I seem to always need stuff on a short notice and they always deliver with perfection. Have been going to Duman's off-and-on for decades. Every once and a while I'll need something altered and Duman's is the place. They're listed as one of the best tailor's in Denver by a neat site called "Expertise," an unpaid Consumer Reports-like website that rates service providers. These guys suck. They're overpriced and don't understand simple directions. I brought in my dress shirts. I needed a button added to the waist, plus accompanying button hole on each shirt, plus about 8 of the 22 shirts had small rips in the left elbow. When I got them back, many didn't the added button nor the hole. Do you know the total price for this shoddy non-work? $330. They charged me $15 per shirt for doing basically nothing. I so wanted to support a small business. I went out of my way to find them. And this is what happens? Never again will I put my trust in a mom and pop shop. They truly are idiots. And I'm an idiot for thinking for one second that they weren't idiots. Do not give them your business. read more

I've driven past this place for years and never really paid attention to it. I went in today because I needed to get some chef's pants for work and I've been having a tough time finding them. They had a full run of sizes in standard black, but not a lot of color variety. The staff was very friendly and they even hemmed them for me while I waited. DUMAN'S IS THE BEST. I will be coming here from now on for all of my tailoring in Denver. I had a dress delivered to me the day before an event and it was way too big on the top. I called Duman's to see if there was any way they could tailor it to make it fit better on such short notice. I came in early the morning of the event and they graciously fit my dress into their schedule for the day! By the afternoon, it was ready for me to pick up and it fit perfectly. The best tailor I've ever dealt with and the most exemplary customer service! I brought a disastrous bridesmaid's dress here that didn't fit me any way shape or form. They took out the dress in the hips, made the top part fit me, shortened, and bustled it for me. They found improvements to be made that I wouldn't even think of, but made all the difference! The dress now fits perfectly- I can't even believe it's the same dress! It went from a very ugly, unflattering, ridiculous dress to something I may actually wear again. Not only that, but they charged me an extremely fair price, especially after all the work they had to do. What really set them apart for me was that the owner walked me to my car a couple of blocks away to make sure I felt safe and comfortable coming to them (I later found out there's very convenient parking right behind the shop). A year before I had called the shop and asked if they serve the LGBTQ community and without hesitation they said they did. Fast forward to my current situation and I decided I would go there to see about my need for alterations. I am a tall transwoman (6'2", 165 lbs.) and the typical 'off the rack' dresses from most brick-and-mortar and online retailers are made for women with the averages in mind. As a result, it can be a challenge for me to easily buy dresses and have them fit in the way where I feel feminine and they look right. I recently bought 3 great dresses from an online retailer knowing it was anyone's guess as to the fit. Generally, I have to get XL (14-16) in order to have the length be the way it should, but then because I am slimmer I often have a lot of excess material around the waist. Also, the full sleeves often just miss sitting on the wrist the way they should. The excess waist makes it hard to give me hips and more of an hourglass shape. Sure enough, the dresses were great, but with the waist and sleeve issues. I went to the store dressed as a male and indicated I had called about having some dresses altered and showed them to Steve and Marie. They said it should not be a problem but they needed to have me try them on so they could see where to adjust and mark accordingly. I was slightly uneasy about that, given I was male in presentation and their store front is all windows facing the street. I did not particularly want myself in public view in male presentation trying on dresses. Steve was great and completely understood and so we went to the side where some changing/fitting stalls are and I got changed. He made sure that I was not in the public eye (as they were also serving other patrons coming in/out). He pinned the dresses in all the needed places to take in the waist. One dress needed the waist in AND the sleeves to be taken to a 3/4 sleeve due to my length. He said no problem The waist on that dress was a challenge because it had a pre-sewn in solid metal band at the waist line that need to be accounted for as well. Lastly, I decided to spice up the skirt portion by adding two 6-inch slits (vents) on each side. Once Steve completed that he introduced me to Marie who handled all the details for expected timeline to complete the work. She was easy to work with. I called Marie 2 weeks later to check on progress as she had asked me to do. They said they were nearing completion and should be ready on the appointed date. Later that week I got a call confirming alterations were done. I picked up the dresses and was not able to try them on in the store. Marie emphasized that they stand behind their work and when I got home and tried them on if there was anything, anything at all that was not right to bring them back and the will adjust as many times as needed. I got them home and tried them on and they were PERFECT! They fit me just like they were supposed to. I can wear them with 100% confidence! Thank you Duman's! I have nothing to compare the cost of the alterations to as these are the first dresses I have ever had altered. The bulk of the charge was $45 each for each waist that was taken in, and the remaining balance of $65 the creation of the vents and 3/4 sleeves. They got it right, got it right the 1st time, and stand behind the quality of the work. I have no issues paying for quality work. read more

I am glad to see there are so many 5 stars review, deservedly so. Not quite sure what the single negative comment is about/nor is it accurate from my experiences. I was in there last week and the staff is as helpful as possible. Additionally, Steve is a true professional. Within 5 minutes of alterations/suggestions, the suit looked 10x better. Every time I've taken in clothing to Duman's, I get them back in tip top shape in quick manner. This is a small business that earns its business and does incredible work. I took in a full suit to be tailored at Duman's and had a fantastic experience all around. When I arrived I was immediately greeted and shown to a room to change into the suit to take measurements. The gentleman took time to mark all of the necessary alterations for the jacket taper, chest, and the sleeve length. With each step he asked if it looked good in length and feel. I am a shorter man so I always struggle with sleeve length and pant length. When looking at the pants we settled on a slight break on my dress shoes and I was happy with all of the alterations set to be made. I was not in a rush so I requested to have the alterations done in a week. When returning exactly a week later I was kindly greeted as I walked in again. I presented my claim ticket and they pulled the suit out within seconds. They had me try on the jacket and pants to make sure I was satisfied with the work they had done. Everything came out wonderfully and I could not be happier with the work they had done with my previously ill-fitting suit. After they ensured my satisfaction with their work they pressed the suit to perfection and put it in a protective bag. This is the first time I can truly say a tailor has gone above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and confident in a suit, and it is now hands down the best fitting clothing I own. If you are in need of a good tailor, do not hesitate to give Duman's your business. Prices were beyond reasonable for the quality work they did. This is a Denver landmark if you have ever worked in the high end service industry. I have had a dozen plus jobs where I was outfitted here. They are far more than just uniforms and tux rental. They are old school service. They are about a perfect fit, and taking more than a few measurements to make sure the drape of a jacket is correct. To measure the distance from thumb to cuff, of shoe to hemline. I have always left feeling like a well groomed gentleman, vs a insanely over-worked, nearly frantic chef. Here's the story. I have a St. Patty's Day kelly green wool jacket that I absolutely adore. One day, I ate too much ColdStone, and one of my buttons popped and got lost. Yeah, I'm a fatty. Please mind your business. So, I desperately searched for a custom tailor, and my husband suggested I drop it off at Duman's since it's so close to my work. It wasn't just a one-button fix -- I went ahead and had all buttons changed so all the buttons would match. A week later, my jacket is refreshed and renewed. It only cost $10 which is a steal. My only regret is that I could have spent that money on some ColdStone ice cream, but maybe if I did that I wouldn't have been in this conundrum in the first place. I love you, Duman's. read more

These ladies are awesome! I had to stop by and get a suit tailored for an upcoming event. It needed to be let out in the waist area b/c I'm a fat kid and also the length needed to be hemmed as well. I gave them plenty of time for the job and they had it ready within a week. Excellent work; the pants fit perfectly and they even steamed my suit jacket - all for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely be returning for any future alterations. Also a little tip, parking is tough sometimes in the area.. you can actually park in the rear of the store and avoid the hassle. read more

I've rented tuxes from Duman's for two years now. They have an extensive notecard system that allowed me to walk in a year later, after the first time I used them, and have them be able to offer "the same thing you got last time?" They re-measured me just in case. And they're very particular about you coming in a day or two before your event to try it on in case they need to make alterations. read more

I've been going to Duman's for years getting every type of article of clothing I owned tailored. Don't let the store front, location or interior decor fool you, Duman's has been around for over 30 years doing what they do best. No dress shirt or jeans should be worn without altering it to fit you, so it's worth at least a shot. Whether it be suits, jeans, dress shirts, or leather jackets, they can take care of you. I reserve 1-star for the worst of the worst, and while I feel bad doing it, sometimes businesses leave me no choice. With that in mind, I am kindly granting the second star to Duman's because, we'll actually, I am not sure why. Maybe I am generous today, or maybe because they try to do right, but really I do not think the staff has all the skills required to be a "custom" shop. I brought a skirt, one of my all time favorites, because I needed it taken in at the waist a little. My husband brought in a suit jacket because he needed it taken in a little too. I would like to use the term disaster to explain the final product, but that seems severe, so let's just say, not good. My skirt was taken in too much and while they offered to fix it, it now bunches weird and lies wrong. My husband had to get the coat fixed two times, and it still has a bump in the back, too much fabric underneath and poorly sewn hems (which the owner said he could press out, but of course that didn't work, it was shoddy craftsmanship). While they would have continued to try to make it right, I can not have them hack up either item any further. My hub brought the jacket to someone else to fix and I am going to bring my skirt there too. While the service was inexpensive, I learned my lesson. Spend a little extra and go somewhere better. It's not often I give a 5-star review but Duman's deserves it. This place is old school and has been in the same location for a long time. I took men's clothing for alterations so I can't comment and women's tailoring quality. Steve is a great guy and very friendly when you walk in. The staff is also very friendly and attentive. Within a few minutes I was trying on my suit for him to mark for alterations. I just needed sleeves and pants to be shortened and buttons applied. I came back a week later and everything is completed on time and not requiring any extra alterations. No complaints whatsoever. My main comparison is a Greek lady not far away that I went to once and never again as she did a bad job shortening sleeves and the place reeked of cigarette smoke. (Not sure if she is still around, hopefully not) I should also note Duman's is the place Macy's Men's Dept. at Cherry Creek sends customers for alterations. The price was reasonable at $35, and probably significantly cheaper than most fancy tailors at cherry creek. I do not have a big need for alterations on a regular basis but Duman's will always get my business in the future. I'm glad I found this place and you should give it a shot if you are looking for a solid tailor. read more

Some of the best customer service I have ever received - and just as high quality tailoring. Last year, I brought in a suit that was (unknown to me) too small. Steve could have easily made the appropriate measurements and made decent money off of me to make the suit work. Instead, he called his contact at Macy's who put me in touch with a store in San Francisco to order the last suit in the nation in my size. True to his word, the only thing that needed to be altered was hemming the pants. Steve could have gotten me to pay a good deal of money that day, but his honesty and client-first mentality prevented that. Now I know that I have a tailor who looks out for my best interest and will bend over backwards to not only make me look great - but also do everything possible to work with my timelines. There's a reason Duman's has been open for as long as they have been. They know how to treat people right. read more

Duman's is awesome! I bring everything I need tailored here and they are consistantly great. Being very thin and 5'11", I need pants, skirts and dresses taken in and lengthened often. I tried going to a place closer to home, but had to take it back after the seam ripped after one wear. You will NOT find that at Duman's. They do jeans too. Thanks for the tip Brett R. I'm a fan of this place fo sho! I brought in a pair of slacks with really long legs, but as I am almost oompa loompa sized that's a fair description of all my pants. After being promptly greeted the pants were measured and pinned and ready for action. They asked if one week was good - I would call that a fair time frame. One week later my pants fit to perfection. Steve Duman was there and politely asked how they fit as I was trying them on. He said that they like perfection :-) If you have the chance take a look at all the old photos and newspaper clippings. Clearly, this business has been a staple of the Denver area for sometime. There is definitely an old school feeling to this shop which I love. Marie is a saint ! Due a major mistake in the chalk markup by the salesperson at Macy's, one sleeve was marked 1 1/2 inches too short on the left sleeve and resulted in the sleeve being altered accordingly. Since the suit was for my daughter's wedding, there was major stress created due to a lack of time for the new alterations plus the extent of the mistake and concerns about having enough material to let out. Marie was very reassuring that the problem could be corrected to my satisfaction and would rush the job to make sure that it would be ready the next day. I am happy to report that the finished sleeve was perfect. Thanks again Marie for making a very stressful error by Macy's work out to my satisfaction. read more

I took my wedding dress here for alterations. They looked at it and quote me a very reasonable price range, so after shopping around I decided to go with them. After 5 trips back and forth to keep trying it on because they failed to take it in enough or hem it correctly they charged me $120 MORE THAN THE QUOTED price citing time it took. I argued and he took off $15 but really it was outrageous. It's not my fault they couldn't get it right in the first place. They should still stick with top end of their quote. He claimed it was never written down so it didn't count. Also the had me standing on a dirty floor in my white dress dragging on the ground. He said I should get it cleaned after hemming "only $100 more", which I hadn't planned to do and later learned can ruin an organza dress and is not advised. Finally when I took the dress to be pressed after the alterations since their job left many uneven areas sticking out, the other shop noticed they had left pins and safety pins throughout the dress! She noted it looked like the alterations they did were pretty bad as well. To add to our fun, my fiancé rented his suits there. They beat out the prices of other stores and that was a plus. But on our wedding day they DID NOT HAVE ONE OF THE GROOMSMEN SUITS. They completely forgot to get it from the rental company! We have them all the measurements. With day of wedding hectic urging and pleading they agreed to rush a suit in a similar size but luckily same color from a city over 4 hours away in CO where one distributor was. It ended up working out - but not the day of wedding hassle any couple wants. I would never advise anyone to take clothes they care about there like a wedding dress. read more

This is a fairly limited review -- I got 3 pairs of unlined slacks hemmed here and the charge was only $10 each. You really can't beat the price at all. The hemming was done very well and they don't look altered at all. The only drawback was that it took about 10 days - I think they were really backed up. Complete waste of my time. I wanted to have a couple of jackets and one pants altered I called before I came down and asked if I needed to make an appointment because this place is out of my way (I live in the DTC area and there are plenty of tailors in the area but because it was referred by Macy's where I bought the suit from, I figured they must be good) Marie, who I spoke with said that I didn't need an appointment. I arrived at the store at 12:30 pm and one of the women there said that Steve, who would be better to assist me, was out and that he'd be back in about 1/2 hour. Mind you I wasn't told over the phone that there were "lunch hours." I came back about 1:10 pm just to give Steve extra time and he still wasn't there. The woman called Steve and she told me he would be another 15 minutes. At that point I just said that I was leaving. My time is just as important and a business should recognize this. It was a complete waste of my time having to drive in Denver traffic. Guess I should've stuck to my instinct and find a tailor close to home. read more

I had a dress shortened. They had three weeks to accomplish it, and told me it was an easy fix (it was only being shortened). When I picked up my dress, they told me it was harder than they thought (they had the dress and even basted for me before starting. If you know how to sew, you would know what would go into this dress to hem it). I picked up my finished dress and they tried to charge me $160. After complaining they lowered it to $120., but that's still ridiculous to shorten a dress I paid $80. for. If I would have known I was spending $200 on a dress, it wouldn't have been this one- and all because "they didn't know how hard shortening a dress would be. I will never go there again and I'll warn anyone who needs anyone done to stay away. read more

First and foremost, the staff is very sweet and nice. Second, the tailoring probably ruined 3-4 new shirts. All I needed was a modern fit. I brought in an example of a shirt that fit the way I like. The first try wasn't even close. So, I brought them back to get adjusted and brought ANOTHER example of a shirt that fit the way I prefer. The second try was another epic failure. Third time they rushed the job and I had to wait an additional 10 minutes while they retailored on the spot (why didn't they just do it the previous 2 times?). Expensive too. we all know how baggy Joseph A Banks suits are, they made mine look like a true custom tailor suit. A little pricey at $100 bucks, but i had a lot of work done on it and it was done right the first time. so IMO....worth it read more
