What's happened over at Dunn's? Since this last change in ownership, the range of services offered has declined. I needed a piece of wood cut to 26", they sent me to the service counter, (which is in the back of the store...most inconvenient for those of us who have difficulty walking), and after waiting 10 minutes to be helped, a very kind young man told me that they don't provide that service. Dunn hardware is a complete rip-off. Not only are their prices exorbitantly high, but their customer service is abysmal. I had a 15 off of $75 coupon that I tried to use, only to be told by the cashier that I couldn't because one item in my cart was supposedly on sale. Spoiler alert: it wasn't on sale, the regular shelf price and the so-called sale price were the same. When I asked her about it she then claimed that some items just don't qualify for discounts. Well, excuse me for expecting to be able to use a coupon for over $100 worth of items in my cart. Instead of trying to accommodate me or even just apologize for the confusion, the cashier basically told me to take it up with the manager. What kind of customer service is that? If Dunn hardware is going to have outrageous prices and coupons with ridiculous fine print, they should at least have the decency to honor them. They fix things! Our old ( 15-20yr) snowblower was acting up. After looking around at the price of new ones ( and even availability), we wanted to see if we could have this one fixed. Dunn was able to send someone to the house with a trailer, from Mobile Mower Rescue. The tech did an oil change, fuel flush, new spark plugs, new belt, adjusted the scraper bar and skid shoes, inflated the tires, and changed the auger belt. Long story short, the thing works now. ALL OF THIS COST LESS THAN 80 BUCKS. Just the delivery charge for a new snowblower was 90 bucks at another place. Needless to say, we're happy with the result. read more

What a nice neighborhood gem. The staff is always helpful and pleasant. Most recently I had been looking for sulfur powder everywhere. I even purchased online for a store pick up at one of the big box stores; only for them to email me hours later that they really didn't have the item. Finally I went on the Dunn website and found actual options. They didn't have any in stock at the store, but I was able to purchase online with free ship to store. They set the pickup date for 5 days, but it came in 4. The entire process was painless and I ended up saving money and getting triple the amount of product. Helpful tip: If you do store pickup don't go all the way to the checkout and wait in line like I did. Very convenient and pleasant home improvement store to shop at! They always offer freshly popped popcorn at the entrance and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They have a variety of products ranging from inexpensive to on the nicer end. For example this is one of the only retailers in the area that offers Benjamin Moore paint. I like that this is a smaller store - if you need to run in and grab something quickly, you'll save a lot of time compared to going to one of the larger warehouse type home improvement stores. read more

I usually have very good service at this hardware store. They have a lot of inventory and are pretty helpful if not always knowledgeable. They have a lot of parts for old radiator heating systems. Paint selection is good. They can color match anything. Propane exchange is twenty bucks. The guy will load your car in the back of the store. Large selection of lawn and gardening supplies. Service staff is great. A lot of plumbing supplies. Tool selection is good. Lines move very quickly. Get an Ace card and save. Cash and credit. read more

I just discovered Dunn Hardware. I have only lived in Ohio for a couple of years so was unaware of this establishment. Today, while trying to locate some specific cabinet hardware online, the manufacturer had this store listed under 'where to buy'. I browsed Dunn's website and was delighted to see that they sell the better brands of wallpapers, window treatments, and paint as well. They even have wallpaper books which are pretty much an urban legend these days. What a great discovery! This store has everything I've been looking for under one roof. Also, when I looked them up, I noticed they had very high ratings on Yelp. I was intrigued by the high ratings and decided to call. I spoke with a lovely and extremely helpful woman named Judy in the Design department. She graciously checked to see if they had a sample in store of the cabinet hardware I was looking for, as well as the coordinating pieces, so I could actually see the hardware in person before ordering it. She even gave me pricing right over the phone. No game playing. No coyness. Just great, friendly, helpful, customer service. All my problems were pleasantly solved in under three minutes. When you've had your last straw NOT being helped at the Orange or Blue big-box home improvement warehouse, stop into Dunn Hardware. I loved this place at their old location, which is now a Pet Supplies Plus or something, but it's even better at their new one, albeit further from home. Real people who know how shit works and know what shit you need to make your shit work again. How novel. The quaint idea of the neighborhood hardware store lives on in one of Cleveland's worst suburbs, Richmond Heights. One of my favorite parts about Dunn Hardware is Tom, a guy who regularly works the register, or at least used to. I didn't see him last time I went in. Tom is a trip. Over the top friendly, a little louder than anyone should be comfortable with. Talks kind of like Will Ferrel's Harry Caray character on SNL. Speaking of SNL, Tom of Dunn Hardware is actually Tom Shannon, Molly Shannon's brother or cousin or something. Close relation, a good friend of mine who knows the family told me. Could be a story, but it seems plausible. I believe it. Anyway... that's not important right now. This is my kind of hardware store. Help is readily available and the employees know what they're talking about. It's small in size but still has just about everything you could ever need for home improvements. And if they don't have it, they can order it for you. Stopped by the other day to pick up a replacement fuse and I was in and out of the store in 3 minutes. Try finding someone to help you in 3 minutes at any other home improvement store. If I could give this hardware store 0 stars I would. We had a storm window replaced. It started with when they told us they would call us in a week when it was ready. They never called. We picked up the window and brought it home. It sat in the garage overnight and then my husband tried to place it the window. The window cracked in his hands. Mind no one bumped on anything and I had it wrapped in a moving blanket in the car. I took it back. The men there were nothing but RUDE and unhelpful. He gave me several reasons why it was my fault and not his problem!! 0 customer service! One of the reasons he told me was bc we took it from 70 degrees to 30, assuming we had the window indoors, except the window was in the garage the whole night! Our nonprofit organization purchased keys from Dunn Hardware Ace and was charged $2 more dollars than Coventry Ace Hardware store. I spoke with the manager and met with a total lack of interest, concern, and consideration. His explanation, "Ace Hardware stores are independently owned." The cost to make a key should be standard, the quality of the key does not change from store to store. This makes me wonder how much more do I pay for other things at this location in comparison to other locations. read more

Hubby & I've been going to Dunn's for over 25 yrs now Each time we remember why we go. EVERY worker's a specialist - when you need parts info or help, you get a person who KNOWS that field. Ex: my main water supply inlet was leaking. I had the city shut off my water, took off the leaky knob & brought it to Dunn & got exactly the right part [a washer] the 1st time to fix it PLUS detailed instructions on how to put it back correctly. Cost? 25 cents! For real!! It's never leaked since. When the city came back to turn on the water he asked who my plumber was. I said 'ME!" He said I was the 2nd woman that day to fix it her own plumbing and surprise! We'd BOTH gone to Dunn's!!! That's another thing - as a woman many places treat you like you're an idiot, but not Dunn's....they give you 100% respect and are patient in explaining details anytime you need a bit of extra help. Need electrical? You get a worker who's been there, done that & got the T shirt. Same w/ every dept. LOTS of help - you never stand around and wait. Prices are competitive with Home Depot & Lowes [but those stores never have the pros to ensure your work is done right nor do they tell you how to save on repairs]. Many times I've gone in to Dunn's to buy what I thought I needed only to be told to hold up - that what I was going to do was a waste of time, money etc. Then I was sold the right stuff and helped with instructions. I can even call back to ask the pro if I get stuck & need more help. You can keep WalMart - WOULDN'T shop there again if they gave away stuff for free. They force out great US small businesses like Dunn then you're stuck without the competent help, the free troubleshooting & quality items, plus the few bucks you thought you saved at Walmart ALWAYS turn out to have been WASTED: you end up having to do the work all over again because either the stuff was cheap crap from China or the wrong part to begin with. Ex: Dunn'd closed for the evening so I thought I'd see if maybe WalMart had the part. Turned out the toilet connector they carried wasn't pure copper - there was some nickel present (hence the lower price). That part failed just 14 mos later & took out my entire kitchen ceiling (cost me 780.00 in repairs!). The other stores' salesfolk are whoever walked off the street willing to work for peanuts & no benefits. . Dunn's is THE most DEPENDABLE store I've ever been in. I've always got great service, and everyone there who worked in the paint department has always been helpful, and friendly, with an ability to answer questions that has been helpful. Over the years they made only two mistakes that they quickly corrected, with no hassle. Everybody else who works there too outside of the paint department, has been helpful, and kind. I've been going there for many years. Then I moved away, and I have not really been able to find a hardware store anything like it, I found some good ones, but they all come short of Dunn.
