It seems we primarily have 2 types of pool services in the area... builders and cleaners. We wanted to upgrade an existing pool to a state-of-the-art automation system with wireless controls and expandability, and after fighting through supply shortages to finally locate the system we wanted, we couldn't seem to find anyone with experience to install it for us. I would say the same about "pool electricians" if there is such a thing. Dutch Guy Pool Service came out and evaluated our needs, explained what we needed our electrician to do first, and then came back and installed everything when we were ready. The install is great, the plumbing work is excellent as well, and everything was cleaned up and set up for us to use. In addition, I should mention that they showed up when they said they would, which is unfortunately rare these days. VERY BAD SERVICE: without an official test he wanted to drain my pool 'because of excess Cyanuric Acid (120 PPM) for a huffy sum of money. He did not do a formal test and so I did not receive any official paperwork stating my pool chemistry. So I took my pool water to Leslie's Pools and my pool showed normal Cyanuric acid. So, he was not honest. Then when I asked him to tell his pool service man to stop using my outside acreage as his toilet he had the guy call me. Did he apologize? NO! Then they dropped me from my service without a phone call, just an email I noticed a month later because 'I would not drain my pool' as he advised. We recently purchased a home that had a pool with a ton of tile in really bad shape. I spent 30 minutes burning though two $6 pumice stones and was able to clean the scale build up off like 4 tiles. There was no way this job was going to be done by hand. So I did a lot of research on the pros and cons of soda blasting vs. bead blasting on pool tiles. My choice was soda blasting and based on the reviews here I went with Ernest and Dutch Guy Pool Service. He answered all my questions and showed up on time for all scheduled appointments. My parents hired Ernest of Dutch Guy Pool Service, Waterford to rewire their pool from analog to digital, since they have had our pool for over 25 years. In addition, he installed a new sweep. They couldn't be happier with his service. It was an expensive operation, but carried it out in three months, interest free. There is no other word to use for this guy but ripp off merchant..He comes across as pleasant and honest but is just a snake..He works at the Bakery in Costco, and on the side preys on vulnerable consumers weaknesses. We had called him out to check our pump which wasn't performing properly. He made an estimate for over $1400 dollars. This arsed my suspicion. I was fortunate enough to meet Ernest of Dutch Guy Pool Service by chance through my employment. At the time he gave me advice on pool maintenance. I found Ernest to be friendly and direct. Several months after meeting Ernest my pool equipment broke down so I contacted him first due to the positive contact I had with him before. Ernest was extremely helpful. He came to my house promptly and assessed what needed to be done to get my pool back to good working order. Knowing the expense of new pool equipment (Filter system and pool sweep) I was braced for a very expensive bill. Ernest gave me several options to choose from and I was able to choose equipment that fit into my budget. Once we had come to an agreement Ernest began work promptly which included pressure cleaning my plaster and deck that took him the better part of an entire day. A few days after cleaning my pool Ernest installed my new equipment and had my pool back in great condition. Ernest did my work in early April. It is now July 2nd and everything continues to work flawlessly. Ernest has called me a few times during this time frame to make sure that everything was still working properly. To me that shows that he really cares about customer satisfaction. Ernest may not be the cheapest pool service out there but he is nowhere near the most expensive. His prices are very fair and the quality of work he provides is outstanding. In my opinion the few extra dollars you pay Ernest over the bargain basement guys will more than make up the difference in the quality of work you will recieve. I am a developer of commercial properties and I work with many different contractors in numerous trades at different levels and I must say Ernest at Dutch Guy Pool Service Inc is clearly one of the WORST I have EVER experienced. I used him at a house in Del Rio, Modesto because he persuaded me that he had the most efficient way to clean pool tile and stone. Ernest was hired to clean the glass pool tile and stone on my pool from built up calcium deposits. My back yard is a showcase in which I spent $300k for a renovated pool, large kitchen and outdoor living room which is immaculate. I state this to get a better understanding all of the damage he caused. I was out of town when Ernest completed the work who contacted me when the work was done. I contacted 2 individuals in my office which is also in the backyard to ask how the work looked and they stated "the pool, kitchen and living room looks like a bomb hit it." When I asked them what they meant they said the soda or solvent he was using was all over the back yard on the appliances, televisions, counter tops, furniture and decking. I demanded he clean the back yard and he initially resisted it was necessary but came to the property and cleaned for a few hours and contacted me that he was done. By then I came back from my trip after the soda blast and the cleaning was done and couldn't believe what I saw. Most of the concrete which I just spent $5,000 refinishing was white with his soda, Large clumps of soda was on the property which looked like snow. I allowed him to dump excess water on my vacant lot across the street. He had large clumps of soda which he didn't clean up and said it would disintegrate yet 2 weeks later it was still there until he cleaned it up. My neighbor's property had soda all of their sidewalk and street. It was so bad he had to come by twice to clean my property and my neighbors after he already came once to clean. After he cleaned the first time he blamed the white in the concrete on the concrete contractor. I had the concrete contractor come out and inspect it and he said Ernest was "a sloppy and filthy contractor who disrespects other's work". He is requesting $2,000 to put the concrete work back to the condition it was in when he finished and before Dutch Boy completed their work. After they cleaned the third time I noticed my outdoor kitchen sink was clogged and when a plumber unclogged the sink he pulled out a large clump of white soda from Ernest's work. My pool pumps and equipment weren't working as efficiently and the pool company checked the filters and said they were clogged with the soda from Ernest's work another $750 to replace the filters as a result of his horrible work. The pool service company couldn't believe how sloppy he was in not cleaning up after themselves and vacuuming the pool. When I asked the individual who was at the office while he was working how the water was left she said it went from sparkling blue to a "milky and creamy white" when he left because he didn't clean his debris out of the pool. I should sue him for the damages he caused and I am seriously considering it. The best analogy I can give for Ernest's work is if you were to lock your keys in your car and you called AAA to open the door and they use a stick of dynamite to do so. They would have done what you asked by opening the door however caused a whole litany of other problems in the process. DO NOT USE ERNEST AT DUTCH GUY POOL SERVICE TO CLEAN YOUR POOL! We were fortunate to be able to have Ernest out to estimate a repair to our fairly new $1600 variable speed Zodiac pump, as he must be very much in demand as the only Zodiac/Jandy authorized service company for this region. Ernest is a very professional and friendly person and arrived promptly at the agreed upon time. His lovely daughter assisted him as she is home for the summer from college. He immediately diagnosed the problem and suggested an approach that saved me over a thousand dollars. It would have been simple to offer a sizable estimate giving the situation and value of the pump, but he was upfront suggesting what to do and his fee would be $85.00. Yes that's right, and it included a return trip where he kept in contact via text and arrived promptly at his stated time to finalize the job on a day when the temperature was 106 degrees. The Dutch Guy pool service owner is just that, a Dutch guy. A family guy, a patient guy. His daughter was with him on the first actual service call. She was sweet and going to college.
