I'm surprised I haven't written a review about this place yet. I've had many a great time here listening to music, enjoying a lunch on their patio and drinking more than a few beers at their bar. (And if you love pulled pork, it is one of their staples and consistently a great sandwich.) Last night I went to see another great tribute band they booked. This is the perfect venue for listening to live music. Much like House of Blues downtown, you can be on the main floor enjoying it with the crowd, or you can sit upstairs where you get a clear view of the stage, but you can still eat and drink and carry on a conversation (because you're not in direct line of the speakers). The nice thing about Durty Nellies is you don't have to be a "member" to sit up stairs like you do at House of Blues. So if you have a favorite group, I recommend you wait until they come here and go see them in the perfect setting. Or if you like dance music from a DJ, they also have that in the main bar on weekends. TIP: There are tables right at the upstairs railing where you can relax, drink and eat. But these tables typically get reserved quickly. So as soon as you know you're going to a concert, call them and reserve one. read more

Dear Owner/Employee/Friend of owner/Friend of employee of Durty Nellies, I recently attended the Baroness show at your dump. I have attended countless shows throughout the country, and your dump is the worst dump I have ever set foot in. Issues at your dump include, but are not limited to: -Overselling tickets to attend the show at your dump. It made for an unpleasant, cramped, dangerous environment at your dump. People were leaving your dump 1/2 way through the show. -Your dump has no sound engineer. It was a violent assault on the ears. If your dump cannot afford a sound engineer then your dump should just become an Applebee's. -The personnel that work at your dump are less than friendly (years of working at your dump will do that). In conclusion, it goes without saying that my ass cheeks will never again grace the toilet seats of your dump ever again. read more

This sucks to leave a one star, but when an establishment plays pricing games then nickel and dimes you... it's hard not to. First time at Durty Nellies and from the get go, things weren't as they appeared. To start, the menu they have on Yelp is NOT the same menu in the restaurant. No wraps, burger choices not even close and if I had to guess, maybe only offer about half of what they have posted. Here's where I think they suck as a business and is shady as hell.... Three of us ordered meals and on the menu states "pick any side".... What the menu doesn't tell you is that some sides come at an extra cost and nothing to designate a "premium" side. To our surprise we found $6.00 added to our bill. We also ordered a couple of side of ranch... a condiment... something that ANY other restaurant will give you for free, no different then catchup, mustard or mayo.... But they charge you for that as well. It was another dollar added to the bill, not a big deal, but when compounded by the surprise add for the sides, it starts to add up. ALL this could have simply been reminded by the waitress saying, FYI, that's a premium side and is an additional $2.00 per order and we do charge a fee for a side of ranch, would you still like some? We realize everything is more expensive, but it's the menu bait and switch, the unknown charges and charging for a condiment that is just crappy. The food? It was WONDERFUL!! The business practice? I have a soft spot for this little place. Endless memories. Good, bad, etc... Crazy times but also some of the best times of my 20s all occurred at this place. I always felt welcome. I remember one night when I was going through a tough time, and the security guy was really nice to me. He told me to just go home, rest and come back tomorrow. At that age, I was deeply offended. Years later, I met the dude again. Turns out he didn't even remember that night. Or at least he was being nice about it. He treated me kindly even when he didn't have to. Great place. Always like coming here. A music venue and good food. Today we had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and fries pickles with a couple drinks to boot. The fried pickles are about as cheap as they can get. Think what you find on burger but fried with breading. They were still surprisingly really good. We wanted another round. They have a large selection of beer too. We went here during the covid-19 crisis in July of 2020 and they are taking it very seriously. I appreciate the consistency they had with wearing masks and signs posted asking all others to do the same. They had a lot of other outdoor seating which helped a lot with social distancing. Drove out to durty nellies from the city for a show and was not disappointed. The sound is great, venue is good size and the bar was easily accessible and bartenders were attentive. I'm also pleased because they have malort. We got there early to eat food before the show and thought we gave ourselves enough time, side note we weren't interested in seeing the opener. After ordering the food took over an hour to get to us. We just barely finished our food after the doors opened for the intermission. The bartender was kind enough to get us stamped so we could get in in time. The only other thing I can comment on is how inadequate the women's bathroom is. There is no mirror or garbage cans in any of the stalls. Please for personal hygiene reasons add small disposals to the stalls. I would return and recommend for shows and food! read more

I love the food here and I always have a great time with the shows. The stage is awesome, the bar is great, and they always have festive decorations which I love. If you're a Mac and cheese fan I highly recommend getting that on the restaurant side. This place has a restaurant if you want a higher end meal. It's also great if you want a night out with friends with some great music and solid beer. read more

The kitchen is back alive! Some friends and I have been coming here for food and trivia nights on Wednesdays since I moved to Palatine a few years ago. We've watched it go through chefs both great and terrible over the years and were both stoked and nervous to try the new food after the recent kitchen fire. So far between us we've tried a number of items: The tenders are delicious though on the salty side (try the parmesan garlic or Cajun spice for sure). The fries are fantastic and excellent with the awesome sauce or avocado ranch. The ahi tuna was way better than a small pub should have and I'll be getting it again. It surprisingly came with guac which I found strange but the guac was so good it worked out well. The cheese curds were spot on, not too greasy. The fried pickles came as spears so they dunk well and are very tasty. The only downside is that the length of the spears make you want to double dip. Though I decided to get the Reuben on sour dough instead of rye it was excellent. Not dry at all and sizeably proportioned. Finally, we got the brown butter cake. While I'd have preferred the ice cream on the side since it cools the cake quickly, this is an awesome cake. It's delicious and we've now been back three times and gotten it every visit. All in all, the other pub/bar places in DT Palatine need to work way harder because Nellies is showing them up hard on menu. See y'all Wednesday for trivia! read more

I've mainly attended the board game nights on the second floor. It's evey Tuesday where they have a big library of games for you to play. From chess, to Settlers of Catan and Tsuro to Ticket to Ride you will find something to play with a decent group of people. Food has been good. I'm a fan of the burgers and tater tots. They did recently change their menu about two months ago so heads up. Beer selection is nice too. My only complaint is that tonight for Trivia the signs said that it would start at 7pm. There was a Cubs game so they pushed it back to start after the Cubs game. We had to ask the waiter to had to ask someone else. We came for trivia at 7pm, and left around 9:30pm. Trivia hadn't even started and the Cubs were still in the 6th or 7th inning. I would have appreciated more of a heads up with this. Otherwise I can't really complain about Dirty Nellies. When parking, the parking garage is free to the public after 5pm! read more

Hands down the most unbearable bar in the area, especially on the weekend when they host bands. The music is awful, ear piercingly loud, and the entire bottom floor is elbow to elbow with sweaty people. To add insult to injury, they've charged a cover fee almost every friday and saturday night I've gone. (Yes, I've completely stopped going there) If you do go to see a band, good luck getting a drink. There's only one or two bartenders at the rear of the standing area at a makeshift bar area. The stage area of the bar notwithstanding, the other sections are just kind of a letdown. Bad service, low quality food, and rude staff who just don't seem to care. The bouncers have a combined IQ of about 57, going after people (usually violently) for no reason and ignoring the people actually causing trouble. Overall, this place is a definite "skip it". It's a wannabe college kid nightclub masquerading as an upper-midscale bar. Ultimately, it doesn't remotely measure up as a music venue, and fails epically at being a pub for drinks and food. I won't deny it, it's a great place to see a band play but I'm just not a fan of the overall atmosphere. The bartenders are nice and do a great job of getting you served what you'd like, and pronto. The clientele, however, is kind of annoying and it can get WAY too crowded... I mean I have a limit to the amount of times I can be stepped on before it's time to knock a star off. Not the fault of the bar, but it makes a big difference in the atmosphere of the place. Lots of younguns', a few bachelorrette party goers, lots of ladies who just LOVE to throw their hair in your face, and LOTS of popped collars... yep, people still do that. read more

Questions asked by a new concert goer to me. Q: Is Durty Nellie's a crap hole? A: YES! Q: How is the sound? A: Actually not bad Q: How is the crowd? A: A bunch of a-holes including the women and the bouncers are even worse! When someone politely says excuse me you would think some one would move or at least make an attempt... not here, they don't give a crap. Q: Would you go there again? A: Most likely not! Management doesn't know what they are doing. The place has potential but it just doesn't work for me. So, before last night I would have given Durty Nellie's three stars. They usually have good bands.But the customer service SUCKS! After last night, I want to give them one star. Here is what happened to me last night, as I reported to groupon. My friend and I bought tickets with the wristband package for the show at Durty Nellies. She tried calling calling to find out what time the wristband deal started. She was directed to the answering machine for the event planner and was never called back. I tried calling on Friday and left a message on the manager's voicemail and never received a call back. At this point, I was a little frustrated. I called the same day of the show and the girl at the front desk had no idea what I was talking about and when to get the manager. The manager told me the two hour open bar started whenever you got there and they would write the time on the wristband. I asked him what time the bands started and he said around 9:30 or 10 pm. I told him we would be there then. When we went to redeem our groupons, we were told the open bar would be over in 15 minutes. When I explained what the daytime manager told me, the current manager was extremely rude and indifferent. He told me "no one else here seemed to have a problem with figuring out the start time". I later found out this was untrue and that there were several people unhappy with the groupon deal. I was a bit upset at this point. In the hospitality business, you to not just turn your back on someone. As he turned to walk away, I said "how do you plan on fixing this? It was your manager that misinformed me?" He offered to buy me one drink. I told him that would not be acceptable. At that point, another manager came over and told me he would contact groupon and tell you to reimburse my friend and me. When we did enter, there was a lack of communication with all of the staff. They would not let us enter the area where the wristband package was being offered telling us it wa a private party. Then, I saw them serving well liquor when it said the package was call liquor. The bar that they allocated for the groupon deal was double booked with a birthday party. It was small and staffed with only two bartenders and there were a lot of complaints about not getting drinks and people were literally pushing to get to the front! I also found out that the band started closer to 8:30, so we had missed the Green Day cover band that I really wanted to see! This experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Pair that up with the fights, drunk people spilling liquor on you and girls falling all over the place slipping their nasty hair back at you... I really hate other people's hair. read more

You may think a girl like me knows nothing about hip hop, and you'd probably be right, but after hearing Wax on Sirius, I immediately became obsessed with him. I've been to a few shows of his already, but my first Wax show was at Durty Nellies. My concert experience was incredible. It really seemed like there wasn't a bad place to stand in the house. We stood upstairs for awhile in the balcony and could still see everything. When we moved downstairs, we stood near the back because we're old and can't get down like we used to. We could still see everything in the back too. I liked that the crowd that night was completely mixed with younger and older people alike. That always makes for a fun time because you can just be yourself and let it all hang out. We had a fantastic server too (I wish I remembered his name.) He was incredibly busy but he showed us a lot of attention and made sure to answer a lot of questions and give recommendations around the beer menu and food. We ordered the fried pickles and knife and fork fries. The fried pickles were cooked to perfection and some of the best that I've had so far. The knife and fork fries were pretty good too, but I found that I got sick of them half way through. If Wax or any other musical act I enjoy makes their way through these parts, I'd be the first one to buy tickets. read more

I have been here a couple of times, but this last Saturday I remember, so now I can finally review! A group of us ended up at the Durty for my sisters birthday. We got there around 11:00pm so it was a little early and the crowd was a little light. A cover band was playing, of course, and the cover was $5. I believe it was six to midnight that were playing, and it was a damn good time. They had some good drink specials including $4 Vegas Bombs. I thought this was really weird, but they do not serve Miller...not that big of a deal but a little strange. Drinks are priced right, $5 for a Tito's double with soda, and $3 Coronas. The place itself is open and there are a lot of places to congregate with friends. Of course, our group was in the band area dancing our asses off on the dance floor. Didn't try any of their food, so this review is only for the atmosphere for drinking and celebrating! Good place, would party here again! read more

Been to Wednesday night Trivia several other times now & an update is in order! Service for the packed trivia night has definitely improved - server Jen/Jennifer is fantastic! Always friendly and smiling even when swamped with customers & orders and checks back regularly. The food has always been good and it's truly one of my favorite burgers around - a "medium" burger that is actually cooked to medium, too! I came here last night because we wanted to see a favorite band of ours, Stellar Road. We came here a little earlier the. 8:30PM because that is when the doors open on on their website the first band was to go on at 9. They didnt come on until 10 and our band started around 11:30. The bar had some descent specials, though the crowd was not our normal choice. My +1 said she finally felt like a towntly. Not sure if that was a compliment. Staff was friends though. I also order off their late night menu and ordered the buffalo wings. I recieved 12 hot wings that were delicious. And the quantity for $8.00 was a deal. Theu were crispy and meaty...my favorite. Only thing i thought was off putting was the ranch dipping sauce. It lacked any thickness and tasted like they water it down because it didnt stick to the wings. The bathrooms for menu were pretty typical for men. I would say the downstairs bathroom is very dirty compared to the upstairs that goes with the ladies room as well which I heard had some nasty products on the floor. Overall good for seeing a band. I suggest sitting upstairs if you want service. Not sure if i'll be back though. read more

Such a cool location! Right by metra (northwest line). They have a nice outdoor seating area. We got the Spinach Artichoke Dip for an appetizer. It was average. I had the El Chingon Burger, which was delicious. My husband is a vegetarian and had the Vegetarian Burger, which is on a homemade burger. They had a great beer selection with lot of options! The only down side for me is that I think it's too pricey for the quality. I would definitely recommend. read more

We're local and hit Nellies pretty reguarly. As others here have mentioned, it can be pretty hit or miss. Certain servers are excellent, while with others it seems like you're interrupting them. Food is also hit or miss. Burgers are a pretty safe bet, but I've had the classic fish and chips come out excellent, way undercooked (cold inside) and overcooked to the point where the batter is burnt. Stick with items that are hard to screw up and you'll be happy. They have an excellent selection of beers, ales and stouts, and their entertainment venue is one of the few decent venues in the area. read more

Tabletop Tuesdays start at 7 and go til 3. Soooooo many games here! Or bring your own. Play with friends or make new ones! They've got food specials every night, my favorite, of course, being $4 burgers on Tuesdays. These things are almost as big as my head! And quite delicious. Can't be beat! The waffle fries are very tasty, too and though I have only had a bite once, the mac and cheese looks pretty epic. The staff is always incredibly friendly, the owner even goes around asking how everyone is and you really get the opportunity to be friends with the staff. Went to the Twista concert. First, spent time in their bar and enjoyed a few drinks. Service was polite and atmosphere was comfortable. Even love how much (free parking garage) and how close the parking is. The concert venue is small and intimate. Great for that artist you love as your can get very close. Although, they lost 2 stars because of the condition of their concert venue bathroom. Large blood drops lined the bathroom stalls and clothes were strewn about. Multiple women were packed into stalls giving my imagination and judgement too much to assume. Maybe it's time for a bathroom attendant to monitor nonsense behavior and keep up with an appropriate level of cleanliness. read more

I went here the other day after not being there for over a year. Not much has changed. They still have the giant stage/auditorium on the side for live music. We sat in the patio where it was a little bit quieter and had the wings for an appetizer. They were really good, with Chipotle BBQ. It had the right amount of crunch and flavor. For the entree, I had the chicken tacos. They were good portions and pretty good. BATHROOM REVIEW After several drinks, my bladder decided to swell up to the size of a peanut so I had numerous opportunities to check out and do my due diligence to of my bathroom review. It was OK -- just one urinal and one stall. The stall door was rickity with a latch for a lock and the urinal was a little crammed as it was right between a wall and the stall wall. Always a fun time. I remember when this Durty Nelly's location was built 15 years ago. Prior to that, the old location was really run down and small. I recall walking in the old location and it was like an old house. You kept waking from room to room, and I believe the floors were different levels...may have had peanuts all over the floor too. Ok, so this location is really nice. There's a huge open bar when you walk in. There's another side to the bar for bands. So, when there's a band playing, you can migrate into the other room. There's also an upstairs, but I believe that's for VIP or something.....sorry, I've never been up there. Definitely worth checking out, especially if there's a band playing. read more

I think my Durty Nellie's experience lasted just under 2 minutes. On the plus side of things, I had the opportunity to witness the worst customer service in a restaurant to date. I have to note restaurant because Comcast may be a bit worse, but the greeters/hostess are on a level of that found with your local TSA agent. Maybe on par with an angry DMV employee... Our group of four was looking for a place to grab a few appetizers and cocktails before our night out on the town. The, I bite my tongue to prevent inappropriate words to be said, hostess greeted us with a look of 'the hell do you want' and said "can I help you?" In a tone that would suggest she would rather pull her own hair out. We asked for a table or possibly a spot around the bar. The hostess then asked if we were having diner. Probably some apps and drinks is all, we let her know. This is where it gets crazy. In that tone that makes you feel like we are mortal enemies that have suddenly met once more to wage epic battle she lets us know "you know we're a restaurant right? We can let you sit but you'll have to leave once other people arrive". Huh? You don't my money? You want to kick me out of my table I haven't even sat at yet? No thanks Durty Nellie's. You don't get my money now, nor will you ever. I hope people read this and all of the other poor reviews of your bad service and you find yourselves with plenty of open tables. 9-20 The Reubin Sandwich used to be great, was not as good as before. They now chip the corned beef, and mix the chipped beef with the sauerkraut, dressing and cheese, and melt the mixture. That is then ladled between slices of the marbled bread. It is harder to eat with the loosely melted cheese. it is all mixed together and tends to spill out of the sandwich. I prefer the ingredients assembled separately, and a cheese that stays a bit thick when melted. Fries, like the tots, are too salty. They don't have sweet potato fries anymore, which i miss. Lunch review: I was honestly super hesitant to go here for lunch after reading all of the horrible reviews. Now all I've wanted to do is go back. We were the only ones there, which was a little awkward, but the server was not at all overwhelming. My husband LOVED their ghost pepper glaze. He got it on wings and on his sandwich. I on the other hand, thought my mouth was being burned off. His tater tots were really good too. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich (durty bird I think it was called) with a side of mac and cheese. Both were so great! I raised an eye brow at serving buffalo chicken and coleslaw on a pretzel bun, but it TOTALLY worked. The most disappointing part was that I was waayy too stuffed to try the bread pudding, which I had been looking forward to tasting. We will be back, likely sooner rather than later. read more
