A week later, someone from their office called me and asked me to come in so i can discuss my blood results with a doctor. They also gave me the option to do this over the phone and SURPRISE!!!! THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER COPAY!!!! At my old PCP, they did not charge me a second copay for discussing my results. if you don't want to be nickeled and dimed for everything, then i suggest you look for another doctor's office. But i would say the doctor's here are actually very nice. They do listen to your concerns and i did not feel rushed during my appointment.

Dr. Ting had great bedside manner. She was personable, upbeat, but also concerned and listened attentively. She asked pointed questions about my medical history and recent treatments (as well as their efficacy) and essentially shared her thought process with me in terms of how she was understanding my medical presentation and her rationale for her course of treatment. She was also highly collaborative in that she would suggest a plan of action or an option and ask me my thoughts on the matter. She came to check-in on me or had nurses check-in on me. She recommended I seek out a pulmonologist. She gave me some time to look some up and then reviewed the ones that were in my insurance plan. When she did not recognize the names, she opened up a new tab on my phone and typed in the pulmonologist she recommended. Before discharging me, she asked me, "is there anything else you need from me?" I felt well-cared for by Dr. Ting.

She asked me to pay a deposit first, and they will try to call the insurance another day to confirm my coverage. I didn't want to pay the deposit, so I tried to call my insurance company for them. Once it got connected to the customer service, I passed my cell phone to the receptionist. She pressed somethings on my keyboard, and gave my phone back to me and said it didn't work just like what happened in the morning when they checked. After I got the phone back from her, the call was back to the voice operating system for some reason..not sure what she did. And I told her I already heard the customer service's voice before I passed the phone to her. She said " no..it didn't work. the system didn't let her talk to anyone. Can u just fill out the patient info and pay the deposit first?" I took the form and tried to fill out. At the same time, I called my insurance AGAIN. I got connected to the customer service AGAIN, but this time I talked to the customer service lady myself. I explained to her the situation and asked her to talk to the receptionist. When I pass my phone to the receptionist again, she refused to talk to the representative. The receptionist said " I can't talk to her." I asked why, and she answered " We are really really busy today, and the dr. told me not to talk to the insurance people cuz no time. Can you pay the deposit first?" There was no one waiting in the office at that time besides me. I waited for the previous patient to leave to pass her the phone. Verifying with the insurance company is definitely their responsibility whether they have time or not! In this case, they had plenty of time...and I'm sure it wouldn't take long to verify one Patient's info. I felt the whole thing was just too wack. I didn't want to deal with them. I took the form which I already filled out, and walked away. If Grace Ting is still a partner with Blue Cross insurance, she better acts like one. Don't just use them to attract patients, and made up stupid lies to trick patients to pay for stupid deposit for no reason. I became a patient at The Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Center a few years back when I lost my…read moreinsurance. I looked around for "low cost clinics" and was happy to stumble onto Tzu Chi where I could speak to a physician for a $40 flat fee and I could also get full panel blood work for ~$20. They also have dental and acupuncture services, but I have never used those. I was shocked when I first met Dr. Stephen Denq. He is the first doctor I've ever encountered who was not in a rush or trying to push pills on me to get me out the door. Dr. Denq took extensive time to explain to me the different medical conditions I was experiencing, possible alternative explanations, and a cogent medical treatment strategy. He also shared with me that having a 40" waist is a predictor of heart disease and diabetes. He then explained that he shares this information with all of his patients but unfortunately very few of them actually listen and come back for their next check up having lost weight. He asked me what kind of patient I would be. That was it! Even though I had been obese for four decades, this is the one medical conversation that changed my life. I took his "challenge" very seriously and I began my health/fitness transformation right then and there. The first 20 lbs I lost were by switching to a 100% plant-based diet (not his recommendation per se, but after extensive research, I realized this is the best diet for me), Since meat and cheese have 5X the calories of plant-based foods, I was able to eat the same exact amount while still dropping my caloric intake by 80%. I went back three months later and Dr. Denq was very pleased with my progress. I shared with him that I had plateaued in my weight loss and he suggested I had mastered the diet aspect, now I should strive to increase my exercise regimen. I then joined adult gymnastics (which I am addicted to) and lost another 15 lbs. I went for my quarterly blood work and exam and again Dr. Denq was very excited about my new healthy lifestyle. I told him I wanted to still reach higher level of fitness and he then shared that the human body gets used to the exercise regimen it becomes accustomed to. He suggested I change up my gymnastics work out or take on a second sport/activity. Realizing that successful gymnasts (children and adults) are strong and lean people, I joined a second gym that focuses on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) where I lost my last 15 lbs. In total, I lost 50 lbs in almost two years in BIG part due to Dr. Denq's honest conversations with me. In conclusion, this is a great "low cost clinic." Even though I have insurance now, I am still a patient of Dr. Denq at The Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Center. I even donate to their nonprofit because I believe in the charitable work they're engaging in. Note: While I love this place, I believe in being completely transparent. One downside to this clinic is that a lot of the staff/volunteers speak with a heavy Chinese accent. Dr. Denq does not, so we communicate perfectly, but when the clinic calls to remind you of an appointment or you call to make/change an appointment, communication can be a tad challenging. Oh well, that's a small price to pay for world class medical treatment at extremely affordable prices.

I said "yes but i don't think it's anything". She typed on her computer AND LEFT. NO goodbyes. NO heads-up that shes not doing what I allotted my time for. I just heard her in the hallway talk to the scheduler saying "she's done". NO professionalism at all. I brushed off the first time that she acted like that on my other appointments. But I HAD TO SAY IT. She is the worst NP. She's the type of doctor who DOES NOT listen and DOES NOT CARE. Don't even bother scheduling with her, she's the worst. I've been going through some health issues and she's my go to for whatever I need. If I need to get through to Dr. Kwong I always ask for her. Everyone is helpful and professional, but Michelle knows and has all my info on what I'm going through.
