Had some really good food, solid friendly service, and happy music for the soul. Definitely worth a try

A few years ago, we lived in Jackson and this was one of our go-to places. The food was always good, the service was excellent, and it had a great atmosphere that made it a fun place to meet friends or grab a meal. While passing through recently, we decided to stop in for lunch and relive some good memories. Unfortunately, things have changed over the years. The quality of the food has noticeably declined, and the service was disappointing compared to what we remembered. It's always frustrating when a place you once enjoyed no longer delivers the same experience. The vibe is still there, but the food and service just didn't live up to our past visits. Most of the food was good but none of it was special. It took a VERY LONG TIME to get our food, and the restaurant wasn't full. We were pleased with the fried pickle appetizer and the amount we got (would order it again if I go again); however, we were very disappointed with the very small pieces of minced-meat buffalo chicken appetizer, which were about the same consistency as McDonald's chicken nuggets. And even with happy hour discount, the price was way too expensive for 5 small fake chicken nuggets. The shrimp and grits were good, but not extra good. The sausage was the best part but I only had 4 small thin pieces on the edge of the plate. The portions were okay, but as you can see in the photo, the cup for the corn was only half full, and there weren't many potatoes. The regular sized chicken looks huge compared to them because they were small. Don't bother to order happy hour drinks!!!!!!!! If you're going to order drinks, avoid the happy hour watered-down, no-flavor drinks and pay the high price for the specialty drinks. The happy hour drinks were terrible. I mean terrible! At best they tasted like extremely watered down Kool-Aid. But the higher-priced top-shelf margarita was very good. HEY MANAGEMENT, if you're going to have a happy hour, make it a good one so people will come back. We also had water, but it tasted like the glass had chemicals in it from not being properly rinsed. We requested different water, but sadly it was the same. After bringing the second water and it just sitting there, the server never checked to see if it was better. The server was nice, but he talked way too much and was overly exaggerated in his actions. The other employees seemed mad or like they didn't want to be there. On the way to the restroom, I passed someone going both ways, and I got nothing but a blank stare. Smile people!!!! It costs nothing and brings your customers back!!!! Overall, I'd go there again but definitely try something else, except for the fried pickles. But if the next experience isn't much better, I will not go again. read more

Ordered gator bites for the appetizer and redfish with sautéed mushrooms as my entree. Gator bites were good. Not overcooked or rubbery. The dipping sauce was okay. Nothing spectacular. The entree is described as coming on a bed of dirty rice. I wouldn't call it a bed. Perhaps a crib but definitely not a bed. The mushrooms (side) were nothing special. They were sautéed but not much flavor. The fish was cooked well and it was light and flaky. Our server was attentive. The ambiance is of an upscale sports bar. The bill arrived and the suggestion for tips factors in the tax (which was $10). I don't tip for tax and it shouldn't have been added to the tip amount. Food was 4/5. Service 5/5. Recommend based on our experience tonight. Service was good. We had the fried alligator appetizer. It was good. I ordered the bourbon glazed pork chop and my husband ordered the hot boiled shrimp. Both were good, really enjoyed the vegetable kabob side. My husband ordered the flaming bananas foster dessert. It was okay- lots of rum in it. Satisfied overall. read more

All the food we had was delicious. Between all of us we had gator bites, bang bang shrimp, oysters, crab bisque, steak and fries, and the Cajun plater. Waitress was nice and we even had live meals sick to listen too which was a surprise for us as we are from out of town. I would come back if we are ever back in the area. read more

HEAR THIS! I go to Redbones during Happy Hour and get fried crawfish tales, one crab cake, spinach dip, a wine, a beer and oysters. As we were eating the food, I had bitten into a crawfish bite pulling out of my mouth with a blind hair within the batter! DISGUSTING, we lost our appetite. Manager came ti table . Apologized and took off crawfish and discounted the ticket for 15%. Mind you I told him we would not be eating the rest because it paused and spoiled our appetites. I told him a 15% discount? Really? I agreed to pay for the drinks but why would I pay for the rest when we didn't eat the rest after their employee's filthy hair in the food. NASTY. read more

Had a horrible dining experience here tonight. Traveling for work and read so many good things but when I arrived, it was kinda slow but yet took awhile to get seated and then even longer for server to come over. The main issue however was the value of an appetizer for what you got and then the rudeness of the "manager"- Shane. It was $15 for a small plate of "gator bites". When Shane came over, he immediately was brusque and got defensive. He argued with me about his cost but then admitted it was half the price during Happy Hour. Even server quietly said "I didn't expect that was going to go well". Obviously Shane has anger issues and no customer service skills. WILL NOT BE BACK. read more

Visiting on a business trip and found this local gem with a laid back and humble ambiance! Our server Katelyn was an amazing server that gave us detailed answers about the menu and drinks. The alligator piss taste like a sour starburst and mask the alcohol well. My favorite was the steak with dirty rice, it was tender and tastes like carne asada. I left my sunglasses on the table after dining and remembered in the morning so I came back the next morning without prior notice and the hostess (a different Katelyn) answered the door 5mins before opening to go find my sunglasses and she found them!!! I have a house in Jackson but live up north . I spend every 6 or 8 weeks in Jackson and spend that time eating out and one of the best places ever is redbones . Shane the manager is very accommodating Dana the bartender is the sweetest thing ever and remembers us every single time we're here . The newer chef will is amazing the food was spectacular and always is . I've never had even remotely a bad experience. And the entertainment they have is every bit as good as Nashville!!!! read more

There was only one bartender on duty and she was way overwhelmed. She had a smile and continued to plug through it until she got some help but you could tell she was a little frazzled. We happened upon Redbone's Grill and Bar as we were passing through. Delicious food and great service! I had the fried catfish and also gumbo; another person in our group had a burger and said it was very good! Kirk was our server and was attentive and very personable. An added bonus was that a band started performing part way through our time there, which we really enjoyed. Highly recommend and can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in Jackson! read more

Not great. Not terrible, but generally and mildly disappointing. Not to be an obnoxious Gulf Coaster, but it's about what you'd expect from a Gulf Coast seafood restaurant that's this far inland and doesn't charge enough to get top ingredients or chefs. Everything is just okay, but we're talking Cajun seafood so "just okay" is never enough. Cajun seafood should be fresh, vibrant, spicy, and exciting. This food is none of those things. read more

We stopped on a roadtrip from Little Rock AR to Murfreesboro TN. We got hungry and thought we'd give it a try. I had the funky chicken sandwich. Huge!!! It comes with fries too. Hubby had the fried catfish, turnip greens and sweet potato. You will not be disappointed. read more

Had the WORST late lunch at Redbone. Went to join friends who had already ordered, and when we asked for menus, the server was visibly annoyed. Our server was rude from that point on, the few times she would come to our table. Our food took forever to come, was cold when it finally arrived and we had to stand up from our table to get our check. We could have walked out without paying and no one would have known. When I asked for our check, the manager asked how our meal was and I said " terrible". She shrugged her shoulders and said "sorry". The restaurant was NOT busy...servers were standing around talking. Ate at Redbone's today and our server "Kirk" was excellent! I took my wife there for her birthday and Kirk was intertwining, professional and approachable. Very knowledgeable about all the menu items. We ordered some " starters" which were very delicious; fried avocado with pico de gallo drizzled with a sauce ( so darn good!), then a crawfish dip and shrimp - all were so good, flavorful! Then our main dish was the shrimp & grits........ Devine! So much flavor, great sauce and lots of shrimp, what an excellent dish! You can not do wrong!! First time visit. We were seated and waited on promptly. Another waitress checked to make sure we had been waited on when we were waiting on our drinks. I wish I could remember our waitress' name. She was excellent and training a new server. Our glasses were kept full. They checked on us frequently. The food was very good. Typical bar food with a Cajun twist. Got the blackened red fish. It was fine. About what you'd expect. Service was great. Beer cold enough.
