I just flew in to Durango with my family, and today just so happens to be my 19th wedding anniversary. We had found ourselves on a waitlist at some "fried stuff with cheese" restaurant down the street, which nothing at all looked appetizing to me so I vetoed. Got on Yelp, found 636 well rated nearby and the menu looked wonderful. Got here to a healthy amount of patrons and warm ambiance/atmosphere. Service was great despite me being an annoying tourist. I tried every dish we had plus the hot rolls, which have a buttery pimento dip. Everyone agreed that the food was spectacular. Of all the things to love about 636 (which there are many), my favorite is that when I mentioned our anniversary to the lady, she said "Oh! I'll get the anniversary confetti!" My wife and I made reservations at 636 Main for ourselves and two friends who came into town to meet up with us while we were traveling through Colorado. We were seated on the patio and it took quite a while for our server to greet us. Once she did, she brought water and took our drink order. She returned with our drinks and said she would be back to take our food order. We had plenty to talk about while waiting, but she repeatedly walked past our table to attend to other tables without stopping. Eventually, I had to stop her and let her know we were ready to order. My wife and our friend's wife both ordered a pasta dish with sliced steak and spinach. My friend had a salad with salmon and a bowl of soup, and I ordered the filet with potato lasagna and spinach. As the evening went on, it became breezy and chilly. I asked another server if the patio heater could be turned on, and someone came over right away to help, which we appreciated. When our meals arrived, everything looked excellent and tasted very good. The food was definitely the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, our server only stopped by our table once during the entire meal to check on us and it was lien she was in a rush to leave to table. We spent a long time waiting to see if she would ask whether we needed anything or if we were finished. It wasn't as though she had to go out of her way to reach us--she walked past our table numerous times while serving her other tables. Because of the lack of attention, I once again had to get her attention to let her know we were finished and ask for a dessert menu. I ordered the Dubai Chocolate dessert to go after she highly recommended it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the description once I had a chance to eat it. The chocolate flavor was very mild, and the crunchy layer on the bottom was not particularly enjoyable nothing like a Dubai Chocolate. Overall, the food was excellent and deserving of praise. However, for a fine dining restaurant where both the food and drinks come at premium prices, the service fell well short of expectations. Great meals can make for a memorable evening, but attentive service is an important part of the fine dining experience, and unfortunately that was missing during our visit. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience here and would definitely rate it a solid 5 stars. I ordered the surf and turf, which included scallops, shrimp, and steak served over a bed of homemade fettuccine with spinach and Parmesan. The steak was incredibly flavorful and practically melted in my mouth. What stood out most was how well everything complemented each other, the seafood, pasta, and steak created a perfectly balanced dish. My husband ordered the Ahi, and it was equally delicious, fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. We started with the calamari and were pleasantly surprised when it came with homemade fettuccine. It was honestly some of the best calamari we've had in a long time, perfectly cooked and beautifully paired. The shrimp spring rolls were everything you want in a fried spring roll. The burrata salad was fresh, bright and so flavorful. We set at the bar while we were waiting on our reservation time and its a lil warm inside, so we chose patio seating. Its all covered! Service on the patio was awesome, shout out to our waitress Rachel! We started with the calamari. OMG! Some of the best I've had. It's the rings, battered perfectly (good taste & batter stuck), served with house-made fettuccini pasta and fresh marinara sauce (bold, flavorful and a great addition). Lil drizzle of lemon aioli on the top. There was just 2 of us in our party, but we were kinda full after finishing just that. I ordered the filet mignon. It was so tended, well seasoned. Perfectly what I wanted. Potato lasagna (think scalloped but creamier) was really good!!!! Even the spinach was decent and I hate spinach. My husband got the NY strip and was very pleased it was tender and a great cut! His came with asparagus, which he shared and was cooked perfectly crisp, and mashed potatoes. Never got a chance to eat there because a woman from NM who was there with her husband complained about our respectful party of three. It was too close to her table and she was unhappy we were there. Then the server came over and said he would not be serving us alcohol with our dinner. My veteran husband, who we took back to our hotel, because he had already imbibed too much. We were not drunk or belligerent. We left this restaurant and went to Mahogany Grill where they served up amazing food and served us drinks with our meal. It was extremely unprofessional of the waiter to judge us based on the comments to an unhappy customer. Will not return. read more

Great place to eat in Durango! Our group of 5 totally enjoyed our drinks & dinner at 636 Main. We started with a round of cocktails from their menu. All were great. One person in our group had the Ribeye which was cooked to perfection and delicious. Two of us had the Halibut on vegetables. It was all perfectly prepared and delicious as well. The last two had the special of the day, Prime Rib. None of us had ever seen Prime Rib served the way it was. It almost looked like a roast. Unfortunately, they ordered it Medium but it was pretty much rare. They went ahead and ate rather than sending back. They reported that while flavorful, the meat was quite tough and chewy. Our server, Laurie, who was simply outstanding and attentive, offered to buy us a couple desserts. We took the tiramisu and the cheesecake. They were both excellent, but the cheesecake was really memorable. Don't miss it! I give 636 a pass on the Prime Rib special so make sure you go enjoy their flavorful food, cocktails and yummy desserts! read more

So incredibly thankful to have had dinner in this fabulous restaurant the food is off the charts and the service was excellent as well. They must do well in Durango Colorado. I really enjoyed my dinner at 636! I stopped by wanting to try either the grouper or the gnocchi, but I wasn't very hungry at the time. I ended up getting the gnocchi which came with a little bit of spinach, and was the PERFECT amount of food, and it was delicious! Due to (for us good) staffing the owner was our hostess. She has a restaurant that completely makes sense why they are packed. The ambience was subdued inside be we opted for the outside dining alfresco style. Patio lights, heaters, and foliage that made it magical. Food was scrumptious. I didn't get the pork shoulder green chill stew but, yum. The wine braised beef tips over roasted mashed potatoes was well balanced and deep in flavor with tender meat. Having eaten at this restaurant for over 20 years and having eaten the pistachio encrusted grouper almost every time, I have to say Saturday night was the worst preparation of the dish. The outside was not crispy, the fish overcooked and dry, the spinach had no seasoning, and the sweet potatoes seemed sweeter than usual. There was no salt or pepper on the table. The bread was tough like it had been microwaved to heat it up. The service was good however so I was thankful for that. Probably the last time I ever order my absolute favorite dish. Also the 27 year old camera for the photo's needs to be replaced. Everyone that has been around for a while has lovely photo memories of birthdays and other special events that now are go grainy it's hard to see the faces. Good wine list by the glass. Convenient location. Recommendation. Be careful with their reservation system. I made one for the dining room or patio. When I got there, I said that and the hostess would only seat us on the wet, damp, cold patio. I asked for inside seating and was told it would be an hour wait. A server came by and said, she'd been cut because no one was eating outside. Yep, We were the only ones on the patio. It seems when it rains in Durango, everyone but me, eats inside. 636 Main is one of our favorite spots to treat ourselves when we're in Durango because the food is consistently delicious! Last night three of us in our group opted for a tapas style dinner. We started with the Mediterranean Burrata Salad and 4 of the small plates/appetizers. The portions were generous, and the flavors and plating were phenomenal. We finished by sharing the prime rib special which we devoured. My kids loved the angel hair marinara and meatballs. We sat out back. I've eaten here many times, back when it was still Ken and Sue's. The food is excellent and I love their outdoor patio area. The patio has walked tents with 3-4 tables inside so the noise level is minimal. Each tent has heating and cooling elements so it is usable pretty much all year round. Inside the main restaurant has a nice, homey feel. The servers are kind and knowledgeable and their drink menu has some fun choices. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Ambiance and vibe is 5/5 -- we sat on the patio with our big group and loved the Christmas lights and heater. Our waiter was great and very kind But the food definitely was a let down. Half of us got the filet mignon and it was good don't get me wrong but not $50 good. Same with the chicken parm or whatever the chicken with noodles was because they are made of veggies and not normal pasta (wheat).
