I do not get to this side of town that often but this is my go to place when I do . They are one of the only restaurants that still has a salad bar. You can get it with just the bar or add soup to the salad bar- you can also get the diet bar which gives you a small amount of meat ( 4 oz I believe) plus the salad and soup bar. Our server Breanna was quick to take our order and bring us plates for the salad bar - I also got the soup ( chicken gumbo- very good lots of chicken) . The atmosphere is nice not very noisy even with such a large dining area. You can even get a free soft serve ice cream when you leave. The service was amazing. Our waitress was truly a gem. There was no way to get in and we seated right away at 5 o'clock on a weeknight. The salad bar is a simple salad bar. For me personally the biggest Takeaway was that the wings I ordered were dry and tough, they were not juicy at. Overall this is a quick semi fast food place that is OK. Although the workers were nice, The online menu was outdated and when we called for a family meal, the items included did not match what was in the description online and had less items than promised. For a family meal we still had to pay for plates and utensils. The meats were okay. Some a little rubbery and the pulled pork was bland. The sauces carried most of the flavor. Ok Dustin's! What have you done? They used to be pretty decent for BBQ but now not so much. When we arrived the restaurant was somewhat dead so I figured things would move somewhat fast. That was my mistake in thinking that. Once we got a waiter to come over, I ordered a BBQ platter with sliced pork, ribs and chicken and 2 sides. I chose corn on the cob and green beans. My son ordered the burger. The food came out fairly quick. Everything looked delicious but once I started eating I realized looks can be deceiving. My sliced pork was dry and absolutely no flavor or hint of being smoked. The ribs were inedible. And the skin on the chicken was inedible. There was no seasoning on anything! No butter was provided for the corn and the green beans tasted like they came from the can. I would have expressed my displeasure but the servers were missing in the back or helping one table that consisted of a few Sheriff's deputies. Still a local favorite in the Avalon Park area. Lately, when in the mood for wings, I go here. They have some decent prices (even with wingflation) and their cajun dry rub keeps them crispy as you dip into their sauces (I like the hot). The salad bar is still good and they do keep up with keeping it as clean as possible with all the rugrats up there making a mess. I still wish they'd include the soup when adding it to a meal, but you can get AYCE with the soup. The brisket is done differently from what it used to be where you can pick fatty vs lean. Now, they just kinda bring it out. And since I cut down on beef, I've also been ordering their turkey which is amazing. Four of us (from Sarasota, Florida) went to the Orlando (Colonial Drive) Dustin's BBQ Restaurant. It was not very busy and we got seated fast. Jessalyn took our drink order, which took 10 minutes to receive and we immediately placed our dinner orders. Friends ordered the unlimited soup and salad bar...plates were delivered several minutes later. They said it was great. My husband ordered ribs and I ordered the turkey dinner. After 25 minutes our friend finally tracked down our waitress and asked about our meals. 10 minutes later the food was finally brought to us. Jessalyn was not happy when we asked her for a selection of sauces and she had to walk to another table to bring them to us. Husband said ribs were a little tough but tasted okay. My turkey dinner was PROCESSED LUNCH MEAT!!! It had the normal slimy feel to it which I covered with a lot of hot BBQ sauce. There was not much "checking on us" throughout our meal. The only positive I experienced was the soft serve ice cream cone that was complimentary. Although the place was very clean, I probably would not return for lunch meat that I could have purchased cheaper than the cost of the meal. Dustin's Bar-B-Q is a chain barbecue place like Sonny's and the ambiance definitely screams "chain restaurant" (or would it be more appropriate to put it as "CHAIN RESTAURANT" using capital letters?). There is nothing truly wrong with that, but the decor of the place definitely reminded me of a barbecue chain restaurant. The service is decent and when comparing it to other barbecue chain restaurants, it is not bad. Please don't misunderstand, I will always seek out and prefer the local mom-and-pop barbecue restaurants (actually, I almost always prefer the local mom-and-pop locations), however sometimes you find yourself in a national chain restaurant. It could be for convenience or a promotion, but we have all sought out a national chain. Anyway, the food is good and the prices are competitive. Being on East Colonial Drive, it is convenient to those who travel this busy highway, as well as also being convenient to the residents of Waterford Lakes, Avalon Park and that area. We always start with the salad bar, it's so fresh with a lot of options! The bbq beans are outstanding! Everyone at this location is so friendly and helpful all the time. I went through the Drive Thru in order to maintain Social Distancing, the person at the window was wearing a mask and gloves, however I was paying with a card, which involved dealing with a clipboard as pen, eww! No one wants to touch a clipboard or pen in the age of COVID-19. If I don't see it being sanitized, it's automatically contaminated. I don't want to touch it and I certainly don't want it in my car. I have ordered from Dustin's several times in the last few months via Uber Eats. Every single time I have ordered- they have exceeded expectations and I'll tell you why! 1) food is always fresh and what I actually ordered (you would assume this would go without saying ordering uber eats but iykyk). 2) they package the food so well. Everything is so neat and orderly- you can tell they take care in how they package your food. 3) they always include every condiment (without even requesting it!) this is HUGE bc so many places don't give you even the sauces or condiments that are SUPPOSED to come with. At Dustin's I typically get a sweet potato as a side, and they always have the accompanying cinnamon butter as well as a side of brown sugar! Honestly that's extra effort to me, lol! If I get cornbread, they always send butter for that. No matter what meat you choose, you can count on having the barbecue sauce because they always have it in the bag. Dustin's East Colonial. Been here a few times for lunch and to me that's what a place like this is - a lunch restaurant. It's a local chain with 5 or 6 locations, I've been to the one in Deland also. So if you go in with your expectations in line, your experience here should be fine. I'd rate everything about this place in the decent to good range with nothing being great. It's reminiscent of Sonny's to me - but a little bit better. Same kind of feel, a pulled pork sandwich and fries with cole slaw kind of place. Nothing wrong with that, just understand going in that it isn't some trendy gourmet bbq joint. It's simple food served in a simple environment. If you're looking for that, try Dustin's. First time visiting Dustin's. We felt very welcome from the minute we stepped inside to the time we left. The restaurant looked very clean and the large windows allow a lot of the natural light in, which I like. So many restaurants are dark inside these days but the light at Dustin's was cheery and inviting. The restaurant also looks very clean inside, including the rest rooms. I ordered the pulled pork platter with coleslaw, baked beans, and corn bread. The corn bread was great. My pulled pork was good. The coleslaw was excellent as were the baked beans. Mr.Patrice ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries which he said tasted like it just came off the grill, juicy and tasty. He ordered the salad bar as well, which offered 2 soups and most of your typical salad bar items like lettuce, potato salad, tomatoes, etc. The chicken noodle soup was a little bland according to him. Next time, he wants to try the ham and bean soup. Service was excellent throughout our meal. Drinks were replenished when necessary, a box was brought for my left overs, and plates were cleared promptly when we were done eating. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful when we had questions. We saw the staff greeting regular customers like they've known each other forever even though Dustin's has been open less than a year. Prices were very fair, especially the weekday lunch specials listed on a chalk board near the entrance. Portion size was quite generous as well. We've driven by this place several times and wanted to try it out. A tiny bit underwhelming because we were expecting a full on sit down type of place. Didn't realize they had a drive-through until we actually drove up to the restaurant! No bar, just some not great beer selections. I decided to soup and salad, along with a couple of pieces of smoked chicken. The salad bar was absolutely gorgeous. Their clam chowder was very delicious. I was a little disappointed in the potato salad and the macaroni salad. The waitress said it was homemade, but I'm not sure about that. My husband had the ribs along with baked beans and garlic bread. He had a side of potato salad that he thought was pretty good. Definitely would come back for the ribs and the BOMB smoked chicken! I had a combination of baby back ribs and St. Louis ribs, and again they did not disappoint. Not only were they moist, but they were also cooked to perfection, and along with the sauce, this place is a home run. I've been going to Dustin's locations for well over ten years, and they never disappoint. One of the things about Orlando is it is the home of chain restaurants. Dustin's is a small chain, but a local one and it's one of the best around for BBQ while Sonny's, which is also based in Orlando, is good you can tell they have outgrown their ability to manage quality. Dustins, however, has not - I usually get the catfish. My wife usually gets the burger and on occasion I will get the pulled pork. The food is always fresh.
