I want to start off by saying the service we received was excellent. Our server let us know the drink specials right away since there was only about 30 minutes from the specials ending. She was so nice and attentive. The bar is big and has a good vibe. It was clean and so were the bathrooms. We ordered the Cowboy Queso and Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Unfortunately the food was just ok. The queso was not very warm and was not super flavorful. The Nashville, hot chicken sandwich and fries with the seasoned sour cream were also lacking in spice and flavor. I will say the chicken was very tender. It was a decent fried chicken sandwich, but it needed more spice in the batter and in the Nashville hot department. We did come in at a time when the bar was slow but if this place elevated its food just a little bit I would definitely be sure to return. read more

This sports bar is filled with activities and fun. The drinks are good and the food is yummy. When we got there they had a meat raffle going on and lots of music. I went here with a group of 20 we were there for bingo. The service was slow, getting drink orders and food orders. Keeping drinks filled and checking in after the initial order was done got much better. It is a decent size place, where the ambient noise level wasn't bad you could have a conversation. The food was so so for being a burger place. They default to medium well burgers, I asked for medium rare. I got well done. The cheese curds were nothing fancy same kind you pull from a freezer. Price for the app, burger with waffle fries, and 3 drinks was still under $50 after tip, of 23%. I would still give it a try for drinks and different food/apps. He refuses to go to the Shortstop with me, and he always told me to not go because it's a dump. I had a Shorty's Burger with waffle fries - it was great! And my daughter had a Breakfast Burger with tater tots - she loved it and practically inhaled it! SERVICE: The service was a little sketchy. I'd say the service is a 2 1/2 or a 3. Our first server said one of the dumbest things I've heard a server say in the past few months. I asked her which beers, on-tap, had the most hops flavor. She said she didn't know because she doesn't drink hoppy beer. Really? Duh? What does your beer preference have to do with it? Ever heard of "product knowledge"? Some of the biggest wings I have seen pre Covid. Wings were awesome and delivered warm. The issue was the crispy chicken sandwich. It had no flavor, warm and way overpriced. I also can't understand how the sandwich was warm and the waffle fries were cold. The seasoned sour cream was traditional however worthless with cold fries. I've spent many an hour at Shortstop (previously Joe DiMaggios when I started coming and lived and worked in this area). This is a comfortable place for dinner, excellent for just hanging out with friends after work, or watching a game with a bar full of people you don't know, but feel comfortable with anyway. It's not trendy, but it's nice. They have a decent menu, usually have some great food specials, and they make some good drinks. The service is always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I don't think I've ever had bad service here honestly. Many of the servers have worked here for years and that adds to the experience when you see the same employees over time. It's a nice neighborhood sports bar and I make it a point to stop every once in a while when I'm in the area even if it's just a drink and appetizers. read more

I wish I could rate this place zero stars. I came here with my 7 year old son, I shouldn't have. The food was actually pretty good much to my surprise. The restaurant smelt like someone had smoked 6 packs of cigarets right before I entered. It said seat yourself so we did and no one came to our table for 20 minutes. So I asked for a manager. Some guy with food all over his shirt came out and said he was the manager.... manager of what, washing dishes?? He said he couldn't do anything for us because it was our fault we didn't "announce" ourselves. He also wasn't wearing a mask? He said it was his right not to. We ended up leaving. I still don't think he was a manger, more like a random guy off the street. I cant quite recall his name. Something like Brad or Chad. Im not sure. Nevertheless I will not be returning. It was a slow Sunday because the Vikings had played on Thursday for Thanksgiving, so the restaurant was pretty dismal compared to past visits. Our server was really defensive for no reason and would do things that exhibited an aloofness that I don't often see. A few notes: -forgot my beer when bringing out the first round of drinks (excusable), brought it 5 minutes later and said "there, it's like it was always there." -misheard one of us when handing out food: "American breakfast?" "Right here." "I must have grabbed the wrong thing." (Probably heard her wrong. Excusable...) She brings the entree back to the kitchen and brings it back to the table saying "this is what I wrote down for you." "It's the American Breakfast, right?" "Yes." (Sets in front of her) End of transaction. We had just left Mercy Hospital together and we weren't a very lively group. After we got our food, we didn't see much of our server. Food was fine. That got you two stars. She left us alone for about 15 minutes as my Dad and I finished our beers, then came by our table (of 8 people) and handed my Dad the folded check, all on one tab. She said nothing as she walked away. $137 tab. No "thanks," no offering to split the check, no "pay whenever you're ready." Just a gesture that said: "I delivered you things, now pay." We're happy to do the math in most circumstances but nothing drives me more crazy as a diner than when it's assumed that a large group (especially four couples) isn't approached with the inquiry. Ask the question. This server had the opportunity to make a lot of money, but instead, I feel as though we were treated dismissively because it wasn't busy. We love great service and we tip for it. Management is absolutely terrible. I have been here a few times and every time I go here, I am disappointed. I am always getting disrespected by the staff. If you are going to run a food business, customers come first. Disrespecting and blatantly ignoring customers will result in customers not returning and that is exactly what I'm going to do. The food was not bad. But when you have an environment that is negative and you can tell the management unhappy, the customers will be unhappy. If I could rate this restaurant negative stars, I would. I believe the manager is a male that is usually there, and he is very unprofessional. Local business with great service and most definitely a townie vibe. Other reviewers are absolutely right when they say it's blue collar and a high school reunion, but this is part of the charm!! They have nothing to hide - the food, drinks and service are all on point, so no need for the clientele to be fru-fru! Bring on that half-drunken rant over there at the bar, or belt out that Rush song if it moves you - you're in good company! :) I always get the Shorty's Burger - it's consistently delicious and the portion, along with the fries or tots, is absolutely worth every penny. And no charging for extra bleu cheese or ranch on the side - booya! We always get great service, no matter if the place is packed or not. Free popcorn is nice too, and there are tons of TVs for sports-watchers. Haven't ventured into the back where I believe there's pool, darts, that kind of thing - but appears to be a good time. Oh, and a meat raffle and bingo are some other events that happen nightly - not sure the nights, but good times! All around, good food, friendly and prompt service, great value - and a place where you don't feel as though you're throwing your money away to greedy corporate execs who only care about profits. Decent beer selection and pretty good service. The music can be awfully loud however. I used to be a huge fan of this place. We were here almost every Friday night with a large group of friends. Last summer some changes were made in the management and the place kinda changed. It's still a great divvy drinkin' bar but we won't be back this year.
