I'm not someone who can handle heat, so the medium wings leave me feeling uncomfortable - little bit of sweat, the realization that your lips are burning and no amount of celery, fries, or soda (yes, soda!) is going to save you, but you should know this: Not all Duff's in Buffalo are created equal! I can't speak to the heat, but these wings are sauced well, but they are not always consistent in the way they taste, which is really my only beef with Duff's. Sometimes the same wing might taste different week to week. I frequent Duff's on Dick Road quite a bit as a part of the "Friday night" out dinner rotation, and can say that they consistently put out some nice wings. After about 5 years of living in this particular area, I can only think of one time where something on the menu disappointed, and it was a french fry order that was cooked in some old oil. Normally their fries are pretty darn good - throw some salt on them and they're a perfect heat cancellation if you find yourself taking on a sauce that's a LITTLE too hot for you. The rest of the menu is probably about what you'd see at any other wing place. They serve pepsi products, which for me is preferred with wings, but their mozz sticks are also a good treat! Attentive waitresses, not very rowdy bar, and enough tvs and seating to fit large parties will leave you wanting to come to this location over the original Duff's, especially with the nicer seating outside with the better weather! First off, Duff's Buffalo Wings are THE best. Anchor Bar can only claim to be the first to serve them. Anyone can make hot wings. However, very few places make hot wings that also taste good - Duff's does! Not really sure how to rate this place. Duff's started as a cultural institution and one-of-a-kind place to the Buffalo area and afterward blew up in popularity as one of the places that invented the classical Buffalo chicken wing and now is a small franchise around the Western NY area going as far north as Toronto. The expectations when you go to places like this are high and this particular spot is famous for President Obama coming to get take out wings here and there's even pictures of him on the wall with the staff and kissing a baby. And as far as the wings go, they are pretty good. Crispy, good size and with some nice flavors...but when it comes to the best chicken wing in Buffalo, a lot of pubs do it better. For instance, Mooney's, Nine-Eleven Tavern or Bar Bill..they also have a lot more character than a place like Duff's. You go into Duff's and it seems bland -- nothing special with the walls, or the tables or even the bar area. Not a huge amount of beers on tap, all in all pretty average. Although I have to say the service is really great. The bartender who was working today was really sweet and so was the hostess who seated us. The people who work at this place are great and it's only a 5minute drive from the airport. If we had time, I would have taken my coworker to Bar Bill or Nine-Eleven Tavern instead, but we didn't so we had to opt for the next best thing or have her being stuck eating at Anchorbar at the airport. And the wings are good, but not cheap. It comes to about $18 for 20 wings -- almost at $1 per wing (and over $1 per wing if you include tax and tip), but hey -- they have the brand to charge as much as they do. But if you've been around Buffalo long enough, you know the secret that neither Duff's nor Anchorbar actually live up to the hype or expectations which have been set upon them and a lot of local bars blow their wings out of the water. read more

Since we're visiting the city for the very first time, we were yelping the restaurants to find some good buffalo wings. To be honest we fell for the word "famous" lol. They have different locations, and we decided to try the nearest one to our hotel. The place has very cool outside sitting area. We got one table, ordered our 20 piece special and started to wait. I must say that service was quick. Indeed, we received the wings in less than 5 minutes which means that they don't cook when you order but keep them ready.. I am not sure if they have to tossed it for a certain period of time but if I knew that, I wouldn't order. Cuz you feel that they have been sitting there for hours.. The whole place has warnings saying that "medium" is hot, but even medium light was way TOO HOT for us! I swear it made our eyes water once we smell it! Maybe it's just us, but we normally eat spicy stuff and use a lot in our cuisine. Anyway, it was sooo hot that we had to clean the sauce on the wings with napkins lmao. That kinda hot made my stomach really upset, so I couldn't eat more than 3 pieces and had to order grilled cheese. It was okay/average, nothing special about it, can be found at anywhere else. I was actually still gonna give the place 4 stars, cuz as I said, it's maybe just about my appetite but then our waitress just brought the check on the middle of our dinner! We came in here for a late lunch - I ordered the Medium Hot wings - you get 10 wings. The menu points out that these are "Hot" wings. The wings came out fairly quickly. I requested a side of hot sauce to dip my wings in, in addition to the blue cheese. It must be that I like really hot food. Because these wings were so not hot from a spice level perspective. Not too many caraway seeds. Not too chewy. Just the right proportion of roll to beef. Hot, fresh horseradish. Good flavor. Tender, lightly seasoned beef. Mild jus. A fine sandwich. Bit we don't come to Duff's primarily for the beef on a weck. The wings: my favorite (the Inn Between in Geneseo used to have my favorite, but they also had 2 dollar pitchers of Genny and ten cent wings, and lots of attractive young students to spend time with). Duff's are crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside and just hot enough to clear your head (medium hot here is pretty darned hot elsewhere). Am I un-Buffalonian? Do I just not like wings? I will say that I do love wings and I will say the wings were pretty meaty and cooked well, but I lower my rating by 2 stars for 2 reasons. First, my favorite type of wings are BBQ. I've had really good BBQ at many different bars, taverns and restaurants around Buffalo, but I did not enjoy the BBQ sauce at all, I mean it was OK, but nothing at all what I was hoping for when I was sitting, waiting for the BBQ wings. The sauce was just different, I guess I would call it too sweet, which is weird because I do love sweet foods, but it was almost too sweet with not enough tanginess to make it the BBQ sauce I was desiring. I'm sure some of their other sauces are good and some may say BBQ wings are not Buffalonian, you should stick to mild, medium or hot, but BBQ is what I like. The second thing was the cost. We did order 50 wings which cost $45 and then split it in half so that wasn't too bad, but if you get the smaller orders many are over a dollar a wing. I understand they have the brand name, and they have a following so they can increase the price, and I get that sometimes you do need to pay more for good food, but it did seem a little pricey, when I've been to many a places with cheaper. I can see where many people would enjoy coming to Duff's and I would certainly go back if other people suggested the place, but I wouldn't seek it out if looking for wings, as the BBQ were just too much of a disappointment. read more

I would have liked just a dry rub of seasonings since my favourite wasn't offered! The customary vegetable sticks of carrots and celery came with the wings. Normally I eat them both, however, the carrots had a chemically scent to them ... could not a stomach it. Other than that, the wings were good and plump! I've live south of Buffalo my whole life. I've experienced the wing craze since it's start and saw it grow into a fowl empire (pun intended). Wings I western New York are better than anywhere else in the world, no question. The tea question is where does Duff's rank? There wings are really good, maybe in the top 5 that I've ever had. They are unique from the normal population of wings with a slightly crispy texture and sauce that is flavorful and hotter than most (scale medium to hot is one notch higher in every category). I did enjoy the wings and would definitely have them again. I also had a cup of chili to accompany my wings. It was great, meaty and spicy. It was actually a great way to open up the senses and prepare for the spicy wings. This location is starting to show some aging. Attention is needed and appears to be in process as I write this. I'll give this a positive as they are not resting on their laurels. This one is a short and easy drive from the Buffalo airport. If you're in the area, I would recommend this over the Anchor bar or Buffalo Wild Wings. That is unless you want the original (Anchor Bar) or want a loud, gimmicky, sports bar with lots of TVs with a chain feel (Buffalo Wild Wings). read more
