After hanging out with friends at another place, we were hungry and found Blue Bull Tavern, which was close to the hotel where I was staying (Fairfield Inn & Suites). They had a Wednesday night wing special 10 wings for $10, so I got an order of wings with BBQ sauce. I also ordered a salad for balance. My friend got a burger and a beer. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The food was EXCELLENT. It really hit the spot. The wings were so good, I wished I had gone there again before leaving town. The Chicken tenders were really good. They are hand dipped and real fresh chicken breats meat not pre-formed shaped chicken. The honey mustard was also very good as a dipping. My husband did not like his Steak salad as the steak was cheap and not good quality. They had one waitress/bar tender for the entire place and there were several customers on our visit so service was slow but only because she was so busy with so many customers to cover and tend bar. (Last visited 11/2/2020.) While working in Buffalo and staying at the Staybridge Inn & Suites Amherst there was a restaurant I could see out of my window, just calling me, night after night. So I checked out their menu and saw the option of having grilled wings instead of the traditional method of frying. I was already a fan before I ever stepped foot in the restaurant. Here's how the rest went. Atmosphere/Appearance: It's a sports bar. Nothing crazy or super special to write home about. It was clean, neat, tidy and a very well kept sports bar. Once in the entrance and through the vestibule there are booths to the left and to the right. The bar wraps around the center coming from the back of the restaurant over to the right near the front. It was never too busy on any of the nights I went, but I'm sure it gets busy on say... a Friday night happy hour or later weekend night since this place is very close to the University of Buffalo. Service: I can't remember the names of the ladies who took care of me, but they were always so friendly and helpful. One of the cooks even popped his head out of the kitchen to say hi to me and to ensure that I had the best food you're gonna get in Buffalo. Lol. I appreciated that nod of confidence. Food: So throughout my visits I had a chance to try 3 of their wing flavors along with their Greek salad, which I added grilled chicken to. The food fired on all cylinders every time I went. I could eat there night after night, but I had to explore other restaurants of course. I tried their Cajun, hot Buffalo and Sweet Heat flavors with of course... the hot Buffalo being my favorite. You just can't do better than a good, spicy, saucy, grilled wing. Value: $19.95 gets you 20 wings and that a great deal. They were big, juicy and totally worth it. My salad was $7.95 and it only costed an extra $5.00 to add the chicken. Absolutely worth the money. In conclusion, this is my go-to spot if I'm staying in Buffalo. It's a 26 second walk from hotel door to restaurant door, the people are friendly, the food is fantastic and there's not much more you could want. read more

A friend and I shared two entrees. The chicken Caesar wrap and the Classic burger. Both are served with a large "pile" of French fries. You can order a side salad instead($3.00) or a gluten free roll($2.50). The wrap was nicely filled with chopped up chicken, Romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese, croutons and Caesar dressing. It was very good. The Classic burger was a bit disappointing. We picked Cheddar cheese; it might have been better with jalapeño jack. The burger was a little dry. On Thursdays the burgers are discounted $2.00, although I am not sure the Classic one is. This is primarily a college bar as situated just off the University campus. The menu is quite limited with only 5 salads and a few burgers and sandwiches as well as some starters. Its more bar type food than anything which made sense when I stopped by to pick it up and realized it's definitely more of a bar than a restaurant. My boss enjoyed his chicken sandwich. I went to the Blue Bull Tavern on the suggestion of a friend and was very pleased with the experience. The atmosphere is that of a sports bar, probably to cater to the college crowd. We sat at the bar, although there was plenty of seating available. The bartender was friendly and took our drinks and food orders promptly. They have a variety of beers on draught as well as a full bar. I ordered their "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and my friend got the "Fish Taco." My burger was cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning. The bun was nicely toasted, however the scant guacomole smear added little to the overall taste. After some hot sauce sprinkles it all came together nicely. It came on top of a basket of fries. The burger juices were falling into the fries so I had to ask for a side plate...not a big deal. My friends "Fish taco" was not really a taco but more like a wrap. I had some, and it was delicious. The fish was crispy and hot, which went great with the coolness of the lettuce and slaw. It also came with fries. I would opt for that, next time I go. They have daily discount specials on certain food items and liquors. Best to check out the pics or their website for that info. I'm not too worked up over it because my partner's Buffalo wrap was good, according to him. We came on Easter and the place had only 1 or 2 customers. Ok first and foremost, the cajun wings are AMAZING! So good! Now on to the review... Blue Bull opened a few months ago and has grown on me with each visit. It's a great lunch spot for UB employees (Fridays only for now... hoping that will change!) and Stephanie, the Friday daytime waitress, is AWESOME and very familiar with the menu if you have allergies/gluten issues. The food is just fine, about what you would expect for the price (spare the wings, which again, were awesome). The cheese plate is a little underwhelming but a good buy at $9 or so. I've also had the burger and the chopped salad throughout my visits, and have been pleased with everything I've had. The portions and very generous (especially the Friday fish specials) and everything is fresh and cooked from scratch in the restaurant (even the fries!) - no preserved pre-cooked chicken breast things here (like they are up the street at that burger place with the re-breasted bird)! I'm glad to see the menu isn't huge - they do a few things and they do them well. The food isn't earth shattering good, but when it comes to having a lunch or cheap dinner you'll be happy enough. Happy hour is long (I think 4-7) and offers $1 off drinks. You also get a free drink for checking in on facebook (as of the date of this review) which is nice! Free popcorn too. Really a great addition to the area, and as a UB employee I'm very glad to see it there. For food we picked the Hot Banana Pepper dip. It was cheesy, had a nice spice, and went really well with the tortilla chips. Started the dinner off really well. For entrees I picked the Raging Bull Burger which was a burger with chicken wing dip. lettuce, and sirracha blue cheese. I asked for it medium but it came medium well pushing well. That was my only main nitpick as places around here for some reason can't give a medium burger. It was savory and rich, and I pounded the whole thing. The hand cut French fries with seasoned salt were AWESOME. Having actual fries goes a long way and adds a bunch to the meal. My girlfriend got their cod sandwhich which they use panko as their batter. She gave me a bite and it was crispy, and very good. I liked how the panko added a unique feel to a sandwich you're so used to being beer battered. The rolls that had each sandwich were also very good. Soft, with some substance to absorb each sauce. For $20.14 their restaurant week did what it should and got me through the door for the first time. Each time, the experience has just been okay, my friends and I mostly come here be it is so close to where we live, easy to get to and it is never very crowded. I've ordered the food once, and was pleasantly surprised at how good the fries were. I also like the fact they have Sapporo on tap. Why am I giving it three stars then? There's really not much that makes Blue Bull stand out otherwise. I've had the Blue Bull martini, it was just okay. This place is slightly overpriced as far as drinks go, and the atmosphere is nothing that will blow you away. It's just a convenient place for me near the north campus. I'll probably go back, just because it is so conveniently located for me. Overall it is just okay, not too many complaints, but not much to rave about either. read more

(That would be the Tuscan Grilled Flatbread Pizza and Basket of Hand-Cut Fries with malt vinegar aioli.) Their drinks are decently priced, their food is fresh and tasty, and above all, it's really nice to see a locally owned original bar in this area rather than another chain restaurant. It was super cheesy. It also came with crunchy, salty tortilla chips. Next for entrees we had their Friday specialty fish fry and their buffalo mac and cheese. The fish fell apart in your mouth. It want fishy tasting, the crust was crisp and not oily. It was not overcooked and it didn't have the extra skin left on it. The buffalo mac and cheese want very creamy. It was almost as if they made buffalo chicken wing dip and put that on top of the noodles. It still tasted delicious. I just wish it was more creamy. Unfortunately we had to sit at a table close to the door which wasn't our first choice but all others were taken. This place is very close to our house and it's a staple. Whether it's Sunday brunch with some bloodies and watching the football game, or a late night drink after dinner we love the atmosphere here. The waitresses and bartenders are always friendly and attentive. I think their food is above average bar food but it has room for improvement. I really like their chicken fingers and wings, and I've had their salads before. I would skip most of the entrées as the ones that I've tried have been average at best. It fills the void of a great bar by UB North campus and in the north towns. Plenty of TVs for sports games and plenty of seats at the bar. read more
