    rueben sandwich with fries

We went here for lunch today. We met some friends and had a good visit. There was a vikings game so it was quite loud in there, Our server was good. I ordered the rueben sandwich with fries. My wife got the walleye sandwich and tots. The food was good. we had a nice time.

Met friends here for lunch today. I ordered the walleye sandwich with tots. The food wasn't very hot when we got it. I did like the fish wish it could have been hotter. I guess I could have sent it back but decided to just eat it. My husband got the Rueben he said it was good. We had a nice time visiting. It was quite loud but there was a Vikings game on.

This sports bar is filled with activities and fun. The drinks are good and the food is yummy. When we got there they had a meat raffle going on and lots of music. My hubby and I ordered a taco pizza which was so good and unique. Rest of our party had make your own pizza and garlic Parmesan wings. Everyone was happy and full. The service was top notch. Hope to be back on our next visit

    Waffle fries.

I went here with a group of 20 we were there for bingo. The service was slow, getting drink orders and food orders. Keeping drinks filled and checking in after the initial order was done got much better. It is a decent size place, where the ambient noise level wasn't bad you could have a conversation. The food was so so for being a burger place. They default to medium well burgers, I asked for medium rare. I got well done. The cheese curds were nothing fancy same kind you pull from a freezer. Price for the app, burger with waffle fries, and 3 drinks was still under $50 after tip, of 23%. I would still give it a try for drinks and different food/apps. Bingo also had TV's that showed the numbers being called as well.

After golf, we decide to stop at shortstop for a quick bite to eat and a beer. on Saturday night, it was extremely busy because of bingo night. I guess who doesn't like bingo? But you may want to avoid Sat night if you want to have a meal. Appetizers; bang bang shrimp Look: kind of looked like my niece made these so I expected the worst outcome 2/5 Taste; these were surprisingly good. Maybe not the best shrimp I've eaten but pretty darn good. 4/5 consensus; I would get these again even if I wasn't in a seafood craving. Entree: Bacon, ranch crisper (Fried chicken in a house sauce recipe on a brioche bun). Look: It looks like a fried chicken sandwich on the outside. 4/5 Breading: the breading falls off like a cat shedding hair after you pet it. You just touch the chicken and the breading falls off. I have to assume the oil wasn't hot enough Or warmed to 375°. 1/5. Taste: It tasted actually pretty good. Maybe that was the bacon? Maybe that was the breading flavor? Maybe it was the touch of salt after it came out of the fryer. Who knows. 4/5 Size : I'm not gonna nitpick, but I thought it was a little bit on the smaller side. Maybe, I just wanted more? 3/5 consensus: this is probably the combo I would get every time at shortstop not because it is the greatest meal I have ever ate. I have had some questionable meals at short stop and this one was good enough to get a repeat order. 4/5

We were pleasantly surprised by the food. I have a friend who grew up in Fridley and who lives about 6 blocks away from Shortstop. He refuses to go to the Shortstop with me, and he always told me to not go because it's a dump. But I finally stopped in with my daughter for burgers last night and we were pleasantly surprised by the good food. FOOD: I'd say that the food is a 4. I had a Shorty's Burger with waffle fries - it was great! And my daughter had a Breakfast Burger with tater tots - she loved it and practically inhaled it! SERVICE: The service was a little sketchy. I'd say the service is a 2 1/2 or a 3. Our first server said one of the dumbest things I've heard a server say in the past few months. I asked her which beers, on-tap, had the most hops flavor. She said she didn't know because she doesn't drink hoppy beer. Really? Duh? What does your beer preference have to do with it? Ever heard of "product knowledge"? A little more showing me product knowledge and a little less showing off cleavage and tattoos would have been really nice. Our second server was a lot better than the first one. But she forgot 2 things. Again, really? We only had burgers. CUSTOMERS: I don't mean to sound arrogant because I'm not a fancy dude. But the redneck crowd was really distracting. There was a pile of ignorant sounding people with a lot of cursing and super loud talking. There were herds of these boneheads, both male and female. This kinda sucked when I was trying to have a peaceful burger with my kid at 5:00 on Sunday. -Daddy Maxx Retro

The shrimp bowl is my go to here, and was great. The sauce with the shrimp, avocado, veggies and rice is a great balance of flavor. I love a place that actually adds enough sauce so you don't have to reach for ketchup. Fries were crispy, beer on tap was cold and fresh, and my partner's Breakfast Burger with a perfectly runny over-easy egg was spot on. The whole vibe is cozy, laid-back, and exactly what you want from a classic neighborhood dive. There's easy residential street parking nearby, which makes it even better. Definitely come during off-hours if you want to snag a seat, it's popular for a reason. Bonus: it was easily $20-$30 cheaper than any other sit-down meal we've had around here. Perfect dive bar, no notes. Seat yourself. Friendly service.

Found off-street parking in a neighborhood close by. We are early birds but we got the last available booth/ table at 5pm. It's a small place so it's maybe 4 booths, 5 tables, 1 hightop and the bar for seating. It is seat yourself. The "kitchen" is also to the side of the bar (like Matt's Bar in MPLS) so you can watch them cook if you had a good seat. There was a "band" (2 people) setting up for live music to begin at 6pm. We had left prior to them starting though. Even thought it was packed, we had plenty of attention from all the staff: waitress, bartender and COOK. Waittress to our order, bartender delivered our drinks, cook verified our order (small vs large onion rings). We splint an order of onion rings. They were battered, not breaded! We prefer battered. They were slightly sweet, crunchy and hot. No dipping sauce offered besides bottled ketchup. Sis got the $11 fish basket with $1.50 lemonade. A dollar fifty for lemonade!! I tried the tartar sauce and liked it. Had a hint of dill. I got the $11 shrimp basket. The shrimp were breaded. Hot and crunchy. No tartar sauce for dipping. They were good but didn't really taste the shrimp, just the breading. I'm not a coleslaw fan but sis said it was good/fine. She couldn't describe the flavor, just that it wasn't Marzetti's (less flavor, no zip). I also ordered a McKenzie's Black Cherry cider. That's hard to find in a bar. It was cold and tart and delicious. Mmm. And only $4.50. Overall, the place was clean, the service was great, the food was good, the prices were awesome. We will definitely be back to try out more of the menu (aka Tony's Firecracker burger). Love supporting small businesses in our local neighborhoods.

When I go to new cities, I typically seek out food that is specific to the region and thus a little more interesting to me. You can get a burger anywhere, and a cheese filled patty, aka a "Juicy Lucy", didn't sound like something I needed to try. But my husband kept talking about it and really seemed bent on having one so we decided to come here to try it out. We showed up during their happy hour, from 4-5pm, and they had $5 draft beers. Score! It's a cute place with ample seating, nice natural light from the large windows, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and pub sauce. I chose the Impossible patty version, but you can also get it with their house made black bean burger. Hubby chose the Garlic Girl, a black bean cheeseburger topped with bacon (also made in-house), berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion. Each burger came with fries. Both burgers were spectacular and delicious in their own way. The bacon on hubby's burger was incredible, and his burger was rich and satisfying. By my Juicy Lucy, oh my... Every bite was a flavor explosion and intensely delicious without being a gut bomb shockingly. To top it off, the fries were super crispy and just perfect. WOW is all I can say. Note that while the prices may seem a little higher than what you might expect, Francis Burger is a no tipping establishment, as stated on their menu. THE FOOD Pierogis - 5/5 so pillowy Doused in a butter sauce, delicious potato goodness. A little steep for $19 for 4 pieces, but definitely a highlight of the night. Silesian pierogis - 5/5 the Parmesan leek sauce was a great compliment to the almost mochi, textured potato dumplings. Definitely different than the normal pierogies, but in my opinion, the sauce really stood out for this dish and was well balanced with the pickled cabbage. Pork dish 4/5 - the pork was cooked PERFECTLY, nice char on the outside with a juicy inside, not dry by any means. The sauerkraut plus the mustard sauce was a perfect bite. However, I do feel the mustard sauce is quite overpowering at times so if you don't like mustard do not get this. It does look like a large portion, but I did eat all of it with a little bit of help. I do wish there was some sort of starch on the plate, but better portioning the most pork chops restaurants that I have had. Flat iron steak 3/5 - I was most looking forward to this one after seeing it on Instagram however, the dish somewhat fell short for $40. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the potato pavee was exciting since this is quite rare where to find in the Twin Cities restaurant scene. There was not much sauce on this dish. The small bit of sauce provided, being quite buttery and did not add much to the flavor. The potato pavees were very crispy and a nice inside texture but for me a little bit oversalted, but there was just nowhere to go in the dish for sauce/punchy flavor. I wish there was an aioli/chimichurri to go with the potato pavee and some other type of seasoning like a Mexican seasoning on the potatoes. It's seems the entrees were not very vegetable forward however I feel like for $40 the pork and the steak could have used maybe a few pieces of brussels sprouts or asparagus to balance out their richness. Overall, a very lovely experience. I feel like anything on their menu is worth a try. The waitress mentioned that they do have rotating seasonal items. You won't be disappointed!
