was charged $100 dolllars and the lawnmower performed worse after picking up, customer service was TERRIBLE

I was sold a self propel mower for $280 that was fit to use for the season, just bring back for a tuneup before storage. It started to eat the drive belts two months into owning it and I sent it in for repair. They said "your belt is shot", and going to cost $250 to fix. When I went to collect my now very heavy push mower I was told they don't really "do" self propel. My FIL is looking at it now and found that the oil wasn't changed before it was sold, and there's a nut caulked to the deck being used as a spacer, which is likely what caused the arm resting on it to break. I don't think they did that, but I'm sure they knew when they tuned it up that it was like that. I won't be back. read more

We took two generators and a snow blower in for service when we couldn't get them started after a long time sitting in the garage. They were able to fix two of them but after putting quite a bit of time in on the larger generator, they were unable to get it running. I expected a "diagnostic fee" but they didn't charge me anything for that one. Staff was all very nice, and even helped me get everything in and out of my car. I highly recommend them. read more

I had been a customer for many years until today. Each year the owner (Ted) would pick up my riding mower in March, do a full tune up & bring it back which included a delivery fee. This year he claimed he'd need to replace a leaking gasket & there would be an additional charge. I was fine with that. Following the repair, white smoke poured from the engine the first 10 minutes or so. When I called his shop to tell him, he said I'd have to take it elsewhere & that he wasn't doing any more riding mowers. He refused to fix the problem, even though I had paid him for the repairs. The mower is now worse than before. When I asked if he'd honor his work & at least look at it, he told me "no", then yelled at me & hung up on me. Honestly, I think he's a troubled man. Two lawnmowers dead as a door nail. One we didn't keep up the oil, the other I tried to repair and went too far. Do we buy a new cheap mower, we have a small yard? Or do we risk the pricing and timing of a local repair shop? For less than the price of a cheap mower Dunham Sales & Service fixed our mowers and did it with next day service. We got them home and tested the freshly washed nearly looking new mowers and are pleased to have two machines working again. Please READ ALL Since the Covid 19 pandemic my wife and I have made every effort to support local businesses. A colleague raved about Dunham and strongly suggested that I take my mower in for repair. He told they tuned up his mower and sharpened the blade for $70. A very nice and small framed female assisted me getting my mower out; to have the pull rope replaced. She called a guy who quickly walked over and quoted me a price of $50. I responded "that's a lot for a simple job." He replied "if you don't like the price, leave!" (as he turned and walked away). The nice female remained near by and insisted on helping me place the mower back into my SUV. I commended her for her awesome customer service and voiced my negative thoughts about my experience with the guy who rudely disregarded me as a hardworking consumer. She remained nice and attempted to excuse the guy and his rudeness. She did a great job at that. My thoughts were also with my wife and our plight to support small businesses. For the moment the good outweighed the bad. I told the lady that I was going to leave mower to be fixed (for the $50) despite the rude behavior of the guy. As I turned to get the mower I looked over and that same guy was waving a red aluminum baseball bat at me, telling me to leave. I approached him and asked why was waving a bat at me. He cowardly backed away a stated "I'm calling the police now" That man who also claimed to be the owner, disappeared and refused come out and speak with me. I informed him that I just happened to be the police and his behavior was profoundly racist. A white business owner demanding that a black male leave the lot; took me to place in time that I've only read about. The police reached me via cell phone (I had given name/cell to the lady for the work order) I explained the ordeal to the officer after letting him know that I was a police sergeant with over 26 years of service. I will never use them & will never send any one to them. They would not take their own mower back!!. Used 2 times & it was not doing the job. He would not even look at his own mower, told me to not bother removing it from car. They don't do take backs. On me, lesson learned & $125 gone. The guy looked hung over. read more

As far as repairs go, this place is top notch. I've taken my lawnmower in there twice in ten years and they always resolve my issue. This last time I told them my issues, they quoted me a price of $100 for a tune up and replaced a couple of parts for no charge. They're the best! read more

If you are in need of a Spring Tune-up on your old mower, or are looking for a great refurbished mower, Dunham should be your go to place. I have a 3 year old Craftsman push model, that I hadn't done much to take care of. By the end of last season it was running a little rough. I was having issues wkth a 1 yr old mower that wouldn't start. I tried calling big chain where I purchased it originally and they told me to call the manufacturer. I cant wait for slow service whrm my yard is getting taller by the minute so I consulted my neighbor who recommended I visit Dunham Sales & Service - I'm so glad she did! The owner and one of the workers were very helpful and were able to troubleshoot and find the problem. In addition to this, they identified that the factory blade was very dull and were able to sharpen it right then and there. The price was very fair, the staff were super friendly while staying knowledgeable and the shop is independently owned which I appreciate. They also sell a lot of mowers - next time I'll just start and buy one here as they know their stuff! If you're having an issue with any small engine equipment or looking to find something new, you should definitely give these guys a try!!! read more

These guys are awesome. They know their craft. They get their work done quickly. And they are a lot of fun to talk to! They fixed my mower in a few hours; got it working like new when another shop told me I should have scrapped it. They also fixed a used scooter that I brought them. I called a few other places, including scooter shops, and they wouldn't even look at a used scooter for under $300. These guys went way above and beyond what I expected...and they only charged me $200!! They dissected the entire scooter and troubleshooted a variety of issues, ordered parts, fixed the problems, and sent me home with a like-new scooter. I was amazed. We will send all our friends and family to Dunham for small engine repair needs. They rock. read more

Ron was very polite when I talked to him over the phone before and after my service. After, I dropped my lawn mower off for service, Ron called me back to tell that the lawnmower was shot. I ran over something which I told Ron as I dropped it off. That ruined my mower. I appreciate the honesty. Like I said, he was very polite. read more

I can't say enough about how happy I am to have taken my power equipment to Ted Dunham and his mechanic Ron. I had piled up about ten pieces of gear that I was going to repair myself, in some cases I had gotten the parts which Ted took and used. Very disappointed! I went in there to see about getting a part for Briggs & Stratton engine on my push mower! There were 3 businesses that recommended Dunham, but after getting there, he wouldn't even try to order the part, unless I brought the mower in for him to repair! I use metro, and have no way to get mower there, too far to walk! He was sure to point out how many days it would take for him to get to it, but even though I had the broken part, he wouldn't even try! I did find a nice person to help me at another shop!! Guess he didn't need any more business! I won't go back for anything, and won't recommend Dunham!! read more

Crooks. They steal parts off of the equipment you bring in and replace with old cheaper parts. If you take your equipment in take note of what you get back... very bad way of running a business! read more

Came in and explained my mower woudl start and then die immediately. They said it just needed a tune up. over a week later picked it up. it started, halfway through the first use it died again. They never fixed the problem and got my $100 read more
