I've had a Duff time convincing people that Duff's are no good. So many people love them. Personal Experience: I've only been to this location once. The one on Sheridan - maybe 10 times. They're both as utterly bad as each other. I am really so not into them. They are overly spicy and vinegary with little butter, tastes like someone just poured Frank's Hot Sauce on them. They're small and insanely overpriced. They are nothing like the great wings of Buffalo. They're usually lukewarm and not even crispy - I think they may sometimes be microwaved. Buffalo has the best chicken wings on earth. But for some bizarre reason, the true palaces of wings are underrated and unknown, while the two most famous local spots are mediocre at best. Duff's is not the original, but is many people's favourite place for chicken wings. This is a great place to go to get some traditional Buffalo Wings and they are some of the best I've had. I also love that they bring out a bone bucket so you don't have to keep the bones on your plate while you continue to eat. We got a large fry and it was more than enough for the whole table. I went to this place based on a real life recommendation and then quickly checked Yelp to see if there was agreement. Really don't know how this place got a reputation for great wings. They are hit or miss at best. Ours were at least cooked properly this time, but they were DROWNED in way too much not-that-great sauce. Both the BBQ and hot had the same problem. We had a side room mostly to ourselves, complete with games and air-hockey. The kids had a great time, and the service was really prompt and friendly. Wings were provided by the host; since that didn't work for me as a VEGETARIAN, I ordered a Greek salad with pita wedges. I ordered the medium ("hot" on the menu) and it tasted like any other standard buffalo-style wings. Maybe a little tangier, but I didn't really see it as anything special. They were crispy, tender, and well cooked, but I wasn't too floored away by them. The bleu cheese sauce was excellent -- I added a little bit of horse raddish and thought it complimented the wings' mellow spice very well. Meanwhile, the Roast Beef on Weck was sublime. Easily the best roast beef sandwich I've ever had. The meat was tender and juicy, the roll had just the right amount of salt and was soft and toasted. The gravy au jus was perfect for the bun and a bit of horseradish gave just the right amount of tanginess that made the sandwich perfect. Really, it is one of the top ten things I've eaten this year. By the time the Illini game was over (3OT loss to Michigan, dammit), we had already been there for an hour and a half and had been sitting at the bar for a while. They didn't seem to mind. I am sorry to say this but Duff's was one of the biggest disappointments of my life. For years I had heard that Duff's produces the greatest wings in the world. Every food eating site, wing loving site, everything I heard proclaimed them the champs amongst all others. Now maybe I had let the myth grow to big in my head, maybe I had set myself up for failure, or maybe Duff's just isn't all that. Something was off from the start. Right when I stepped out of my car. The air didn't smell like fried deliciousness or spicy buffalo wings. No it smelled like fried weird honey mustard or some unusual wing sauce concoction. My fears only esclated as I penetrated the doors. Was the some kind of Hooters rip off or did Duff's sell out? I was confused, alarmed, and shocked. None of this was matching the myth I had created. The menu featured a bunch of sauces I wasn't expecting, and the wings seemed way overpriced. Whatever I thought these will be worth it. They weren't. Don't get me wrong Duff's puts out a solid wing. I like my wings saucy, and I like them crispy, check to both. What I don't like is a soup bowl full of sauce. Seriously it was a lot of sauce, way way too much. The sauce had good heat and I will say that their general slogan of Hot is Hotter and so forth is correct. I don't care that your hot is slighty hotter then a normal hot. The wings missed something, and I wish I knew what. The tater tots served with my wings were as boring as boring could get. All of this is incredibly tough for me to say. The loaded tots were FANTASTIC. I loved them. The wings were good - saucy and hot. The fingers I ordered "light medium" and they were way too spicy for me. I could only eat 2 of them. I love spicy food, but even the light medium was too hot. So be careful ordering anything with sauce and pay attention to the warnings everywhere. I should have ordered the mild. The restaurant was busy but not packed, which was not surprising based on the time of day. Despite not being at the bar, service was very prompt. I ordered the "Weck and Wings" combo which included the Beef on Weck sandwich and an order of wings with blue cheese and celery. You don't come here and get a salad without some regret. With that said, they do it right. I say: Duff's! - which is not to say that I dislike Anchor Bar. Duff's (both locations) serves up VERY GOOD wings (marginally better than and definitely saucier/tangier than Anchor Bar) in a sports bar atmosphere with early 90s NFL/NHL/MLB/and NASCAR (yuck) decor. The wings are big and the sauce is tangy/saucy/flavorful/not overly salty (despite some Yelper complaints to the contrary). I like wings dripping in sauce (some purists don't) and I also appreciate the fact that their hot sauce IS actually hot! Also, as a draft beer lover (currently suffering through my Lenten sacrifice of NO BOOZE), I give their "on tap" beer selection an emphatic two thumbs up!
