Wonderful store! It was like taking a step back into time. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by two gentleman. The shelves were neatly stocked and they offer exactly what you need. I'm not handy, I don't know what parts or tools I may be looking for to handle something. The guys will find what I need for the job and get me going the right direction. They have an awesome selection of vegetable plants, perennials and annuals come springtime. Great lawnmower service and just about anything else you need. I've heard so many good things about this place and was really excited to come here. The customer service was pretty awful when I walked in. The guy was very unfriendly and shut me down when I asked for help regarding screens. No help what so ever and I felt like I was pissing him off by just being there. Disappointing cause this place seemed really nice. read more

It's a good ole' family hardware store, resembling more of a hunting lounge or log cabin than a typical storefront, situated at the southeastern edge of Old Brooklyn. On the rare occasion that I can't find a screw or bolt that I'm looking for in the house, or the more common scenario, not wanting to waste 30 minutes looking for it in the house and garage, I come here. They don't have everything here [not a lot of wood], but more often than not, they do. The prices are slightly more than home depot, but it saves time and it's easier to get someone's attention here. The guys behind the counter are friendly and you can get a 'do not duplicate' key made here, no questions asked. They're right off I-480, but there's only an exit to there if you're heading westbound. If you're coming through Brooklyn Heights on the way here, watch for the speed traps. read more

South hills hardware is and always has been awesome. They have always loaded my car, greeted me with a smile, given excellent recommendations and advice, etc , etc. the same experts have been helping me for decades. If they don't have it, they order it and its there by Tuesday. I cannot say enough about the greenhouse and the healthy plants, Tony is a treasure of gardening advice as he has been running greenhouses for 30 years.
