Twice through the years I've had to see precious elderly pets put to sleep at the Dundee Animal Hospital of Algonquin - one mine a few years ago and one my son's, today. I am so impressed with the staff, especially Dr. Mark Rusley and Dr. Kelly Lathrop. I could not ask for more caring and efficient vets. I even got a hug each time as I left, bless you, Dr. Kelly. My cat was ill. In the end, we end up taking him to the specialist. He was hospitalized and discharged four days later. I was told to bring him back for follow-up. Due to my work and long distance, I couldn't bring him back to the hospital. They said I can take him to my primary vet instead. I made an appointment with this place. They asked what that for. So I explained what the purpose of the visit was. Then the appointment was made. When just about I was going to take him, they called. And now the doctor refused to check on him. Her explanation was that he was under care by the specialist; I should take him back to the doctor. But I explained that they told me I could take him to his primary doctor. From there, the conversation has turned ugly! The representative was very rude! She was arrogant, spoke over me, and extremely unprofessional. I called to the hospital where he was treated. They did not understand why this doctor has turned me away. He can be examined by my primary one. Why did they accept the appointment in the first place then? I had to leave my work just to take him in, and at the very last moment, they refused. Their rudeness (it has been going on for a long time) is not just one thing. Their ridiculous or overcharging fees are taking a toll on me. I had enough. From now on, I must take all of my beloved fur babies to another animal hospital. read more

My dog ate a quarter of a oatmeal cookie that had raisins. Took him in and they told me that they would have to induce vomiting. We had called poison control and they said the same thing. They took my dog back, and I asked if I could run my kids to a sports activity, and the insisted that it would take 10 minutes and I needed to wait, thus I did. They were very nice and professional, and it actually took 25 minutes which was fine, kids missed practice, but oh well. But then they charged me over $350. Wish I could find a job that paid around a $1000 an hour! No excuses, don't care if you are an emergency room, 20 min of work does not justify that! read more

Dr Kamholtz is a great vet. She has looked after my schnoodle and guided us through diabetes, cataracts and a toe needing amputation. I would recommend her to anyone. And the staff that work there are so nice and friendly read more

$150 for every exam, even checkups for chronic health issues. They do not remember what procedures, medications, or vaccines your pet has had. Apparently they do not consult their own records. The vet (O'Brien) gave my dog suffering from chronic yeast infections 4-5 pupperoni treats, which are high in artificial sugar and can exacerbate yeast infections. She threw the treats at my dog's face, and didn't stop when my dog didn't catch them. My dog is a rescue and we haven't taught her to catch treats thrown to her. They charge exorbitant prices for mediocre to poor service. If you let them know you can't afford it, they act patronizing and unprofessional toward you. Other local vets charge ~$75 for exams. You can use Uber Pet if you don't have a car (~$10). read more

I have used Dundee Animal Hospital in the past when emergencies warranted. we got a new Great Pyrenees puppy and decided to use them as a regular vet for our new addition. Jane began yelling at me because my puppy had peed in the front waiting area. It was raining outside and he obviously smelled other dogs as he sniffed everywhere. she asked me to wait outside !! jane had decided he was acting like an unneutured dog. Which was incorrect. Jane was so upset at me because "they had just gotten new floors ". all over for a mail trim that went bad. What if Jane was the one who took my dog in back. How would she have treated him for peeing. Ugh. Bonnie credited me for the nail trim but I was in tears from being so embarrassed that I would and could never go back. So many other vetenarians out there to choose from. bewarned of unprofessional Jane ! read more

This review is a few weeks over due! I took my Pit Tyson to be seen, he had a growth on his chest and was dealing with some ear issues as well. Due to covid restrictions still, I had to wait in the car. He was collected from outside by a happy person which made me and Tyson happy. I was called on the phone to address everything that was going on. Dr. Moderhack was awesome! She was thorough and spot on with everything! Everyone was amazing from scheduling to the technician. Tysons allergies are finally under control and he is doing amazing, I now have a formative plan going forward. I highly recommend them! Thank you for the fantastic care! I called Dundee Animal Hospital at 8:00 pm to let them know that I was coming with my puppy because I have noticed something on her neck that looked like a dried up blood clot or a tick. They told me not to come since it was not considered an emergency. They told me to take care of the problem by myself. read more

I've been going here a long time, but after an ignorant and incorrect diagnosis of stroke over the phone, instead of recommending an emergency appointment, I think I'm done. I don't know what's going on here other than irresponsible negligence. There are a lot of other better veterinarians in the area. read more

I brought my dog Charlie in for a second opinion to see Dr. Kamholz back in February for a skin infection and a weird growth on his paw pad. Dr. Kamholz spent the time to go over each of my concerns and take them seriously. Right away she ordered labs and skin scrapes (more than my previous vet had done in almost 8 months of back and forth). It was determined Charlie needed his toe amputated, which I was very scared and nervous for. Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - from the receptionists to the multiple doctors who saw Charlie, the surgeon, to the vet techs... they were all amazing and went above and beyond to provide the care my dog needed. They even went so far as to teach me how to properly wrap his paw after surgery so I could do it myself. My family has been bringing our dogs here my entire life and this was the first big medical issue I had to deal with my own dog and it was so reassuring to see the care we received. Four months later Charlie is all healed, happy, healthy and running around like normal. I don't think he even notices he's missing a toe! They are nice folks, seem to care about pets. But I just found out they charge $60.75 for each and every puppy exam, and two other local vets are both $32.95. They charged me $30.50 for Distemper/Lepto and both other vets are $12.00. I'd be really nice if you charged me twice the competition too! read more

My first words about everyone at Dundee Animal Hospital is they are incredible!!!!! When I moved to the neighborhood, it took me 2 years to find a vet to replace the one I drove back to that was 32 miles away. Thanks to a friends referral. They are very friendly, helpful and supportive of my 2 Yorkie 4 legged children. I just added a new member to my family a 12 week old Siberian kitten. The Doctors were so gentle with him and the Front desk all loved him as well. My dog was refused to be seen at the office she has been at for 3 years in any emergency situation she was in horrible pain and instead of a5 min ride they made me take her on a25 minute ride. She was admitted over night to manage pain at another location. I was told the Algonquin location was booked for the day and could not see he. I would understand if this was after hours, but not at 2 in the afternoon. Guess they care more about getting off on time than the animals. I have been a loyal patron for 15 years and this is what we got. No stars if I could. read more

I have been taking my babies to Dr. Huebner since 1986, and will continue to do so! Customer Service is next to none and I couldn't ask for a better doctor then Dr. Huebner. I live 45 minutes away and will not consider try out a new doctor. read more

The Algonquin office has been my go-to vet for many years. Dr. Kamholz and Dr. Rusley have stood us in good stead through good times and bad. I trust them (and that didn't come easy). I have been bringing my dog to see Dr. O'Brien for 14 years and would never go anywhere else. Dr. O'Brien has always been great with my dog and has known her since she was 3 months old. She is great at returning calls - even on her days off. The entire staff is so friendly and great with my dog. The environment is very clean. I am sorry to say that I have had to make use of their emergency line one on occasion. The person on the line was helpful and tried to tell me what to do. They had a stretcher type of devise for when I finally got there. The staff was very calm and professional the entire time. They went above and beyond what was needed as far as medical testing to diagnose the problem. I wouldn't hesitate to put my dog's life in their hands again. read more

The office staff, techs and Vets are the BEST in the area. We go to Dr Obrien & love her. Between the 24 hr emergency care and the prompt follow up calls - these are folks who truly care about your pet. They become part of your pet family. Can always get right in for last minute appointments, we are never rushed and all of our questions are always answered. read more

We have been taking our pets here for 4 years now. Dr. O'Brien is our favorite. She is up to date on current medical needs for our pets. Always gives the best advice. I have had two cats that I took to Dundee Animal Hospital. We started with them when the cats were just kittens. They saw two vets, Dr Rusley and Dr Kamholz. We moved further away, and I tried two other veterinary practices, but was disappointed with both. We decided to make the extra trip back to Dundee Animal Hospital. They are a little more expensive, but they are also very thorough, and if you ever have an emergency, they have your pet's records. I have been to all three locations, and the always take the time for your questions, I have never felt rushed or pushed away as I have by other practices. We have also been able to get in with last minute appointments. Both of my cats have crossed the rainbow bridge, and in both cases I asked if I could be billed, and they allowed it. They are very compassionate and respectful, and I would not hesitate to come back with my future pets. They are worth the extra drive time and higher cost. You get what you pay for. read more

Have been going to this vet for two years, I agree with what other people have said a little on the expensive side. Had my cat in for regular check up found red spot on gum suggested teeth work, but not imperative to schedule immediately. Tonight my cat started crying and was unable to use back legs. Took him immediately and the news was very bad. Blood clot and fluid in his lungs. Suggested he be put down was in a lot of pain. Gave him a shot to relax him so we could be with him comfortable for 10 minutes. Staff member came in wanting to know if I wanted to take care of bill, really. Check or credit card. She said she was sure the doctor would not charge me a office visit, since we were just there. Wrote check for $135 and she said hang on, left came back in and said sorry that will be $295, Doctor is charging you, sorry, Unfortunately,, I have had to put my pets down before, I was always billed I was never asked if I wanted to pay while my cat is being put to sleep. Never using them again. Compassion is lacking. read more
