not fit onto multiple record players he owns (he had never experienced this before so I'm guessing this is not common). Side C/D was fine (I will attempt to upload the videos to compare). I called the store back and spoke to the younger gentleman who was immediately defensive and said he had "never heard of such a thing." He passed the phone to the older gentleman who I will presume is the owner (did not get either of their names) and he was immediately rude and defensive asking about "what kind of record player he has" because he's "never heard of such a thing in his life" as if he assumed I was lying. After all, he said that if I brought the record in with the receipt, they would take a look. My uncle and his daughter decided to go themselves because they were "excited to visit a record store they hadn't yet heard of" as they are really avid collectors and love to support small businesses in different areas around LA. They went in the same day with a picture of the receipt I had sent them and the record. They were met with the the older gentleman being rude and condescending. He tested the record on the player in-store and said that since the record fit fine and since the record had already been opened, he would not be accommodating a return or exchange. I completely understand that they have certain policies in place to avoid losing money as a small business and that the manufacturing error was not their fault. But their complete lack of tact and lack of customer service cost them at least three repeat customers and even more money in the long run. I spent ~$100 at the store, and almost $40 just on one brand new record just to be met with contempt and to have my family members experience the same when they went out of their way to try and support them. My uncle and cousin are avid record enthusiasts and would have gladly returned to spend even more money there if they had been *at the very least* met with some kind of compromise, store credit, or something to try to make it right. There are plenty of record stores in LA that will not treat you this way or leave snarky replies on genuine reviews from customers. All in all, good selection (at least for my liking) and it's in a good area with lots of shopping around but not worth the subpar treatment. read more

Went for the first time recently and loved it - great selection (found my favorite Emmylou Harris record that was out of print). I tend to browse quietly on my own, but Bill and Jesse were really cool. Prices are very competitive. I see some complaints about this, but vinyl isn't mass produced and a significant amount of modern records have to be pressed on double LPs. If you like quality sound and supporting local business, I highly recommend Dudley's. read more

My first experience at Dudley's Records was outstanding to say the least. Bill Dudley and his staff go above and beyond the standard of Customer Satisfaction. My daughter and I walked in and immediately felt at home just as if we were with family. They are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, full of smiles and they aim to please. The atmosphere is phenomenal as well as the selection. My experience was about 3 weeks ago and it so warm and welcoming that my intention was to review them right away. Unfortunately my busy schedule took over. So let this review serve as a testament to how pleased I was with my visit and their service. Keep up the great work guys. My family will see you soon. Hidden record store nicely tucked away in a corner. The guy who was working there today was very friendly and helpful. They have a wide selection of vinyls and cds which are all reasonably priced. Good atmosphere and they also practice social distancing, so only 5 people are allowed in at a time. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I was very excited when Dudley's opened in my neighborhood as I love digging for records, but don't often have the time to drive up to LA to shop. I've been in many times, and the occasional finds in the bins fit a certain need in my record buying routine so I kept coming back. Recently I visited a few stellar record stores on my travels around LA and out of town, and the contrast between those great experiences and this one spurred me to finally write a review. Selection: They have a pretty good selection of 1980's KROQ and classic rock standards on hand. There's a reasonable jazz selection, but recent indie releases are sparse if not completely absent. I'd say it's a pretty middle-of-the-road selection that caters to the locals who are getting back into vinyl after dumping their collection for CDs in the 90's and want to buy the music they enjoyed in their youth. I get it. They're stocking the music that sells, and you can't fault that. If you're looking for the more unusual or rare there won't be much to satisfy your curiosity there. They do have some bargain bins near the front that are worth digging through, but the stock doesn't turn over very quickly. Pricing: A little on the high side. Bargain bin is $3-$5 range. Although this looks good when the local Salvation Army sells Perry Cuomo garbage for $3.99 (I need to write a review on that...), there are still stores out there that have $1-$2 bargain bins. New stock and more popular used records (say, Bowie or Queen) are a bit more than you'll pay on Discogs or Amazon. I get the economics--this is an expensive neighborhood and I believe in supporting local businesses, so I don't think they're gouging or anything. If you want to pay less, it just takes some effort on your part. Vibe: The vibe is really what spurred me to write a review. I visited a few stores recently that reminded me what a five-star record store experience is like. Usually that involves great service and/or great conversation with the owner or clerk that leads to some discovery on my part. It also includes hearing some mind bending music played from the store's vinyl stock at a high volume, and sometimes being blown away by finding some rare record you've never seen in the wild before at a reasonable price. I've been in this store many times, and I've never had any of those experiences here. Sure, they're playing music, but it's probably the Beatles on CD played through a Victrola all-in-one in the corner. There are no listening stations to listen before buying. To be fair, I've seen people interact with the staff and come away very happy, but my interactions have generally focused on the owner's complaints about the land lord or credit card transaction fees. They've never shown much if any curiosity about what I am looking for, even though I'm a familiar face. So, I've come to see Dudley's as a necessary place in the vinyl ecosystem that is filling a need for many people. It's kind of a gateway for people dabbling in or just getting started in their vinyl hobby. For serious collectors that are looking for a great vibe while they spend hours digging through bins it falls short of expectations. The store is a reflection of the (my) neighborhood. Stores in Portland or Highland Park have much more eclectic stock because that's what people are into there. As a consumer, you just need to go to the place that fits your interests best. read more

I have been procrastinating to write this review but needless to say I will never be coming back here again. While walking into the store we were not greeted in a friendly matter. The replies to other reviews should say enough, and they honestly make me laugh. I will not stand for intolerance and impatience in customer service. Do your job and do better. Being here made me extremely uncomfortable with the rude staff and I'm surprised I decided to buy something "anyways". Quoted since my English is "improper". On the topic of that, "Mr. Dudley". He enjoys to insult strangers and defend his business on bad Yelp reviews. Not friendly at all. Didn't welcome me or acknowledge me and I was literally the only one in the store. Both employees were eating and had food spread out all over the counter I had to move to look at stuff under the glass. Records were way over priced and poor selection. Finally found one, went to pay for it and they wouldn't let me use a card for a purchase under $20?? Also neither had on a mask then asked me to put one on don't waste your time here. Nice new little gem in the south bay! If you are a vintage lover or just a casual browser I guarantee you will be able to find something that will spark your interest! The owner/manager has a nice collection of vintage mostly used but some new: cassets, vinyl, CD's, books, posters, tshirts, stickers, memorabilia, and toys. There is a nice vibe inside, it feels very relaxing to just browse - not like bigger music stores. And of course it smells like vintage vinyl :) He has a lot of the popular artists names written on dividers alphabetized and a $1 bin on the floor for not-so gently used records and cd's. Also to note- if you are hunting for something you don't see, he can order it for you to pick up at the store. I know in the modern day of Amazon prime, we can have anything almost immediately but it is good to know this is an option. Plus, it feels nice to support local small businesses which is so important in their early days. We will be back! read more

Dudley's is far and away my favorite record store in LA. This hidden gem has an excellent selection of vintage vinyl and the prices are competitive. I was recently in search of a vintage copy of KISS "Love Gun" with the cardboard Love Gun insert still intact and Bill FOUND IT! Bill took the time to research and find this rare copy. The album was a Christmas gift for a friend who was stoked when he opened it. The album was in MINT condition and played flawlessly. Thank You to Bill and everyone at Dudley's! The store it's self is pretty cool, I love supporting local businesses but I won't be going back. My first time in and last. I really wanted to like this place but the customer service was terrible. I asked one of the employees where some artists might be because they were organized strangely. He seemed very annoyed I interrupted him to ask where I might find some items like I should already know.
