For the positives: The staff is very nice and the facility is extremely clean - even the bathrooms. Negatives: - No paper in either craft room... Only used pieces available for the kids to draw on or complete crafts. Ridiculous considering the high cost for admission. - You have to book tickets in advance, which they don't bother to tell you if you are booking a ticket near their time of close... Would've been nice especially on their early close days when you don't anticipate them to be closing so early. Frankly it was an absolute rip-off. read more

Great museum to keep small children and school-aged children engaged. Our party had 4 kids ages 7.75, 5.75, 5.50, and 21month old and all were kept stimulated during our visit. The main floor is where is where all the action is but when we stumbled upon upstairs, my girls were completely surprised and by the exhibit! The exhibit upstairs was dedicated to the series dedicated childrens' author, Andrea Beauty and her best selling book series. It's like having your favorite characters from one of your favorite series enshrined and come to life -- so so cool! So happy to have a found a local museum with easy parking, a cafe (closed at 2pm when we were there on a Tues!), and accessible outlets to charge your devices. A great place for young kids with so much to do and see. I'd guess the typical child could stay busy here for 2-3 hours easily. They have so many different areas with things to see, touch, explore. It's also a great place to take your kids to give them some exercise during the winter or on a rainy day! The new Daniel Tiger exhibit on the upper floor is really cute; although on the day we were here, it was really overcrowded and loud, and my niece was a bit scared off by the noise and chaos. They also have birthday party packages; a bit pricey, but a fun party idea if it's in your budget. Overall a great place to visit for young kids, probably up to age 6 or 7! read more

Our family has visited numerous children's museums in the US and this is definitely a favorite! Exhibits: There's a lot to do for all ages (our group had an 18 month old, 4 year old and 6 year old). Some of the favorites were the giant Lite Brite-style board, the water play area, the woodworking shop, the weaving area, and the shadow photo room. The cafe on the bottom floor was a nice feature and the restrooms/overall museum were very clean. Bottom line: Definitely worth a stop. I had such high expectations for this place! My husband and I made the decision to bring our son and 4-year-old nephew to explore this location, and let me express my extreme disappointment. Not only were we crammed in there like sardines, but the entrance fee was exorbitant, and more than half of their play areas were in disrepair. $12 bucks. $12 for admission for what feels like 3 exhibits. I started coming here more than a decade ago when my older kids were young. Then began again when my youngest entered toddlerhood. It was exactly the same. No new exhibits. Nothing different at all in nearly a decade. Every time I come here, I am bored within 10 minutes. My kids have unanimously loved the AirWorks exhibit. Not just my kids. I swear, my husband could spend half of his day building tubes to shove balls into. We eventually move on because it isn't polite to hog an exhibit, but that's pretty much the extent of our $12 admission. So, for $36, my husband and I and our 5 yr old get about an hour of shoving balls into tubes of blowing air. Additionally, the DCM is a SEA of strollers and children running amok. And where are the parents? -Moms sitting around texting and/or socializing with their other mom friends. FYI: This isn't daycare service. Try putting the phone down and engaging with your offspring. It's more convenient than dealing with the ick that is Navy Pier, but the Chicago Children's Museum is only $2 more and is mammoth in size and exhibits. Plus, parents are actually watching their kids there. --Perhaps because it is Chicago and they don't feel as relaxed about their kids there as they do in the burbs? Anything that gets kids thinking and off of handheld devices is a good thing. I love anything that encourages learning. But, I think that $12 is laughable for what you get. We had an awesome experience for our daughter's 4th birthday party! The staff was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The only thing we needed to bring were the cupcakes and a few decorations. The party guest had a great time, and we probably could have stayed another hour, but the museum closed at 5. My only complaint was the temperature, it was very hot inside. I would recommend this venue to any families with children 7and under. read more

We just bought a membership today and I'd like to think this place saved my life. Okay, so I'm being a bit dramatic. But seriously, what on earth do parents of 16-month old kiddos do during mornings that have nothing but nonstop thunderstorms? I was desperate. I had to circle around a bit for a parking spot (primetime + summer + rainy day = obviously a parking nightmare), but once inside, we were happy as clams. I bought a $90 membership for my kiddo and myself (though the adult is transferable, so he can be taken by my husband or someone else... which is cool!). We're planning to go multiple times a week because it offers so much. 1. Other kids. Dude. My kid looooooves interacting with other little people. 2. No sunscreen. This is a silly perk, but can I get an AMEN? 3. All seasons. Yeeees. Winter, take THAT! 4. So much stimulation and gobs of fun exhibits for kids ages 1-7 (I'm estimating). The cost of admission was like $9.50 for an adult alone... and I didn't even look at the kid prices. But for $90, I can go whenever I want. My only gripe? Hours are kind of short. They close at 4 on Mondays and 5 most days. We're not really an early to bed kind of family, so it would be nice to use it in the evenings... not gonna happen. But for an all-you-can-use pass for $90 for 12 full months? I'd say we'll get our money's worth. read more

If your kids love Kohl Children's Museum, they'll love this place even more. Doesn't seem as big as Kohl, but it is jam-packed with activities and creative things kids can do for hours and hours. Spread across two floors and a lower level for parties and food, this place is quite spacious inside. There's the usual gift shop as you come in, but the exhibits are everywhere, even in the lounge area on the lower level. Even the outside of the museum is interactive. A train track overhead has a crank that lets you move an old-fashioned "seesaw style" train car above. Near the beginning of the museum is a wood shop area with real tools: saws, hammers, and nails and piles of scrap wood for kids to make stuff with help of grownups of course. Then there's a dark area with lights, which is best described as a giant Lite Brite set, plus all sorts of cool things you can do with reflections and refracting light through a prism. There's lots of things to build from wooden blocks, dominoes, or other shapes. We spent about 2 hours at the museum before we got to the last and most exciting part: the water area. Parents, don't make the mistake of going here first. Your kids will be drenched when it's over. We anticipated a water area so we packed extra clothes and only let them do this exhibit at the end. The water area consists of build-it-yourself sections of interlocking PVC pipes, nozzles and sprayers, with valves underneath too. My two boys created water cannons that reached pretty far across the table. They essentially soaked their clothes in the process of building these pipes. The waterproof aprons didn't do much to keep them from soaking everything else on them, right down to the shoes! Regardless, the museum was fun and if we had to choose between DuPage and Kohl's in Glenview, while both are great, DuPage is the better one in my opinion. read more

Arrive at opening to beat the rush and school groups! Annual membership with the museum hopper(entry to other local children's museums)is $130. Otherwise general admission is $12 per person. All the exhibits are pretty much on the main floor. The teacher in the art room, Justice, is really great. Fun projects! Our favorite exhibits are the pyramid blocks, giant light brights, wood workshop (good for ages 5 up), wind tunnel and water area. This is a hands-on museum. We go to the Kohl Children's Museum too and that is more imaginative play (shop in a mini grocery store, be a pet vet, etc.). The cafe on the lower floor has cute tables and wall art. I was happy we packed our own lunch. The options are grilled cheese, pizza, veggie wrap, chili, pb&j and things like that. read more

Took my daughter here a few weeks ago and she loved it. She's a little older than a 1.5. I felt that's a good age. She's very curious and independent. She loved climbing the hill, playing with the instruments, the water and the lights. We spent about 2 hours and it was a nice weekend activity. When arriving, got confused with the $5 parking signs... I guess it was for the metro train parkers. (parking is free for museum visitors) -- Colorful building. When I called while parking to ask, no one answered. As I entered the front desk, they signed me in, I got a free entry as I went with a group. This was my daughter and I first time here. (SHE IS 2 y/o) The lady at the front did not direct me where my group was... Had to ask which was frustrating. Almost as if kids and teenagers run the place. But whatever, let's get to the actual exhibits. ***Smaller than kohls museum, we like kohls Musuem better because they have more exhibits*** 3 levels. First level, when entering has the most exhibits. Was sad to see that an exhibit was being built upstairs, so there was like nothing up there. Really felt like only 1 level of exhibits. Another floor is just for the food they serve. (we didn't try) This is a learning and fun environment especially on a rainy, Wintery, boring day. Our favorite was the woodshop, they have wood blocks, and provide you goggleS. Child must enter w/ adult. They have hammers, saws, and nails. You can build whatever you want & take home. The water exhibit was fun, lots of cool bubble exploring. Actually, most of it was all bubble tools. Giant bubble. Different bubble shapes. Can get wet and messy in there, especially with other kids flying around with water tools. I also asked one of the volunteers if they sterilize the toys -- she said w/ diluted bleach. Wish it was more of an natural alternative. Overall, I don't think I would pay the price & I'd prefer kohls musuem. Free entry was great though, and fun for the time being. We love new museums and checking new stuff out. If your in the area... Why not? read more

My granddaughter has been here with me quite a few times but when she went here today she was rudely told because she was 17 now she was not allowed. I understand they have rules but they can be nice about it then when she came back with a friend and his little brother so she could introduce him to the fun of this place she was treated like a criminal and followed all the time they were there. This is a great museum to take your young children to! It's huge with 3 levels of exhibits with varying themes. The water room is always a hit with kids, but be cautioned that your kid will get soaked even if they're wearing a protector. They have a great art room where kids can do crafts as well as good old fashioned play areas where kids can be kids. There is just more than enough for kids to explore and learn, both young and older. There's also a cafe on the first floor with ample seating in case the kiddos get hungry (or you just need a snack to reenergize)! On school holidays, parking can fill up and you may get forced to park on the street! It's that popular! Membership is the way to go here as it's the best bang for the buck. It's terribly difficult to keep children entertained in the winter. There's only so many Thomas the Engine episodes available on Netflix. Since I babysit my 5 year old niece and two year old nephew, I'm always on the look out for educational and fun activities. Admission is $9.50 for ages 1-59. I still think it's ludicrous that adults have to pay, but I guess this place would close down if adults weren't charged. The museum has ample parking in a lot, so no worries there-thank goodness for suburbia. Two levels of fun rooms packed with activities run by volunteers such as an art studio where my nephew enjoyed making a crystal painting. Another supervised area was the construction house where you must wear safety goggles in order to enter. Your child can hammer nails into wooden blocks, but everything stays in the museum. The room for rhythm is filled with drums and xylophones for contained noise-making. Glow stick board. Puzzles. Books. Blocks. Magnet boards. Plenty to keep toddlers busy. After spending an hour and half at the museum, my nephew was still happily exploring. He loved watching the model train set the best. read more

I've been here 3 times in the past 3 years. This museum is very nice for kids, but to me it's not worth it unless you have a membership. I feel as if I don't live close enough for me to invest in one. Each time I've come I'm pissed at how expensive it is with no membership. They make you pay for the adults as well which annoys me every time I come. I usually leave slightly annoyed by the costs. That's why I don't return in the same year. Then the next year I forget and comeback. It's not like the zoo. You can go to the zoo without your kids and have a good time. This place is geared strictly towards the little ones. Meaning I will not go here without my kids and have a good time so why do the adults have to pay?!?!? Doesn't make sense at all. If you really like this place when you visit you should buy a membership same day. They will apply what you paid to your membership. The cafe downstairs is also over priced. Eat before you go or bring snacks. You do get 10% off the cafe if you have a membership though. read more

This is a fun place for smaller children. My 8 year old and 11 year old did not have very much fun. However, my two 5 year old's had a blast. They used to have this really awesome water park like exhibit that my older kids used to love so much. They have replaced that with smaller little water tables which are not nearly as fun as they used to be. I have no idea whose idea that was, but they really shouldn't have. The upstairs family area is nice! Their changing exhibits are fun. My older kids enjoyed this part more, and the younger kids did not. Overall, it's only okay for me. Maybe it's because my kids are getting older, but they get bored here quickly. For the price, I'd rather do something they enjoy more than here. read more

PARTY REVIEW: This review is based on my experience hosting my daughter's birthday party here. I'll start with the good... Pros: Spacious party room, cool bubble machine and disco ball! The free admission voucher for each of our guests was a nice plus, too. The museum itself has so much to offer and our guests had plenty of fun! The woman who booked our party over the phone was very friendly and accommodating and took time to answer all of my questions. Cons: The parking lot-it gets FULL. We had our party on a Sunday which I guess is to be expected. Advise your guests to arrive early especially if your party is on a weekend. The pizza: I could only eat one piece. It was so tasteless and dry, a huge disappointment considering the price we paid for it. We had so much left over I had to beg our guests to eat it. Tech-The room has a karaoke stereo with an aux cord to plug into your own device. The aux cord wasn't working and I couldn't play music. I got it to work for a minute but the volume on the stereo was awful and no one could hear the music anyway. I probably could've asked for a different aux cord but by then I was too occupied trying to find the lighter that should've been in our party box. It took another 10 minutes for a girl to run down to the cafe to bring us a lighter, thus wasting our very precious and limited time in our party room. Time: 1.5 hours in our party room felt extremely rushed. Another half hour would've been perfect for us. We ended up opening gifts while our guests ate cake. It was all a bit awkward. Overall, for a party of 25 I paid over $500. Do I feel like I got my money's worth-no. Will I visit the museum again? Yes! But I will not book a party here again. read more

Solid 4 stars. I have a 3 year old daughter and newborn son. We had a membership last year and decided to let it lapse. It is always a fun time for my daughter when we come but she has seen and done it all so many times. It isn't huge but the space is well laid out. The arts/craft room, bubbles/water area, and the shadow room were always the biggest hits. There is a small play area for babies that are crawling or just learning to walk. Otherwise I'd say the age range would be 2-6years. The basement has a nice cafeteria that has some healthy and kid centric options, think baby carrots, yogurt, Apple slices, grilled cheese, etc. Overall I like this place. I might wait another year before becoming a member again. It is expensive IMO if you aren't a member. read more

I'm so surprised by all the high reviews for this place. We arrived on a Tuesday morning. We were able to get parking in their lot -- but in order to do that you need to arrive early because after an hour the lot was pretty full (and filled with buses from field trips and summer camps). Full disclosure: We had two free tickets. But even with that it still cost a ton of money for my party to get in. I think it's horrible that you charge adults AND infants. At least offer infants at a discounted rate! If anyone is over 12 months in your party -- they will be charged full price. Which honestly seems silly because a 1 year old isn't able to do everything in the museum but is charged exactly like a 5 year old. Seems silly. I'm going to be honest, I had a wide age range of children with me. I thought that a Children's museum would have something for everyone. The older kids in my party were bored to tears after a half hour. The younger kids (think like 3 and under) had a blast and could spend a ton of time just shoving things into holes and destroying everything without cleaning up their mess like they need to do at home. But beware: this museum is on the smaller side. The first floor is where the majority of the attractions are. The second floor is smaller and pretty tame and honestly feels like an after thought. This whole place feels really strange to me. It's a hodgepodge of stuff shoved into a building with no rhyme or reason (Trains next to tangram tables, 2 and under room upstairs next to displays meant for older kids and not near the nursing area). No signage explaining what to do or what they're learning about. No separate rooms so items from other exhibits find their way into places they don't belong in and kids are confused on what to do with them. Equipment is all over the floors, volunteers do not clean up and let the chaos be. At least in Chicago the staff cleans up periodically. You have old exhibits that don't work correctly. There were about 8 children fighting to use the one working "write with light" board even though there were more boards available. They just weren't working. Then throw in the day cares and summer camps that come in and this place is crowded with limited amount of things to do and limited working attractions. I just can't understand why this place is only $2 cheaper than Chicago's Children's museum and it's much much smaller, and the exhibits aren't half as cool. If you can afford to go to the city -- do that. My kids were asking to leave after 30 minutes. read more

We had our son's 6th birthday party at DuPage Children's Museum and can't recommend it enough! The staff was so helpful, organized, and continued to check on us through the whole party. We had the party room upstairs by the check in and it was in a big beautiful room, covered with artwork. There was a bubble machine, disco ball lights, and a bluetooth speaker to play your own music. The kids loved it and were dancing up a storm! The room was all ready for us before we arrived and they have a birthday box with all the tools you could need to host a great party. I had read some reviews saying that the catered pizza from Bean Sprouts wasn't good but all of our guests enjoyed it and had lots. I had it too and thought it was yummy. They set up a drink station with lemonade, water, and ice and I loved that there was a sink to help with clean up. They gave the birthday kid a free t-shirt and cool cup as well as vouchers for free admission for all of our guests to return which is awesome! Table cloths, silverware, plates, napkins, and cups were all provided with catering and they refilled anything we needed. I sometimes think that we are outgrowing the museum because my son is getting older but I can tell you that we had 20 kids ranging from 3-7 (mostly six year olds) and they all had a blast on both floors. We had an hour and a half in the party room and it was plenty of time and then we stayed for two hours in the museum. We want to thank all the staff of the DuPage Children's Museum from the helpfulness when we first booked to the actual party date itself. We had a wonderful day and will carry these birthday memories with us forever! read more

The recent time I went some of the activities were not in working order and holes on the roof prohibited some access due to bucket placement.
