    Durango Diner. Outdoor sign.

Sunday. October 12, 2025. Breakfast. My wife and I finally visited this diner after walking past it on multiple visits. Every single time it was packed. This time was no different. We put our names on the waiting list and fifteen minutes were seated. The artwork on the walls is classic diner. There are three booths in the very back, by the bathrooms. We were seated at counter number one, nearest the door. Staff continuously in motion, no rest. I ordered iced tea ($3.49) and the CURE Classic breakfast ($14.89). The cure: hashbrowns topped with American cheese, bacon (ham or sausage) and two eggs, smothered with green chile sauce. My wife ordered the handheld breakfast burrito ($9.99). This burrito included hashbrowns, cheddar cheese, green chile sauce, egg and ham/bacon/sausage. The iced tea I ordered was freshly made. I got some to go. Green chile sauce had a little bite and hashbrowns were crispy, like I like them. My wife liked her burrito with sausage and said she would visit again. Staff really believes in bottomless drinks as they filled her coffee at least five times. Portions are large and filling. Staff were all super friendly. Will definitely be visiting again.

Diner burrito without sauce and the diner Benedict. This is how much we left behind. Didn't love it.

Unfortunately, I feel I'm being generous with 3 stars. Some confusion out front - one staff member said you didn't need to leave a name, another said you did. Coffee: bland. Diner burrito: bland. Diner Benedict: not at as bland, but the biscuits are fairly dense and the hashbrowns taste of something like butter-flavored canola oil. Both of us left at least half of our meals behind. Ambience: divey diner (which doesn't bother me one bit. No stars docked for ambience.) John Wayne sign at the back of the restaurant:

Good breakfast here this morning. Minimal tables in the back, so you might end up sitting at the bar. We actually lucked out and got one of the few open tables. Service was prompt and friendly the entire meal. Coffee was delicious, so it's good we kept getting refills whenever we needed them. My Chile relleno omelette was delicious. Could've used a little less green chile sauce, but it was tasty. I liked the biscuit better than my wife liked hers, and I think she also thought her cheese omelette was just ok too. Same for the hash browns, which were fine, but not a favorite of either of ours. We'd come back, but with so many other options, we'd likely try some of them out first.

Great customer service. Food was hot and fresh. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits with a side order of hash browns and coffee of course. My wife ordered the Durango Benedict which is a biscuit, sausage, a fried egg, with gravy and a side of hash browns. Again, and it isn't a complaint, but no restaurant can compete with homemade biscuits and gravy. No place ever puts enough sausage in their gravy and I understand why. They were good, little above average as a restaurant dish. The hash browns on the other hand might be the best I've ever had at a restaurant not named Waffle House. They were absolutely delicious. Wife really enjoyed her Durango Benedict and thought it and the hash browns were delicious. Coffee was hot and fresh of course. Good place for breakfast in Durango.

Classic dinner, good breakfast and coffee. The choice of many locals on Main Street . Excellent service, authentic vibe.

Great breakfast spot - get the cinnamon roll! Visiting Durango for the weekend, we walked Main Street looking for a place to have breakfast and happened upon the Durango Diner. The diner is set up just like back in the day with a long bar and a few tables in the back. The menu has all your favorite breakfast stuff, and then some! Our food was great; the cure served hot off the grill with an english muffin, the breakfast sandwich with chips, but the best thing was the warm, house baked cinnamon roll. Service was excellent and we were in and out pretty quickly. If breakfast was any indication, lunch and dinner I'm sure are just as good!

    Super cozy cute place

I was not sure about this place initially but they certainly changed my mind quick 1. Their tshirt merch is funny so kudos on their designer for that 2. The food is a good portion so come hungry 3. They grate the hashbrown potatoes fresh in front of you and cook it! So best fresh hashbrown that won't disappoint with a great crisp! 4. You can substitute your sauce with gravy which is what I did and it was amazing 5. Service is VERY friendly and you feel like you're sitting in your grandmas kitchen! Such nice family like ppl! We got there early around 9am and it was already packed so expect a wait time for sure

The cinnamon roll is the best I have ever eaten!! Pro tip: you can go to El Rancho and order and watch the NFL games on Sundays!

However, we had gone on its closing day and had some great tacos, salad, and ramen. Their birria is rich and meaty with a touch of cinnamon and was awesome as a ramen and taco. Service was efficient and drinks were cold. Guess I'm just writing this to keep my Yelp numbers up...

If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.

what is there to say about this place?…read more i personally have never eaten anything here EXCEPT their bakery goods which were superb, best in town, hands down. Every morning they seem to have a wide selection of freshly baked pastries, good coffee, big smiles and a beautiful building. I have seen their breakfasts being delivered to tables and can say they look delicious but a big breakfast sends me straight back to bed... When i am in town.. i stop here every single time, always, without fail.

May 2026 My wife and…read moreI were visiting Durango for a few days. She took the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go because of a medical condition that prevents me from traveling to high altitudes, and the train climbs to around 10,000 feet. After she left on her adventure, I decided to find some breakfast. While I was walking around town, my aunt called. She and my uncle used to vacation in Ouray every year, so she knows the area well. She recommended Jean-Pierre Bakery, so that's where I headed. I was seated right away and ordered a coffee while I looked over the menu. My waitress was very friendly, and we chatted for a while. She even recommended a few places around town that I should check out. I finally decided on the Croque Monsieur (brioche, béchamel, ham, and Swiss cheese) served with a salad. When my meal arrived, it looked fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, rich, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying a Croque Monsieur, and I really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly with it. After finishing my meal, I couldn't resist ordering a pistachio cream-filled éclair that had caught my eye when I first walked in. It looked beautiful, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pastry was very dry, and the bottom was quite hard. It definitely didn't taste freshly made. The pistachio cream had a nice flavor, but there wasn't very much of it. I mentioned my concerns to my server, and she kindly brought me a chocolate éclair to try instead. It also looked wonderful, but it had the same problem. The pastry tasted old, almost like it had been sitting for a couple of days. I would absolutely return for another Croque Monsieur or to try something else from the breakfast or lunch menu because that part of the meal was excellent. As for the pastries, they certainly look beautiful, but based on my experience, I would probably pass on them next time. This would have been a solid 4 star if those eclair had of been good.
