We were experiencing problems with our AC in 2018. The unit was running far too long and the…read moresupply air was not "chilled." We called Comfort Mechanical to diagnose, and fortunately I have an engineering background and did my senior project on refrigeration systems. I knew the system was likely just low on refrigerant due to a system leak. CM's tech came out and performed the superheat/subcool diagnostics and recommended recharging. So far so good. Unfortunately I asked about performing a leak detection and the tech shrugged his shoulders. He said it wasn't needed and suggested the leak was due to an old compressor coil and that we really needed to replace it at a cost of $4000. I told him we would wait to see what happens. Fast forward to 2019 - same symptoms and we called another HVAC firm. This new firm came out, diagnosed low coolant, showed me the TX sensing bulb was disconnected AND performed a leak detection which immediately showed a leaky recharge valve. They repaired and recharged everything for the same price as CM's recharge. Fast forward to 2020 - everything still running perfectly. We just checked the temperature drop between supply and return vents and the unit is cooling as well as last year (22 degree drop) with same outside temp and humidity conditions. So I can't prove the reason for Comfort Mechanical's motivation in not checking for the source of the coolant leak, and for not pointing out the obvious disconnected TXV temp sensing bulb. Maybe he was lazy or not proficient in HVAC repair -- but he was sure willing and ready to sell us a new $4000 compressor we didn't need. (and now have the proof) Either way, it's not the type of help you'd want to expect

He observed there was a lot of offset tension on the gas line connection to the furnace due its improper installation when the furnace was originally installed. He used a flexible gas line connector to alleviate the issue (see photo) and was very meticulous to ensure the new pipe had no leaks. Furthermore, he applied additional stabilizers to ensure the pipe was properly secured. I certainly appreciate his attention to detail and his outstanding professionalism to make my furnace safer and more efficient. Griffin Halls demonstrated superior skills and willingness to go the extra distance to help his customers brings great credit upon himself and the Good Guys HVAC company. 5 STARS! Our dog destroyed our furnace's air return duct…read moreboard, ripping it out of the ceiling. We called King's and we're told they would get us on the list. Brian and another technician came out pretty quick, and after their initial shock at the extent of damage (they thought, they were coming to do a patch job) they fabricated a new air return duct out of sheet metal and installed it. Our house is only 3 years old, but there is a stark difference in the work quality between the company that installed the furnace in the new home and King's. I have used King's for all my heating and plumbing needs for over 40 years. I am retired military and have been all over the country and experienced many good and bad heating and plumbing companies. King's is by far the best I have ever dealt with. I'm deeply suspicious anytime I see them rated under 5 stars. 5 STARS!
