This place is not bad at all. It's in the middle of downtown which is where you want to be. The rooms are nice and not old looking. To me they are doing their best to make an old historic place modern but keep its originality. The breakfast is small nothing hot just muffins in bags, oranges, cereal. But honestly there is so many good places to eat it's worth trying as much as you can while your there. So don't let a small breakfast keep you from this place. They have a nice pool and a nice hot tub. The parking is small. Make sure to park correctly so that other people can fit as well. We parked and never moved our vehicle the whole time as we walked and spent a whole day on the train which you should do! read more

We went to check out after a two day stay. They insisted we booked for three despite us checking in and giving the two dates. They refused to discount the bill. We had no housekeeping. The manager said it's upon request but we heard them offer a couple ahead of us that service so assumed it was included. We had one hand towel and one washcloth in our room. When I request more at the front desk I was told they were all in the laundry. Pool is very cold 70s and hot tub is gross. "Breakfast" includes lots of junk like pop tarts and packaged mini muffins. For the price, I'd go elsewhere. read more

Perfect place to stay for a good rest and a clean shower. Simple as it comes for a motel/lodge. Great for being walking distance to the Durango Train and main area of walking. Bed was comfortable, shower a little small but overall great place. read more

Great location and decent amenities. I spoke with a lady a month before my stay who said they were very dog friendly and that said they had no issues with cats. When I arrived they charged me 50 more dollars for the dog. Not the end of the world but would've been nice to know. Also it states cats are not allowed which is contradictory to what I was told when I spoke on the phone. Otherwise no major issues. This location although allows dogs I could not recommend it to another dog owner as there are no grass areas or other amenities for dogs. read more

The lodge was great. Exactly what a lodge should be. Room was very clean. Had a mini fridge. Shower was clean. What I really want to say is how appreciative we are with Kyle who was working at the desk when we arrived. He was very helpful with parking our large vehicle--went out in the parking lot with us and really just went above and beyond. Then the big thing--my husband realized he lost his wallet about 10 hours after we left (and were by then in Crested Butte). I called the lodge and Kyle answered. The location is great, check in was good. But that's about it. It was hard to sleep at night without a blanket, very dry sheets and dry air. The beds aren't comfortable but happy that I got 4 pillows to myself. The breakfast is sad, boxed cereals, packaged pastries and fruit that wasn't in season. The coffee didn't smell good so I passed. Two nights is the max for me for this place. The AC worked great and I didn't try the pool that was across the parking lot surrounded by a wall. I'm here on business, but I'm not sure if I would be happy paying the price to stay here. read more

This is a basic room. The location is excellent though. It is within walking distance of downtown Durango. We were not told there is no maid service unless requested. After 3 nights we had overflow trash & out of coffee pods. The breakfast is disappointing but expected after reading reviews. read more

The most positive aspects of this motel is it's location, and the very nice staff. You are greeted by friendly welcoming agents. The parking lot is a very challenging, especially if you come in later in the evening when the lot is full - one way in, and no way out with all the spots full. The spaces are very tight as well, and it only takes one idiot parking goofy and over the line to screw up everything. The lower floor has both front outdoor entry as well as a interior hallway. The hallway is a little dark and gloomy, so I rarely used it except for retrieving ice at night. Upstairs rooms have to use it for accessing their rooms. The rooms are very basic and old school, but they are clean and have everything you need. My visit was recent (in winter) and the temperatures were in the teens. When I went into my room it was very cold inside, and it took quite a while for the room to feel comfortable. Older plumbing, the shower temperature was very inconsistent and kept changing from too hot to too cold, like anytime anyone flushed a toilet in the hotel you suffered the consequences. Small bath room and shower, but good enough for a one-nighter, and I'd stay here again if in the area with lowered expectations. I think you expect a little more for the price, but the location is exceptional. You can comfortably walk allover downtown. It's right next to the train station, and easy walk to several great restaurants - and some bad ones. read more

Stayed here a week, can't say enough good about the facility, location and staff. We asked for and got moved to a handicap room the day after our arrival. A maintenance man moved several suitcases for us and refused to accept a gratuity. The desk staff bent over backwards to accomadate us. The continental breakfast was a little sparse but plenty of it, the rolls were fresh, always OJ and milk, bread, jellies and jams. Our second room was on the first floor with an inside door, very spacious, grab bars near the toilet and in the shower. Had two easy chairs, a computer desk and credenza with adequate drawers and a nice refrigerator which was spotless. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable. TV with cable worked as expected. I had a health issue while there, nothing to do with the room and again the staff went out of their way to take care of us, supplied us with extra towels when requested and didn't nickle and dime us to death when we asked for a late checkout while waiting for our son to arrive to drive us back to Prescott, AZ. All in all, we had an excellent experience and highly recommend the Durango Lodge. It is within 25 yards of the Durango/Silverton train depot and easy walking distance to shops and places to eat in the downtown area without being over priced. If anything parking is somewhat at a premium but we never had a problem parking our car nor did we have any issues with loud guests. The pool is on the small side but we generally don't avail ourselves of those regardless of the size so not really an issue. read more

Nice clean hotel in the historic district, within easy walk to everything. Extremely comfortable beds. Lovely outdoor pool with a big indoor hot tub adjacent to it. No elevator, but easy, carpeted stairs to second floor. Some rooms have balconies. The ice machine, office, pool, and hot tub close at 10:00. Breakfast is simple, with a small eating area (apple, banana, tangerine, V-8, pineapple juice, packaged pastries, cereal, microwaveable croissant w cheese, egg, sausage, pancake and sausage on stick, and frozen breakfast burrito. Good. We paid around 200. per room after tax. Not frilly, but we thought it was a great value. Recommend! read more

Good: Awesome location next to the railroad action and plenty of Main St restaurants/bars within walking distance. Decent price. Clean, comfortable. Private parking in premium part of town. Neutral: Continental breakfast is about average. Bad: Our a/c didn't work properly, took us 2 days to figure out it wasn't our imagination. Saw the cleaning staff combining used soap/shampoo bottles to "create" new bottles. Make your own judgement here of whether that's good or bad, even though I'm an environmentalist it was still a little disturbing, and weird cause the bottles themselves are tiny in the first place. read more

The room was OK. The front desk clerk was rude and housekeeping should be terminated. I asked for restaurant information upon check in and was told I'd just have to look through GrubHub. So, I did and ordered food which arrived without utensils. I asked at the front desk for a couple of forks which were grudgingly given to me after the clerk made certain to note "we're not in the habit of giving away plasticware." The next morning, while getting ready to shower, I noticed a rough patch in the dark brown floor grout. When I wiped it up, it came away a copper colored, clot of what looked like a dried blood-drop. DISGUSTING! I am now absolutely certain that the room had not been cleaned. I didn't bother to go back to the office, we left and found a different hotel to shower. Just plain gross! read more

Chose this hotel based on the glowing recommendation of the nice lady at the local Durango & Silverton Railroad...the balcony king room was great & bed was comfy...however, before we got that far, when I checked in with Bryan, I greeted him in my usual chipper & friendly manner!!! He simply barked at me in a very loud, rude voice: "I need ID" no "thank you" or "how was your trip" much less "welcome to Durango"...my 2nd bad experience with Bryan was asking him where to park when all the spaces were apparently full...he looked at me very derisively & pointed to a row of completely unlit parking spaces (which a non local like me would not have seen) & said in an exceedingly condescending voice, "there's a whole row over there"...I could almost hear his eyes rolling in his head!!! His body language adequately conveyed the fact that he had zero use for anyone over the age of 35...never mind the fact that my purchase of 3 nights stay paid his salary summary: Bryan needs a different job...preferably not in the hospitality industry!!!! read more

We don't expect a lot from motels like this. In its favor, the location is great for walkability and access to historic Durango and it is half the price of nearby hotels. The clerk at check-in was nice but insisted that we had booked our room for the following night, even when I showed him the Expedia confirmation. He offered us a "lovely balcony room" that ended up having only a view of the parking lot. The mattress was old and lumpy and the pillows were rock hard. The air conditioning in the room didn't work and we ended up sleeping with the window and balcony door open all night (the room temperature was over 80 degrees). When we mentioned the A/C, we were told that they were working on it and most people didn't mind because it gets cold at night. It wasn't the worst, but it was an odd experience. read more

Such a cute hotel in a cute little town. The highlights are air conditioned hallways, cute balconies, jacuzzi and swimming pool. The rooms are clean and the furniture is current. Some of the rooms have 3 beds but no separate walls. All in all this is a great place to stay. read more

I was concerned this was going to be a dive. It wasn't bad! The bed was comfy. You walk through a hallway to get to your room and the smell is musty. Obviously at one time smoking was allowed and so it's kinda velcroed. The hot tub was a welcome relaxing sight and did not disappoint. It's pretty much a self service hot tub situation, as in you uncover it, turn it in, etc but it wasn't that big of a deal. read more
