I've eaten at the Durango Diner since my college days, forty years ago. Being in the area I was beyond happy to see it was still open so our final breakfast for this brief trip had to be here. The restaurant is tiny, a narrow shotgun type unit in a building along main street. We managed to get one of their five tables and were promptly served drinks and time to look over the menu before ordering the Country Benedict. My coffee was kept filled as we waited for our order. As soon as the plate hit the table, I knew that even though the owner had changed, the spirit of the place remained. The plate of food was massive; more than the two of us could eat. The plate included two halves of an excellent biscuit, half of a large sausage patty on each, an over easy egg; all smothered in country sausage gravy. The other half of the plate had a mound of beautiful browned hash browns. Enough for four people or at least two very hungry people. It was glorious and nostalgic. The flavor was everything I wanted it to be. If you are in or near Durango, please consider giving this true old diner a try. This is such a tiny restaurant, but super friendly and helpful folks running this place.... And they all seemed to work together and provided a really fun and welcoming environment! We stopped in for breakfast when we didn't realize there was an art festival going on in the city of Durango, so we expected it to feel crowded, busy and rushed. They found a table for us right away (part of that was lucky timing on our part), but provided great service.... Answering all of our questions and asking where we are from and overall friendly service. We all ordered the breakfast burritos and it was better than what we expected. I highly recommend the green chili sauce they smother the burrito in.... It's super tasty! And in the end, the price was lower than we expected.... So, great environment, great food. 5 stars! We ended up eating at Durango Diner twice during our visit, and that says everything. The food here is absolutely outstanding. One of the things that really stood out is that they grate the hash browns right in front of you. You can taste the difference, fresh, crispy, and done right. On our first visit, I had the chile relleno omelette with hash browns, and it was incredible, perfectly cooked with amazing flavor. We liked it so much that we came back before leaving town. This time I had the classic breakfast with eggs, sausage, hash browns, and their green chili... and wow. The green chili was so good we actually bought a jar to take home. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our waitress was full of energy, genuinely friendly, and made us feel so welcome, it honestly made our day (or at least gave us a fantastic start to it). If you're in Durango, this place is a must. Sunday. October 12, 2025. Breakfast. My wife and I finally visited this diner after walking past it on multiple visits. Every single time it was packed. This time was no different. We put our names on the waiting list and fifteen minutes were seated. The artwork on the walls is classic diner. There are three booths in the very back, by the bathrooms. We were seated at counter number one, nearest the door. Staff continuously in motion, no rest. I ordered iced tea ($3.49) and the CURE Classic breakfast ($14.89). The cure: hashbrowns topped with American cheese, bacon (ham or sausage) and two eggs, smothered with green chile sauce. My wife ordered the handheld breakfast burrito ($9.99). This burrito included hashbrowns, cheddar cheese, green chile sauce, egg and ham/bacon/sausage. The iced tea I ordered was freshly made. I got some to go. Green chile sauce had a little bite and hashbrowns were crispy, like I like them. My wife liked her burrito with sausage and said she would visit again. Staff really believes in bottomless drinks as they filled her coffee at least five times. Portions are large and filling. Staff were all super friendly. Will definitely be visiting again. read more

Good breakfast here this morning. Minimal tables in the back, so you might end up sitting at the bar. We actually lucked out and got one of the few open tables. Service was prompt and friendly the entire meal. Coffee was delicious, so it's good we kept getting refills whenever we needed them. My Chile relleno omelette was delicious. Could've used a little less green chile sauce, but it was tasty. I liked the biscuit better than my wife liked hers, and I think she also thought her cheese omelette was just ok too. Same for the hash browns, which were fine, but not a favorite of either of ours. We'd come back, but with so many other options, we'd likely try some of them out first. read more

Great customer service. Food was hot and fresh. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits with a side order of hash browns and coffee of course. My wife ordered the Durango Benedict which is a biscuit, sausage, a fried egg, with gravy and a side of hash browns. Again, and it isn't a complaint, but no restaurant can compete with homemade biscuits and gravy. No place ever puts enough sausage in their gravy and I understand why. They were good, little above average as a restaurant dish. The hash browns on the other hand might be the best I've ever had at a restaurant not named Waffle House. They were absolutely delicious. Service was great! Very friendly staff continuously checking on me while I waited for my to go order. I ordered the Chile relleno omelette. I've ordered it two other times but the first time was the best. For some reason, it had zero flavor this and the previous time. I think salt needs to be added to the potatoes or cooked with salted butter. A little more sauce should be added too so every bite is the same. This is the reason for 4 stars. Great breakfast spot - get the cinnamon roll! Visiting Durango for the weekend, we walked Main Street looking for a place to have breakfast and happened upon the Durango Diner. The diner is set up just like back in the day with a long bar and a few tables in the back. The menu has all your favorite breakfast stuff, and then some! Our food was great; the cure served hot off the grill with an english muffin, the breakfast sandwich with chips, but the best thing was the warm, house baked cinnamon roll. I was not sure about this place initially but they certainly changed my mind quick 1. Their tshirt merch is funny so kudos on their designer for that 2. The food is a good portion so come hungry 3. They grate the hashbrown potatoes fresh in front of you and cook it! So best fresh hashbrown that won't disappoint with a great crisp! 4. A super narrow, basically hallway, makes up this local favorite diner. Expect waits for a seat, especially if you want one of the three four tops. Very friendly servers add to the charm of a throw back diner. They even went out of their way to recommend the bunny pancakes (not on the menu) for the kids. Prices are on the high side, but considering the location and amount of food you get, it trends back to reasonable. This is a great downtown place for breakfast - they open early! Friendly waitstaff, cooks. It's very open, you watch your breakfast cook if you sit at the counter. I had a standard type breakfast (eggs, BACON, hash browns, English muffin). There are plenty of daily specials (cures). Coffee was plentiful and my cup was rarely half empty. I had two hours before I had to check out of my hotel. Yeah, I'm a tourist. The horror. I rode my bicycle a mile to eat breakfast. I knew what I wanted before I left the hotel. Got there, got a single spot at the counter, ordered coffee. I asked about getting corn tortillas instead of flour for huevos rancheros. She said that was ok. I said "Okay, I'll get the huevos rancheros with red and green chili." She started asking me about mini options which I was not familiar with. I said, "I dunno, on the menu here it just says huevos rancheros" Then she started in on me practically berating me in front of the other customers and pointing out the mini options on the other page of the menu. "You didn't specify if you wanted mini or not" Yeah! I didn't. Because I just said I wanted huevos rancheros TWICE! At that point I was very irritated and just walked out. Didn't make a fuss. You will get enough food one one plate ;to feed 3 people. It's a treat sitting at the counter watching the staff working as a well oiled machine. The potatoes are shredded on the spot. A lot of butter is added to the potatoes so I supposed you could ask the waiter to not add the butter if you didn't want it, but why would you do that? The bacon - oh my gosh the bacon. And the sausage! It's a huge flavorful patty. I could go on and on but it's the best dang breakfast I have had in a long time. It's a great place to come for a hangover, which I did not have, but the entire left side of the menu is definitely hangover food. DD is a very small establishment; a long counter and a couple of booths, and not big booths either. So don't come if you have more than 4 in your party. Unless you don't want to sit together anyway. After a 15 hour overnight drive arriving to Durango, this was the comfort food we all needed. It was busy but we got a table of 5 seated fairly fast. The ambiance is a traditional diner style where the cooks make food in front of you. The huevos rancheros was delicious -- mostly because of their green chili! Stopped in for breakfast late this morning and found the place packed! We got on the wait list and after about 15 minutes were called for our table. Not a very big place but really busy and turning the tables. Staff were friendly and welcoming, seated us at a table which was nice as it seemed 1/2 seats were at the counter. Took our order quickly and returned with coffee immediately. I ordered the Half and Half with two sunny side up eggs; the biscuit was cut in half with sausage gravy on one half and green chili on the other. The gravy had great flavor with little chucks of sausage and "mild" while the green chili was a bit spicy with nice chunks of pepper, but not a spicy as I like, but the red and green jalapeno sauce provided on the table took care of that. The only downside was the gravy and green chili was not served hot enough, they were "lukewarm", a bit of disappointment, but the flavor help to overcome this issue. My wife ordered the cheese omelet, which came with hash browns and toast; then added a side of bacon. The hash browns were some of the best I've ever eaten!! They were fresh potatoes browned perfectly on the outside while still a bit soft inside; and the portion was enough for two. They had three flat tops behind the counter and three cooks constantly shuffling eggs, hash browns, hot cakes and bacon to and from. I would have given 5 stars, but the lukewarm gravy and green chili was enough to take a start away. Great job Durango Diner, just keep that gravy and those sauces at the right serving temperature. read more

We ordered the Cali cure and mini Huevos rancheros. Both were sooooo good. Especially when you smother it in Green chili sauce. We sat at the counter where you watch the cooks make all the food. It's a well-oiled machine because they were cranking out the hash browns, eggs, bacon, etc. There were a few additional tables in the back. Very efficient! Service was great.
