I have driven by this location many times over the years and for whatever reason, never went in. We wandered in on a dreary Saturday that we were in the mood for a little day drinking and a pizza. There weren't two stools open anywhere at the bar so we grabbed a high top. It seemed to be a lot of regulars and a great environment. Looking forward to stopping by another time. A good friend and I were looking for a local bar with bar food for a casual catch up dinner and a few drinks in his neighborhood. Dukes was the perfect spot! It was a Friday early evening and the place was packed with what seemed as the regular crowd. Lots a conversation, laughter and folks milling about to connect with each other. We ordered heavy - we wanted late night snacks/leftovers. We were not disappointed - we had plenty! We each also ordered the double burger. I wish I had taken a photo of it because, damn it was a DOUBLE burger. We each took half of it home! It's huge, so either have a ridiculous appetite or a plan to have leftovers because it's as delicious as it is huge! This breaks my heart to write this because I have been going there for several years but it has come to a bad ending. I don't know what kind of people are coming in now. I had a very negative experience tonight where I was assaulted and the bartender was less than caring along with someone, who I had never seen before, claimed they worked there calling me names and telling me to go fu*k myself. The kitchen closed at 830 and was told they close whenever the cooks feel like it so too bad if you want food so I think I'm done. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars here but there is only so long you can be loyal when you are treated so poorly. I suggest you find another local place that perhaps may have your back or serve you food past 830. Very sad.... read more

Went for pizza buffet lunch. Server was very friendly and accommodating. Nice selection of pizza, pretty fresh and great taste. They also had a pasta selection and great salad bar. My favorite was the stuffed pepper soup. It was amazing and totally worth going for that soup alone! The buffet includes a pop as well and I believe it was around $10. I've been to Dukes a few times now for dinner, and out for bar service with friends. There are a few things to note... 1. This is a dive bar, pure and simple. The tiles are cracked and pulling off the floor, the tables and chairs are stained and dated, and the bathrooms are pretty gross. 2. It is NOT a bargain bar, it will cost you just as much to drink here as it would to go elsewhere. 3. The people that work here have their regulars, and if you are not one of them it can be difficult to get their attention. 4. The happy hour specials are really the only thing worth ringing home about. Karaoke entailed drunk people jumping on stage and forgetting what they were singing halfway through, the drinks are alright but not strong, and the only entertaining thing we found as a group was the dart board in the back... ((Beware, there are maybe 4 darts that are in workable condition)). In all honesty though... I will be back. I don't hate this place, I just see all of the potential in it. I quite enjoy coming here and playing darts, listening to music, or just listening to the bartenders bitch with the servers when the place is empty. If you just need to get away to a little hole in the wall, have a few beers, and make you feel a lot better about yourself by watching other people, this place will suit you just fine! If you are looking for some sort of fantastic and reasonably priced bar/restaurant, you might want to rethink the majority of Oakdale. read more

Got here just after tHe dinner rush. It was seat your self, no clean tables as a couple big groups just left. We grabbed a booth that still had the cups napkins and check still sitting on it. After 5-7 mins someone came and cleaned off the booth next to us and took their order.(you. Old tell they had been waiting longer than us) I watch as 4 servers cleaned other tables with out guest at them. I stack up the stuff and put the check towards the edge so they could tell it was not our stuff. After 15 mins my wife asked if we could get some help. It took 5-10 more minutes for us to get our drinks(water with lemon, cherry coke, kiddy cocktail and milk). As the waitress set down the kiddy cocktail she told my wife she doesn't have cherry coke. We said how about grenadine just like the kiddy cocktail? She had forgot my water, and I reminded her water with a lemon, a glass of water minus the lemon showed up. The food was good. The cheese curds are awesome, but our batch was pretty small. The cheese bread is good, but really small side of marinara, charged $0.50 for another. Finally we had given the waitress a coupon for a free pizza when she took our order. Of course the pizza was not credited so we had to wait another 5 minutes to get it fixed. I like this place and want to visit local not chain type restaurants, it will be a while before I am back. I will be back, but probably just for drinks. read more

I get up to leave and tell her a guy could die of thirst, she gets pissy w me telling me she won't serve me and to go next door. I was already leaving you dimwit and was not the only one waiting for a drink. I'm new to the area and been in there a couple dozen times and spend cash on food and drink and never seen this gal bartender before. Has a tat of a tree on her arm, guessing has the same IQ? If you're the owner, by all means turn away a paying customer. If not, work on your social skills, catch up when things slow down or after work and do your job serving people. read more

G-R-E-A-T pizza, if you're a cheese lover! I'm from WI and love my cheese - local, REAL cheese, to be specific. Duke's goes the extra mile (or 30?) to purchase their cheese from Ellsworth Creamery, arguably some of the best cheese in all of WI. It totally makes a difference in flavor and quality on their pies. They don't skimp on it, either. The only criticism I have is their mushrooms. I'm a mushroom LOVER, especially on pizza. Canned mushrooms are GROSS. So gross, that thinking about their texture almost makes me gag. Pleeeaaaaase start using delicious, fresh mushrooms - the canned ones don't belong anywhere near your high quality pizzas! read more

I had sent back a full Stoli tonic because something didn't taste right. Either the vodka wasn't Stoli or the tonic wasn't ran thru the gun. Either way the server was more then happy to make me happy and switch it out for a Tito's instead. The bartender looked at me and said "I have to charge you for it because I can't just make you another drink because you didn't like it". I think Dukes is great. It's not for a first date type of place or where you want to sit and talk, but awesome sports bar atmosphere. The service/servers can be pretty slow to non existant at times, but the buffets pretty good. read more

I've come here a few times to have a drink, I like it fine. It seems like a good place to have beer and watch the game. Never eaten here but I've seen so many Pizza's come and go. I wish they sold by the slice. Good drinks, just tip well the first time, if your not a local you may have a wait for anything, I usually do. Its a neighborhood Minnesota bar where people kinda hang Minnesota Nice at the door and be themselves, that with drink can be refreshing as well as intimidating. Have been here a few times thinking it might get better. It doesn't. The food is ok. The service is awful. Not been one time that something wasn't forgotten like an order of cheese curds, over cooked, or under cooked to the point of being raw such as a burger. The owners and management are rude and don't care what customers think. Tables are usually dirty and staff doesn't pay attention when someone new sits down. Around May of 2014 I stopped in for a few beers with a friend of mine. Poor tap selection. Standard blah. I order a Sam Adams lager, friend ordered a Summit EPA. My beer was sour tasting, first thought is dirty lines. Summit keg blew, crabby bartender ask her to order something else. Ask why she just doesn't go change the keg? Responded with "I don't really like doing that". To her credit she did go change the keg. I got another Sam Adams thinking it could have their first pour of the day, noticing all old men were drinking straight booze or yellow fizzy bottled beer. Sour again. Friend got a mixed drink. We drank em down. Friend paid the tab and told me to leave a tip. I didn't hear her say that and headed to the restroom. The crabby bartender chased us to the parking lot and told us we forgot our change. Whoops, sorry a miscommunication between me and my friend. Does that justify being scolded by a bartender for what as crappy beer and crappier service. My money is better spent elsewhere. read more

We were regulars for some time and stopped coming due to horrible service, staff turnaround was a revolving door. There were two exceptions on the wait staff and they're gone now too. This goes to ownership, clueless with excuses. We went there tonight to give them one last chance, they blew it. 15 minutes at a table in a high traffic spot before even being acknowledged. We asked for the owner Mike, we told him the whole story, last chance and they blew it etc. He apologized and said we're normally better than that. No Mike, your not and we will not be back. Reserved Duke's party room for a family Christmas party and had the pizza buffet. Can't say enough how great it was! The room is nothing fancy but perfect for a casual get together. The pizza buffet was awesome - all the pizzas were hot and fresh and delicious and were replensihed quickly when anything ran out. We had our own private bartender, Mike, who was great - friendly and professional! Would definitely recommend Duke's party room and catering for any occasion. Pass by Dukes and don't bother to go in. Our service was beyond slow the bartender who was our server was so drunk. He was more interested in his drinks than the patrons in the place. We were able to get a waitress to help us out. This place needs new ownership, its poorly run. read more

Uh...take five, or is it six...cannot rememer how many places have tried to make it at this location. This place changes names, decor, and menu items every few years, but its STILL just a fancier looking dive bar with plenty of fights to be had, expensive bar food, and the same beer swigging, antisocial, lets get in a fight every friday group of locals that have been comin here for years. Dont get me wrong, Im a local and used to hang out with the locals at this bar 6 or 7 years ago and three resterant/bar makeovers earlier. Back then the crowd was friendlier and chatted with everyone, even strangers were made to feel welcome. Karaoke was fun back then at this bar and people sang along, ribbed you good naturedly if u sucked, and egged their friends on to get up and try a somg. Now u just get super loud talking while your singing, unfriendly and indifferent looks and stares if you sing, and everyone looks unfriendly. I wouldnt recommend this place if your not a regular because everyone is antisocial if your an outsider. And i agree with other posters that u pretty much get ignored by the wait staff and servers unless your either a regular or sitting at the bat where u can glag someone down. I will agree that the pizza was great.....but seriously, canned mushrooms on a pizza!!!!!...totally ruins a great pizza. I agree with the other posting that being a cheapskate and using canned mushrooms is really dumb!!!! I dont go to bars to really drink. I go for some conversation, to sing karaoke, eat some food, and play pool if they have a pool table. I was the only person to sing karaoke other than the dj for three hours. This place as a karaoka bar sucks and they should get rid of it. None of the locals wanna sing karaoke and some actually hate that the karaoke is there. Dont come here if u wanna do karaoke, as you will have a miserable time. I wont be back, as those are the things I look for in a good bar. If u just wanna get drunk with your friends, maybe see a local bar fight, or dont have any great expectations about the quality of service or the bar having a friendly atmosphere, then by all means go here. You can slap on some new paint, put a patio outside, and change up the menu as many times as u want but this place will always be a dive bar underneath. read more
