The beach itself was nice enough: decent sand, not rocky, not an over abundance of seaweed. That's where the enjoyment ended. That beach had a constant barrage of biting flies that annoy the crap out of you. They are small, relentless,painfully bite, and leave itchy marks where they bite. We stayed for 3 hours to try to get our $14 (parking fee) worth but after that, we left. I'll never go back since I now know those biting flies are an issue there and have been for years. Two thumbs down and I cannot recommend Scusset Beach to any beach goer who wishes to have a lovely day at the beach. Side note : the water was so cold also, with zero waves and contained floating seaweed. Terrible.

The bathroom/showers by the pool were pretty decent but the musty smell was nearly unbearable. I blame it on people not turning the vent on while they shower. It was so gross to use those toilets because of the smell. Additionally, I was unhappy to see so many children driving golf carts, despite the rule that is in place. It's not safe! Two times we were in almost accidents. First time the young girl was driving the golf cart on the wrong side of the road and was driving right at us. The scarier part was that she didn't even understand why we were waving our arms at her. There was lots of other vehicles and golf carts as it was a Friday night, could have been a bad situation. I did report this to the security. The second time, a young girl just about rear ended us she came up so fast. They need to police this before there is a serious accident!

To start, the woman working the morning shift was extremely rude, particularly toward non-seasonal campers. She told my daughter that she "needs to learn patience." She may be right, but in this situation, my daughter was simply trying to get in to see me and apparently that may have required this employee to actually do her job. I do want to mention that the woman who checked us in was extremely nice and professional, and I appreciated her kindness. Unfortunately, once I was checked in, I could immediately feel a different vibe. It honestly felt like this campground was primarily welcoming to its seasonal campers and that short-term visitors were an inconvenience. Unfortunately, I had an emergency at home because my house is currently under construction, so I had to cut my four-day trip short after only one day. The following day, I called to ask whether they would consider a partial refund or possibly a credit for the slower season. I completely understood if the answer was no, and I was simply asking. The woman told me she needed to speak with the manager. Apparently, she did not properly place me on hold, because I could hear the entire conversation. The way they spoke about me and the situation was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. After traveling and camping all over the country, I can honestly say this was one of the least welcoming camping experiences I've had. It felt more like a trailer park than a campground, and there was a very noticeable "clicky" atmosphere. I would hate for anyone to waste their valuable vacation time or money on a place where they don't feel welcome. It's a clean, simple campground with RV hookups at many sites and some welcome extra amenities, such as the bounce pit and family programming. This is a family-run business, and we've always found the staff to be pleasant and professional. The few times we've had to cancel last-minute, we found them to be more accommodating than expected or even warranted. There was one occasion when they didn't have a charged battery available for our rented electric golf cart; they lent us one of their gas-powered carts and waived the rental fee for that first day, turning a very minor inconvenience into an overall pleasant and welcome memory. We regularly recommend Sandy Pond to friends and family and have brought many here, as well, including some first-time campers.
