Dumplins has been a restaurant my family and I have enjoyed for so many years now! Their starter bread and strawberry butter are absolutely divine. I find myself craving their strawberry butter often. I ordered their Tuesday special of cheese quiche and a side of their chicken and rice soup (the BEST soup I have ever had). Look, I can't tell you anything about their soups or salads. I've got nothing to say about their sandwiches. But let me tell you this...that strawberry cake is single handedly the greatest thing you'll ever eat in your life. Trust me on this. The chicken soup is devine everyone. It has a slight curry kick to it that was so unexpected but delicious. The casseroles all taste the same pretty much. The are ok. The chicken in them is very dry. But they all taste like a chicken cream of summin based casserole. The daily specials are not good. Not a single one if them. Now I have to say they have the BEST creamed potatoes in town. My daughter love Friday's potato casserole and the Mac n cheese is hit or miss. The fruit tea is refreshing. Basically this place needs revamping and updated menu items. It's the same stuff from I'd guess the 80s. The serving stuff is nice. The front counter workers are snotty and have holier than thou attitudes. My kids call this a fuu fuu place. Rich old people food. The cakes are ok, last one I got the frosting was real sugar grainy. read more

The fruit tea and rolls were pretty good. I ordered the poppy seed chicken casserole and chicken and rice soup. The casserole lacked seasoning and the rice soup had curry in it so it wasn't my favorite because of personal preference. I don't like curry flavor. Had I known, I would have ordered something different. I ordered a strawberry cake to go and it was a little too wet and dense for my liking but it did have real strawberry flavor and not artificial. The server was very nice and attentive. The prices seemed a little high but I know we are in a time of inflation and that's out of the restaurants control if they plan on making a profit. Overall, it's probably something to try if you are in the area as they have a lot of options on the menu and not just what I ate. All of the cakes also look amazing and would be worth trying. read more

What a great place! Went on a Friday night for dinner and it was empty! Service was fantastic and so was the food! Lots of options on the menu! Bread and butter was fantastic! My family and I loved this adorable bistro. We were passing by the Jackson area and needed lunch. All dining rooms in the area were closed due to the coronavirus epidemic. We ordered take out and had a wonderful car picnic under a tree. All of the food we ordered was delicious. The rolls and strawberry butter were an unexpected treat. Passing thru Jackson and found them on Yelp and decided to try it out. My wife had chicken and dumplings, which she loves, and I had chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and their pineapple casserole. Chicken and dumplings were like canned Sweet Sue dumplings; nothing special. My pot pie was very good and hot but my mashed potatoes were tasty but served cold. The pineapple casserole was hot and very good. The yeast rolls were great....and hot. The ambiance was very pleasant until some older middle aged guy came in, obviously the big boss, and started talking in a loud voice in the kitchen adjacent to the dining room. That destroyed the pleasant atmosphere. The tension in the wait staff was palpable. Our server was great and very pleasant. We will not stop in again while passing thru Jackson. read more

Food is basic bland and I won't be going back. Once I put in my order I literally got my food within 2 min which shocked me. I ordered a quiche and the dough was chewy and not cooked all the way through had to return it. The chicken noodle soup was good . I changed my order to a tuna sandwich which was so dry and also couldn't eat it but didn't want to make them feel bad so I said to have them make it to go. The server was amazing and very friendly. We ordered the strawberry cake for an event. We got 1/2 sheet cake for the event. Since it was also two layers, it was a lot for 60 people. It was so good. It was so bright and the strawberry flavor was so concentrated that it shown through. We got so many wonderful comments about the cake. It was sweet so, small pieces are the key but, it was delightful! The day we picked up the cake, we ate lunch! Three of us had the salads, I had the orange chicken salad. It was the best salad I have ever tasted. I easily could have drank the orange yogurt dressing. It tasted like a cream-sickle! Two others had the Crispy Apple grilled chicken salad and raved about the apple vinaigrette dressing! The service was wonderful and the owner even came over to talk to us to make sure we were happy. First of all, the rolls are absolutely amazing. We went for lunch, got chicken & dumplings and chicken divan casserole, and had high expectations after those rolls. Honestly, it was all very average. The dumplings were good but the chicken was over cooked and the flavor was nothing special. Not to mention, the atmosphere is straight out of hobby lobby, which is just not something I'm into. I definitely don't plan on going back for lunch. However, we didn't try the dessert & if it's anything like those rolls, I have a feeling it's some dang good cake. read more

I really miss Dumplin's in Nashville and Franklin. Years ago, we had multiple locations and you could stop in for a comforting casserole, amazing rolls, and great desserts while enjoying the perfect fruit tea. But no longer, all the Middle TN locations closed. But Jackson remains. Thank goodness. I have family in Memphis, so if we are heading over for a holiday meal, a dozen of their amazing yeast rolls is definitely in the plans. And strawberry butter - yum! Dumplin's has the perfect Poppyseed Chicken Casserole. I can now replicate it at home with rave reviews, but my benchmark while experimenting to find the exact combination of ingredients was Dumplin's. It's all delicious and it's just the cutest little shop anywhere, so definitely stop in if you can. read more

Dumplin's of Jackson is a hidden gem located on Highland next to Sister's and Taylor's Jewelry. I always try to go on Tuesday or Sunday because they serve Chicken and Dressing as their special. They generally have a casserole special everyday along with a quiche special. I've never been disappointed with any of their specials. Oh, and be sure to try the fruit tea! I've also ordered the soup and salad, which is a great lunch meal. If you're needing a cake for a special occasion, their strawberry cake is delicious. They do great decorations, too! Charming little restaurant in Jackson. I grew up in Jackson, eating here occasionally. The most memorable item served is the ROLLS with their house strawberry butter!!!!! The desserts are divine. Years after I moved away, I had my engagement party here for my family and hometown friends. Great place for an intimate event (no alcohol served here though). And a great bakery for ordering a beautiful cake that is also tasty! read more

This five stars might just be because I miss Dumplins so much, not having lived in Jackson for like four years now. Who knows. What I do know is that I still think about the GIANT, puffy rolls with strawberry butter, the chicken and rice soup that is the standard by which I measure all other chicken and rice soup, and the chicken tetrazzini. Are there any places around here that offer a soup of the day AND a casserole of the day? Am I wrong or is there no good place to get casserole in Memphis? Sometimes you NEED casserole, right? The desserts at Dumplins are also fantastic and enormous. It is a girly restaurant though. Any heterosexual boys that you bring here will probably require a post-dinner Taco Bell run. read more

We're in town for a few days and trying to avoid chain restaurants and fast food. I thought Dumplin's might be a good choice, because it is locally owned. The girl who greeted us seemed frazzled as she seated us. We were right beside the kitchen door in a crowded, busy area. The tables had white tablecloths topped with stained, frayed burlap placemats, topped with glass. For more than 5 minutes, we waited to be greeted by a server, and then it took several more minutes to get our drinks. The restaurant was busy, and our waiter seemed inexperienced and flustered. My son said the rolls were delicious. He enjoyed the chili, which he said was spicy. He also had the chicken and dumplings and said they were pretty good, but there were no vegetables in the dish. I asked the waiter if the broccoli soup was vegetarian, and he assured me it was. After I started eating the soup, I realized it was chicken and rice. It took some time to flag him down. He apologized and brushed off his mistake, not seeming to care that he had served chicken soup when I had specifically asked for something vegetarian. A woman brought the broccoli soup a few minutes later. It was mostly cheese sauce, with very little broccoli. I also had the strawberry & goat cheese salad, which was pretty good. The goat cheese ball was rolled in sweetened coconut. If you like sweet, southern food without a lot of nutritional value, this is a great place. If you're looking for a healthful meal with excellent service, keep looking. read more

What a great place! I went later in the afternoon and it was nice and quiet. The service was fast and the food really good. I had the pecan walnut salad with chicken. The salad itself was delicious. The chicken was a touch over cooked and the salad would have been just as good without it. I also had the lemon ice box pie and yum!! A varied menu selection - sandwiches to more traditional entree's. I'll definitely go back when I'm in town and have encouraged a local friend to try it out. read more

I come here about once every other week to meet my Wife for lunch. If she didn't like it, I would never come back. It's just to fru fru and feminine for me. Don't get me wrong, if your a Woman, Gay Guy or just someone, hell bent on contracting diabetes, you'll probably love it here. The daily home made yeast rolls are very good and the meatloaf and cabbage which you can only get on Mondays is pretty good. The chicken that's in their casseroles and salads is very bland and not good at all. They do have supposedly homemade desserts but I seldom eat desserts in restaurants so I can't give an honest opinion on their sweets. I will say though that the service is very good here and they do a good job of getting you in and out in a timely manor. However, this is just my opinion and you should try it for yourself. ... memo to Men... come with a female companion or you might feel awkward. read more
