I took my dog in on Monday because she was not acting like herself. After bloodwork, I was told she had a pelvic infection and needed surgery. I paid around $800 total for the procedure and care. After surgery, I was informed that it went well and that she would likely be able to come home once she started eating again. Unfortunately, she later passed away. What made this experience even more heartbreaking was the communication. I only received one phone call, which I unfortunately missed, i wasn't able to say goodbye to my dog. It was devastating knowing she spent her final moments alone in a cage surrounded by barking dogs. I understand complications can happen, but I truly feel the seriousness of her condition was not clearly communicated to me after the bloodwork and surgery. The long wait times and lack of follow-up communication made an already painful situation even harder. We found this place shortly after moving to Sherman 4yrs ago. Dr Mills and staff have been great! I think what really puts them over the top is their pricing... great service and affordable is rare these days! 1 cat and 2 dogs later we're still loving this place and we recommend them to everyone! Try them I promise you'll be happy you did. The only neg is the wait time and no appts unless it's a procedure. Which you will learn it's worth the wait! LOL However, the last time we were there it was less than 30mins and it was busy. I found out my Great Pyrenees had some type of infection in his mouth. Suspected abscessed tooth/teeth. I'm in the DFW area and local vets wanted $500-$1000 to do dental cleaning and possible extractions. They couldn't tell for sure what was wrong without x-rays. No need, he needed the dental cleaning anyway. Once I found out the amount the vets wanted, the ones who would do a 125 lb dog, I went on a desperate search for a vet I could afford. A local woman recommended Durant and listed several procedures they performed and the cost. It was mind blowing. I called and requested the cost of dental cleaning w/ possible extractions for my GP. It was so affordable I decided to include my 14 yr old papillon. It is also difficult to find a vet to do dental cleanings on dogs over 10 yrs on top of a giant breed. In a matter of 1 wk exactly, I took both dogs for an exam and bloodwork one day and the procedures 2 business days later. Two pre-exams and bloodwork, two cleanings, 5 extractions, and medications totaled LESS than the top estimate for one GP dental and extractions only. A little more than 40% less to be more precise. Now let's talk about my experience. That office is BUSY. Busier than I've ever seen, but surprisingly, as a walk-in (no appt) I honestly don't think I was there more than an hour for the exams and bloodwork. The ladies who work the front, the assistants, and the Dr are very aware of the importance of tending to their patients in a professional and timely manner. They are kind when it's time to see your pet and answer questions directly. Finally, if you're a pet owner who needs an excessive amount of attention in a non-emergency situation and enjoy paying ~$500 for an exam with little or no testing involved (what I paid to find out my GP's mouth was infected) then this is not the place for you. First off I took my rescue elderly Maltese here because he needed heart worm treatment I asked 3 times how much it would be with him weighing less than 20 lbs and they said 250.00 long story short when I went to check out the bill was 282.00 more after I had paid 250.00 after the 1 st shot ( paid in full ). The lady at the front desk acted like an unprofessional ass . I paid 150.00 for meds for collapsing trachea and for exam he didn't get . The 1 st visit the dr prescribed him hydrocodone with Tylenol which can kill a dog . I went back when I found out and they said it was a mistake but no apology was given for extreme negligence. Then the whole time I was trying to question him about the upcoming heart worm treatment he kept holding on to the door knob not listening. Also after the first heart worm treatment shot he told me to give my little guy a full dose baby aspirin and by the time he pooped his whole backend was covered in bright red blood. My pup had parvo and we went to three different ER's. all where very expensive and would not give us hopes she will make it. We are local in the DFW area. Thank god a family member refer us to Durant Animal Hospital. As we walk in staff was very friendly and give us hope our pup would make it. We left her at the hospital. I have been going to this place for a long time and I have a huge respect for Dr Mills both of them. The new Vet that they just hired "Justin" I wouldnt put doctor next to his name.... has to be the dumbest vet I have ever met. I lost my dog less tgan a week after I took him there. I knew something was really wrong with him, he down played it. Wouldn't give me a straight answer, didn't take the time to do blood work or any type of analysis. Left there with anti nausea and an appetite boosting medication and when I asked him what if that doesn't work which my gut told me it wouldn't work. Called this place in a desperate attempt to get my dog seen for life saving surgery, as my aunt had come here. It was after hours so I left a message (they have an on call vet) and called back 30 minutes later and someone answered for about 5 seconds and I heard them talking and then they proceeded to hang up on me, so I called again, as before someone answered, and I even heard someone in the background say Durant animal hospital, before I got clicked on. My only issue was that my dog had pyometra, I was desperately in need, and that grasp of hope I had when someone's answered to only lose it because someone decided my call wasn't worth it, that hurts. While we awaited the doctor in the waiting room, I met some incredible people who had driven over an hour and half to see these doctors. Several dog breeders were waiting too. Excellent service with over-the-top caring veterinarians and nursing staff. They go way beyond the call of duty to take care of the animals that are brought in. I highly recommend them. I drive from Texas to Durant to use this facility. Very reasonably priced and they are so good with the animals. When you go in to see the veterinarian you may have to wait a while but it is well worth it. I use Dr Mills but the other 2 vets are very good also. I took my precious little Harley (my dog) .... in Saturday morning, 26 December... and was told by Dr Boyd that she needed emergency surgery to remove a spleen tumor. So I leave my baby girl there.... 3 DAYS later.... I finally get the call from Dr Boyd that the cancer is too far gone throughout her entire cavity!! She can't be saved!! My precious dog set locked up in a tiny cage for 3 DAYS before she could EVER be tended to!! Don't tell me she needs "Emergency surgery" Saturday morning... and NOT GET TO HER TIL MONDAY NIGHT!!!! I now live with the guilt of knowing The LAST 3 days of her precious life was spent in total HELL!! She was scared to death.. alone with other dogs barking and animals moaning!!! My baby suffered unnecessary "pain"... simply because Dr.Boyd is GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED!!! You tell me she needs emergency surgery... BUT don't get to her for 3 days.... only to have her end up dead on your table!!! I've been going there 3 years and I will never go back. The place is filthy. The exam table had dried blood on it and I don't even know what was on the wall. The check in girl was rude. She was eating pizza with her mask of at the front desk. My little dog had to have a procedure and was sedated. I asked if they could trim her nails while she was asleep. Every toe was bleeding. They are unprofessional and nasty. I tried to go in today but just couldn't after seeing the fear in my dog's face. I got my medical records and walked the heck out. Dr. Mills and Dr. Kemp are always on point when caring for our animals! They don't overcharge, they take the time to examine everything that concerns you. Be prepared to talk fast and ask questions fast (they are extremely busy, you are at a walk-in clinic). Listen close and if you forget a question you can always ask any of the people on the staff. As long as their doors are open. They will be the only vet I use. The only thing I wish is that they were open 24/7. Unfortunately they aren't. read more

I have been bringing all five of my dogs to this clinic for several years because they have been great. This morning I bring my sick dog in to check in at 8:15 in the morning and was turned away because they're only allowed to see five walk-in patients now. It would be nice if they would post on their website the new rules. Price is cheaper than competitors but there's obviously a catch. There's gross lack of punctuality, responsibility, and respect from the staff. Staff was supposed to call me regarding timeline of a blood test and its result on a certain day, but I didn't receive a call at all. I called them to follow up but they were very wishy washy and acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. A woman with thick Southern accent kept saying she couldn't understand me and started laughing. Was that some sort of a racist insult? Who knows, but this place gives me the KKK vibe. I finally reached the right person after many transfers just to get the answer I was promised. Not only that, they also misinformed me so I had to call them back yet again. I told them their information was wrong but they did not want to admit their mistakes despite obviously going against information stated on the website. I was then put on hold for 20 minutes and the same rude woman hung up on me while I was on hold. And not surprisingly, they didn't bother to call me back. But that was not the end of their grotesquely crappy customer service. I called back a week later to get a finalized copy of the test result. Again, they were still being wishy washy and told me they would call me back. As I predicted, I didn't get a call back at all. Grotesquely crappy customer service is an understatement. This is definitely the worst animal hospital I've ever been to. The racist vibe is definitely strong in this place. Due to my preference for ear Cropping this was a horrible experience!!! I scheduled two puppies for an ear cropping procedure with Dr. Boyd D. Mills and one of the puppies ears turned out perfect, however, for whatever reason the second puppy didn't turn out so well. I was unhappy about the cut, so the vet looked at the ears before I left and scheduled a recut. Two weeks later today I drive 2 hours for the appointment and Dr. Mills refuses to recut with no good reason after I drove 2 hours to the appointment. As calm as I could be, I tried to talk to him and he rudely walked away saying " I'm not recutting ". I just think this situation could've been handled better. I'm okay with you being uncomfortable to recut the ears but don't reschedule me and then be rude about the whole situation. read more

Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center on Custer in Plano was trying to charge us between $2600 and $2800 for a fractured jaw on our 6oz dog. We already paid $1400 for 2 days in their ER plus $135 consultation fee!! Dr Mills and his awesome staff looked and the estimate and xrays and that day performed the SAME procedure for $400!!!! . NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE! This is copy of email sent to office manager Tara without a courtesy of a response. Tara, I called the office today to cancel an procedure appt I had made for my dog Winnie for Nov 28th, and wanted to let you and the doctors know the reason.  I am fairly new to the area, and came to DAH on a referral from a relative.  Winnie is a rescue from Garland SPCA, and she had been spayed thru them 2 weeks before I brought her in.  They instructed me to have a well check and incision looked at by vet in 2 weeks.  When I registered at your front desk up on arrival on a very busy Monday, I told them I was new, and Winnie needed a well check, incision checked, and there was a dry spot on tail that had come up 2 days earlier that I wanted vet to take a look at.  After a wait of 1 hour and 45 minutes (which I realize it was a unusually busy day), a man came from back and yelled "Winnie", as I stood up with the dog in my arms he said "come on back".  I wasn't sure who this man was because he never introduced himself.  Was he the doctor?  Was he a tech?  Was he the employee who shoveled kennels?? I was surprised to be taken into a room with 2 exam tables where there was already a young couple with their bulldog at one table.  I proceeded to put Winnie up on table, and this man that I "assumed" was a vet said she has a fungal infection on tail....looks at his tech and says give her () and (), and that should do the trick.  He then proceeds to turn to the couple at next table.  Now mind you....the tail was the only area looked at! I then said, "Excuse me, but when the SPCA spayed her, they wanted a well check and incision check within 2 weeks" I then lifted Winnie up on her hind legs to expose her abdomen.....he walks a few steps in our direction..glances at incision and says   " incision looks great, but your dog has BREAST CANCER!  At which time the young women with bulldog looked at me with wide eyes and mouthed dropped open in shock that a vet (I presume) had blurted that out to me. Again he turns away toward bulldog.  I ask his tech..."is this something that can wait till after holidays"....she said let me ask, she then says, "Dr Mills....how soon does this need to be done"  He said not to wait, so at front desk upon leaving I made appt for surgical procedure, but after a total time of 2 and 1/2 hours in the office, I still felt like My rescue dog was not examined to the best ability she deserved. I realize things happen, people call in, Office help is low, but there is no reason to NOT be introduced, NOT to have a complete exam (after such a long time), and to have to ask front desk person who was the man/vet that saw us.  I've been to many animal clinics over my 60 years, and have never had such a bad experience.  I consulted another opinion/treatment from another vet, and by the way.....NO CANCER!  Imagine that! He always spends quality time with the animals and makes sure that they get the best care available. Amazing service and cost. Wonderful new facilities right next door to the old building. Leaned they have been there almost two years now in their cool new digs.Both of the cats still roam the place freely and even have their own large cat tree in the waiting room! When we lived in Texas we would drive 1.5 hours to take our animals there. Still worth it. Doc is a no nonsence matter of fact type which is great. Will not order unnesicary procedures and will not cost you an arm and a leg to get in and out. When we move back to the area will take up going there again until then I will be taking my in laws pets every year I come to visit. read more

I hate writing this review. Mills has been our family vet since before I was born, but I don't think things are they same as they were 10 years ago. Since I've taken my own animals to this clinic I've had one cat (2017) misdiagnosed (in their defense, this vet is no longer with them, thank god) sent to another vet because they didn't know what to do with him and ended up dying at 2 years old. I've also had a frenchie (2019) who went in for problems vomiting/breathing. I was told that he would need surgery to laser his soft palette. If not that I would have gone home to find him dead. -small side note, I've recently talked to other French bulldog owners and have found out their vets recommended they don't get this procedure unless the dog lives outside, which mine does not - It has been 3 months since said procedure, his vomiting has subsided some but his breathing has gotten significantly worse. His snoring/snorting is SO LOUD it scares me sometimes. I'm now having to take him to vet ANOTHER new vet to help with these complications from this procedure that he probably didn't need in the first place. Now I'm trying to get my dogs records sent to me to take to a new vet. The response I finally got after many phone calls was "ok we'll get that sent out." And still have not received them. Sad to say it, but I will not be back. read more

Ok everyone. Our Family of Doggies we all go see Dr. Emi and Doc Mills, we now see the New Doc too. Always have been great at all times. Dr. Emi has left and miss her a lot, but the New Doc who took her place well she is great too. Katy, Doc and Buddy seem to like it there even though they get nervous. But that is our Babies and they get great care. Cori and Savi are the best and so is the rest of the staff. Always there with a helping hand a hug if you need it. Zero stars. Will never be back nor recommend. Rude, unprofessional front desk, receptionist. No communication what so ever. Drove 3 hours to take our French bulldog in for surgical Insemination at the recommendation of the owner to the stud. Dropped our dog off for boarding so they could progesterone check her for perfect timing. From the moment I walked in the door they were put out. I leave my dog, they are going to call when her levels are checked each time so we can have the stud brought up when surgery is scheduled. She was there 4 days never once received an update call and when we called to check in we were treated like complete idiots for calling and asking for an update.... every.single.time. The final call I made was a 3:30pm and I was told as of 9am her levels were good surgery was scheduled for 7am the next morning?? Oh ok kind of important to know so I can have stud brought up, thanks for the call ..... ?? She has the surgery, we go to pick up still unbelievably RUDE, we ask for the Vet to give us a call when he is available and she says "I guess, what for?" We of course have yet to receive a call 4 days later. I can't really review the business as a vet because I never had my dog in queue for surgery. I thought my sister brought my dog here once and I was wrong. The receptionist didn't want to enter my dog into the computer until I confirmed. I asked to just have her as a new "patient" and she asked if my dog was stable so I could talk to my sister who wasn't answering her phone. Meanwhile about 5 other animals bypassed my spot. Finally I just left. If they know you, this place seems to treat you well. If they don't, expect no acknowledgment (even if you are standing directly in front of staff) until they are ready to talk to you. I had a dog that was dehydrated and I suspect ate a leather strap. Yes, she was stable but no she won't suffer longer than necessary because I don't know if she has been here before. This seems like a couple of high school students organized how the front office runs. They were friendly enough once they talked to me but inefficient. I went to Bryan hospital and it was night and day difference. I felt like I was dealing with adult staff again. read more

If you love your dogs DO NOT board them here. We boarded our two dogs here over a long weekend. One dog is 14 years old. She came out with a bad limp on her front leg, and she now wants to eat grass. Both dogs smelled of urine and poop even after we paid extra to have baths. We had to throw their dog beds away because they had poop on them and smelled of urine also. Both dogs have been a bit aggressive since being there. Because of bad boarding experience we will not use the vet services here. read more
