I am writing this because I genuinely support local Santa Barbara businesses and want them to succeed. On June 5th between approximately 9:00 AM and 9:15 AM, at State st location, I ordered a Strawberry Milk Matcha at the State Street location. The drink I received looked significantly different from the advertised product and appeared improperly prepared. When I politely asked about it, the employee immediately became defensive and repeatedly insisted that the drink was correct instead of taking a moment to understand the concern. Fortunately, another employee stepped in and offered to remake the drink, which I appreciated. What disappointed me most was the customer service. When I asked the employee for his name so I could provide feedback, he told me that I did not need to know his name and that it was irrelevant for me to know. I found that response surprisingly unprofessional. Mistakes happen. Drinks can be remade. What matters is how customers are treated when they raise concerns respectfully. I spoke with a manager afterward, who apologized for my experience, but I left feeling that the issue was minimized rather than truly addressed. I choose local businesses over large chains whenever possible. That's exactly why this experience was disappointing. I hope this feedback is taken constructively because Dune has built a strong reputation in our community and I would like to see that standard upheld. read more

Just walked into Dune at 4:07. I'm guessing they closed at 4, but you wouldn't know that, as there were still patrons spread around the space. As I walked in, someone on the retail side of the counter, who was talking with the barista at his post to work... said, "we are closed" I questioned "you are closed?", the barista scoffs "yeah!" It feels very modern but still has the charming architecture of Santa Barbara. We got the tres leches latte, an iced vanilla oat latte, and a bacon breakfast burrito. Came on Monday afternoon around 2 and it was actually still pretty busy! It's right on the main strip of state st though. They only have indoor seating. We got the matcha latte with almond milk ($.75 upcharge for almond). Their menu is pretty standard but they did have some seasonal fall drinks and also had an interesting sounding miso hojicha drink. We went to Dune Coffee Roasters on State Street during a weekend getaway with two other couples, and this place absolutely hit the mark. The day before, we stopped at Handlebar for matcha, but it was honestly really watered down and just not great. So the next day we gave Dune Coffee a try, and wow, this was exactly what we were anticipating in terms of flavor and quality. The ceremonial grade strawberry matcha was phenomenal. Hands down one of the best matchas we have ever had. They actually use real strawberries that are crushed into it, and it even had this strawberry dust sprinkled on top. The flavor was so smooth, not too bitter, not too sweet, just perfect. My wife and I are total matcha connoisseurs down in Orange County, and we were blown away by this one. The drinks were gone within seconds. Our friends that were with us own a coffee shop, and even they were super impressed with the espresso and how fresh and flavorful the beans were. You can tell this is a true coffee place where they care about the craft and the quality. We also grabbed a croissant and a chocolate croissant, both really flaky and delicious. Not sure if they were made in-house, but they tasted like they were. Everything from the drinks to the pastries was just on point. If you are visiting Santa Barbara and want a spot that actually takes pride in what they make, this is it. We will 100 percent be coming back every time we are in town! We popped into Dune coffee on State Street for a quick pick me up as we needed to kill some time before an event. Our friend Jess noted this spot was good and she's our SB Queen so we trusted her judgment. Wandered inside and while it's a little narrow and small upfront, If you go towards the back there is more seating and restrooms. The decor in here is cute and inviting. Nice pops of color making it an inviting space and seemed hip which is perfect in this area with competing businesses. I love their logo, stickers, and coffee bags - definitely their merch and coffee bags would make for a good gift. I wanted something refreshing and light to drink so I went with their strawberry lemonade. No frills but I knew it would hit the spot. Sure enough, it was a great cup of lemonade. Happy to see the barista made it fresh with real Strawberry purée and visually it was pretty, nice coloring. The staff here were nice and I appreciated that they got us in and out pretty quick. dune on state street has lived multiple lives and somehow kept its center back when it was the french press i asked for the wifi password and got a direct "we are not an internet café" like a rule carved into something permanent today i walk in, order an americano (always), sit down, open the laptop, and instantly connect to what is now clearly one of the great internet cafés in santa barbara which i understand they will not like me calling it but facts are facts space is still dialed. minimal in a way that makes every movement feel louder. cups set down with intention. people adjusting posture without realizing americano was exact. no noise. no extra. just clean coffee doing its job at a high level guy behind the counter was locked in. didn't catch the name but pretty sure it was barron sawyer. had that calm presence like he could deny wifi in one era and enable it in another without losing sleep crowd is fascinating some people actually working. others performing work at an elite level. a few just sitting there like they've decided to become part of the room and it all holds together what's impressive is they added internet and somehow didn't lose control of the environment still feels like you have to meet the place halfway which is rare for an internet café of this caliber five stars would connect again and pretend not to read more

Pick up a bag of whole bean Zip Zinger (or anything you can find) and make yourself a cup at home. It's ethereal. Simply put, Dune checks off all the boxes I look for in coffee: top-notch quality, clean-but-unpretentious branding and atmosphere, a focus on the best beans, and a company that truly cares about the quality of their product.
