A few pros: Chance is a truly a personable, patient and interesting individual. He showed me how to develop trust with my horse, explained horse behavior and psychology, kindly corrected my mistakes, and taught me about balance + how to stand in the stirrups. Cons: pretty dang sore now because I rode correctly for the first time. I can hardly wait until my next ride.

I live close by in the North Valley and my dog and I walk down here at least twice a week, make the loop and walk back up the Albuquerque Drain Trail home. What a great facility. It's the terminus of the "jewel in the crown" ABQ Open Space Bike trail, has an excellent parking lot and you can walk or bike from here in four directions on trails that take you all over the Alameda and Corrales Rio Grande Open Space. the trees, the plants, the two ponds and the trails are excellent. My dog, Sophie, also gives it a five-star rating as well. I last week photographed fruit blossoms there and have photographed birds as well. Love it here!

We came here for the first time on Wednesday for a date night and it was a blast! We were both…read morenovices so we were a bit worried it was going to be frustrating not ever hitting the target but luckily we were wrong. The guy who checked us in was amazing! After the safety spiel, he spent the time helping us find our marks so that we would hit the board every time.....and it worked! I walked away feeling like a bad ass and looking forward to the next date night. They have a kitchen and bar too, which is pretty cool. The fries were well seasoned and the beer was cold, what more could you ask for? The set up of the lanes is pretty cool and overall this is just a great spot. HIGHLY recommend coming here!

Ah, the sweet smell of gasoline in the evening! There's a ton of fun to be had for peanuts out at the Sandia Speedway! As a newbie to the ABQ, I'm still trying to find my way around and find fun things to do. I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was a speedway here in Albuquerque. I don't exactly classify myself as a "Gear Head," but it's still a fun evening, and at only 10 bucks per carload, how can you go wrong? Seriously, 10 bucks per carload, did you read that part? We went on a Friday night, which was apparently the last night of the season for the asphalt track, and I'm glad we did. It's a 3/8 mile oval asphalt track with several different classes of cars racing and a couple heats per class as well. It was indeed fun! I was surprised though, as the stands will hold an easy 1,500 spectators I'm sure, but if there were 100 people there, I'd be amazed. Just no support from the locals. I imagine if you were to pick up this entire speedway and transport it to the middle of the Carolinas, or in the middle of Georgia, anywhere in the south really, the stands would be full every night. It just must be a cultural thing and a lack of advertising maybe. In addition to the asphalt track, there's also a clay oval track where wing sprint cars race, and that can be a lot of fun to watch as well. I do believe the cost to enter that part of the speedway is a bit more though. Check for yourself, but it will still be very reasonable I'm certain, but I know all kids under 10 are free. And finally, motocross races there as well. They really run the gamut of the type of racing and class levels offered. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I did not mention that there were a lot of female race car drivers out there. Not as if we should be surprised by that, but it was still neat to see equality in full race mode. There are concessions and they do accept cards. Just take a peek, you might enjoy yourself!

During the Great Bathroom Tissue Famine, we'd pulled our hair out trying to find something, anything, for our kiddo to DO on the weekend, what with the masking and the distancing and the rest. Following just one visit, I'm very confident we've found our southwestern huckleberry. First, ya gotta sit down with the owner of this place, Margo(t?). She's a card. Running this ranch out of a comfortable double-wide on the high plains of Corrales, she's been there, done that and watched the area morph, over the years, from rags to riches. All the while, she's taken in rich and poor kids -- girls, mainly -- and turned them into equine stewards. As opposed to other ranches around the 505 (we've explored), High C Acres begins by teaching kids to groom, saddle and care for the horses. Our daughter's first lesson ran more than two and a half hours, and I won't quote the incredible price. Margo says she generally has between 30-40 students, of all ages and walks of life, at any given time. These people arrange regular, hour-long visits, to ride and care for the beautiful beasts. She's quick to explain the actual costs of horse ownership, particularly following a mild winter when feed costs are bound to escalate. My kid enjoyed a distanced, masked introduction to this way of life, alongside one of her good friends. It's likely the best money we've spent on Famine entertainment since we all began hoarding. Don't be surprised if there's simply no room at the stable when you call.

This group of talented people had an newbie orientation and Roller derby being something on my "must do" list, I gave it a shot. I knew very little about the sport and my skating skills are rusty at best but they are motivating and helpful. Once I was a part of the league I was invited to great fundraising events and practices they have at various locations. They pitch in with helping the community and are starting up a youth team. I am smitten by the roller derby world and you will too.

She so patiently instructs her students and they flow. If you have been wanting to learn a new dance, they are gearing up for a new class in January 2023. The JCC is always clean. Staff so kind and professional.
